Most of us from back then are still buds and regularly interact on FB and/or Discord, if we don't see each other at cons.

We're still very happily married and actually just celebrated our anniversary/my birthday earlier this month (since they're on the same day)!

Why am I not surprised that it’s the dude who pulled the pipe bomb threat for our old high school and made us make dhurrhurr national news over 4chan?

Derp yeah, I did. Thanks for catching that. I'd meant to have both >>9427910 and >>9427918 on there.

That's what I get for beginning to type on mobile and then switching over to desktop and forgetting to copypasta correctly.

I mean, if you knew we were incompetent, you'd know I was his wife, not girlfriend, actually. And we haven't really completely 100% given up on it? He found out some more stuff than what he's posted since, but once the threads died, they died. We didn't want to revive something and add to it because what would that really accomplish? It's not like anons can really do anything about it besides boycott the con and complain more lol

We also don't really go on here anymore unless a friend tells us that we're mentioned because it's not really worth our time. Heck, I had to dig through my external drive to find the word doc that has my trip. That goes to show how long it's been since we've posted on here.

Since the mass posts about the AM drama, we have gotten to talk to a couple gulls that were involved with the BS and were messaged tips, but there wasn't really more to dig besides what Masao had already told. It seems like they're either doing things under different names and keeping to their shadiness, or they're just lying low for now about it and not really doing anything because they know someone will uncover it.

What more do you want, or expect?

Woah there, there's no need for such harsh language. I was on mobile and the picture appeared tiny. It looked like armor. I don't know the character so I don't know if it was supposed to be armor or not. At the very least, none of them in the "best of" categories look like they took awards for craftsmanship solely on sewing skills because they all incorporate some sort of armors or things requiring armor-type labor to make. I was basically thinking the same things as >>8892885 that it seems like people tend to do armor because it seems to equate difficulty over sewing and that's not always true.

Is it me or do all of these winners utilize some sort of armor? I'm assuming these are for the "best of" in each category and the group photo is everyone else with judges awards/etc.

Which con was this? I don't recall forcing anyone to change the dates and times of meetups; it's done willingly by the organizer of the meetup. If I don't go to a meetup it's because something legitimate came up, which tends to happen as of late. I make sure to at least have one or two people relay the information to people going. (Not like everyone wants to see me at them anyway?)

Smug, I can be sometimes. I won't deny that.
Incompetent, in what sense?
Rude...what did I do to you to seem so? I generally try to be nice as possible to anyone I meet/know unless they've been snarky with me or you're making me uncomfortable. I haven't really gotten to talk to many people for maybe the last two-three years at cons because I'm usually always so busy and running off to be somewhere, so if I brushed you off in a rush or if I was tired/irritable and you took it the wrong way, it wasn't intentional.

I sometimes get help through ideas/tips/guidance sometimes from some family members that know tools for props and some sewing techniques better than I and Masao helps me construct things quite a bit for us every now and then. Anything I've ever not made, which is super rare, I'll say so.

>>8753466
That only happened once where the girl re-sold a cosplay for much more, which was a little upsetting. I mean, maybe I shouldn't get ticked off because I still got some money out of it, but when you list something for months only to get offers for crummy eBay costume trades and best offers of half of your listing price, and the person you sold it to ended up selling it for much more, yeah, it's a little unnerving.

Also what? I only have one pregnant cosplay and it's done because it's canon to the (messed up) timeline of the show. What other costumes do I have that I only wear if I look knocked up in?
There's further worse people in the state than I, surely. Sage because this thread is already a sausagefest with other trips.

The past several years I was in cosplay contests where we were sharing a holding room, he never really seemed too pretentious? I mean he is a wee bit haughty, but I mean it's sorta merited and easy to brush off because he tends to be a really nice guy and is pretty spot on to the characters he cosplays. I've never really seen him be cringy, but maybe that's because I've never interacted with him for too long. Last time I was in a super huge outfit struggling to open a door, he walked away from his group, opened it and held it open until I managed to get through. Maybe he gets full of himself from time to time when he's excited?

My lack of communication with other people in the community the past year is so obnoxious, for sure!

Just a heads up, while there's tons more food options in the area, nothing is really going to be super cheap. The Arboretum is more of an upscale area than Downtown, so we have "fancier" places around there. Anything within immediate walking distance is going to cost you usually anywhere from $12-20+ a plate. Some of these places off the top of my head include: Cheesecake Factory, Blue Baker, Eddie V's, Z'Tejas, Drunk Fish, and Estância Churrascaria.

I'm not sure if they still have a Five Guys there.

A little bit further in the Arboretum, there's a La Madeline, Trader Joe's, Newk's, and P.F. Chang's (although the last two I've never been to so I don't know the prices).

Closer to Braker Lane which is about a mile max down where the HEB is, there's a See's Candies (if you're wanting a Cali candy fix), Mama Fu's Taco Bell, McDonald's, Jimmy John's, and Chick-Fil-A and Wendy's across the highway.

If you're looking for much cheaper sit-down fare ($5-15/person), I suggest driving or getting an Uber/Lyft down the street to Duval Road, where there's a Chuy's, IHOP, Outback Steakhouse, Carrabba's (might be a Groupon still for it) and Rudy's BBQ.

It's...not really the best con in the state, by far, but it's pretty decent. As a local that lives North of Austin, I like the Arboretum much better because not only do I not have to drive far, parking isn't a pain in the behind like the 6th street location was. That, and food options are much nicer in that area with the Domain close by.

I agree that it is a sorta smaller hotel, but I don't really think it's going to be too terribly crowded...hopefully. You'll have a ton more outside space than downtown to take photo shoots and hang out if it's not too cold, but inside it's really compact.

With the area, though, you're pretty much at a crossroads for major traffic, since 183, 360, and Mopac tend to get extremely bad in that area around 4-6pm on Friday.

They all are pretty much the same to me, so I don't recall exactly. (I know absolutely nothing about Homestuck except that the fandom is absolute batshit, so I'd like to remain ignorant.)

I think he at least went by Dirk (or Dave) and his real last name or the character's full name, Dirk (or Dave) Strider on fb. I believe I recall people having posted about him all over tumblr at one point calling him out for saying he was gonna rape some underage girls or something and runs Homestuck panels as well? Not sure if I'm mixing several of them up, but if I recall correctly, this one either attended or ran some pool party at San Japan or A-kon and there were screenshots of him saying he was going to do illegal non-con acts to people.

I'll keep looking around for these posts that I remember people mass posting about this dude, and when I find them, I'll post them on here so people know who to avoid like the plague.

San Japan is generally the best con in Texas, at least in terms of how well the cosplay show is run/maintained (prize support, staff) and programming reliability/quality for the most part. They might not always have the best guests and they sometimes tend to have reoccurring ones people get tired of seeing, but they're still pretty much the best we've got here.

Second best, I'd probably say either A-Fest or A-Kon, though the latter is still going slightly downhill in some aspects as it continues to grow. If Matsuri ever got their stuff together regarding everything but guest turnouts, maybe it would be on the list (and even then, they obviously have a bad rep with how they treat their guests).

As far as con creepers, I haven't really heard much lately besides the usual Chris Cruz or whatever. I know there's this one dude (read: possibly fakeboi?) that hangs around underage kids and goes by some Homestuck character's name that everyone says to avoid, but other than that I really don't know. Most of the creepers I remember are either out of the con scene, in jail, or cleaned up their act.

If you're gonna go the Rubie's Halloween costume quality route, just buy something used off eBay of the same brand. You didn't specify what size you usually wear or what your measurements are, so I'm posting any ones that would work, just pick one accordingly to your size.

Here's some off Craigslist in the Austin/SA area (because I assume you're a local):

https://sanantonio.craigslist.org/clo/5208202995.html

https://austin.craigslist.org/clo/5234321869.html

Also just FYI, from years past that I've gone to ACC, costumers and cosplayers aren't really the best there, and I assume it's going to be that way even more so this year, not only because it's on Halloween weekend, but because people that couldn't go to Oni-con are going to ACC. I mean, granted, it looks a little cheap to be wearing a Halloween quality costume, but there will be lots of people doing the same thing, especially because it's Halloween, so I wouldn't worry about it too terribly much.

What you could always do to make yourself look a little better dressed up versus looking like you're in just a crappy Halloween costume, is to make your accessories/props and get a decent (non-Party City) wig styled if you don't have short, black hair.

The Batman one, I'd definitely stay away from, like anon said...especially since it's aliexpress you're looking at. Most of those are more miss than hit on that website.

I say go with the Superman one if you're limited to those two on that website only.

If you're not looking to spend too much money and can't make it yourself, why don't you try searching for eBay US sellers that have used costumes with non-stock photos, going to Lucy in Disguise off South Congress ASAP to rent/buy a similar costume, going to the Bazaar off Riverside to buy a costume, or hitting up the local fb cosplay groups we have and asking anyone if they have something to sell/lend out? Those are really generic and most local costume shops would probably have better quality costumes than the ones you linked, to be honest.

Egh, yeah. I think they're just trying to really do that and let a few slide so they don't get hounded by preteen tumblr SJWs saying they're "oppressing" them or something. "WAH, YOU WON'T LET ANYONE HAVE ANY FUN PANELS, I'M GONNA MAKE UP RUMORS ABOUT YOUR CON SO NONE OF MY FRIENDS GO, AND EVERYONE HATES YOU!"
At least there's not an abundance of unrelated panels as there has been in previous years. A couple here and there is tolerable over all the handful of Disney and character ask panels.

We usually don't look for any panels to go to (if we go to any), until we're at the con. Too set in the ways of when A-Fest used to only release the schedule the couple days before/at the con`.

>What are you cosplaying? Is it finished?
Hoping to work on FE: Fates cosplays now that I actually have a little bit of time to. If that goes well, we'll be competing in the contest again. We didn't get to wear our IM@S cosplays at SJ because of car problems and getting there late, so we're gonna wear those and possibly Serenity and Endymion so we can actually get a photoshoot in them.

>Any panels you want to see? Any panels you're running?
Ahh I'm not running any panels thankfully. I haven't kept up with what all panels were approved, or the ones people were trying to get votes for, so I don't really know what to expect this year.

>AA or other con prep
So much cosplay to work on, so little time.

Oh, and if anyone happens to be needing to sell their badge because they're no longer going, please let me know! The badge transfer cutoff is today.

How was the cosplay show...what you said? Backstage and being a part of it in general was actually extremely smooth this year, and it started closer to being on time than I've ever seen in the past. We also didn't have to be held for a billion hours beforehand.

I did hear that there was some seating issues and miscommunication on gold pass attendees regarding where they could sit before it started (which was supposedly anywhere, even though they were being herded at one point to fill every seat, being treated like regular pass people), but other than that I didn't see any other complaints. The ticket system wasn't too bad of a thing, either, and people I knew got their tickets fast and without hassle.
