Was going to ask in the last thread but it's nearly saging: to anyone who owns the VW rocking horse shoes, how do you find them? I'm trying to decide whether I should pull the trigger on finally getting a pair, but I like seeing reviews before buying bigger ticket items. Do you find they run true to size, for example?

Making a webpage that is better then livejoirnal isn’t easy and takes a lot of time. Perhaps make a tumblr where people can submit secrets then post them to the imgur board every week? Link the post. Or just make a new livejournal account and actually post the secrets every week. Won’t fix the issues with livejournal but we will at least have a staff ( hopefully) that will stay on top of the posts. Make it that all staff is to check the secrets post on Saturday and if the designated mod didn’t post, then another mod posts. Then Sunday make a new submission post. Keep it regular and listen to the complaints people have about the current secrets and I’m sure you will have a better outcome then the mess we have been dealing with.

Second it depends on what type of headdress it is. If it’s fabric, wash it like you would a dress. Soak it and use what ever soap you prefer then lay it flat to dry. Use what ever method you prefer to stiffen it ( starch for example) and iron it out to the shape you want.

What type of headdress is it, what is it made from.

First, remove anything that won't survive water or being roughly scrubbed. Anything metal inside it needs to go or they'll rust and stain the fabric, so if you have a wired bow or a metal headband, undo the stitching and remove it, wash the fabric, then re-insert the metal and stitch it back (I also recommend spraying a coat of sealant on the metal before reinserting it to prevent rust as well).

Anything like velvet flowers that can't handle being soaked in water also needs to be removed. If it's sewn onto the headdress, rip the stitches out, clean each item seperately, then sew it back. Pearls are generally fine but you'd want to handwash to avoid damaging them, inspect metal chains for rust and see if you need to replace them -- new headdresses are generally fine but if it's old and rusted the rust will transfer to the fabric and stain it, plus either way you'll want to replace any rusty chains on your headdress, because when people try to talk to your face they'll be looking at your head, and at some point will notice your headdress is rusting.

As for the headdress itself, look up the matching dress it came with, since it's usually the same fabric you can generally wash it the same way. If the material is screenprinted/flocked and needs PCE-free dry-cleaning, then that's what you're stuck with. If it's a dress that people commonly throw in the washing machine then go ahead and do that. Even if you're stuck with one of those red velvet ribbons on white headdress, the advice is the same as for jsk -- soak in cold water with color catcher repeatedly until the water runs clear.

I've been thinking for quite a while, why is it that people in lolita fashion are so sensitive to criticism? In any other fashion community there's criticism, but you never really see people getting half as upset as you see people in the lolita fashion getting. They act like it's some huge offensive gesture, like you can't just pick up a fashion magazine and see a "hot or not" or "dos and donts" section that criticizes fashion choices.

Even basic, simple criticism such as "I don't like that she paired navy shoes with a black OP" can send someone into a catastrophic meltdown. It's such a bizarre phenomenon.

This sort of sensitivity extends to people thinking it's okay to wear items that don't fit them as well. In no other fashion would it be acceptable to squeeze a 180lb flabby body into a dress to the point you can't even zip it up and slap a cardigan over it and yet this happens so often in lolita.

What is the reason for this entitlement that is so prominent in lolita?

Someone pointed this out in the feels thread regarding lolitas joining gyaru and getting upset when given advice, it's the same cause: People see any criticism or advice as a personal attack rather than people trying to help them because they don't want help, they don't want to be told that their half assed attempts are "wrong", they want asspats and they're incredibly thin skinned which is bizarre considering they're getting involved in alternative fashion which requires thick skin by default.
Our subcultures have devolved into fandoms to which anyone can join regardless of whether they participate and how dedicated they are, so this is what we get.

Lolita is the only fashion community I’ve ever been a part of where women will wear things that very very clearly do not fit at all (e.g. waist seam above the breasts, leaving things unzipped, JSKs worn like high-waisted skirts) and everyone is expected to ignore this and call them cute anyway. What's actually unusual about online lolita comms is that people feel entitled to give their opinion about everything, even if someone isn't helped by it. In other hobby and fashion related groups I'm in, people only discuss the coords of models/magazines. If I went to any other board and started posting pictures of my classmates, I would probably get called out for it, but here we post pictures from the personal facebook accounts of people we hang out with on sunday like it's nothing.

I don't feel ''nauseated'' but I have become more careful about what I say and do at a meet-up. Maybe I'm paranoid though. One time I had to mention that I'm vegan several times, because different people kept asking why my food looked different than the rest (we all ordered the same ''high tea'' but I had the vegan version). Someone asked why I'm vegan, I explained, and that was that. That evening, there was someone complaining in the comm thread about lolitas who feel entitled to meets being vegan and vegans acting like special snowflakes. Obviously it could have been about someone else but the timing made me suspicious.

I don't know in which thread but I also saw someone complain about a boy in our comm who is still a minor. At least, I think it was about him because of the description and it was the day after the meet. That anon was complaining about sissy and transtrenders attending meets, though he never said he has a different gender or anything, he's literally just a boy who likes lolita and didn't look 100% perfect because it was his first coord.

Tldr: I suspect comm members shitpost about us on cgl and I don't know why it bothers me

If they're a grown ass adult and still dressing poorly, I'm less likely to be honest if they ask for constructive criticism. Partially because they should really know by now what doesn't look good at all, but also to avoid the chance they get buttmad. Younger girls I'm more likely to be honest with, but try not to be an ass about it.
I've had to do tons of art critiques throughout college, so I've gotten good at giving opinions that you don't realize were criticisms until later lol

Also keep in mind that you giving crit to itas will not make them magically transform for group photos, nor is it guaranteed to even make them improve later on. Plus you can't really exclude people in group photos. A lot of itas will grow out of it but a lot won't. It usually works better to actually befriend them and give advice as a friend.

The liklihood of those dresses looking like that if you buy them is basically nonexistant. That looks like a picture taken from Taobao, and put on etsy either by the original shop or by a reseller.

While a dress being sold on Taobao (which is basically Chinese ebay/etsy/amazon with individual shops) does not always equal bad quality, there are a great deal of shops that peddle very low quality pieces. Unless that dress is from one of the reputable Chinese brands on Taobao it's likely they made a sample product of decent quality, photoshopped the shit out of it, and then make it much more cheaply for sale. So the photo looks pretty but it won't be what you recieve.

Just for refrence Western indie brands based in the US or Europe will likely cost as much or more than Japanese brand. Product runs are smaller, production costs are higher.

AP actually shits out new cuts quite frequently -- it's the one reason you always need to check measurements and how it's sitting on the mannequin, every release seems to be a different size, different shape, some different bodice details that might make this week's release too small or too baggy for girls that would fit perfectly into last week's release. They could so easily just reuse any of their previous Halloween cuts, or go the other way and do a basic special set cut.

At this point I think it's on purpose, they think the popularity of HL is tied to the cuts of the dresses so they don't want to mess with it.

I'm going to translate it for my local comm so now I looking for source for pictures and comics. Of course I can tear up my own copy, but I want to be sure that it worth.
I made a brief search as far as I could but found nothing. Though, I'm not very good at deep-stalking in global internet, so I'm here to ask help. Would very appreciate if somebody respond!

(Otherwise you can tell me where to upload my own scans so everybody else could find it. If I find nothing now - I'll scan my own copy so it's not a big deal to share with others)

First off, that's a taobao dress and not Western indie like other Anon said. Second, it still looks shitty and horrible. Etsy dresses have basically no lace, this thing is a gross lacemonster. The chiffon bustle doesn't match the other fabric, and there's too much lace

Here's a typical Etsy dress, notice the cost cutting measures such as lack of detail and bad cut. Dollbe is similar but her lace looks decent at least

I think you're missing everyone's point: Please do not scan this book in its entirety, at all, regardless if it's been done before or not. If you want to share a single quote or illustration from it that's fine but don't scan the entire thing. It's affordable and readily available, if your comm wants to read it then they should buy it.
Doing shit like this hurts us in the long run, our subculture is niche and lacking in original content as it is.

Well, to share with my comm I have our local social network so this is not a problem.
My idea is to share scans wide (once I anyway will do this), actually, so nobody else should ruin their own copy of book once again and could just get my scans. I just not very familiar with global internet and don't know the place where ones would go to look for it, so I need a bit advice here.

I think everything became harder to find since egl.livejournal.com kind of died. People sometimes post entire magazines on cgl or upload them to imgur so you just kind of have to be there at that time to save them or save the link. But it makes them really hard to find through google or something. But I sometimes still find old scans on jmagazinescans.livejournal.com. I know lolitas don't really use livejournal anymore but at least if you post it there, people can find it if they look for it.

GLB got their money from publicity, not much from individual sales, anon. Although it does impact, they weren't really losing money by having it scanned outside Japan.

The book makes it profit all from the sales, there's no publicity to support its existence. That's why it's different from scanning GLB.
