Hi girls, I want to get my girlfriend her dreamdress and she told me the name of the dress one time and I forgot. In all seriousness, maybe it's Château de Nounours? It's a wine themed print but there are two versions of the dress, this one:

Got my first pair of brand (Baby) otks today and.. they go over the knee with plenty of room to stretch both length and width-wise, but they... are kinda sheer??? They're black so it makes them look like cheapo socks... wtf. I'm tall and of average weight, but like I said, they have plenty of more stretch to them so it's not like I am stretching them out completely... but they're still sheer. Do they always do this? >> No.9990093

>>9989940
I have a few pairs of different flats and the RHS and I'd say sizing depends on the exact style you are looking at. I'm a half size and find that the shoes stretch out over time, some are a little tight and stretch to fit perfect and some have stretched well beyond my size even though they fit when I bought them. This is with at least a year of constant wear though. It really varies but if you let me know which exact style you're looking at I can probably help you out. As for the rubber being uncomfortable, I don't really find that to be the case however I always wear socks or tights.

Patience, and lots of it. Utilize google translate and be willing to dig through listings to find the good stuff. Also if we're talking about Mercari, sometimes it's possible to ask your shopping service to haggle a bit so you can get a better deal.

I can't speak personally for Gothic Arch but I have washed other screen-printed Moitie dresses before with no problems whatsoever.

I just flipped the dress inside out first, put it in a laundry bag (the thicker, more opaque kind; still translucent, but not nearly as much as the netted kind), added some of a gentler detergent like Woolite; then washed it on the delicates cycle. Then I just hung it inside to dry with a ceiling fan running nearby.

If you're really concerned about it then you could hand-wash it instead or take it to a dry cleaner, just make sure they use the correct type of agent; one of my Moitie JSKs specifies to only use petroleum-based agents, but I was able to wash it in the washing machine just fine.

I think it's uncommon because people perceive it to be more of a hassle than piling on petticoats. If you have access to a high quality hoop skirt that gives your dresses a good shape without showing the bones through the fabric, then by all means, wear it.

Hoop petticoats are relatively new. Good quality adjustable ones more so. The biggest reason I've seen is that they can't be squished down. So in someplace like Japan where they have some very narrow shops and passageways it's easier to go with a tulle or organdy petti that you can grab with your hand and simply hold to one side, rather than fiddle with your hoopskirt, or hold it up and people look at you funny because of your skirt shape. In my counrty it's turnstiles, narrow escalators and sometimes tiny toilet stalls. Saw a girl holding her skirt sideways to get into a stall, I have no idea how she managed inside the stall. Also cafe chairs with armrests can sometimes be pretty narrow as well, so yes, comfort when sitting down is a thing as well.

But if you're asking me, I'm a daily lolita and just generally want my clothes to be as comfortable as possible, so I generally prefer a softer petticoat rather than a hard hoop skirt or even hard tulle. I'd save the hoopskirt for when I need max poof in a princess dress, regular coords just get soft petticoats.

To prevent the bones from showing through the skirt, layer a soft petticoat on top of the hoopskirt, underneath your dress. So you're basically still layering petticoats anyway.

It depends when you're going. If you're trying to catch all the sales and every lucky pack, then you may end up spending more overall; if you are just thinking of browsing Closet Child and mostly second hand stores then probably less.
Last time I went I looked online to see if brands were announcing any new releases I wanted, and also had a quick browse through the seasonal things (you basically can't buy out of season clothes in Japan) to see whether it was likely I would want to buy from places like the Disney store, axes femme etc. I think I spent about $2000 all up in 10 days, including on gifts for others and non-clothing items.

Melikestea can probably do a custom length petticoat.

Aurora and Ariel allow custom pettis, but you'll probably want a good taobao SS to get the message through. Alternatively, message a taobao reseller like MLD or Glitzy.

If you're fine with an A-line and not a cupcake petticoat, then you have a lot more choices with square-dancing petticoats -- you can find them on eBay, if you're American you can try Malco Modes.

If the poof isn't strong enough, your last option is to go with a hoopskirt -- either the adjustable one someone linked above, or custom order one to your preferred size from F+F.

For firsthand lolita, Angelic Pretty and Baby the Stars Shine Bright both have US websites that you can order from. Innocent World and Metamorphose temps de Fille both ship worldwide and has an English section to their site.

Are you into jfash yourself? Are you fashionable yourself? Do you have anything to you and your personality besides fashion? Assuming you're interested in that at all that is.
There's not much "how" to it, you just meet a girl who's into jfashion, treat her like a person and try to form a connection with her if she's willing.
>inb4 "b-but where do I meet girls who dress like this?"
Did you try looking in your local conventions? The sad reality is that many girls don't or can't commit to their fashion in their daily lives so cons are your safest bet. Whether you'll find someone with genuine passion or just some rando who wears jfash to cons like it's a costume remains to be seen, that's depends on the individual.

Ok I thought there might be either a webpage with a list already made that someone can link me to or just the easiest to use site for each fashion type that has a constant thread up, like what is simplest to use for newbies's first purchase. I like the lolita, gyaru, and menhera styles I've seen on here and am interested in buying just a few items to try it out that I can wear as part of a normie outfit, like some stockings or shoes, not a full coordinate yet.

>> No.9993672

>>9993666
Both lolita and gyaru are too broad and varied in terms of style to give you just a few links and hope for the best. In this case I'd suggest you look in Wunderwelt, it's a secondhand store and they have mostly lolita but also girly style and some gyaru brands as well; they're a bit overpriced compared to other secondhand stores but their selection is quite varied, you might find something you like.
I don't know much about menhera but I believe Listen Flavor offer that style, otherwise you should check out https://fymenhera.tumblr.com/ they most likely have the information you're looking for.

>> No.9993688

I'm going to wear my AP dress for the first time at a fair with fellow lolitas, cosplayers and whatnot. However, I'm afraid I prefer my dress without a petticoat. I'm aware this goes against the rules of the Lolita silhouette, and will most likely make me an ita per default. I simply really liked how much more "realistic" the coord looks without the puffiness of the skirt. I hope this makes sense! Oh yes, my question: should I just wear the petticoat to avoid judgement and such? I'm a true newbie, thus I want to avoid as much conflict as possible.

>> No.9993695

>>9993688
I don't really understand what you mean by "realistic", like the poof makes you feel cartoonish or something?
It's possible to have a too poofy petti, it's possible to think you have too much poof when you're new and not used to this look, and it's okay to prefer low volume over maximum poof, the latter is most certainly not a requirement; but if you don't like voluminous skirts at all then maybe you should reconsider your involvement in the fashion - Not because you'll be branded ita but because the vast majority of lolita garments are made to be worn with some level of poof, even if only a minor one, to the point where many dresses and skirts look bad without it.
Maybe it's just my opinion but I feel like the silhouette is one of the defining traits of the fashion, if you dislike it then it might be a sign that other girly styles might suit your tastes better.

TL;DR: If your petticoat is too poofy, try wearing another one instead (if you can find an alternative in time) and see if you like less volume more. I'd suggest wearing some sort of petticoat under your dress so you can at least get used to it, since you probably need that because you're so new.

>> No.9993704

>>9993695
I feel the dress gives off a very royal, yet simultaneously academic look. It is one I greatly enjoy and deem suitable, but indeed, the petticoat adds some sort of cartoonish flair. Without, I feel as if the image is more complete.
I very much appreciate your advice, I truly do. I had already considered my petticoat to be a wrong one for this dress. I will also reevaluate what I wish to get from Lolita. Personally, I greatly enjoy how it brings a royal, princess feel to everyday life. That is why I prefer it when it makes me feel as if I truly am a princess. For some paradoxal reason I did not feel this as much with the petticoat. Nonetheless, the dresses are absolutely beautiful, and it would be heartbreaking to have to part from them due to my opinion on how it fits me.

Once more, I genuinely appreciate your fast and sincere response. Merci! : )

>> No.9993710

Depends on the brand, and sometimes on the individual piece. Some brands always produce exclusively in Japan, others outsource only some of their designs, and others outsource completely.
Don't quote me on this but for example afaik Moitie is only produced in Japan; some of Baby's garments are made in Japan and others are made in China; and I think most (if not all) of IW's pieces are made in China, or their newer ones are, at least.

Actually I can see what you mean, the silhouette does look a bit odd in this stock photo. It's possible that a medium or low volume A-line petticoat will look much better with it, so it can look more "modest" as you say while still having some shape.

Basically if you buy one expect to pay for having it shipped alone, and to pay for EMS (because it can be insured and will be in and out of transit faster).

>>9995027
All you can really do is to wait for them to fade, anon. Try to not beat yourself up about it, crushes are kind of a nice thing after all. It means you really appreciate this person/people! I think it's fine to enjoy feeling butterflies in your stomach at the thought of a person, to feel happy when you see them, to want to hear their voice or see them smile. Just accept that you have this crush and wait.
If it's someone you know irl, spend time getting to know them so that when your crush passes it'll become a good friendship. If it's someone e-famous... Well, just keep liking their pics, I guess. The main thing is, don't be creepy about it. Try to keep your thirst to a minimum. And never ever assume that just because you have a crush, you need to date or fuck them.

Hell no unless it's a high quality one like AATP has made. Your normal festival tier normie flower crown or regretsy craft project looks really really bad with lolita. If your flowers aren't the expensive realistic ones like $5+ a stem, I wouldn't even think about it

Depends a lot on how short, how flat, how poofy you are, what style, and so on.

For chin bobs, berets, canotiers, hairclips, and most of the smaller, flatter (non-head-eating) hairbows still work very well. Also helps if you have fairly thick hair, or at least learn to style it with product and blow-drying so it doesn't lie flat and limp on your head.

Pixie cuts might be harder, consider clip-in fake hair, or go less poofy -- do ouji or fairy kei instead of lolita.

Bodyline has a surprisingly wide range of quality among their pieces, avoid the typical "ita magnet" pieces (like Antique Clock) until you've got a more firm grip on the fashion and no one will bat an eye, I promise.

Also, it coooompletely depends on the brand, the material, your climate, and overall how you care for the bag.
Personally, I own about 20 brand bags (some of which were purchased secondhand) and I have zero that are peeling or cracking, but I live in a very dry climate and I keep them stored on a cloth-lined shelf stuffed with white tissue and plenty of space between them all. For those with long straps that can't be detached, the straps lay loosely beside the bag so that there's no crimping or wrinkling.

I've often seen Bodyline recommended to girls who don't want to spend that much on their first outfit, most people aren't too harsh when critiquing "babby's first dress", they do understand why you're wearing Bodyline as your newbie/beginner dress.

Your real issue is going to be that Bodyline lolita is practically a landmine. A good selection of it is ripped off from burando stuff, another good handful is just plain hard to coord, ugly, or has some other issues so you’ll never look good. Sometimes you even get a dress that’s both ugly and a ripoff, like all of their Mary Magdalene design replicas never look good. I’d suggest doing research beforehand and seeing how they look in owner photos before taking the plunge on any Bodyline item.

Brand pleather — varies widely depending on the storage conditions. Heat will dry them out and make them break down, so they’ll peel much slower when stored in a cool, dry place. But keep in mind if you’re buying things secondhand you have no idea how the previous owner stored it, and if you buy off a sale it’s likely been sitting in storage for a fair while before being marked down so it may already be breaking down.

It kind of depends a lot on you, your wardrobe and what you use it for. Even the prints and dresses mentioned in >>9995483 are generally good-looking, but the fabric they use for prints is quite thick and stiff, Bodyline tulle lace is pretty itchy instead of being soft, so when girls "upgrade" to brand they'll quite frequently sell those off as well.

I've seen girls with brand wardrobes keep around a few pieces for specific reasons. Most of the print pieces are worn to meetups where things could get messy (I think the anon who said this mentioned a paintball meet and picnic meets). Another is the one blouse that comes in many colours, the fabric is meh-tier polyester but if you need a particular colour it makes sense to keep the Bodyline one around until you find something better in the right colour to replace it with.

Bodyline is a pretty shady company so I don't like buying it, I wouldn't look down on you for wearing it, but you have to accept you'd look pretty basic in bodyline. I'd always recommend specific taobao shops first, since their pieces can be great quality (way nicer than bodyline), and since there's so many, you'd look much more unique and get way more appreciation.

>> No.9996002

I don't know if encouraging creativity in newbies is a very good idea. Taobao is littered with garbage quirky prints on shit quality garments that easily equal Bodyline's costumey quality. I've seen plenty of people get skewed impression of lolita in general because they wasted money on Chinese shit and felt it was too much like a costume and not luxurious at all like people claim the fashion is, when in reality they haven't truly experienced the fashion for what it truly is and instead fell for le quirky meme prints. Call me a brand whore if you will but most Chinese brands don't match brand quality, and I'd recommend basic secondhand brand pieces to start off with.
And don't be quick to shit on basic looks, starting off basic is good, it leaves less room for mistakes and thus less chances for ending up an ita mess.

I'm fine with someone starting with BL as I said.
Theres a lot of really simple designs on taobao, and the fact anon even bothered asking shows they have a willingness to improve, and can probably coordinate decently. I don't mean "buy some crazy taobao dress"-- more like pic related (was my second dress, and very simple and pretty). Also not every taobao store is "chinese shit", brand is not the only option, there's a lot of extremely reputable brands on taobao. I consider myself a massive brandwhore, I've bought a lot of stuff at this point, and while taobao isn't as nice, it's almost always a lot cheaper than first hand brand, so of course it won't be as nice.
While it's been about 8ish years now since i've bought bodyline, I don't think they've improved at all, whereas taobao has. Plus BL is mad sketchy.

I'm completely down for recommending lacemarket too. It's just that I'd never recommend bodyline.

>> No.9996039

>>9996002
I didn't shit on basic looks. I also don't think you're a brandwhore, because your opinion sounds really uninformed. I'm not saying this to be mean, but taobao is not one entity and not only "meme prints" whatever that means. I also said specific taobao stores, reputable ones such as infanta, white moon, surface spell...
I'm fine to recommend lacemarket too. I'd just never recommend BL because of it's shady history, and I'd never recommend a brand that has made replicas and sells sex toys on the side to a beginner.
>>9996024
That's true, I've lost a potential lolita by bringing up the dreaded SS. even trying to show someone taobao really blows their mind.

>> No.9996092

>>9996039

Maybe take Infanta off your list. I once mentioned that I bought a blouse that was way off than the sizing table on their sales page (the waist was too big and the bust was way smaller than the table said it would be). Some anon replied that Infanta is pretty much boycotted by Chinese lolitas because they had some drama where they sent a customer a blouse with sewing needles still pinned inside it, then she complained on weibo and they pretty much reacted by insulting her. No surprise the blouse measurements were a lie then.

There are actually two Surface Spells, so if you're gonna rec them, be sure to be specific which one you mean, or say "(both)" if you mean both of them. The gothic one is apparently well-known for having very, very slow shipping. I thought I'd accidentally done a preorder and ended up waiting 2-3 months for my dress, but I find out later that apparently this is completely normal waiting time for anything and everything the shopowner sells. Someone even once described "Chasca owes half the Chinese gothic lolita dresses because she didn't send them out." I had to lol at that, she does make very nice dresses but yea it's a long time to wait and newbies should be prepared for that.

At least I haven't heard drama about White Moon, although to be fair, it's been a very long time since I'd heard that name at all. I have a skirt from them, it's not all that great -- the part that wasn't Japanese print cotton was cheap polyblend that wrinkled if you looked at it wrong, but I guess it's not much worse than Bodyline being all.

I’m hesitant to rec taobao (even without the SS issue) mostly because most of the info is on weibo and apparently there’s a lot of drama that Westerners miss out on. If you’re against Bodyline making replicas you’d be against Rose Melody replicating a dead Korean brand too, but the only way I found out is someone who reads chinese actually posts it here.

nayrt, btw.

I'm not sure if it's just me, but I've always seen bodyline as a supplement to one's lolita wardrobe, a place to hunt down specific coloured shoes to match specific dresses, maybe blouses etc. Not the be all end all option for all budget lolitas to buy full coords and delude themselves into thinking it's just as good as brand, especially in 2018 for fucks sake. Where are newbies still getting the idea that bodyline is a good starting point?

OP, If you want to try out the fashion, at least if you buy secondhand brand you can probably sell it later if you decide the fashion isn't for you. Bodyline stuff is virtually worth nothing, you'll be stuck with a shitty costume tier dress that'll just sit in the back of your wardrobe forever if you decide the fashion isn't your thing. If you want new stuff, just wait for brand sales, some stuff goes dirt cheap and many big brands ship directly overseas too.

For taobao you can get overpriced resellers to avoid the dreaded SS, but the either way the quality is hit or miss and as >>9996002 said, getting a shitty taobao dress has put so many people off the fashion. Maybe I'm a brandwhore too, but it's just not worth it to me when there are so many better options that are not nearly as much hassle.

I don't know many girls who use Bodyline that way. Given Bodyline's quality most girls I know buy the shoes and blouses as a placeholder until they can find better quality things to upgrade to.

It gets recommended to newbies when they're after something cheap, doesn't need a SS, not secondhand (for whatever reasons), and would rather not wait for a preorder. Bodyline meets all those criteria, plus it's good for plus-sized folks as well.

It isn't all bad, but I'll agree, expecting newbies to be able to navigate which dresses are terrible and which ones are not seems like a tall order. On the other hand, lacemarket has taobao scalpers on it, and taobao itself is a whole other headache. So there's not really a foolproof place for newbies to buy whatever they want, all the options seems to come with some little catch that requires research.

The owner speaks english, so don't worry about putting together Japanese requests. There should be a comment space somewhere when you order, just write your customization requests there. Personally I'd specify what measurements you want for each garment (eg corset name: bust 83cm, waist 66cm. Dress name: bust 81cm, waist 64cm, length whatever cm)

AB's owner is super friendly and really responsive so don't hesitate to contact her if you have any questions, just make sure they're worded simply and clearly.

Ok guys, i'm in need of a little change in hairstyle. I'm trimming my bangs again as usual and the tips of my hair. But my hair tends to be wavy in some places. Would a hime cut or some sort of side bangs (if that's what you call 'em) be a bad choice? (thinking of pic related)
I think it would be nice to frame my face when wearing an updo or a bonnet. Since my hair is waist length now, the front parts are alittle long. Thoughts?

>> No.9996870

>>9996859
Afaik hime cuts should be pin straight by definition; you can have bangs and "side pieces" as some people call them, with wavy hair, but unless you dedicate the effort to maintaining the straightened look, it won't be a hime cut.

Depends but honestly probably pretty difficult. One option would be to find a second hand dress and make the apron which is a bit simpler, but honestly still a pain with the ruffles and all. Can spot items be purchased from Krad Lanrete's taobao store or is it still only Chinese comms group order accessible? Or was that only ever for new releases and not leftover stock?

inb4 just purchase from clobba or WW, they don't carry all of the leftover stock that is on Krad's taobao page

>> No.9997913

>>9997874

Yes. I’ve done it once but honestly I’d encourage you to spend $200 getting a nicer secondhand brand dress instead.

They have leftovers that can be purchased directly off their shop. If a listing says “deposit” or “tail”, then that’s for the comms group order and you won’t be able to complete the whole purchase. However if the listing says “spot” then it’s a leftover product and you can buy it from their shop.

Not all of the items from a particular release will have leftovers, though — mostly I see the ugliest cuts or the most unpopular releases just sitting around for ages because without going through the chinese comm groups everything is so overpriced — the spot pricing is pretty close to clobba’s pricing, iirc those prices are a good USD80-100 higher than comm group orders because Krad Lanrete “wants to be China’s next AP”. So I guess even the Chinese girls avoid buying spot items from the shop because that’s some blatant scalping right there. This is the reason I’d encourage you to just get secondhand brand, but mainly if you’re anticipating their next release, you should at least be aware, if it’s not fug then the whole series may not be available for spot purchase.

Thanks anon! I know brand is better and all that, but two of my dream dresses are by Krad and one of them is in stock (or might not be, I haven't checked in a while but it sat there forever). To be a bit fair their prices aren't burando level yet, only if you purchase through clobba or WW, however they're still overpriced for taobao imo. The few times I've seen my dd secondhand it was the same price or a bit higher than new, and not my preferred colourway, so at that point I might as well buy new, a little over $100 isn't much when I already sacrafice my wallet for scalped secondhand moitie. I'm not looking forward to anything else they release unless it's a rerelease of my dds, one of which the chinese comms don't seem to like so here's hoping to that.

I think it kinda looks like it's been sliding down here. It should be on top of the head. Possibly slightly back if you have no bangs (seeing no hair makes you forehead huge, so better make sure you can see the start of your roots before the headdress or get bangs)

Pretty much any of the big Japanese brands have posted multiple tutorials about it. If they let loose, you probably made them too loose tho, not necessarily the wrong way.

Honestly, it's very similar to the knot you make when knotting shoe laces, beside that you loop around all waist-tie fabric instead of only the first loop you made (this is to create this perfect single line of fabric in the middle). And of course make sure your laces are strait and not folded when knitting them.

>Second hand shops are usually on par with lace marke
True, indeed it's patience. Just like LM, every now and then there are great deals. But as the market is a bit bigger and those items more common, it's more easy to walk into them.

Just think, the market there is big enough to have multiple sites used in one country, and all sites have items that are only on their site next to the doubles. We only have LM for the rest of the world. Including some from items from Asia.

Been in the store a few times, items look great. Owners are super nice. If you message them, they can often make things to measure or even on request for you unless it's a limited release or so.

They are official IW retailer, have physical shop and hold regular events, soon have one with 3F as guests, so I'll say they're also quite involved in the com in a positive way. Nothing bad to say about them really.

>> No.9998111

>>9991048
Most stores won't do that. Might be a stolen item. They don't wanna risk getting involved. Unless you know someone who works at a store who could do it for you I would say changes are slim at any store but the one you bought it from.

You could try to OTT way-too-expansive-made-to-order-for-Chinese-wanting-to-show-off-wealth dresses BTSSB and AP make every now and then. I've seen them cost up to 4K tho and second hand is rare and expansive as well.

Why you need Japanese brands? Something wrong with Chinese brands to you? Because they do this much more frequently, there are many who make these kind of dresses. It's popular there lately.

>his kind of pseudo-historical shit had a different name to lolita
Yeah it's not like "pseudo-historical shit" has been there since the very beginning in brands like Mary Magdalene and Victorian Maiden, as well as some of the AtePie dresses having obvious inspiration by it. And it's not like inspiration from Mary Antionette and other fancy historical gowns haven't been around since old-school BTSSB, Meta and AP and IW made gown based on that already, and now just use much more modern and current popular fabrics. How could a Japanese steetfashion with inspiration (among things) in fancy historical European clothing every look like there are historical inspiration in it. Don't they know this one anon doesn't like that?

I mean, it's obvious far from actual historical clothes. It's a very modern interpretation of it. But it's kinda sad how many lolita's complain about pseudo-historical clothes that look very little like actual historical clothes simply because they seem to know very little about the actual historical garbs.

I’d like to clarify. It’s not that brand is better, it’s that Krad Lanrete scalps their own stuff.

This happened with the Le Retentissement De Versailles release. Someone managed to get an in with the local chinese lolitas who could do preorders through their private (chinese) comm groups. They have a different table where every dress was a good 100+USD below what clobba charges. No one really believed clobba when he said he wasn’t the one eating up that 100-120USD pure profit until the leftover dresses went up on Krad Lanrete’s page — and they were barely 30usd below clobba’s pricing.

So that confirmed that it’s not clobba that’s overcharging. He takes his 30-50USD as SS commission, but even the dresses that Krad Lanrete puts up on their own taobao webshop are priced much higher than the private groups by a freaking 80-100USD. So Krad is clearly able to sell to the locals at normal taobao prices, they just jack up the prices higher for anyone who isn’t ordering through one of the private chinese comms, which I’m sure is pretty easy for random gaijin to join (haha).

I’ve been a fan since Mozarabic Chant, but it feels kind of sick knowing that for every dollar you give them some other chinese girl probably got a huge discount because she’s a chinese lolita and you’re not. And every dress you buy basically encourages them to continue with this shit. Of course the leftovers aren’t selling, would you buy it if you had to pay an extra 80USD because you didn’t preorder through your private chinese group?

Sorry for the blogpost -- and I’m not telling you not to buy that dream dress, I did too. I just wanted to explain the kind of stupid shit Krad Lanrete is up to that makes me recommend buying secondhand burando rather than Krad. It’s the only brand where I love nearly everything they make but it’s so tainted with that racist scalping that I also badly want them to fall off a cliff and cease to exist.

A warning about Bodyline's L587 and the skirt with the same print: They are rather narrow and tubular and don't look great on my hourglass body type. They might look better if your waist and hips measurements are not dramatically different.
But otherwise the quality is perfectly fine and the print is super cute!
