Is there something to Metrocon that I'm not getting? I went three years ago and was pretty underwhelmed desu

Haha whoopsie, looks like I let lil ol SuperFanCon slip through the cracks, and that's this weekend. Are they ever gonna have a consistent venue? They're on at least the fourth that I'm aware of, and now it's Dadeland Mall of all places. And after finally feeling ready to forgive them for their pathetic 2020 showing the week before lockdowns (like 40 fucking attendees total), I can't make it cause I'm moving. Oh well!

I went last year and had a lot of fun! Bought quite a bit of cool stuff and went in (admittedly a bit shabby) cosplay both days. And I'll be going this year as well. I've been working on a better-looking cosplay for this year, so hopefully it pans out, and I'll be taking a custom Fumo I made as well.

It's case-by-case but you're taking a risk every time no matter what, since they're size standards for Asians. The charts they give aren't always trustworthy either. For example, I've failed with the same costume three times now because no matter what size I pick the straps are too short. it's to the point that I just have gave up on that one, and recently ordered my first new costume in months, so fingers crossed very tight

No one's expecting you to stay in character. Also, if you pull it off well enough, you won't have to worry about approaching people since they'll do it for you

There is no right or wrong reason to get into this hobby. BUT if your reason falls outside wanting to be funny / ironic, I would strongly recommend opting for anything *other than* a generic maid costume

You get used to it after a while. Even just wearing it around the house would help, since cosplay a lot of the time is (physically) awkward, no matter which sex it was made for

There are plenty of other examples out there, where they either have little cosplayer presence at all or the people dressing up like X character aren't the most attractive. But it's starting to sound more like a self-esteem issue than anything. "Getting mogged" is a frame of mind, and owning a cosplay hard enough, in itself, will go incredibly far. Since you're already open enough to crossdressing, it means you're already over the biggest hurdle
