So I probably won't be able to make it to the museums, so I'll concede my point.

Still my panoply would work as both hellenistic and before that

Yeah they are pretty bad sometimes. My cousin works in a museum and she tells me the dirty secrets. Plus the translations are often terrible.

I'll be studying archaeology when I get back to the states, where are you studying?

Alright man I'll see if I can get to one of the museums before I leave, as long as they allow pictures I'll probably get a pic in the next week or two.

But like man they didnt use it a whole lot all over ancient greece, but some people had access to it. I mean there's tons of stuff that isn't really common with the amor but some people did. Like some people had 3 rows of pteruges (in the museum of vergina) or different sized pteruges. Hell theres even a depiction of a corinthian helmet with some wig on top of it. You got some armor with rectangular scales and rounded ones on the same armor. You got armor made of linen and leather.

There's no depictions of people wearing the gorget but we have found examples so they did have them. All I'm saying is that it's not completely wrong to have a Greek in 350 bc with a gorget.

Pic related wig thing on top of helmet, from getty villa museum. Although maybe it was real or maybe the artist just made it up, ya feel.

I only used those pictures since the museums in the southern peleponesos wouldn't let me take pictures in the museum. My armor set up is more northern oriented with the thracian helmet and longer pteruges anyways so the gorget would fit. The top left is not jewelery, in the museum itself they said that it was gold covered iron and leather and would be fine for battle, they had a ceremonial one as well which was much thinner. They also had another 2 with scales similar to the bottom left made of iron and leather. The top right is from Thessaloniki, which has ancient Greek roots.

The greeks did have neck armor. The problem is that they are in museums where you can't take pictures and are labeled wrongly in English but in greek they are "throat protection"

Actually I'm not mixing culture. Ancient Greeks had gorgets. I put three pictures of them in my post? Like one of them is super famous, from the tomb of Philip of Macedon.

After going to some museums here in greece I've seen a lot of ancient gorgets. Now when I get back to the states I'm going to make my own. Would it be under the flaps or over them?

Just find some reason to kill them then. Lure a gypsy into a trap and make it look like they did it then you have a good cause.

If you started a channel with one of those kind of larp girls I would think it would do really well. You have your side which gives the information we need and then theres a girl for everyone to watch giggle.

She gets a bit more annoying but they have some little nice tutorials. I just like it cause they showcase some people from local larps.

Its how I found out about a dick larp group. I emailed the head guys and they told me they were not a group anymore and gave me some other options. On the youtube channel I see the same group talking about their game. They could have just said they werent taking new members.

I used about 14 layers if i remember( i think 14-16 will be nice) but depending on what fabric you use it can change. I would say glue about 3 layers together at a time and youll find what works best.

Also where are you from?

No problem man. If you have anymore quesitons ask away.

https://www.uwgb.edu/aldreteg/Linothorax.html

This site has a little video on it about making it.

So if you want it out of leather you just get leather pieces the sizes you need and if you want it out of fabric just buy a bunch of fabric. Cut the fabric to the right shape and glue a bunch of layers together. Too thick wont bend easily and too thin will be flimsy.

If this slacker (me) at 17 can make this then you definitely can.

Now here are the pieces to cut out of cardboard. 3 pieces. The yoke, tube, and pteruges. You can put one row of pteruges (the shorter row) on the bottom of the tube and make one piece or not. The measurements will be hard for me to help with since its for your body. But i hope you dont have too much trouble. Just play around with the cardboard till you find what works

Another important part is where you will tie it. You make the open side where you tie it the side where you hold your shield so the unbroken part shows. Historically its only fastened with two points but you can use three if you dont care all that much since it will be more secure.

Next you will need the points where you fasten it on the front. You can choose one central point for both arms (#1)or one for each (the bottom two on this picture). To fasten them you can use something fancy like ring pulls used for drawers or just plain steel rings like I did.
You can place these either high or low depending on whatchu want.

Now the second set of pteruges will be sewn on and that is why there is a border at the bottom. You can forgo this but it doesnt look as nice and the upper border is to hide the ring pulls.

The yoke part also usually has some design strip to hide sewing marks. I just used a staple gun to put it together and it works great.

Now for the actual design of the body tube. You can have either simple straight edges or curved ones. The curved fit the body better and the straight are just easier to make. Your choice. Now for the yoke you can make the arms straight or curved. Curved sits better but straight works just fine.

Now all you need to do is get measurements and make a cardboard rough draft.

The tube part is from your collarbones to your waist. The pteruges are from there down as far as you want. Its pretty simple to cut out.

Well thats good.
-Scales can cost extra
-rings can cost extra
-material changes cost as well
-then you have dyes and paint

So first lets talk about design.

The tube part which goes around your body is pretty standard. You can either have a double breasted model. Where there is an extra panel in the front(#3) but that isnt really usefull since you wont actually be attacked with real weapons. So you can just have a simple lighter version if you want.

Next are the pteruges (dangly bits)
These can be very different depending on what you want. To be historical looking you can have one or two layers of them. Two layers looks better and you get a short and long protection that overlaps. If you choose one layer you can have thick ones (#3) or thin ones like (1,2 ,4,5,6). Thick ones are easier to make and take less time. Now how many you make depends on how wide. 1-1.5 inches is good for thin strips and 4-5 are good for larger ones, but you can do what feels comfy. Now you can make them floppy (less fabric) or stiff (more fabric). Either is historical. Now on every historical depiction I can find they only go right past the genitals or above. Not longer. Now reasons for this vary but the main one you should know is that you cant sit down properly if they are too long. But if you make them longer you get more protection for your genitals and upper thighs. Now for the shape you can make them square at the bottom or rounded, your choice.

The next part is the yoke or the part that goes over your shoulder and holds it up. The end that ties to the tube can be different shapes. This can be rounded (#5) or square (#1,2,4,) or pointed (#6). This can go lower (#1) or high (#4)

Now the neck can go unguarded or you can make a gorget (#3).

You may also put scales anywhere on it. They be square(#4) or rounded (#2,6). They can be only on the sides (#4) or all around (#2) or a only off on the middle (#6). You can even put them on the yoke(pic not represented)
