I use a large baking tray filled with near boiling water. For a large peice its alot better for getting a part evenly heated than using a heat gun and I found it less hassle than using an oven.

Dont use wood. Google a material called sintra or just use eva foam.

As for stability - these risers are 6 inches tall. The wood blocks you see is to add an additional two inches for about 8 - 8.5 inches of total added height. They are stable but id recommend some practice before going out on a show floor with them. Scout the area you plan to be in ahead of time for hazards like cables or uneven surfaces. The tallest you want to go with platforms like this is about 9 inches as it starts to get unstable and you run serious risk of injury from a tumble. If you have to go 10 or higher i suggest you look into stilts as those are designed for this purpose specfically. The size and height of them will require changes to your overall costume though. My wing zero for example needed 15 inches of height to make the scaling correct. To give myself some security the beam rifles had pvc pipe cores that were tied to my wrists so I could use them like canes to catch myself if I felt like I was going to fall.

DESU no matter how confident you are I recommend you enlist a handler if you want to wear a costume like this. You taking a spill isn't a matter of if its a matter of when and you'll need help with crowd control at the very least. Also having someone on standby with a bottle of water is a godsend.

A Raiden cosplay would be killer post here in the progress thread or tag my SM so I can see it >< I need to do a virtual on cosplay soon as that was my original namesake.

The fiberglassing was just a way to get the pvc to attach to the metal frame. With the crazy cart tanks I drilled some holes into the gocarts and attached the pvc frame with simple zip ties. That way I can cut the frame out and reuse the carts for another costume in the future easily.

All the templates were made in cardboard first to get the sizing and shape right. Measurements were based on photos of the actual tanks and some models. The baseline was the width couldn't be wider than an average door - everything else was scaled accordingly.

The BT42 and CV33 process was much the same but using a Crazy Cart XL as the basis and the shells were all eva foam rather than foamcore.

The Tiger tank was based on a hover seat - its basically a little cart that attached to a hover board than you can put a lawn chair on cooler on. I fiber glassed some pvc pipes to the frame and built a foam core board tank shell to fit around it. The tracks were made with eva foam and some black fabric hides any of the visible elements of the cart and hoverboard beneath.

Another really important thing to keep in mind for a costume like this is how you intend to get it around. Alt was a ton of large single pieces and the only way to take it anywhere was to rent a van. My new costumes break apart and condense to be small enough to check on a plane. Single parts with Velcro or magnets and break large sections in halves that secure with metal pins so you can break them into smaller chunks. This video shows some of those techniques on my gundam Unicorn suit.

These are some of my newer platforms. The shoes are secured with a set of long toggle bolts. The bolts are secured at the top with a large washer - this is important as you want a lot of grip and don't want these to rip out. Cut some area around those bolts as well to allow them to sit deeper into the shoe. You don't want to be standing a rough bolt all day. Get some gel inserts as well for good measure.

Here's a video I did with a brief overview of my platform setup.

Sorry for the delay. Ive got two new puppies and they demand alot of my time atm.

1. First suggestion if I were to rebuild Alt is much lighter feet. My newer costumes use bed risers which only weight about 2 lbs complete. Alts platforms were made form solid wood and were very heavy and difficult to walk in.

Sry I ended up getting in alot later than expected. Most of the costume is supported by the torso and a set if nylon suspenders. The waist armor and skirt parts all velcro attach to a eva foam belt around my waist supported on those suspenders. If you want check youribe for uberscosplay and there is a video of me suiting up in the RX79G a few years ago that gives a good idea of how everything is put on.

I use pep for alot of stuff for I pull models from games. I still do a large amount of stuff freehand as well. The Ez8 shares about 80% of the parts of the 79g which I had already built. Free handing the differences like the ankle knee and shoulder armor was a a fairly minor task

I also finished this Ez8 gundam costume recently. It still needs alot of details but there are some shows in the next few weeks I may take it too.

AGE is just bland. Bandai was hoping it would top seed and oo in model sales and it never came close. Sometimes I think build fighters keeps getting seasons that curiously feature an abundance of AGE suits is to justify using the molds more.

Alt was a challenge because of the size and weight. I can provide more wip photos when I'm home later today along with some write ups and suggestions about what I would do differently if I were to revisit it now with 7 more years experience.

Nice to go back to a big show again. First time at the con center since the remodel, I wish I would have brought my tanks out there was alot more space to drive them around than I expected. The cosplay competetion on Saturday had a few last minute dropouts and I think they had a judge dip on them last minute as well. Mark knight rises was listed as a judge but I never saw him and in prejuding it was just the 3 ladies. Sad I only managed second at the competetion since I've been itching for a shot at an international competetion. I'll have to pull out all the stops for the next one and make something really insane.

Was at otakufest both days but only wore my unicorn costume breifly on the first since I didnt have my usual helper around and didnt want to push my luck with a crowd. Attendance looked good, much better than I expected considering this is the first real event I've been too since covid popped off a year ago. There were plenty of sanitation stations and pretty much every booth had sanitizer. Temp checks at the door as well. Idk what else people want. If you think the media is ever going to come out and say "ok guys it's all over go back to work and your lives now" your delusional.

Didnt get to rly see any of the panels or anything but the schedule was sparse since I'm sure alot of the regulars who might apply for panels were probably expecting the show to be dead or get delayed/canceled. Otherwise I was at the flynns booth helping them do sales and talking gundam models with passerbys.

Tldr I think it's a good sign of things comming back. Looking forward to superfancon in a few weeks to see if that trend continues.

It's a BT42 acctually but the turret shape is similar so I can't fault you for it. They took about 3 months to build.

My suits especially the newer ones are actually pretty mobile. I can sit down and get around pretty well. I can even reach my face to drink or eat. The eyes are mirrored plastic film, I can see out but you cant see in. The masks are also attached with magnets and can be removed in a hurry if I need to see better to navigate a tight spot. Things get hot, but the suit has fans and stuff to help me keep cool.

You do realize this is next to impossible to prove right? imo its more annoying that every thread devolves into a bunch of finger pointing about who is self posting and who isn't. If you'd just post some content that was relevant to the discussion the irrelevant stuff would eventually get buried and this board wouldn't be as dead as it has become.

I upload wip photo galleries on my fb. If you want you can PM me there and I can help you out with any specifics. Ive got links to various resources and guides.
