Thing is, though, the NY and DC ones have actual cosplay events that encourage it. Philly's doesn't (last I checked), so it just seems... kind of out of place, and yeah, embarrassing.

Dammit. This post just made me realize there are going to be kids cosplaying at the sakura matsuri in Philly today. ugh. I'm just going to picnic with friends.

11 years, but 10 cons, as I skipped 2007... For that very reason of it just being bad the previous couple years.
Since then, well, just going out of habit? It just seems less and less worth going. It's hot, it's crowded, and less of my friends are going each year. I was on gaming staff last year, and even with free badge and room dangled in front of me, I don't think I'm going to bother this year.

As an 11 year otakon vet, my best advice is to not bother going. ...But I suppose everyone should go once.

You'll be perfectly fine if you stay along Pratt St, but those three connected hotels, the Hyatt, Sheraton, and Hilton, are pricy.
The Days Inn across the street is pretty cheap, but small rooms and sold out fast.
Holiday Inn and Marriott another block down are probably your best bet.

Completed my Blade of Ahrah last night to a good-enough point... It's rough, but, technically it should be more banged up than that, old-ass sword. I'll refinish it when I have more time.
Gonna see if I can shit out a Fidget plush over the course of today. Dodrill's panel is on Saturday.

Think of it applied to another kind of cosplay. Think of... Master Chief, helmet, boots, gloves and forearm armor... but tshirt and jeans. Pretty dumb, right? one would ask, where's the rest of the costume?

Man, I wish all this "mascot cosplay is fine, it's not considered furry" attitude was around when I started making them. I literally put off making Moomba for almost 3 years because, sadly, there was a stigma about it still. (So I did a Pokemon first)
