hahaha cat woman

actually now that you say that, I can totally see where you are coming from on that. the spiderman frame could easily turned into the cat woman goggles. I might cast another set later and see if that works out, cause i know a friend who would love a pair.

Thanks. I always get his name wrong, and the dude needs to get more credit for his work cause he does some pretty wicked design stuff.

Just pulled a casting. about 90% success. the shape and texture came out great, but i didn't add enough black dye, so it's a little too translucent. used up the last little bit of dye, i had too, so i gotta go pick up more now. but other than that, the mold worked great!

(sorry, i didn't resize the file)

just finished the mold for the eyes. theres a couple of small air gaps that i think i should be able to clean up pretty easily, but we'll see after i do pull later this afternoon.

hola. so if you're looking to continue with this, rather than starting over, a there's couple ways you can do it on the cheap. the way i recommend doing it is heading over to home depot (or any hard ware store you can find) and picking up some silicone caulking. enough to cover the thing in about 1/4 of an inch of caulking. then head over to an art supply store, and pick up some plaster cloth, and use that to make a support shell for the mold.

before covering your helmet in caulking and plaster cloth tho, figure out if you want to make a two or three part mold (if you don't know what that is, i recommend checking out some youtube videos first). You'll definitely want to do a two part mold at least because trust me when I say trying to demold a huge fucking helmet out of a one part mold is the worst.
Also, make sure you use some kind of mold release before covering it in caulking, other wise you rise ruining both the mold, the sculpt or both. YOu can use anything from vaseline to pam cooking spray to baby powder as a mold release.
when you go to cover the mask in caulking, use a putty knife, or something similar to spread the caulking around making sure there are no air gaps and that it all one smooth consistency to get the best mold.

Question, once you've molded it, what were you planning on casting the helmet with?

Thanks!

but i burst the seam in 4 or 5 places, so its going to be a while longer before it's finished. i'm really not happy with it

also, it's mostly shading. i'm in good shape but i doubt my abs could stand out that well. even with with costume being as tight as it is.

i'm pretty sure somewhere the artist has to be thinking "no one in there right might should dress up like this, but i can't wait to see them try" or "lets see them try and pull this crazy fucking mess off with out getting kicked of the con"

Comics, Movies, replicas, props, mask making.

I used to do prop work on commission and such, but i sucked at it pretty bad, so i stopped. i'm currently getting into mask making and might turn that into something if it goes well, but until then i'd really just like people to hang out with, chat about cosplay, cons and other such things and be all around dorks.

skype in the email

progress is slow, but i finally got the face shield done for. i'm debating on making the mouth/ chin area more rounded instead of so squared off.

it sounds flippant, but i recommend using less catalyst. you might be just using too much. there should be about 5-10 minute working time for bondo. or at least that's been my experience with bondo.

i really like that idea actually. how stiff is the material? last time i tried something like this, the plastic would bend, and warp after a while of being held up.
