Awwww, I'm sorry you lost it, but what a cool gesture!

This is a "started-at-a-con" story, I guess. I went to Jump Festa last year and had the amazing opportunity to meet Tabata-sensei, the creator of Black Clover. I made a plush Witch's Forest Golem for him and he seemed to like it. A few months later, volume 11 came out and the golem was on the inside flap!! He frequently puts fan works on the inside flap, but I was still so touched he liked it enough to use it!!

What I want is quite a bit larger than most resin spheres out there, so I'm a little nervous to start learning how to use resin with such an object. I had no idea about using sharpie ink to dye resin, that's way cool. Thanks!!

>>9507401
I'd never heard or transpart before! This is awesome! Thanks for all the suggestions and info!

I need some large resin gem-spheres, approximately 2.25 inches (60mm-ish) in diameter. I've looked around and haven't had much luck. Does anyone know someone I could commission for one? Does anyone know how much it might cost?

And I've heard I can dye clear resin with Jacquard iDye, is that true? Because I'd need two; one green for the shield shown, and one red for a different shield. I figure it's probably just easier to try to get some clear ones and dye them myself rather than find someone to make two different ones?

Or, does anyone have any ideas what else to use for the gem on the shield?

Got my basic cosplay plans settled. I think. I'll have bandaids, safety pins, some snacks, and some (plastic) filthy lucre in my loot bag while cosplay Rannie, so if you need any of those and see me, feel free to ask.

I just finished my Chilchack costume. Hope to see you at con!

This was just nearly a catastrophe, but…
>Cosplaying Shiroe from Log Horizon S2
>Excited to make big staff
>Dad always helps with big props, so he's onboard with this
>Spend months working on it
>Try to think everything through 5x
>Even make it so it can be split into two parts for easy transportation
>Top section turns out to be a something like 15+lbs because it's so dense
>First day of con, I lean the staff over my shoulder and hear a crik-crik-crrrrrrriiiiiiiiik sound
>Cracks are forming because the top section is too heavy
>WELP

It didn't break fully, and after a photoshoot I just put the staff away for the rest of the weekend. My dad reenforced the breaking parts, so it should be better now, but the staff is so top heavy, it's hard to carry anyway. There are a lot of straight angles and sharp edges, so we used the best materials we knew at the time, but we've leveled up since and would probably be able to make a much lighter one now. Learning experience, I guess

Daaaaaang, two Senshi!! I'm way excited. My costume isn't turning out too hot but STILL, SO EXCITED. I hope we can find each other. I'll probably just be Chilchack on Saturday though.

QuidVis on Etsy has made me some good custom patches in the past. I recommend them. P5 is big enough that I bet others have already made the patch and have it in their etsy/storenvy/tictail store.

Shigeto Koyama is coming back this year. I am stupid-excited for that.

>what does your cosplay lineup look like?
Chilchack (Delicious in Dungeon), Zack (Astra Lost in Space), Saiki (The Disastrous Life of Saiki K), and maybe Rannie (Dragon's Crown)

>how behind on that lineup are you?
Bought Saiki, just need touchups on that, commissioned Zack, waiting for that to arrive, Chilchack miiiiight be finished next weekend, haven't done a thing on Rannie besides buy fabric, but his costume is pretty easy so I'm not worried.

>did you manage to score a room through the jacked housing lottery system?
Yup.

>will LineCon return?
Nope.

>/cgl/ meet up?
On staff, depends on my work schedule

I want to sharpie dye the light silver wig I got for this character to give it just a hint of blue. I've never sharpie dyed anything, but it seems pretty straightforward. However, I found a couple posts saying Arda wigs, which I'll be using, don't take sharpie dye well. Does anyone know if this is true? The posts are from 2013, has this changed?

>>9459070
I cannot help with your question, but ohhhhh goodness, where are you wearing this to? I'm working on Chilchack myself right now.

I feel SUPER GREAT. I was struggling to figure out if Chilchack's tunic-thing had belts on one side or the other side or both sides (because the art sometimes doesn't show them, at all) when I came across this piece of official perfect reference material. I am over the moon with joy!!

Personally, I would give a bunch of coats of wood glue, sand, wood glue, sand, primer, paint, clear coat.

I usually thin my glue out a bit, maybe 4/5 glue, 1/5 water, and thin or thicken it based on how it's going on.

I posted this a while back, but I don't know if I posted the conclusion:
>Waiting on package, watching tracking
>Suddenly sees that it has been delivered and signed for
>No one came to my door, had been there all day, maybe it's in the apt office
>Manager says no, so maybe a neighbor signed for it and will drop it off
>Wait a few days, no package.
>Stick a note on the mail boxes about it
>Try to contact USPS about it several times, ignored each time
>After two weeks, I put in a formal complaint
>They geotrack the package, find out where it was delivered, and get it to me the next day.
>It was misdelivered, the person had opened the box, saw it was weeb junk, and just never got around to getting it to me/back to the post office
Luckily it wasn't something anyone in the area besides me would care about, so I had no big worry about it being actually stolen, but it was a frustrating couple of weeks.
Also
>Recently moved from one edge of my little town to the complete opposite edge
>Used to live like a mile from the next city's post office, but all my packages would of course be at my city's PO, miles away (I have no car, so it was hard for me to get them, and it's closed most of the time my husband is home)
>Get a package slip at new place, try to get them to redeliver, no dice
>Gonna go to the PO to pick it up, now we live real close, but slip says it's at the neighboring city's PO
>Dunno why, but okay, go over there
>NOPE, they just gave me a slip with the wrong PO listed.

I'm looking for a jacket close to Georgi's. It doesn't have to be exactly the same, but does anyone know where to get one with the right base colors? My searching has just left me frustrated. I figure I'll probably just have to make it myself, but I'd rather be as lazy as possible.

>>9345170
Oh, that's a hard one. Are they into cosplay at all? I guess it wouldn't work well if she doesn't like K-On, but you could try to get her on board by suggesting cosplaying together?

I need blue shoes for this cosplay… completely blue. I can find plenty of blue shoes with white soles, but no completely blue ones. My previous attempts at painting soles have resulted in easily flaking paint, even with the "proper" suggested paint. Can I dye the soles somehow? Should I just go stupid mode and sharpie them?

>>9337749
Damn, badass cosplay choice. Sorry I can't help with the question though!

We had a whole group planned out, but it fell through so I still haven't gotten to wear it, alas. Hopefully next con season! I'm hoping to finish his regular outfit too.

>>9154503
Yup, I'm making a Kitaro costume! But it's a bit of a cheater version, kinda a bit more modern-day than it should be… Years ago I was going to make this costume with a friend doing a more modern Neko Musume, but we never got around to it and I just wanted to finally finish it. It'll be inaccurate, but it'll be super comfy, perfect for the Sunday of a con or something.

I get nervous when people ask me what I'm making. I rarely say, "Alba from Senyu.," or anything, I usually just give a vague description and add "it's from a comic/video game/anime/etc." But sometimes they push me for more and it gets awkward.

>"Oh, black and white stretch knit? What are you making? A costume?"
>Yeah… From a comic. It's a hero who keeps getting thrown in jail, so I'm making his prison costume.
>"…What? Why's he in prison?"
>Well… the first time he accidentally…attacked… a child?
>"……….what?"
>But he's a good guy! It was an accident!
>"And he's a hero?"
>Yes?
>"This sounds really weird."

Another time:
>"These are interesting colors."
>Yeah, usually I wouldn't put them together, but it's for a costume.
>"Oh! A costume! From what?"
>An older anime/manga series about monsters helping people, I guess?
>"Oh! I love anime! Maybe I've seen it before! It sounds familiar."
>Awesome! Not many people know it because it's maybe kinda niche.
>"Show me a picture of the character!!"
>Okay, here… I'm doing this version…
>"…what the hell is this? I've never seen this before…"
>(awkward silence)
>Well… it's originally from like the 60s, so…
>(more awkward silence)
>Okay, I'm just gonna go now.

I make big props with my dad and logistics regarding the prop are a top priority. How will this fit in your car? Can you handle it by yourself? What will you do if something breaks? I think having a big prop is fine as long as you think of how it effects those around you and work to minimize the negative effect. If I can't basically handle the costume myself (carrying it, movement, etc), I won't make it. Having help is awesome, but if push comes to shove, I want to know that I can get everything out of the way/put away in a timely fashion.

And if you have a huge prop or a costume you can't see really well out of, for crying out loud, HAVE A HANDLER!! Even if you can move around just fine or carry that giant axe, having a handler will help make sure that giant axe doesn't end up in someone's eye and make sure you don't trample that toddler that wandered into the blind zone at your feet.

That I can definitely agree with. The only way I'd ever get my family involved is to bring them leftover cake. If a friend is interested, sure, but I'd never force it on them. That'd be reaaaaal awkward.

I actually really like character birthdays. It's fun to see what people do for their favorite characters. I share a birthday with a character I really like, so I bake a cake for him every year. I dress a figure of him up, take lots of pictures of him with the cake, then I get to eat it. It's excellent fun.

What kind of markings? War paint? Tattoos?

I cosplayed Jacuzzi from Baccano! and used copic markers for his face tattoo. It is in NO WAY the best thing to use, but they worked pretty well. Sometimes they don't layer well and you can see overlapped areas, but it's never been a huge problem. Unfortunately, they are kinda pricey. I've used prismacolor markers for other markings and had good results, but there's probably an actual marker made for this sort of stuff. I just don't know, sorry!
