Was going to ask in the last thread but it's nearly saging: to anyone who owns the VW rocking horse shoes, how do you find them? I'm trying to decide whether I should pull the trigger on finally getting a pair, but I like seeing reviews before buying bigger ticket items. Do you find they run true to size, for example?

Not sure about RHS, but I own a few pairs of melissa x VW pumps and I buy a size US9 even though I'm a US8.5. Normal 9s are too big on me but the VW I own fit like a glove.

They could be hosted on imgur and then posted here when the secrets are made. But this also won’t allow submissions. Making a webpage that is better then livejoirnal isn’t easy and takes a lot of time. Perhaps make a tumblr where people can submit secrets then post them to the imgur board every week? Link the post. Or just make a new livejournal account and actually post the secrets every week. Won’t fix the issues with livejournal but we will at least have a staff ( hopefully) that will stay on top of the posts. Make it that all staff is to check the secrets post on Saturday and if the designated mod didn’t post, then another mod posts. Then Sunday make a new submission post. Keep it regular and listen to the complaints people have about the current secrets and I’m sure you will have a better outcome then the mess we have been dealing with.

Sorry this is kinda late, but on the topic of washing... what's a good way to wash headdresses? Always kinda grosses me out to buy them 2nd hand, but I usually do anyway because I like the style/etc.

>> No.9949275

>>9949200
First the confessions thread has been turned into a washing thread

Second it depends on what type of headdress it is. If it’s fabric, wash it like you would a dress. Soak it and use what ever soap you prefer then lay it flat to dry. Use what ever method you prefer to stiffen it ( starch for example) and iron it out to the shape you want.

>> No.9949278

>>9948339
I wear US 9 and got size 6 in them. But I emailed the VW store asking what the sole measurements were for the two sizes I was between. That's what I'd recommend doing.

>> No.9949315

>>9949200

What type of headdress is it, what is it made from.

First, remove anything that won't survive water or being roughly scrubbed. Anything metal inside it needs to go or they'll rust and stain the fabric, so if you have a wired bow or a metal headband, undo the stitching and remove it, wash the fabric, then re-insert the metal and stitch it back (I also recommend spraying a coat of sealant on the metal before reinserting it to prevent rust as well).

Anything like velvet flowers that can't handle being soaked in water also needs to be removed. If it's sewn onto the headdress, rip the stitches out, clean each item seperately, then sew it back. Pearls are generally fine but you'd want to handwash to avoid damaging them, inspect metal chains for rust and see if you need to replace them -- new headdresses are generally fine but if it's old and rusted the rust will transfer to the fabric and stain it, plus either way you'll want to replace any rusty chains on your headdress, because when people try to talk to your face they'll be looking at your head, and at some point will notice your headdress is rusting.

As for the headdress itself, look up the matching dress it came with, since it's usually the same fabric you can generally wash it the same way. If the material is screenprinted/flocked and needs PCE-free dry-cleaning, then that's what you're stuck with. If it's a dress that people commonly throw in the washing machine then go ahead and do that. Even if you're stuck with one of those red velvet ribbons on white headdress, the advice is the same as for jsk -- soak in cold water with color catcher repeatedly until the water runs clear.

I've been thinking for quite a while, why is it that people in lolita fashion are so sensitive to criticism? In any other fashion community there's criticism, but you never really see people getting half as upset as you see people in the lolita fashion getting. They act like it's some huge offensive gesture, like you can't just pick up a fashion magazine and see a "hot or not" or "dos and donts" section that criticizes fashion choices.

Even basic, simple criticism such as "I don't like that she paired navy shoes with a black OP" can send someone into a catastrophic meltdown. It's such a bizarre phenomenon.

This sort of sensitivity extends to people thinking it's okay to wear items that don't fit them as well. In no other fashion would it be acceptable to squeeze a 180lb flabby body into a dress to the point you can't even zip it up and slap a cardigan over it and yet this happens so often in lolita.

What is the reason for this entitlement that is so prominent in lolita?

>> No.9949730

>>9949722
It's not just in lolita actually. Waltz in to any goth group or page on FB and just imply that it's a music based subculture, see how many people go into a fit and cry that you're a gatekeeping elitist.
Someone pointed this out in the feels thread regarding lolitas joining gyaru and getting upset when given advice, it's the same cause: People see any criticism or advice as a personal attack rather than people trying to help them because they don't want help, they don't want to be told that their half assed attempts are "wrong", they want asspats and they're incredibly thin skinned which is bizarre considering they're getting involved in alternative fashion which requires thick skin by default.
Our subcultures have devolved into fandoms to which anyone can join regardless of whether they participate and how dedicated they are, so this is what we get.

I don’t get it either. Lolita is the only fashion community I’ve ever been a part of where women will wear things that very very clearly do not fit at all (e.g. waist seam above the breasts, leaving things unzipped, JSKs worn like high-waisted skirts) and everyone is expected to ignore this and call them cute anyway. I guess it’s because a lot of women get into lolita from anime and have zero experience with fashion outside of that, so instead of the usual fashion attitude they have the Nerd Social Fallacies attitude where everyone has to accept everyone unconditionally and never ever say anything that’s not positive otherwise you’re a bully. I’ve noticed that this has gotten a lot worse as my comm has become more sweet, while in the past it was primarily gothic and had much higher standards to the point of elitism. Maybe it’s just my comm, but the most sensitive people seem to gravitate towards sweet.

>>9949742
It’s more chill in the sense that nobody is going to rip apart your appearance or call you a poser to your face, but less chill in that you have to be careful about expressing your opinion in case someone takes it the wrong way and declares you to be a fatphobic elitist transphobic bully hater. It’s like the other side of the coin.

What's actually unusual about online lolita comms is that people feel entitled to give their opinion about everything, even if someone isn't helped by it. In other hobby and fashion related groups I'm in, people only discuss the coords of models/magazines. If I went to any other board and started posting pictures of my classmates, I would probably get called out for it, but here we post pictures from the personal facebook accounts of people we hang out with on sunday like it's nothing.

Someone asked why I'm vegan, I explained, and that was that. That evening, there was someone complaining in the comm thread about lolitas who feel entitled to meets being vegan and vegans acting like special snowflakes. Obviously it could have been about someone else but the timing made me suspicious.

I don't know in which thread but I also saw someone complain about a boy in our comm who is still a minor. At least, I think it was about him because of the description and it was the day after the meet. That anon was complaining about sissy and transtrenders attending meets, though he never said he has a different gender or anything, he's literally just a boy who likes lolita and didn't look 100% perfect because it was his first coord.

Also keep in mind that you giving crit to itas will not make them magically transform for group photos, nor is it guaranteed to even make them improve later on. Still haven't found a place where I can talk with other subcultures without too much posers. Any goths here that know? I'm just very unfimiliar with how goths get word around (like I said, I generally meet other metalheads or bikers), let alone what places are relatively poser free.

>>9949742
Its only chill because only few people are honest in your face, because it results in being called names and drama. People being fakely kind because they don't want to drama in their face isn't "much more chill". It's a way to slowly kill a subculture by letting too much posers in.

Otherwise, any subsulture you fit in is chill, it's only not chill for posers. And in other ones at least it's an honest chill...

Most people don't give concrit anymore on places like FB because it'll be a witch hunt. Of course you don't see it. But forcing people to fake nicery until they're anonimous is kinda opposite of a chill comm that doesn't get upset about concrit.

I try to avoid the topic because I don't want to be mean. But I always want to be honest, so if they ask I'll be honest as politely as possible. If they don't like my opinion, don't ask me. People tend to know that quickly and generally appreciate it. After all, compliments also mean more that way.

>> No.9950481

>>9950458
I literally stopped doing it because of the drama. Sometimes even OP liked it but other random people started baking at me for not being all positive and nice. It doesn't happen all the time I admit, some are really nice and want to improve, but often enough I often just decide to forget about it before I can hit the post button because I don't want to risk another piece of drama that I can't even stop getting notifications from unless I remove my comment because FB always notifies replies to your comment...

Don't know about others as it's not the most common topic. "why do you post people in ita tread" is just not the average meet conversation, but I doubt it's just me. Maybe some use it as excuse to justify ita treads. But it's kinda the other way around imho. Lack of concrit helps filling that tread, but it doesn't justify it. By that, nitpicks can get concrit too, and many those regularly in the ita tread have been proven to not listen to concrit anyways. I think people should see ita tread as a poser call-out/laugh tread over a concrit tread for 70% of the cases (rest being decided into vendetta, nitpick, and people who actually take concrit and learn). Concrit doesn't fix people who don't listen to it. That being said, ita tread is made with a mean purpose. To laugh at people who dress badly. I admit I like lurking the ita tread, laughing and hating on how bad people look, but it's a mean purpose where concrit isn't, and I still go laugh at the ita tread if I could give concrit.

So yes. It has happened to me enough times that it caused drama and witch hunting for me not to want to deal with it anymore...

And I don't need to justify ita treads. It's mean and I like it. I gladly laugh at people who can't look in a mirror and figure they look crap, and I won't feel bad for them.

But them I don't give concrit. When I give concrit I genuinely want to give advice and try to be as nice and polite as possible. If I think you're beyond hope I ignore and wait for you to get posted here.

>> No.9950510

>>9950223
I’ll give unsolicited concrit only if the person is practically having a wardrobe malfunction, like if their wig is falling off or their skirt is flipped up. Otherwise I’ll only do it when asked and only if I know the person isn’t going to go into a big sulk and vaguepost about elitist boolies later. Anyone who views lolita as some integral part of their identity is off-limits.

I always make sure that the concrit is overwhelmingly positive, emphasise that it’s just my opinion and offer suggestions. Usually it’s simple stuff like what colour to choose for shoes, how to tell if a blouse’s neckline suits a JSK, that sort of thing. As far as I know, nobody has ever taken issue with me saying these things. Sometimes they take my advice, sometimes they don’t.

>> No.9950521

>>9950223
The art is doing this in away that they think you are giving advice because you are friendly and honestly trying to help them. If someone has a horrid wig recommend a specific one you just know would look so cute on them. If they have bad make up skill recommend them a tutorial series on Youtube.
Bad way:
>"I don't want to say this but..."
This makes them feel bad about what they are doing.

Better way:
>"If you need help picking out something just ask."
>"Have you ever tried X? I think that would look great in you!"

This makes them feel like they can get better.

When it comes to things like boobloaf and bad wigs most people quickly learn what they are doing wrong just from following the style. Most lolitas will have done particular things wrong when they are starting out. You have two groups of newbies that you should give advice , those that ask 1000 questions and those that are too afraid to ask. Everyone else is either fine on their own or they refuse to hear out any advice any way.

lol. The writing actually says one dress from each and two accessories.

You're not guaranteed to get the exact items in the photo.

That's how lucky packs work. The brand gets some money and also gets to clear the space so they can put up next season's new, pretty dresses. You get two dresses and two accessories at way lower than half price, but you don't get to pick which ones.

To the brands, it's worth it to clear the space to display new dresses and make more money. To you, it's worth if it if you're not picky which particular dresses you're buying. It's a win-win situation all around, provided you're not picky.

New holy lantern colors, including replica teal! At laforet grand Bazaar this weekend

>> No.9951351

>>9951317

Try to keep in mind these are Japanese companies. One of them is named "me ten months" and another made up a new word to mean the "advent of a angel". It's not like they're newbies needing to prove their worth by sticking to lucky pack vs special sets. They made the clothes, they hold the tea parties and fashion shows, they can name their packs "kira kira set" or "odekake going out set" if they think it sells better.

Besides, special sets vs blind packs are easy to remember anyway:
special set: made specially for this set
vs

happy pack: you can't chose the designs but the price is low so we hope you're happy
lucky pack: it's a blind pack so do you feel lucky tonight

Trial and error, mostly, but I've been into the fashion for quite a long time so I had time to experiment and try things for myself.
Do you actually have any lolita clothes or did you just compile a wish list before you started? If you have none and are just starting out, I think that by the time you do get your first pieces, you'll have a better idea of what works for you and what doesn't. So being new to the community, I was browsing through LM and picked a few cool things and enjoyed my time looking at all the pretty designs. Then I went to Etsy, in hopes of finding some bows or matching jewelry with the dresses I got, and then I see that there are some shops on there that have AMAZING designs and full dresses. So I thought to myself, how come people are willing to pay $100+ for a used dressed (you have no idea who did what in it) but won't pay $150 for a costume made thing that sometimes even looks nicer than whatever a brand did. Is it literally just the brand name?

The liklihood of those dresses looking like that if you buy them is basically nonexistant. That looks like a picture taken from Taobao, and put on etsy either by the original shop or by a reseller.

While a dress being sold on Taobao (which is basically Chinese ebay/etsy/amazon with individual shops) does not always equal bad quality, there are a great deal of shops that peddle very low quality pieces. Unless that dress is from one of the reputable Chinese brands on Taobao it's likely they made a sample product of decent quality, photoshopped the shit out of it, and then make it much more cheaply for sale. So the photo looks pretty but it won't be what you recieve.

Just for refrence Western indie brands based in the US or Europe will likely cost as much or more than Japanese brand. Product runs are smaller, production costs are higher.

AP actually shits out new cuts quite frequently -- it's the one reason you always need to check measurements and how it's sitting on the mannequin, every release seems to be a different size, different shape, some different bodice details that might make this week's release too small or too baggy for girls that would fit perfectly into last week's release. They could so easily just reuse any of their previous Halloween cuts, or go the other way and do a basic special set cut.

At this point I think it's on purpose, they think the popularity of HL is tied to the cuts of the dresses so they don't want to mess with it.

I don't understand why people are having such a negative reaction here, all other Novala essays and interviews have been shared and translated. Those were also from inexpensive books by ''indie artists''. A while ago someone shared an interview from DJ Sisen on discord and it actually motivated me to buy that book.

I think you're missing everyone's point: Please do not scan this book in its entirety, at all, regardless if it's been done before or not. If you want to share a single quote or illustration from it that's fine but don't scan the entire thing. It's affordable and readily available, if your comm wants to read it then they should buy it.
Doing shit like this hurts us in the long run, our subculture is niche and lacking in original content as it is.

It's not readily available in all countries and certainly not in other languages. Just last year people on cgl were complaining that they don't have enough online references to edit the lolita wiki page, maybe this book can be used for that.

Book Depository ships worldwide for free, SP/VR is even discounted a bit there. If your comm can't read English, how would scanning the entire book help? Are you also going to translate it all?
Reach harder, pirate-chan.

Well, to share with my comm I have our local social network so this is not a problem.
My idea is to share scans wide (once I anyway will do this), actually, so nobody else should ruin their own copy of book once again and could just get my scans. I just not very familiar with global internet and don't know the place where ones would go to look for it, so I need a bit advice here.

I think everything became harder to find since egl.livejournal.com kind of died. People sometimes post entire magazines on cgl or upload them to imgur so you just kind of have to be there at that time to save them or save the link. But it makes them really hard to find through google or something. But I sometimes still find old scans on jmagazinescans.livejournal.com. I know lolitas don't really use livejournal anymore but at least if you post it there, people can find it if they look for it.

GLB got their money from publicity, not much from individual sales, anon. Although it does impact, they weren't really losing money by having it scanned outside Japan.

The book makes it profit all from the sales, there's no publicity to support its existence. That's why it's different from scanning GLB.

It isn’t mostly his essays. It’s like 2 of his stuff with the rest of it art and their own work. You aren’t translating his stuff but theirs really, and you could easily ask them. Getting permission is as easy as looking up their insta

>>9952521
Glb wasn’t an indie work, it was mostly ads from brands, and it seems to be the case that Babi does want it to reach others so they went online. Not comparable.

I'm afraid they just don't approve such post for legal reasons. Like livejournal itself would also just delete it by first claim from anybody. After all, livejournal is pretty official and big company. I'm looking for something less formal. I was thinking about thepiratebay, but not sure if lolitas know about it worldwide. Also I would prefer some online storage where scans be safe without my presence, as torrents require.

Nice idea, thank you! Do you know something about their legal policy? How would they react on any claims?

then maybe you can use jmagazinescans.livejournal.com because i don't think you can google things that were posted on imgur with just the name of the book. i've posted books for other hobbies on livejournal and never had any problems. i don't think livejournal really cares about anything.

What additional places would you suggest? I thought about some manga and comics related sites, but yet again - not very familiar with world-wide well-known places where I can just dump my non-edited non-cleaned scans.
