Awesome! I'll add it to the corrections in the morning, gotta try to get some sleep in a few.

Also, posted the write-up from the person who had a table in the AA. Nothing super scandalous or juicy, but she answered the questions you guys had. Here's a summary since the screens are pretty tl;dr/also so you don't have to go to my blog:

>Artists paid $150 for their tables; vendors paid $300.
>Admins assured artists and vendors that they were expecting 3,000-7,000 attendees, which as we know did not happen, but the artists anticipated those numbers.
>Some artists did very well, others were just barely able to break even.
>On Saturday morning, Amber, the admin who was in charge of the artist alley/vendors’ hall resigned. The replacement staff member was seen once and then never again.
>Set-up and opening times were unclear and not communicated properly to artists and vendors.
>In total, there were 73 artists and 13 vendors. There were empty tables from the beginning as several artists dropped out before the convention began, and people began clearing out early as the weekend went on due to the negativity surrounding the event.
>This artist heard the vendor’s hall was not locked at night, but she is unable to confirm that for certain.

And link to the screens for anyone who wants to read the full thing, including external links to full-size caps, don't want to spam this thread with them: http://hythe.tumblr.com/post/91827173957/interview-with-dashcon-artist

Thanks for the feedback about the legal stuff. Admittedly that's an area I'm unfamiliar with and I've been getting lots of conflicting information. Do you mind if I add that to the corrections post?

If it helps, the volunteer was one of the staff members who posted on /cgl/ during the con; "SMH" was their handle, the other was Ball Pit.

Also, I'm talking to someone who worked in the artist alley/vendor's hall right now. Anything we specifically want to know from that area of the convention? I've asked her to write up a general recap of her experiences, but I'd supply questions if she needs help.

I'm not the volunteer; there's nothing on my blog that reveals their identity. We did the interview over Skype.

Exactly. This person is insanely brave for even coming to me in the first place, and I don't want to take advantage of that. And yeah, I want them to feel comfortable doing a second interview should the need arise.

Just glad to hear it's helpful. I had zero intention of doing any of this, I had just been following the /cgl/ threads and the "Dashcon 2014" tag on Tumblr laughing at how fucking ridiculous everything was. I kept reblogging shit about it, then I got an anon asking to explain what was happening, so I just threw up a bullet list of whatever I knew at that point (hence why it started off primarily mocking the convention). Next thing I know, the post has fucking 35k notes and my inbox is exploding with people asking for more information (or calling me a white cishet bitch for insulting Omegaverse people but that's neither here nor there). I was still watching the whole thing unfold, so I figured I'd just keep posting links to stuff as I found out about it. Now it's become this morbid fascination of how this con managed to goof up so badly, and admittedly I want to find out all the nitty-gritty, if only because of sheer curiosity - but there's also this part of me that is seriously so angry on behalf of the 14-15 year old kids who went to this thing expecting it to be a wonderful first con experience but then essentially were extorted for money and disillusioned into what conventions should actually be like.

Holy shit that got long, sorry. So yeah, not a budding journalist (although I'm having fun with this so if an opportunity for that pops up in the future, I'd consider it). Basically my life has been nothing but DashCon for four straight days when all I wanted to do this weekend was read fanfic and play Tomodachi Life.

Recap stuff before answering:
They had the money to pay WTNV, as we all know. They just neglected to pay them in advance, Night Vale got nervous they wouldn't get the money, etc.

Gingerhaze and the Baker Street Babes rooms are no longer being covered, even after the Baker Street Babes threatened legal action. DashCon has now reneged on that calling it an inconvenience but it doesn't sound like they've divulged the actual reason for it.

From the sound of it, they just simply don't have the money to pay the guests and are trying to weasel their way out of it now that the convention is over and done with. I mean, they've already sneakily changed the convention rules to say they won't be offer WTNV refunds, so I would be highly surprised if anyone who bought those tickets sees a penny in return despite them writing down their emails for refunds.

I honestly don't think DashCon has a cent to its name right now, or if they do, it's hardly enough to cover all of their out-standing debts. As such they're trying to cut corners wherever they can, i.e. shifting the blame to the hotel instead of covering the guest's room fees.

This, essentially.
Especially because Roxanne doesn't strike me as someone who's entirely balanced. Lochland for sure isn't, not by any fault of her own, but Roxanne's behavior from what I've seen described seems like she's someone to be wary of crossing.

They aren't afraid of physical harm, more so the admins unleashing a shitstorm of drama on them. Considering how the handled their convention I don't think they'd maturely handle finding out someone close to them leaked info.

But yeah, the volunteer said that once things calm down, they want the rest to be posted since it's important stuff and the people involved (i.e. attendees, panelists) deserve to know about it. But their hope is that it'll come out from another source so they won't be thrown under the bus.

>> No.7684590 [View]

>>7684574
They wanted me to take out everything about the admins, WTNV, and the 17k. That didn't leave much else because that's the majority of stuff we talked about. I am hella frustrated and embarrassed but there's not much I can do without the all-clear to post any of it.

Again, though, there are more screens in last night's thread. >>7681105

I'm really, really sorry about that. I had the whole thing written up but the volunteer changed their mind about posting the full thing.

I do still think the information regarding the staff structure is pertinent; I knew they had been disorganized, but I hadn't known it was seriously so bad that they didn't even designate specific departments. I feel like that would be Step #1 in trying to start a convention.

My hope, though, is that other staff members and volunteers will be willing to talk - whether it's anonymously with me, making or using a blog of their own, or on /cgl/ or reddit, etc. And maybe it won't be as risky for them to divulge more of the "juicy details." This volunteer is close with the admins so they would know who it was instantly.

But yeah tl;dr sorry if that turned out to be a colossal disappointment. I'm pretty bummed about not being able to share the whole thing but I'd rather it look bad for me than this person getting attacked by Roxanne and her crew

Alright, Q&A is up:
http://hythe.tumblr.com/post/91800502967/interview-with-dashcon-volunteer

Had to edit it down severely because they were extremely worried about the admins figuring out who they are. All of the "scandalous" stuff had to be taken out - but there are still some of the juicier screens in last night's thread.

>> No.7684403 [View]

>>7684374
I'm currently talking with them. They're worried about having the full interview posted so I'm seeing if they'd be alright with me releasing some of the "less scandalous" discussions.

Hey friends, can anyone get an ID on the guy in this video?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_edLlqeAA1g

Originally I was told he was one of the con admins, but then was told he was only an attendee. Now it's been suggested that he IS staff of some sort because he "seemed to be acting in an official capacity" and was "the same guy who is present for the majority of the Dash for Cash videos and tells an attendee the money will go to charity in another, and is likely the guy markdoesstuff refers to in in his post saying everything would have been much better if he would have shut up."

Any help would be awesome!

>I cannot BELIEVE how LOVING the atmosphere was
A loving atmosphere does not a good con make.

As for the BDSM security checks, there's so much conflicting information going around. If I was responsible for doing ID checks and heard that underage attendees were claiming to have been let in, I'd be pretty adamant that it didn't happen if only to save my own ass. Considering that DashCon is probably going to do everything they can to save face, it makes me hesitant to just take their word for it, especially when they don't have a track record of telling the truth.

Like... the ones who have stepped forward to say they were underage and in your panel? Oh dear.

Anyway, thanks for the info on that particular front, you guys rock. Gonna try to get some sleep, hopefully the next development doesn't come out until at least 7 AM. Although I'm not sure how it could get much worse at this point other than, like, foot fungus from the ball pit spreading into people's luggage and traveling home with them.

Right, have had a few people come forward off anon to say that they themselves were underage and got into the 18+ panels, or friends/relatives with them were able to do so. Which, let's be real, isn't exactly uncommon at fandom conventions (ex: underage drinking is insanely prevalent at WinCon, teens are running explicit fanfic panels, etc). But it's not exactly something that's going to make DashCon look better at this point in the game.

>>7682015
Oh man, no, I must have missed those in the shuffle. Source, if you still have it?

Sorry you waited up! If it's any consolation I've been up until 5 each night. Man, I'm not even at a con but I'm following a con sleeping schedule.

Yeah, overall they didn't outright attack the staff or con or anything, just told the truth about how staff operated. It ended on a positive note, too; they said they would consider returning if the con improves before next year. But if they're uncomfortable I wouldn't demand for them to take any unnecessary risks (especially since they /do/ go into detail about Roxanne and her behavior has not struck me as particularly.... reasonable, for lack of a better word).

Hopefully the interview can be posted tomorrow. I'll keep you guys updated.

It's okay, I'm sorry it's taking so long in the first place. I fell asleep when I went downstairs to have a snack, haven't slept much this weekend trying to keep up with all of this.

>answer regular ol' anon ask
>post blows up to 50k
>inbox full of people demanding updates and clarifications and calling me hypocritical white cishet scum for making fun of kids in flower crowns going to their yaoi panels
>this is not my design

On that note, does anyone have solid proof that any of the BDSM panel rumors are true? I've seen so many arguments both for and against the claims being made, and now that DashCon has gone viral, people are exaggerating and making up stories just to stir shit up. So any help on this particular matter would be greatly appreciated!

>> No.7681900 [View]

Just wanted to update you guys on the interview - I have it edited, but the staff member wants to wait a day to think over going public with it since even with the editing they feel it'll be obvious to the rest of the staff who they are. They're going to think it over but I'll post if/when I'm able to share it. Sorry for the delay!

They should! I've learned a lot so far - just gonna have to edit out names so that this staff member can't be identified.
