I'm American and I got banned for posting something like this once

The reason is that people here are afraid to have tastes of their own. It's considered pretentious. If a thing is pretentious it is therefore foreign If a thing is foreign it is therefore bad.

They will only admit to enjoying something if a lot of REAL MURKINS said they liked it, over and over, in REAL MURKIN contexts where the person's patriotism is never questioned.

So for many Americans what's good is limited to what was available in Muncie circa 1951. Old Granddad, Schlitz, ground beef, steak, and potatoes.

You also have to keep in mind, wh*te people are afraid of meat that shows anatomical features, so therefore the larger the animal, the less recognizable the meat, the better. Bones, skin, eyes, fins, tails etc... barbarism for evil immoral foreigners who enjoy torture. Of course that all goes out the window if they see you enjoying a vegetable. Then it's "the pain makes it moar delicious" (although they have literally never seen an animal in pain other than in a PETA video on YouTube).

Anyhow, enjoy your ban.

Why is it that flyovers can only think of steakhouses when they try and think of a "nice restaurant"? It's literally the most boring, "I'm stuck in bumfuck Chicago for work and I need something near the MacCormick center that isn't fast food" salaryman garbage.

People who don't know or care much about food sometimes just need a "big night out" but are intimidated by actual nice restaurants because they're afraid they might "break the rules" and be humiliated.

Simple rules at a steakhouse. Blue rare, rare, or medium rare. Salad or potato. Want some wine? Don't ask the somm, that's a sign of weakness. Besides a place like this probably doesn't have one. Just research autistically in advance. Pick a number of Parker Points between 90 and 95 (let's be honest here these kinds of people are unlikely to be able to afford a wine that got a 100 score, even as a splurge). Find one that isn't embarrassingly cheap and point to it on the list while looking up at the waiter with an expression of barely contained panic. Nod as he says words you can barely understand. Watch him bring it out and relish the relief as he presents it. The hard part is over. Take the cork he presents and sniff it. Swirl it in the glass, nod approvingly, and look very serious.

Steak arrives, eat it reverently while saying something like "put it right in my coronaries LMAO" or perhaps "we were meant to be a carnivore, the vegans are the worst"

Then agonize over whether to "spring" for dessert. I mean hey why not we're celebrating right? Get the fashionable new flourless chocolate cake that's taken the high end steakhouse community by storm. Oh, the bus boy is here to take the wine bottle away, better save that cork as a memento!

Then you tip fifteen percent to show how you're totally keeping up with the times (back in my day it was five!) and that was your memorable night out. Crisis averted, you can go back to your "comfort food" which is even less challenging than a slab of cooked salted beef and a side of baked potato.

I crave steak once every couple of months but the amount of attention it gets from gastronomically underprivileged folk is highly amusing to me. You'd think 90% of the internet lived in an 1890s style frontier town from the limited ideas people have about nice meals. How can a piece of meat be THAT exciting?

inb4 you've never had good steak. I've eaten at luger's, wolfgang's, craftsteak, and other "fancy" steakhouses, and I pretty much only buy USDA prime for cooking at home. It's very tasty of course, but so are many other foods.

Meat was seen as a luxury food up until a generation or two ago. These attitudes have persisted especially among the working poor whose daily diet consists of misery and greasy GMO corn sludge.

That image is supposed to evoke an aspiration to "splash out" and celebrate your life events with a large amount of cooked beastflesh, thus demonstrating to your peers that you can afford to indulge in the forbidden gastronomic pleasures normally reserved for the very wealthy. This particular style is associated with poor Jewish immigrants in the American Northeast, but it is basically the same thing as career sales clerks celebrating an anniversary with a steak dinner and a glass or two of Chivas Regal or perhaps a fine, oaky, 90+ point Napa cabernet endorsed by a tasteless fat white man.

It's the steak equivalent of a bitch drink. No texture, no flavor, and you have to wrap it in bacon for it to taste good. Try ordering a good cut next time.

You should be more careful with the opinions you express around here. A mod might ban you.

Post it anyway. They're just here to enforce their petty opinions in any case. Not make the board better.
