Just for Saturday, but yep! I'm fixing up Speedball by adding the shoulder patches, cleaning up the edges, and actually adding the hood because I ran out of time before Katsucon. Probs will get a new wig, but enjoy this picture of my dumb expression. I need to take it in at the waist too. I may be hanging out with a Whimsical Wasp (white and turquoise costume) and I dunno what my friend is wearing.

I didn't make it to last year, but my friends who did go really enjoyed it. The WCC is a really nice space for photos too, and apparently the panels and guests are pretty cool. I mean, this year has Kevin Sorbo coming, which is pretty cool.

I wish there were more locations. Due to the rush my only option for Marvel was 11 AM in the Charles Street Lobby, or 10 AM or 5 PM on 4th West -- both of which are miserable timing for either me personally or the light. Still, staff was very co-operative, and offer help of whiteboard or microphones if it's difficult to get people to stop milling around and pay attention.

Otakon is very stressful to run a shoot at, and a much bigger voice strain issue unless you're on the West 4th floor. I'm packing gallons of water and throat drops.

I was actually offered an extra hour, since the staff are aware that Marvel is fairly sizeable and probably will have an uptick of cosplayers since GotG is out the weekend before (plus TASM 2 and CATWS earlier in the year), but I've clocked it that all the Marvel shoots I've done so far we've wrapped in between 40-50 minutes, and the AssCreed shoots I've attended or helped with have hit that point at the longest. It's probably more difficult to herd people with a SnK, Homestuck, or Hetalia shoot, but generally I call each photo for fifteen-twenty seconds after positions are taken, which is really all you need with how fast shutter speed is nowadays. I mean, people get tired posing.

I do not understand why some fandoms feel the need to call literally EVERY POSSIBLE SHIP OR FIGHT SCENE. It drives me nuts. I offer to take team-ups, but I'm not going to go out of my way to call your Kid Loki x Maid Deadpool OTP, especially if you don't communicate it to me.

My usual room-sharer isn't going to Otakon, much to my chagrin; I'd be interested in this if you have the space, because 116 is an amazing price for Otakon. I promise I am a good roommate who brings food and booze to share.

A lounge room with snacks, soda, occasionally a keg, stuff like that is standard in SFF cons, I can only think of a couple that don't have one. It isn't a literal hotel suite. It's basically one of the empty panel rooms, with a lot of chairs, and some tables. Sometimes the medical guys are stationed there. Occasionally guests have informal events where they hang and talk to folks casually. I'm not sure what you're getting at.

I wonder why there are like, zero anime cons that do a con suite.

>> No.7383682 [View]

This is basically a cosplay-oriented variation on a con suite, and I honestly think it would be good to have.

Awesomecon's at the newer Walter E. Washington Convention Center in DC! It's very metro-accessible, about a block from the Mount Vernon Yellow/Green stop.

It's the same place that Otakon is moving to.

Dang, that's a really good price for a suite.

I had been wondering what they were gonna do to block off the gazebo. Then it was just that little, utterly, completely useless little line barrier.

I was so glad I got to bypass the reg line since a friend gave me a spare staff associate badges. So many artists/volunteers/maid cafe people I know had gotten extras due to astounding displays of clerical error.

God, as soon as Katsucon's over we're on this. The ride never ends.

My favorite for overall value is the Holiday Inn and the Camden Yards Marriott. They're very accomodating, not quite as price-gouginglybad as most of the others, pretty close, and have nice enough rooms.

Skip the Radission. I like the Sherat too but it's gonna cost an extra 100$ bucks a night so don't bother.

I am home. Boy, this was a weird con.

I've already figured out what I need to fix about this Speedball for Awesomecon/Otakon (take in waist, buy better binder, make hood, add patches, longer wig), but since it looks like far less of a hot mess than last year's version and is way more comfortable, I'm satisfied with it. Kinda bummed that the only people who finally figured out who I was decided to bitch at me for Civil War. Who the fuck does that?

It was fun enough, mostly a socializing con. Shouted my voice hoarse for the Marvel shoot but people really enjoyed it, so it looks like I'll take care of Awesomecon and Otakon shoots too. Will try and get some pics off my phone that I took of hall costumes.

Gettin' a move on but there's some delays. Big accident on the loop so we're gonna do a straight shot down I-295 and bypass it. Should be there in an hour, hour and a half. V3 speedball is incredibly comfortable, this is gonna be a chill con.

My meetings tomorrow were cancelled so I will actually be able to finish Speedy before the sun sets tomorrow night.
Unless the power goes out.

I dunno about the contacts, probably the Persona 4 card, and you can always swing by CVS early for a cap.

>tfw I bought two wig caps so I wouldn't fight through the hair section at the harbor CVS

>> No.7359240 [View]

Finishing the bodysuit (it's basically a footie pajama pattern so at least it will be comfy) and waiting for coscom to post my passioned plea for the Marvel shoot to move to the place we went to last year. I'm perfectly willing to be the yelling organizer, but I'd prefer not straining my voice in the atrium near the fountains as the sun begins to set....

I most just lurk here now, but I just wanted to duck in and say that I'm working on the Marvel shoot to be around 12 or 1 on Saturday. V3 Speedball this time, which hopefully will look a lot better than the messy heroic age one at Ota. Also, maybe one other costume.

I really like the Aloft. It's a slightly smaller room in dimension, but with the very high ceilings and wide beds, it's great to stay in. I also appreciate that it has a small safe in the room so I can stow personal items/medicine/documents that I have to keep with me without beer getting spilled on them. Being cheaper than the Gaylord also makes it good. But remember to pack a coat -- It's a five, eight minute walk that's VERY cold.

The binder has not arrived yet( I get the impression the influx of purchases has taken their shipping department aback), but I will definitely report on whether it is effective when it does!

Also, to answer the question about binding: it's really hard. It's sometimes a bit upsetting because it's like, sometimes I wanna just not have boobs all over and my wraparound is really, really crappy, and it's so thick that it hardly works for stuff that isn't multilayered and loose. I'm hoping that this one works, since I heard good testimonials, and hey, ten dollars doesn't destroy my budget.

It's so, soo hard to find reasonable binding options. Underworks smalls are too small for me to get into, but their mediums are practically just a regular tank top on me. It's kinda weird, too, since my boobs feel very "dense" to me -- is that a weird way to describe them?

This post is copypasted from a tumblr post >>7052884
that came up after a review for the binder shown at right went viral. I'll be honest -- I did buy one. I have a 34F and binding them well is incredibly difficult without causing undue pain. I don't really feel like I "stole" that binder from some poor transman, I just now ordered it and they've sold nearly 1,700 units. It's not like when that listing runs out there will be NO MORE BINDERS EVER AGAIN, and they're not the only cheap seller. Someone on tumblr tried to argue that lots of people buying them will drive the price up, except that's not actually how supply/demand works.

Mostly, it's just social justice sallies trying to make everything offensive.

Ah, I promise to do the hair right if I cosplay Bert! I have noticed that really good wigs are something I don't... see very much with SnK cosplay right now. I mean, their models hardly every change and they aren't CRAZY ANIMU HAIRDOS, so it should be simple to keep straight than Homestuck or a comic costume... But a lot of the Mikasas just look like they're recycling a Rukia wig without tidying it up, and most of the Levi wigs I've seen except Patch Anon's are in kinda sorry shape.

I promise I will do my best so you don't cry!

>>7051493
Maybe she's deliberately standing on the box to piss off shorter characters, hah. She's definitely a little more seriously in the running now that you brought her up -- and hey, a character I can wear glasses with!

I really need to get on it to make sure I actually -get- photoshoots this year. I'm not doing AUSA and I'm just finetuning a couple things for Baltimore Comic-Con, so all my cosplay efforts are going into Katsu.

>>7051494
I'll be the monkey titan! Woo! It'd be hilarious to see that cosplayed. I only ever see Colossal and one friend who did Armored Titan at Ota.

>> No.7051482 [View]

>>7051454
Rico is actually pretty doable and would suit me, though wiki asserts she's even shorter than Levi. Anka is also a character I considered, though having one Stationary Guard would be a little weird. Maybe I'm being irritatingly picky about this group, but I'm determined for it to actually -work-. We've also apparently got a shortish Eren that I was not previously informed about.

>>7051439
I'm thinkin. if I'm doing main-ensemble as the group may ask of me, Marco or Bert, since I don't have the proper scaryface to be Ymir and you just need to be bigger than everyone else to be Bert.(though, if we get anime dancing titan between now and the con, painting up a bodysuit would be sorely tempting).

I'm not sure. A big part of why I'm doing this is because I want to make that jacket just to have, and maybe test myself at crafting if I have time(I hope to, because 3DMG pics with The Awakening at Katsucon would be -priceless-). Rico or Anka would be interesting, though.

>>7051415
That's the problem, hun, my friends who are gonna cosplay SnK are all teensy just like the characters they've chosen so far(one is doing Armin, one is doing Annie, and one is undecided but might do Levi), and they're all within two inches of the height of everyone they've chosen so I tower over them between 4-8 inches. At this rate I might as well give up and do Bert since I like him a lot and they're all going to be puny. Though, I'm just under Marco's height and I do have a rounded face... Could do him if I improve my crossplay makeup skills.

(pity I'm not part of the contingent that adores Marco -- oh well!)

Thanks for the full chart side-by-side, btw.

>> No.7051400 [View]

Friends are trying to convince me to cosplay from this. Of course, basically none of the characters suit me, but they're determined. All the girls are pretty teensy except Ymir and I don't see myself doing a crossplay for this series.

>>7050085
I'll admit I kept mixing up characters when I first started watching. That happens constantly to me though so I may just be critically dumb.

Also, I gotta say, it's a pet peeve of mine with snk cosplay when people just wear a white tee or wifebeater under their jacket instead of the character's shirts. I don't see enough Erens wearing the right sorta shirt at all.

Huh, that's strange, the prices weren't jacked up this early last year.

It would be nice if they could move one weekend over instead of squatting on Valentine's Day.

>>7041812
2010 had a military ball and a christian couples retreat, 2011 had some military cartographers, and then this past year was the most intrusive with the BBYO thing. It would be nice if they would warn Katsucon goers as to their doublebooking status.

I'm in favor of panel simulcasts. The Crispin Freeman panels were nearly impossible.

Also, for Mags and Katsu, I go for the Aloft. It's a maybe two-block walk but it's reasonable and has nice amenities. I have friends who use the Residence Inn immediately across the street, there you get a full kitchenette and a sofabed as well for around 150$ a night?I did the Gaylord once and it kinda sucked, but I wasn't booking so I dunno how much it was.

>>7040535
It is kind of absurd. In 2017 they'll have Magsfest, Katsucon, Awesomecon, Otakon, and AUSA, three within the city limits, plus a couple of minor geek-related shows. The only reason to book a room in B-more anymore will be if I'm feeling indulgent for Baltimore Comic-Con.

Still, you'd be hard-pressed to find a large enough place to allow for growth, with accommodations around it, close enough to your previous location that you won't lose some of your frugal base. I heard that they checked out a huge number of places.

>> No.7039608 [View]

Same weekend as SPX, some I may only go for one or two days. It has some wonderful photoshoot locations for a particular sort of costume, one that works in a fancy/historical European setting.

Hopefully they'll have fixed up some of the major choke points on the upper floor and the basement.

>> No.7036236 [View]

>>7036219
It'll be an interesting change at least. Slightly easier commute for me, and way bigger space. If they decided to make it longer than a few years I may begin to miss Baltimore, DC doesn't have the same air of welcoming weirdness that B-more does.
