Craft thread time, everyone!

Knitting, needle felting, crocheting, sewing, tatting, clay sculpting, all of it can come here!

To start things off,
1. What are you making
2. Favorite crafting medium
3. Crafting skill you wish you had

I have a heap of fleece in lots of colours left over from my hat and pony making days. Any ideas for what to do with it?
Pic unrelated, but looks like a cute and simple project if you have some felt laying around.

>> No.7656586

Could anyone recommend a good, thick yarn for sweater knitting? Preferably not shed-prone wool (kinda allergic).

>>7656365
Those could make cute little pins!

Heaps of fleece... I assume it's high quality, comfy fleece? You're probably stuck with plushes or hats. If there's enough of it I suppose you could make a weird patchwork kigurumi.

>>7656586
Damn, I thought so. Everyone and their mother makes hats and ponies these days though, they've gotten hard to sell for a decent price. Screw it, I'm going to make a dragon.

No idea on the yarn, when I used to crochet I'd just get whatever felt the nicest at the store.

1) I'm all over the place when I really should focus on one thing at a time as this AA event gets closer. Last thing I worked on is designing a button to sell for the first time, and before that I was needle felting charms and Animal Crossing fossils. Pic sorta related, but I'm felting bigger fossils than pictured.

2) Fibers... It's too hard to choose between plushies, crochet, and needle felting.

3) I suppose knitting tiny things. I haven't taught myself yet but I think it'd be cute to knit small clothes and scarves for some of the things I make.

>>7656365
Plushies, lots and lots of plushies. Maybe a patchwork kigurumi?

I put everything in a container with a load of silica gel pellets to dry everything out as much as possible. Then I coated everything in 2 coats of mod poge, glued the fries to a mod poged dollar store headband with e6000, painted the gold on with some testor's paint I had left over from another project (to the anon in the help thread who told me about this paint, I love you). I intended to finish it all off with a spray of acrylic but it's not going to be a piece I genuinely use so who cares haha
I'm making a headdress out of the burger but it's not done yet.

working on lots of plushies, this was a prototype Calumon I came up with. Made another one since and need to make another 3 before Sac Anime for the booth.
I need to finish like 10 snake plushies, 5 driftlooms, 6 of my little Puff guy and probably 5-10 more smaller plush digimon.

Lots of websites offer help. I suggest reading enough to understand the basics, and then just buying a simple pattern and having a go. Google any terms that you don't understand as you find them.

>> No.7658484

>>7658468
They look nicely made, but what are they for? Are you going to stick them on headbands, hairpins, broaches, etc? I don't know if people would buy bows that aren't for anything specific.

>> No.7658508

>>7658468
Nicely made but I'm not sure about the pattern placement. While I think the cat part on the right would be cuter a bit higher up, I'm not sure about seeing the cat's rear on the other. Don't mean to be picky, it's just something to think about if you can do something about it.

I am currently sewing this dress pattern with the fabric shown in a following picture:
Olive and white toile
Olive (some kind of super soft cotton weave)
Pink and green stripy liner

I have the bodice of the dress made and the liner sewn up along the neckline and arm holes (havent attached the straps at the top as i am thinking about making buttons up the side rather than a zipper)
Also the skirt will be a half circle skirt rather than the one shown, just above knee length

>> No.7658530

>>7658484
They are hair bows. They actually have little alligator clips on the back, you just can't see them in the picture.
>>7658508
Pattern placement is a bit of an issue. I just try and place the cats where I think they look aesthetically nicest, but the cloth has a lot of large spaces without any print at all, and so it's hard to do it properly without wasting a ton of cloth. Do you think it's a huge issue?
Thanks for the crit.

>> No.7658558

>>7658550
Didn't come off sarcastic to me so you're fine!

Darn that sucks and I understand, it's too bad it's not a tighter pattern so there wouldn't be too much empty space and less likely to have an awkward placement, plus more cat heads.

Might be a bit of an issue when you try to sell that particular pattern, though it could be cute for coin purses or something a bit bigger than a bow? Wouldn't want to waste too much material trying to get the best looking bow so the cat doesn't seem too cropped and all over the place. Try to find tighter patterns if possible for smaller bows.

It is, in fact, upholstery fabric
Is that bad? Haha. It is very, very soft.

>>7658559
Nope, it's the liner though so I am satisfied with the contrast. Plus it feels like butter

>> No.7658750

>>7658566
Upholstery fabric usually hangs weirdly on the body and it's usually uncomfortably heavy. Like I said as well, you can see the weave, that marks it as lower quality fabric but you may be able to get away with it from a distance. If you can make a pretty dress out of it, good for you.

Using pink in the liner is fine, though.

>> No.7659979

How do you guys mark patterns on your fabric? I usually use chalk, but I'm the anon with the fleece and chalk doesn't work well on fluffy fabric. It also isn't very accurate on small details and rubs off in 0.5 seconds. If it were a lighter colour I'd just use a normal pen, but this is black and dark purple. I tried using a metallic gel pen, which was visible but just smudged everywhere.
Am I missing something simple here?

>> No.7659992

Pencil? Like a white colored pencil.

>> No.7660028

>>7659992
Yeah I tried with a white chalk pencil, I had to go over and over and over while pressing quite hard to get a line. The fabric got all messy and fluffy, and the lines were inaccurate for small details like darts.

I laser cut some vaguely moon wand/compact shapes recently, knocked up the shape in ten minutes so they're pretty rough, I was planning on delicately painting them and then adding a resin coat to give to friends when I get the time.
That said, I have a whole draw of creepy cute acrylic shapes from when that trend happened that I still haven't done anything with.

Burger anon, I followed that entire thread and I've been waiting for this delivery. That is hilariously fantastic.

>>7659979
I use chalk, it marks the back of faux fur (which is a little scratchy) really well. If the color is light, try using a soft lead regular pencil. If it's really driving you crazy, you can cut your patters out of tissue paper, pin them on, and sew through the tissue paper and just rip it off when you're done, but I wouldn't recommend unless nothing else has worked. Another thing is magic marker, but leave it for a minute or two to let it dry before handling it or it will smudge (it may smudge anyway, just as a warning).

>>7660034
I'd love to see pics of the charms.

>>7659979
I make kigus (all fleece) and I mostly make patterns on tissue paper and pin them. But I also mark with chalk (on darks) or a soft leaded penicil (lights). Sometimes wetting the tip slightly helps.

Okay, I have a question for you, /cgl/.
I want to make a fully lined JSK top with shirring. How do I do this? Do I have to make the complete shirring panel with elastic first, and attach everything else? Do I put it together as is with the lining, then sew the elastic channels and insert it before I sew the bottom shut?
I'm really unsure since I don't have instructions, and don't want to mess it up.

Making some more poros, I think I'm finally happy with the horn shape. Still need to tweak the placement of it. The snack and tongue have magnets. I also make them with magnetic mustaches. I'm currently working on a commission of a boy and girl poro for someone to give as a gift for their girlfriend so I threw in a cute little bow for free.

I think I'm going to have to make a set for me and my boyfriend now.

Yeah the only problem is that the snacks are that color in the game but in the official art they are a tan color, I'm thinking of making the treat out of the same material of the horns or at least a lighter brown instead.
