Don't compete at Sak, their comp is a fucking joke. They get some good craftsmanship entrants but their prize system is just plain insulting. They give you "petal points" and you have to pick a single item from a pile of mismatched shit thrown out of the dealer's hall. You also get a gorgeous 10lb blown glass trophy (Seattle is huge on art glass because of Dale Chihuly) but that had better be all you're interested in and you'd better compete alone because you only get one and the other prizes are shite.

Old-ass picture of my Olivier. Took it myself after a freak snowstorm with a self-timer and a kitchen stool.

You know what's a godsend for toku weapons? MDF board. It does fine detail really well, laminates together solidly with just a little contact cement, and all it takes is a couple coats of fiberglass resin before it's solid as a rock and really glassy.

Only problem is that it gets pretty heavy pretty fast, especially with three coats of resin on it.

Pic related: solid MDF, fiberglass resin, and Apoxie Sculpt. Took me a couple weeks from start to finish.

I did Aguri Kusugami from Garo Yami wo Terasu Mono for Sakuracon and Fanime, shit was pretty fun but god the costume is hot as hell. Garo is not a summer-friendly show to cosplay from, idk how they manage to film it between May and October.

Couple years back at Sakuracon I was cosplaying Ukitake from Bleach and I was sitting around waiting for a friend of mine to show up when this girl walked over about ten minutes after I had sat down and handed me a piece of paper with a drawing of me on it.That was cute as shit and it was really great but I have no idea where it's gone.

You don't reach true levels of "Oh god what the fuck", though, until someone writes fanfiction about you having cosplay sex with two of the guys from the show you're dressed up from, while you're dressed as the villain. That was a nasty surprise in my tumblr ask box lemme tell you what.

Yeah, the Mucha dresses were ugly as sin. I'm practically foaming at the mouth over Westminster Choir though, so they've at least got that going for them.

It only does this on the skirt- the two styles of JSK have the border print going all the way around.

Holy shit I had to double-take because I thought you had just posted a picture of Natalie Dormer.

>>6952935
This is easily the cleanest craftsmanship I have ever seen for this specific costume. I've seen some pretty crappy ones before, and this one is miles and miles above them. Dang.

Resubmitting because I accidentally posted the xbox-huge version of this picture. Myself as fancy Tarrlok from the Legend of Korra at Fanime. I need to wear this again, it was way too much fun.

Also, despite the colors not being accurate (this girl made hers before a color page of the Circus characters came out) this may be my favorite version of Doll because it seems a bit more period.

Kuroshitstorm is also an option, though an overplayed one. I have yet to see a group (on this coast at least, I think some East Coasters have done it before) do Kuroshit with period tailoring/fabric/undergarments.

There's also Grave of Maria from D.Gray-man, though to do her properly you have to have stilts because she's a nine-foot-tall animated singing corpse. I tried to do it to scale once, I almost fell off the stage because I tripped over my hoop skirt. (Pic is not related)

Sailor Moon has a metric fuckton of artbook gowns that score points for both poof AND nostalgia. Like the wedding dresses, or the princess dresses (though those are more spaghetti-strap, almost Edwardian empire line gowns)

Yeah, like I said- you put a "I'm gonna make this as blingy as possible so I can win everything" Trinity Blood costume next to an accurate one made by someone who loves the series and the difference is just absolutely striking. What costume did they do, anyway?

>>6937129
TB seems to me like it's sorta fallen by the wayside as of late, though that may be because the only people still doing it are people that have gone on to read the novels, the manga, etc. instead of just watching the anime and then picking and choosing from artbook images and giving it the old college try.

more crazy Empire stuff to keep this somewhat on-topic.

The sheer amount of "What D.Gray-man character are you?" I got the last time I cosplayed from this series was infuriating. I really wanna do it again because Tania is a dream costume for me, but ohhhhh the headaches.

I used sock glue to keep mine on, and it stayed so well that at one point the back string of my top got loose and there wasn't a single wardrobe malfunction.

IW's Bertille Rose Dress JSK

Looking for $180 shipped, I got it on sale and it was way too short for me. Shirred in the back, fits a 40" bust and 30" waist.

The 'blue' portion of the cape you're seeing in the art is a heavily-shaded cape on the back of the dress made of the same material as the dress itself- which she has, it's just smaller than the one in the art and she's wearing the large faux ermine with the red lining over the top of it.

She is missing a good majority of the strips down the front with the roses on them (she has four actually, two on each side) but it does appear that she has the scallops on the bottom of the bodice (at least from what I can tell in this picture, the large sleeves and the ruffs at her wrists are blocking parts).

Not everything Thores does can be translated into a 100% wearable design, mind you. They did a pretty good job though.
