I know it might be a bit early, but let's discuss coordinating for colder weather!
>Post winter coord inspo or fav pieces (feat. coats, boots, or heavier fabrics)
>General tips for winter coords (e.g. layering, choice of materials, etc.) and dealing with the elements (snow, slush, etc.)
>What pieces or coords are you excited to wear this winter?
>Anything else winter related

I'll start: I don't know if this is the case in your comm, but does anyone else find that people rarely have dedicated lolita coats? Last winter, I noticed so many girls would just throw on any old normie coat over their coords, even when it completely clashes (random black coat over pastel sweet, for example).

I'm not sure if it's because they find actual lolita coats expensive, have too many colors in their wardrobes to match coats to, don't fit them, can't be bothered, or if brands haven't been releasing designs people like.

I used to not have a coat, but then I saw how beautiful Fanny Rosie was in her lolita coats and they became a sort of dream item for me. They are a hefty investment though and for some lolitas I guess they'd rather spend it on a main piece. IMO if you're living in a cold ass climate that's sort of silly because the coat essentially becomes the main piece when you're outside. I think it's really essential for those lolitas who live in a place that has a winter.

Some more questions:

>How many coats do you have?
>What's your favorite coat? If not, do you have a coat on your wishlist?
>What do you look for in a coat? If it matches with your dresses, if it's suitable for the climate, if you look good in it?

For me, I've always seem them as part of the complete package. Just like how you wouldn't wear normie shoes or an office blouse with lolita, I think the coat is also a vital element in any winter coord. I agree that Fanny is definitely great inspo for coats.

More questions I forgot to put in the OP:
>How warm are your lolita coats?
>Is it ever too cold for lolita? Like with summer, is there a point where you just give up and wait until the weather changes before you start wearing it again?

I just bought pic related a month ago for those below-freezing days.

I have an Axes Femme coat that lightweight, good for Spring and Fall.

For January/February I'll revert to my normie goose-down, double lined, waterproof, wind resistant parka because we average 5 feet of snow/year here and all of that normally falls in 3-4 long duration storms.

I need some winter shoes inspo. I walk a lot, and last few years were terrible in terms of weather. It can be as cold as -20C and most of the pavements are covered in ice, puddles or these abominations made of snow, dirt and salt.
I'd like to be able to normaly walk without tripping every 5 minutes, ruining my shoes or catching cold.

I totally agree! Coats aren't cheap, but having a lolita coat makes your winter coordinates sooooo much better. I didn't have one my first winter as a lolita and it really sucked, for my second winter I just got an inexpensive Bodyline coat and it has held up pretty well over the past 6 years. It was only like $65 too so cost really shouldn't be an excuse to not wear a lolita coat.

>> No.9981284

It’s probably the cost/laziness for most people, but I will say also that most lolita coats are actually not warm enough for those of us who live in buttfucking cold ice tundras. Most of them measure up to the warmth of like a heavy normie wool peacoat, but in the dead of winter many people here resort to quilted stuff. This being said I do have a lolita coat, and I wear it out during the winter and just suffer sometimes LOL.

I feel like brands stopped releasing heavy wool winter coats, I guess because they didn't sell well? I was looking at lolibrary for coat inspo and noticed most of the heavy wool coats were released from 2007-2013 and after that it's a lot of short jackets and cotton/poly jackets which are lighter in weight.

People tend to invest in coats and keep them for many years, so at ~$450 each it's not something every lolita buys every year. I do wish AP/Baby would make an effort to release at least one proper winter coat each year. The older coats are really stunning.

It’s because I live in a cold ass climate that I can’t wear them. I need actual insulated outerwear at the temperature it gets.

However, I do own a brand cape. It’s really nice and I wear it in that small range of cold- but not too cold- weather. I want to get an actual coat in the future too. Most important criterium would be that it fits my wardrobe.

A few cm definitely isn't enough, considering 4cm is the minimum allowance for a dress alone. The coat is going to go over many layers, I'd say about 10cm would be ideal for being comfortable, having good range of movement on the arms, and being able to add extra layers for warmth if needed.

>What do you look for in a coat?
I live in a reasonably warm but wet area, so I don't need full wool and thermal lining but raincoats are an important part of my coat collection. I feel like once you have it done up the coat is the outfit, so I tend to look for neutrals and common wardrobe colour schemes (currently have grey, black, beige, Moitie blue and purple) so that they'll coordinate well with the visible part of my outfit

Very warm! I have one by ETC that is a wool-polyester mix and it' a bit too warm for my tastes sometime. My favorite is by IW and also a wool-polyester mix, but a bit thinner. I also use it as a regular coat because it really keeps me warm and looks nice.
>Is it ever too cold for lolita? Like with summer, is there a point where you just give up and wait until the weather changes before you start wearing it again?
Not really. Lolita has so many layers, if I for example wear tights, bloomers, socks, boots, a long blouse, a cardigan and a thick dress, as well as my trusted IW coat, I actually am warmer than I would be in regular clothes. I have worn lolita in -20° celsius and was fine. The only issue might be the head wear, because you will need a good wool hat or fur ear warmers to not freeze your ears off in that cold, and they might not be as cute as your normal lolita head accessories.

I'm going to suggest going through clobba or MLD. You're going to need someone to communicate with the shops anyhow, going with someone who is used to dealing with lolitas and lolita shops is probably better than going through the average SS, and you'll be able to ask them directly "what brands can do this size".

You can still use cgl to ask if a brand they suggest is good or if you should look elsewhere. Quite a lot depends on your size. I was fine requesting some extra inches here and there for most shops that do custom sizing but my friend with 43cm shoulders got turned down by her choice shops, they said the size was way out of their skills or some shit.

As a last alternative, there's always F+F. English site, custom size. Just the choice of coats can be a little hit-or-miss since their individual items vary a lot from one to the other.

I accidentally stuck my hand through the bottom of one of the pockets though; the lining and pockets are both made of a warm soft flannel that is comfy as hell but rips easily. If you get one of their coats, you may want to reinforce the pockets. Sadly, I can't speak about the custom ordering process since mine was secondhand.

The Amastacia one. It has pockets and I like the black colour more nowadays. Kinda want to other one in black too now, as it's warmer and I do love the design, but I wear a lot more black. But as I have the longer version, it's hard to find second hand and rebuying it new for the colour is kidna expensive.
>What do you look for in a coat? If it matches with your dresses, if it's suitable for the climate, if you look good in it?
-I need to look good in it
-I need to like how it looks
-It needs to fit with at least some outfits I wear
-It needs to be good at what I want a new coat for. The red one is a thick woolen winter coat for the toughest weather for example, but the black one is a bit thinner and to block wind, add a bit of warmth but not too much, or help protect me from rain. Also to add pockets :P.
-It needs to be nice quality both in material and construction. It's an item I wear on the outside, if it's really cheap I feel it's showing quickly.
-It needs to be pratical to wear. I need to be able to put it on quickly and put if off quickly again.

>How warm are your lolita coats?
The red one is extremely warm. I was kinda thinking about getting fleece lining and I'm glad I didn't. It has cotton lining and is made from thick wool, and I don't wear it much beside a few days in winter because it's too warm. But when it's cold enough to wear it, a lighter coat won't do as easily XD.
The black one is more an inbetween. I guess it's comparable to most coats I own outside lolita. It blocks wind, stops rain, adds a bit of warmth. But it's not a heatmonster like the first.
>Is it ever too cold for lolita? Like with summer, is there a point where you just give up and wait until the weather changes before you start wearing it again?
No. You got nice waterproof boots, a good coat, fur lined leather gloves, a shawl if needed, ear warmers, hats, umbrellas, fur lined tights. You can easily add more layers to stay warm.
