The room parties thing is less a staircase of elitism and more of just groups of friends. People bring plus-ones all the time to afterparties and con parties and it's never a big deal. I think any sort of "upper crust" is less founded on who's the most talented and more along the lines of who's been going to the gatherings the longest. People know them because they've been cosplaying for ten years, and once you've been doing it that long, you know everyone and everyone knows you.
>>7334379
"Good" is a pretty objective word. Depends on what you're looking for in a cosplay photo. If you go to the NorCal gathering pages, lots of the photos post their albums there.
>>7334384
You're so stirred up over two people being popular that you're making grammatical errors. Why so mad, anon? One page having a lot of likes shouldn't affect you so much.

I've lived here my entire life and I never really got this vibe at all. People up here are really chill. Whether you cosplay for fun or to further your craft, there's no judgment. Sure, everyone's got their groups of friends, but that's not the same as the ~cosplay celebrities~ and coattail-riders that other places seem to have. I had a few friends move here from SoCal and they all say NorCal cosplayers and photographers are much more relaxed and friendly than their SoCal counterparts.
>>7333351
>I'd have to grind my way to fame somehow.
Probably because of things like this going on in the SoCal scene. God, that sounds awful.
>>7333413
I don't know if you ever saw it, but I remember one dude on the Cosplay.com forums a few years back that complained that there should be more cosplay events in the central valley. He threw a tantrum and started trying to organize one in Davis and blew it, thusly pissing off a ton of NorCal people. If you want to organize a gathering closer to your area, do it! No one is stopping you and no bay area people are going to get huttburt that it's too far for them. The gathering will be small at first, but word will spread, just like it does with the bay area people. Just plan a few months in advance and get your ducks in a row and you can have your own gatherings wherever's convenient for you.

Just popping in to say I love you for cosplaying from my favorite Final Fantasy. Curious as to why you used a zigzag stitch on the cuffs, though?

Re: Ban explosion day--I got banned for discussing why Disney doesn't feature more POC in their movies. (My argument was because while white people don't have as much of a racial majority anymore, they do in general still have more money than minorities, at least here in America. There were plenty of people that either didn't see or didn't like Princess and the Frog just because it featured an African-American protagonist, and Disney lost more money than it would have if Charlotte was the star. Disney just follows the money, which may not be politically correct, but it's a safer business model. Go ahead and look up gross earnings for Disney movies and you'll see what I mean. But I digress.) To be fair, it was off-topic, but still wondering why the drama-mongerers in the thread didn't get banned while people discussing Disney's financial and political motives did. I don't really get how "oh my god I know her she is a fugly bitch and had sex with like a million people" is oh so relevant, but whatever.
As for /cgl/ getting buttmad, /cgl/ has been getting buttmad over hilarious things for years. They got buttmad that Kipi used too much photoshop and started posting photos of her without the shoop to try and convince people she was ugly. Then, they got their panties in a wad over her not making her costumes until she started posting progress photos on her blog. Sound familiar?
Also, the discussions about tits here are ridiculous. People get so worked up over fake tits and trolls and whatever. I automatically hide every thread that even starts with a photo with big tits in it now, just to avoid the shitstorms.

Of course! I can't believe you haven't had an MRI yet; you definitely need one to be sure of what's going on with your injury. They thought my injury was an ACL injury at first, too, so fingers crossed that yours is cartilage damage or something else more easily repaired. And if not, gank the dead person's ligament. I'm sure you'll be fine, though. Hit me up if you need a post-surgery buddy because you'll be bored as hell post-op; same username here as facebook and dA.

>> No.7304393 [View]

>>7304365
Note I left out: the ACL can heal on its own, but only to a certain degree. It can't fully heal and become 100% operational again. Whether you get surgery depends on your age, health risk factors, and level of activity you want to return to. With your desired level of activity, yeah, you'll probably need surgery--but I dunno, I'm not a doctor. You definitely need an MRI first, if you haven't gotten one. But don't freak out, it's not too bad. I just got back from my physical therapist trying to dismember me and I'm still glad I went through with the surgery. Being limited forever because surgery is scary would suck.

>> No.7304365 [View]

>>7303039
I don't know which procedure your therapist told you about, but if your ligament is partially or fully severed, you'll need a new ligament to replace it because severed ACLs do not heal. It depends on how it's torn; minor tears can go sometimes without treatment, but eventually something will need to be done about it. If you procrastinate on required surgery for cartilage or ligament injuries, you may develop arthritis and eventually will need an entire knee replacement. Have you had your MRI yet? The people who do the MRI will be able to read and diagnose it and tell you what's going on in there. From there, you should discuss your options with a surgeon. It's a lengthy process, but it beats limping forever.

We're in the same boat, anon.
>volunteer during training because I'm the newest person
>huge dude falls on me during training exercise
>workers comp takes forever to order MRI
>meniscal tear
>meniscal repair surgery a week and a half before Christmas
>visiting family is a pain in the ass because crutches and hourly icing
>miss a buttload of parties and can't attend ALA
>still can't walk like a normal person
>bored as fuck
>mfw living vicariously through ALA facebook updates
I'm guessing you tore your ACL? No matter which ligament you tore, please be immensely careful during your recovery time. The last thing you need is to rush the healing process and set yourself back.
Also, always go to your phys therapist appointments and always do the exercises they tell you to do. I saw this one dude with a locked knee because he skipped all his appointments after the first two weeks and it is not pretty.
And go for the cadaver option when you replace the ligament. They can graft a ligament from somewhere else in your body to do it, but it's extremely invasive and so much more painful than jacking a dead person's.

That's not an afro wig. You need an actual afro wig to start with. I know New Look sells an afro wig, so start sniffing around sites that sell New Look wigs. Amphigory and Shop Cosplay both carry New Look, but there's other sites that do, too.

>> No.7292922 [View]

>>7292910
The new wigs from Cosworx are pretty bad. I got a wig from one of their sales and shipping took at least two weeks and I got no response from their customer service despite trying both the phone line and email. When I finally got the wig, it was shiny. It was also apparently a color blend and the streaks were pretty obvious, despite no mention of a blend on the color description. They also don't sell matching wefts, so when you part that wig down the center, the wefts of the wig will be visible and you'll have to order a second wig and frankenstein two wigs together.
For Anna's wig, I'd go with Epic Cosplay. Their wigs are really thick and they sell wefts in every color. Arda could be good, too, but their Leia is too big for most people and a lot of their wigs have short, frizzy fibers for volume that can be a bitch to style over.

Your best defense against smudged make-up is starting with a good primer. For my eyeshadow, I use Too Faced primer. Water doesn't budge it, and I've fallen asleep with all my make-up on and it still looks almost the same the next morning.
>>7288223
The paint on that bodysuit is really amazing, especially on the forearms and knees. That being said, stay the hell away from me, that is terrifying. Or let me know if you ever want a Gibdo.

Thanks! I don't see Lucas Lee cosplayed very often, so that's pretty cool.

I really like the way you did the hair. If you want the ears to stand up, try slipping some floral wire in there.

Thanks! You can pet my ears if you let me pet any part of your entire costume. So fluffy.

I really like the fabric you used. If you want to get started with more eyeshadow techniques, this is a really good tutorial to begin with.

It walks you through the basic look and then goes step by step on how to dress it up from there. The same girl has a ton of great make-up tutorials.

Too cute. And thank you for making the skirt two separate layers and not just stitching lace onto the bottom of the yellow skirt.

I like to sew the basic pieces together with either cotton thread or something close enough to the color I'm going for. Then I dye the fabric and do all the hemming/seams that require topstitching with a thread color that closely/perfectly matches the new fabric color. You could buy thread that you estimate will match, but it's always frustrating when the thread you bought to finish the final product is just a hair too light or a shade off or whatever.

These patterns are a lot easier than you guys think. Since the scarf is a separate piece from the robe, you just start with a robe pattern and add a hood. Hoods are easy; just take masking tape, place it over the hood of any hoodie you own, draw on the lines, and take it off. Then, make the back rounder and the whole thing larger, since his hood is gigantic. Hell, you play your cards right and you can make this from a kimono pattern with a modified sleeve.

I've styled an afro wig before and believe it or not, they are very easy to style. It's kind of like sculpting; you use larger tools to hack off the excess portions, then smaller tools to even it up and make it look nice. The best thing about afro wigs is that if you slip up, you can just gently pull on the fibers and it will help fill in gaps. I recommend snipping it to the preferred size around your face and the side of your head, then taking it off and putting it on a wig head to trim the back and neaten it all up.
Oh, and cut down the side of a garbage bag to line whatever surface you're cutting over, because afterwards it will look like there are pubes all over your bathroom if you don't.

I bought an Inigo and really didn't like it. It had a ton of short, frizzy fibers that made it look really bulky and disproportionately large--and I don't usually have problems like that. For that wig, try getting either a longer wig from Arda and trimming it down or try Epic Cosplay's wigs. Epic Cosplay has some really nice blonde tones.

If the earrings are flat on one side, I would sculpt one from Sculpey (color doesn't matter) and sand it to get rid of lumps and unevenness. Then, I would use it to make molds for resin. With resin, they would be lightweight and you can choose to make them opaque or transparent. They tend to look a lot more finished that way than any sculpted earring. Resin casting is a lot easier than it sounds, too.

I feel like maybe you don't actually ask them. I have a Zero Suit and Fusion was my favorite. One of my friends has a Zero Suit and the Prime series was her favorite. Another friend with her own Zero Suit enjoyed Super the most. So either you don't actually ask people, or your area is filled with a disproportionate amount of attention whores/bandwagoners.
>wahhh I asked 2 cosplayers and they didn't give me the answer I wanted. all girls are meanie fakers and just want my money! why can't every girl be like my dream cosplay waifu
That being said, Other M will always be the wrong answer to that question.

I didn't use it for plaid specifically, but I've had good luck with So Soft fabric paint. It has a thickness more like acrylic, so it doesn't tend to bleed, but it might take a couple coats depending on how absorbent your fabric is.

Disney is sponsoring a sweepstakes vacation to Norway and stated that it was the country that (mostly) inspired Frozen. They visited lots of different countries, but from what I've read, Norway was the main inspiration. I could be wrong, but that's what I remember reading.
