Well, I mean one time at the swap meet a guy lolita took his friends out to smoke weed, I was going the same way when we made eye contact.
There was a second where he thought I'd be a nimby about it, but we were cool.

Oh and another time I passed one in the hallway of a con and we complimented each others outfits.

There's a very shy brolita in my comm. He's nice and doesn't talk much unless asked. I'm always a little sorry for him, it must be harder to wear the fashion on the streets.

Does anyone ever want to switch their main substyle almost completely? I love sweet but I feel quite silly wearing it, but I feel far more comfortable in gothic and classic (which I love, but wear less due to hoarding AP and Baby).
Can anyone who's given their wardrobe a complete overhaul give me any tips? I don't even know what I need to know, or prepare myself for, if anything.
Also, have you ever been tempted to go back and re-switch substyle?

I feel you anon. Sweet is still my favorite, but at 27 I'm starting to feel like classic and gothic suit me better. I still wear toned down sweet, but I've started buying more classic pieces that match items I already have (so I'm prepared when 30 finally hits). For example, floral JSKs in black and cream tones--I already have black and cream blouses, socks, plain hair accessories, etc, so all I need to go from sweet to classic is a different main piece. Obviously it's not QUITE that simple, but yeah TL;DR buy classic or gothic pieces that match basics you already own.

Age doesn't matter if you feel weird in it. I'm the OP and it's not an age thing, I just feel more comfortable in gothic/classic. Maybe I just prefer the style on other people more than I do on myself.

I totally agree, and I still totally wear sweet, but as I get older I sometimes feel more self conscious than I used to. I used to HATE classic but it has been growing on me, and I know as I get older I will probably prefer it more and more. So I'm just making sure I got all my bases covered

Im also turning 27 this year and I'm full on sweet. I think it's nice that a lot of newer sweet dresses are really blended with classic and larme, hime, and more elengant, mature styles. Keep on rocking that sweet. 30 is just an arbitrary number. Some girls can be 30 and look like 22 and others can be 30 and look like 40. Some people don't even look good in sweet at 21.

I've actually never met a nice brolita. I mean, I've met very few other lolitas since I am a lonelita. the only time I can is at cons.
The worst would have to be this trans girl, who made no effort to transition, even now. we became good friends, but his coordinates were always disastrous. he'd been posted in the ita thread here a couple times. He would always talk to me about his fantasies to kill someone, and how he would get away with it because he'd target someone he had no affiliation with. I kinda took it in jest and accepted it because i had very few friends. Anyways, one night I stayed at his house and we all drank (it was a group of 4-6 of us? i can't really recall). anyways he said to me quietly when i was going to sleep "If there was no one else here, i would take advantage of you". I stopped talking to him after that, i was only 16 i think. He still wears lolita, too. Him and his gf, a girl i met who also wears lolita, had sex in public a few times too. They're still together, I have no clue why she stays. He got addicted to stealing and stole a lot of stuff, he stole an xbox one from target when it was here. I wouldn't mind meeting more brolitas, but with the huge amounts of sissies and that experience, I don't really feel safe desu.

It feels nice getting that story off my chest, I doubt you guys will believe it, though.

I honestly don't know if my brain made that situation worse. He was trying to kiss my neck when he said it, so I think he was trying to be sexy or something. I really think he fetishized lolita, i was too naive to realise it.
I'm completely okay with brolitas but i think sissys have become an issue more because of how many there are now. I think it makes a lot of potential lolitas uncomfortable. Its kinda sad.

That's true, and I am still currently wearing sweet most of the time. What I really mean to say is that I'm not buying sweet as much now, and have started buying classic pieces to mix in with what I already have.I guess I worded that badly. I admire your confidence though! And your toned down sweet is similar to my style too- I'm more into red and black colorways than pink nowadays.

And yes, you need to love it. It's fun and cute but a challenge to be a part of, and if you don't genuinely enjoy it, or if you wear it for the approval of others/attention, you won't last.

Best: guy in my comm who has kind of a stereotypical catty drag queen personality but dresses really well and is fun to talk to once you get used to him. Total brandwhore. We always compliment each other’s coords at meetups.

Worst: guy who literally introduces himself to new people as “hello I’m (name) but I’m not a creep, don’t worry”. Wears normie clothes to travel to meetups and then gets changed in full view of everyone if the bathroom isn’t big enough or there is none. Always wants to talk about bras, will tell girls about the one he’s wearing and asks them about theirs. Most of us avoid him so he hangs out with the tumblr enbie #woke crowd who think we’re all elitist bullies. They also try to suck up to the cool brolita but he actually hates them for how ita they are. It’s an interesting dynamic.

Those are all the self-described brolitas I know. The other men wear ouji and aristo. I’m also not counting the MtF itas because they’d be very offended by the term, no matter how badly they pass.

I’m going to Japan in November for the first time. And while I have no real plans on buying anything (we’re spending two weeks going on hikes and sightseeing and just eating as much as we can and going to shows, etc).
Now that I have made my first coord (dont look at me like that, I’ve been a Lolita in the heart for a decade and only now was able to man up and actually be really part of it), I’m wondering what can I NOT pass up while I’m there Lolita wise. Best experience was introducing a male friend to the fashion and watching him blossom as a confident and fashionable person.
Worst experience was complimenting a rather homely brolita and having him "um- actually..." when I said I loved Baby's Shirring Princess set. He got upset and told me it was Princess Shirring, not Shirring Princess. Dumbass didn't realize that Shirring Princess has both a tartan set and a solid/bustled set. I know what I'm talking about, I know they have the same name. He was such a douche about it.

La Foret, because all the brand shops are there so you can freely eyeball most of it, but also they sometimes do exclusive sets (check La Foret and brand sites before you go to see if they do have anything).

Closet Child for all the secondhand burando.

Maison de Julietta is also in the basement of La Foret, but if I had to chose between spending $100+ on a photo session or secondhand burando I'd chose secondhand burando. Still, if you only have like half a coord and want to have the experience of dressing up in a full coord (and somehow have a lot of money to burn), the shop's there to dress you up for photos.

If you're into Disney stuff, Princess One Spoon and Alice on Wednesday are a little further away from Takeshita Doori. The decor is cute and they both allow photos indoors. The pricing and quality of the merch is pretty close to Swimmer level, easier to buy some of it and stuff it in your suitcase rather than buy something cheap online and then pay more for shipping it than the price of the item itself.

If you can make it to Christon Cafe, it's one of the old "lolita" cafes that egl lolitas always talk about visiting. Pretentiously JetJ-style western decor and the toilets are overdecorated.

IW has two dresses with segmented collars and full skirts up for reservation, and I feel like they neatly illustrate the difference between IW and IW White. The IW one is much more detailed and likely lined but costs over 20000 yen. The IW White one costs less than half of that around 9000, and looks like casual girly wear for an office-working lolita. Yeah it was pretty odd, I didn't think there'd be petty competition like that, SFE will always draw numbers and the event isn't even until next year, they aren't even competing.

These teaser posts are kinda weird as well, I'd honestly rather if they just said there'd be another update in a few weeks or something like that and leave it. It feels so insincere and desperate to get attention for an event that hasn't even got a date, location, theme, special guests, etc yet while people are going to and getting excited about other events around Europe. Not only that, but it feels like they're stalling for time.

They announced the name, country, and nothing since April, it really does feel like they were hoping to have more news ready sooner.

I don't know what they're playing at but I just really hope they pull it off. I know it sounds like I'm beating them down but I really want to see this all be worth it. I've seen a lot of vague posts from organisers and it sounds like they might be in over their heads. Talk of it being a terrifying amount of money to handle, being in surreal talks with venue owners and stuff.

I just want a date to plan ahead. I'll take that before the venue, even though I know one will depend on the other.

I just watched some kawaii pateen tutorials, including the recent one by Yui Minakata and... wow, she definitely has a different style of makeup from Misako. Definitely a lot trendier with more contouring and eyebrow filling going on. I remember with Misako it was just like 'well slap some fake eyelashes, glitter eyeshadow, and some lip gloss and you're good to go!" back when I was a newbie. For the longest time, I was so confused by half the drugstore makeup section before I started to really get into makeup. I also found it interesting she opted out of fake eyelashes though, since on youtube literally everyone and their grandmother has some sort of favorite fake eyelash for every occasion.

Any thoughts on that particular video? I just think it's interesting that some trends got adopted along the way even in lolita. Although it's been like 2-3 years since I watched one of these videos to be fair.

Ok, well, I just put my foot in my mouth because I'm all talk. Trying to design this stuff to be lolita friendly is hard as shit! I tried, and this is NOT easy. I was like..ok, what's cute. What's wintery fun. How do I make a sloth look good/cute and not weird. How do I combined it all together and not make a mess and then make five other animals in the same style to make one print that could be friendly in two different color pallets.

Lady Sloth, if you're in this thread, I'm sorry I called you out for having a "meh design". You clearly know what you're doing and your print is very lovely. I'm an idiot.

Well I've never navigated by google maps before! Tell me more!

Sorry for the sarcasm, I realise (painfully so) the practical ramifications of this. Plus, who would actually travel 2 entire whole days. You have to stop in between for breaks etc. And yes, I've done borders customs in a car before. I know how painful that can be. What it does, however, is give a sense of how much time to allocate to each day roughly (if you're planning 8 hour drives) so you can know where to stop along the way. In reality, you'd probably be going for a week trip if you don't plan to stop anywhere else or take a day out to view anything.

I've only ever done Europe by public transport and good old Ryanair, and yes I've interrailed. Maybe if I venture through the countryside I'll rent the car but walking around is much better than towing the car with you all day imo.

honestly I'd say just remove the bows and go for a winter-time sloth theme. To make a good lolita design, first just focus on making a good design. It doesn't have to be explicitly lolita to do well with lolitas, just look at Peppermint Fox's stuff. Very little of their art is explicitly lolita, and even their cuts are more simple, but since the work is good and the theme is something lolitas like, their dresses and accessories sell well.

That's a pretty popular print though?? I'm not sure how quickly it sold out on ap jp site, but it sold out quickly of ap SF.

Pay attention to where the sloth's arm begin on your drawing. They're supposed to be near the head and under the capelet.

The bow in the center looks out of perspective too. I'd make the capelet/ hood a bit more flared to make the shape more dynamic / interesting, but that's up to you.

Poop, I guess?

My worst experience was a dress sold as if the zipper was broken, but in reality it was just stuck with a ball of fur. I cleaned it throughout and got it working again.

I've had a few sellers not disclose they owned pets. The dresses arrived in good condition, just covered in pet fur. Lint roll and hand wash and all is well.

cgl is notoriously wrong about releases. Usually when they say "this cut sucks. Gonna pass" the series sells out anyway. The only place you see hype for Honey Cake is on cgl cause otherwise most people don't give a fuck about it.

same. It's bitter sweet for me. I love the wishlist and wardrobe function, but now it's difficult to search for things you don't know the name of.

Does anyone have experience with re dyeing older pieces? I have a black old school meta skirt that's very faded. It's cotton, and entirely black, including the lace. I'm still a bit nervous about dyeing it black again and I want to preserve the tags inside.

It's under serging along the back shirring, so I'm not confident about taking that apart. The cotton dye shouldn't transfer, but what I think I'll do now is cover the tags in plastic and make a seal around that in packing tape just to be sure.

>> No.9985930

>>9985928
Keep the tag above the liquid, tape isn't going to cut it. Might mean a little bit of fabric doesn't dye as deep, but it's the inner liner right?

Yeah, it's on the inside, and there is a lining and built in petticoat as a buffer to keep it up. The simple solution is probably better, I'm overthinking it.

>> No.9985953

>>9985935
Yeah, I dyed a cotton Atelier Pierrot deconstructed skirt not too long ago, has random white parts that I'll bleach later that's attached to the inner liner and I just left the whole half of the skirt out of the dye. Looks so much nicer now.
If you're rit dying you should be babying it too so dye runs into the tag shouldn't be an issue.

i'm so damn lost,i need to bring muh lolita but also several "normie"/himekaji outfits for everyday when i'll chill at home, and some pjs,and products, and different shoes,... and i'm so nervous about it because i just wanna look cute and not repeat my outfits too much for 3 months. I'm too poor for additional luggage fees too, fml.
