Good to see so much interest in Uchuu.

This thread is for space-like fashion that is mainly inspired in j-fashion. Whether it is related to cyber-goth or cyberpunk is not clear, but it may share some elements.
It is still under development and there is not a
definite name or place of origin, even though there are brands and events dedicated to it in Japan.

Google "Chloma" before saying it is not j-fashion related.

Events are in Trumproom and are usually made by Heavy Pop but then again, they make many jfashion events. The best way to find out events is following D/3 as they have a booth at pretty much every event in that direction but some are nsfw due to futuristic shibari and strip performances, also some events mix both cybergoth and uchuu (kawaii space girls and aliens) as both is futuristic.

The only element that it does share with cyber is futuristic clothes and even that isn't neccessary for anything cyber.

For those not familiar with cyber, everything that's the typical for the average cyber outfit:
- hairfalls (cyberlox, dreads, craft foam)
- no natural hair visible
- googles
- gas mask
- unnatural makeup
- layered ripped net gloves/stockings
- fur leg warmers
-Tripp pants

To make it more simple, pic related even if it is exaggerated.

The main difference between Cyber and Uchuu is at the head as for Cyber you need an artificial hairdo and makeup while you can leave everything natural at Uchuu.

Old cyber was nothing like this. Back in the early 2000s it was closer to 'uchuu kei' now (Except without the kawaii uguu J-Fash overtones)

If you ever find any old clothes from brands like Foetus, Jupiter, Cyberdog etc. you'll see the style was way less neon and more futuristic back then.

This style could be interesting and shares a lot in common with the early cyber (Not cybergoth, they are two different things) look. WHERE? NAME ONE. Please name one frequent industrial rave promotion. Clubs are not raves; Slimelight is not a rave, Batcave was not a rave, Das Bunker is not a rave neither was inferno or synthetic culture. They all evolved out of 80s club culture and have not since deviated from that.

Oh and Fotus were doing cyber/futuristic streetwear for a long time before they were doing neon kimonos and fans, that's exactly why Uchuu-kei is similar. I even had a Fotus transparent plastic mac from the early days with an almost identical fit to the OPs pic. If anyone wants unique Uchuu-kei clothing then go look at what brands like Athena, Jupiter, Cyberdog, Nubia, Illig and Fotus were doing in the 90s/early 2000s. Anyone who says it has any similarity to the cybergoth clothing that started coming in in the mid/late 2000s is wrong, you only have to compare old Fotus pieces to a website like cryoflesh and you can see the difference instantly, you could barely attribute it to Hot Topic mallgoth culture in any way.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I feel as though the main difference between uchuu-kei and cybergoth/cyberpunk is that the latter is for a darker, dystopian aesthetic whereas uchuu-kei is a more neutral or positive outlook on the future kind of like retrofuturism. Of course fashion can be a spectrum of styles, thus Uchuu could look amazing with influences of Lunarcore. However, this doesn't mean both style would be the same. They are different things, and must be distinguished in order to preserve any raw idea behind them.

Lunarcore is not cute. It is cool, yeah, but its looks are trying to be more realistic space suits, while uchuu is much more fantastic. That is, lunarcore uses baggy and grey jackets that really look cold and trying to be realistic on what actually to wear in a walk on the moon: a space suit, protective, etc. Fashion from fa in general is not that fantastic, it tries to be cool and not stand out too much, otherwise is considered tacky.

On the other hand, uchuu is much more fantastic, much more colors, and not necessarily based on the moon or space gear. Think jetsons or Eureka 7. Cute aliens with cute skirts, or cute baggy dresses. Maybe OP would be closer to lunarcore, and yet looks cute without the greyish cold appereance of actual space suits. Looks more like a futuristic outfit that could be anywhere, even earth, and makes you wonder what kind of activities she would do in the future. Jfashion is distinguished for being vibrant and very noticeable. While some would call it tacky, others could consider it creative, with each style a new set of very strong elements. Not a surprise why people often get scared of wearing jfashion in a normie setting.

That's Aya (currently of Mix Speaker's Inc, formerly of Psycho le Cému of Visual Kei fame), in a stage outfit from the single "Gekiai Merry-Go-Round. It is from 12 years ago. The music video is space-themed (cyberpunk was popular that year) and the song is very techno-influenced (for Visual Kei anyway). The whole band is dressed like this in that video. I don't this is is uchuu at all since it isn't even current, much less from the last decade.

I saw some plastic bows (fairy kei not lolita) that would work but i forgot where i saw them. That headdress look a bit like a jellyfish in my opinion anon. Yes the boots were designed for some cyber/cybergoth outfits but the color is too flashy compared to the bubblegum pastel pink of the one piece dress. I will try to find more space like items. Some years ago there was a style called "bubblegum goth" (cringey name but still) and if i remember correctly, had some cute items suitable for uchuu.

Type one is the colourful neons and hoop skirts, more alien.

I don't think these are meant to be guidelines, but descriptors.
Imo, in any case, to avoid a trend to deviate into Tumblr core with completely unrelated elements (e.g. tiaras, white eyeliner, anyone? galaxy dress), a couple of essential descriptors of what the fashion strives to be are useful.
Adding the heavy inspiration of jfashion, and the idea of looking cut, futuristic and alien, yet natural (show hair and skin, instead of being fully covered like in cybergoth).
Lunarcore is way more serious, so this uchuu -lunarcore encounter would try to be cute, with some accents of fantasy, lights and cuteness in general.

Well said anon!Of course i don't think mori kei or dolly kei would create uchuu outfits but fashions like lolita or fairy kei are very good to add uchuu elements. Many think add uchuu or even cyber elements in lolita is ita, but if you create a good balance, not introduce elements that clash a lot or look trashy, you can create very unique coords.
