I'm staying at the Hotel Indigo again because catching an elevator is pure hell in the host hotels. That and the Indigo is the most convenient non host hotel.

To add to this, leave for law enforcement personnel in various agencies in DC have been canceled for that weekend. Nobody wants another Charlottesville on their hands to happen here. The city is also expecting a massive (20-40k estimate) counter-protest to occur as well.

Dragoncon and MAGFest we need more of those.
Hell, I'm 34 and still go to various cons. Really though the best thing about going to cons at an older age is now (hopefully) you have "some" disposable income to not have to worry about the varying cost of cons.(travel, badge and hotel)

Its a damn good feeling to not have to play the room stuffing game in order to attend a con, then again a lot of older Millennials are starting to come into some money now. Maybe that's why a lot of these con hotels are starting to sell out at a quicker rate these days.

Not gonna lie, this Katsu did have a bit of a Dragoncon at night feel to it. If I would've known this beforehand I would've brought some moonshine to sell. Props to the bartenders in the harbor that were making my drinks extra strong.

Man, I got cross eyed Saturday night with the amount of women that were just throwing it all out there.

Is it just me or was this years Katsucon was more crowded than usual? The harbor was fucking packed. Guy at the front desk said that the Gaylord was at 100% capacity. Even the high dollar suites were booked solid. No wonder they "look the other way" in regards to hotel damages.

Also, the dad complex was pretty damn strong at this con.(First time I had a chick buy ME a drink just to chop it up with me)

>4. Two good discussion points were obliterated by loud voices and focused bullying from opposition. Post shut down apologies make everything okay.
And those points were?

This really sounds like Otakon is kicking the can down the road without realizing the cliff is a few hundred feet away.

>Don't they send department heads of things like Tech and Security to Japan for "networking"?
Why does security and tech ops need to go to Japan for networking? Now that Otakon is in DC proper, these two department heads could network and consult with local agencies and tech firms on the "how to" of their jobs.

DC is one of the best places in the nation to get help with understanding both of these fields.

How about that. The hotel Indigo is the most convenient non host hotel of the lot. I'm making this spot my permanent Dragoncon hotel.

>connected to the host hotels via America's mart
>marta station right there in your face
>cheap as fuck
>easy access to everything

Funny moment in time. My cousin is a moonshiner in South Carolina who decided to come down with me to sell his product. The man came with 20 gallon jugs of shine and sold them all by early Friday morning.

Goddamn y'all some drunks. And thanks.

Eh, I wear this to work from time to time and nobody really cares save for the ones who get it.

Magfest just opened registration and it was a clusterfuck because they tied buying badges to securing a hotel room.

I'm going in under the assumption that you want to hotel that's close to the host hotels. Unfortunately, every hotel in immediate walking distance around the host hotels is either sold out or will get you for $350+ a night unless you have cheat codes to get a better rate.

As for best non host hotel? Any spot that has a free breakfast buffet.

What do you expect? Its a all volunteer convention. If you want competence then you have to pay for it.

My biggest criticism with oatkon is your security. Make them visible. Shit man make your staff visible, black shirts blend in with the crowd.

Last year during Dragoncon I tipped the maid $50.

After that she set it up to where I didn't have to pay for the overpriced liquor and snacks in the room. She cam through and restocked me every day without it showing up on my bill.

>You wanna be the one to send that shit out? It's hard work.
That's why you hire out a contracting service to do that for you. How difficult would it be for the con's CFO to factor the cost of contracting out the badge mailing service into the cons operational budget?

>> No.9363873 [View]

Katsucon needs to take a cue and a clue from Otakon and start mailing out badges because that prereg line was a mess Thursday. Pretty sure people will happily pay a bit extra to have a badge mailed to them instead of sitting in a line for 2+ hours to get a badge.

Your best bet is to get a room across the river in Alexandria and catch the NH2 bus or uber in because everything in the harbor is sold out or charging crazy high rates.

MGM is damn nice but it is by no means close to the Gaylord or cheap. That and MGM has a dress code so cosplay is a no go there.

I stopped group rooming with folks in hotels after somebody jacked my stuff when I was at Otakon back in '03. That and walking in on one of my roommates getting his back blown out by another dude.

I've been rooming it alone ever since.
