Exactly this.

And yeah, "Larme kei" isn't real either, but most Japanese girls just use "ガーリー" or "girly," which is such a general term in the West that we needed something to distinguish the Japanese girly style we see in Larme and other mags/brands from the general term girly.

Isn't larme style essentially the same thing as the soft, femme style that was popular in the west as well a few years ago though? Before instagram baddies and all that. Everyone wanted to be a unicorn mermaid princess uwu. Forever 21 and stuff. Much like how otome style is a made-up western term for trends that were popular in japan that evolved from 70s prairie style like gunne sax. Really, it's all just an elaborate cycle of recognizing and renaming mainstream fashion trends that we're borrowing from each other.

considering F21 came from Korea theres totally a lot of soft girly stuff there. "girly style" doesnt translate well, hence the reason im using "soft sister." something more open-ended.

there's definitely an aesthetic, but not "style rules" or brand allegiance like lolita/otome/etc.

i know this is getting long but just seeing so many new people to jfashion being obsessed with labeling their style i think soft sister would be a great way to generalize a lot of the aesthetic that people are interested in but tend to mislabel as lolita. /end

So because lolita has negative connotations we should use questionable terms for other jfashions as well? The label is vague on purpose. At least, I mainly started using it because sometimes I want to post cute jfashion coords without worrying if it fits the ''rules'' of a certain style. When we had active larme theads, there was always someone crying ''that isn't larme'' because of the make-up style or whatever. So I had to open every thumbnail before posting to make sure. Same with otome kei threads, there were a lot of coords I didn't post because I thought it was too matchy-matchy. With girly style/casual cute threads you can just post whatever you want and Japanese people also use girly style a general term so it's also a different way to find coords. But it doesn't mean you can post literally everything that's tagged with casual cute or girly style from instagram in those threads.

>>9947131
Idk if you've looked at the board recently but jfashion threads aren't really active anymore without some bait or arguments. That's probably why the last girly style thread died (besides that someone posted a ton of new bait threads that killed a lot of threads yesterday).

I meant more on the “merch” side since I don’t really know what that means personally.
You can find general jfashion in almost every major Japanese city. I’ll stand by Osaka as a rec if that’s your attitude, you probably don’t even need to leave Tokyo.
If you wanted to explore more, other places like Yokohama, Sapporo, Nagoya, Sendai, Fukuoka and so many more have malls you can visit. It really just depends what you want.

I know how you feel anon. Sometimes it really feels like this type of fashion is gradually dying out, when in reality its just changing. I do think it is getting harder to find newer styles and coords though.

>>9948009
I wish there were more active jfashion communities too. It really sucks that forums and blogs for it died out/became less active and now we're stuck with social media. I'd like to join a fb community but I dont want it connected to my personal account and I really don't like fb's format for discussion. It doesn't help that cgl's non-lolita threads are much less active than they used to be

I’m not personally a huge fan of the direction they’re going in, but it’s just just early August! I have a feeling they’ll settle into more of their “original prints” and typical patterns and cuts as the season goes on. They release something new almost every week, so I’m okay with not liking every single thing lol.

I want to get in to mori kei but I'm interested in less layered/wooly sides of the fashion since I live in a super hot climate. Outfit in >>9947086 seems like it's just a jsk/salo over a sweater, anywhere I can get foresty main pieces like what she's wearing? Every "mori" shop these days seems to focus solely on layering and not on the individual pieces.

One of the last remaining japanese Mori kei stores is Favorite One on Rakuten (probably because they have a muddled aesthetic and don't 100% do morigirl)

https://www.rakuten.ne.jp/gold/favorite-one/

They have a section for onepieces, including a few fake layered dresses. July-August is a good time to look for lighter dresses since it's typically the hottest, most humid months for Japan, so you could stock up (or wait for end of summer sales and then stock up).

iirc, a lot of CPK was secondhand goods, like going through an American thrift store. If you want the "I just came from a cult-like Christian service in my strange Sunday best" you should probaby thrift a bit. Pic related is what the inside of Virgin Mary looks like.

If you're looking for more the dolly antique lacey look, I recommend grabbing some ivory pieces from Mori Girl related shops. Try shop33081244 on taobao for that.

I'll second HoshiCandy and CherryCheezy's shops. HoshiCandy's prints are actually huge. They're bigger then they appear in the mock-up. They're mostly known for menhera, but they've got some cute designs that have nothing to with menhera. Pastel and cute, but over the top with a bunch of all-over-prints.

Some Ttrinity links you may like. If you don't want to use SS, you can contact them directly to order internationally, but they only can take bank transfer if you do.

I swear by Milk quality, or at least these main pieces are pretty guaranteed to be nice. They have such a history and reputation in Japan and are about as old as AP.

As for your height and weight, you're about the same as me, so you should be fine! I'm a b cup, though, so maybe just double check bust sizes so nothing is too tight.
