I got called little bo peep wearing my sheep garden and when they went "where are your sheeps" i silently pointed at my print. They just said "oh" and left and i just chuckled.
I just try to take it lightly. Or simply ignoring (or whispering sassy responses if i am with friends)

I had a friend at a gas station when we stopped to fill up our car and grab snacks on our way to the next city for a big meetup, and some woman tried to heckle her by saying "bo peep wheres your sheep" so i jumped out from the next row over, weating Sheep Garden and said "right here" and the lady got embarassed and shut up and walked out from the gas station without buying anything.

If anything, i regret selling that dress because it in itself was an A+ comeback line just waiting to be utilized.

I've never had a bad experience in lolita other than people looking at me funny or snapping pictures without asking. Here's what usually happens to me:
>People thumbs up-ing through car windows
>Compliments from old people
>Getting asked if it's my birthday (this happens a lot) or what I'm dressed up for

Brief stories/incidents:
>Guy saying "I like your ducky" through a car window while I was wearing my chick-chan bag
>Waiter at restaurant telling me I should make an instagram
and weirdest incident:
>Was walking with bf when some really excited guy stops us
>Bf and I are wearing color coordinated pink and white outfits (he's just in normie clothes) and this guy is really into that
>Saying "that's so great" and how he "wishes my girl would do that with me"
>Keeps calling me "boss lady"
>Takes a picture with us so he can show his own girlfriend

>> No.9945504

>>9945442
I usually get old people saying how their nieces or kids would like what I was wearing and how precious it is. I had an old couple at an art museum ask for my picture in milky planet before, and after we left a lady out front for super excited about my outfit and insisted I "keep wearing whatever makes me happy because it looks great" it was a very pure experience.

The worst I had was at a concert and I went to get water at the bar, and as I went back to my place I was heckled by two shirtless dudes who were shorter than me in my platforms. They kept calling me "princess" and "your highness" and were generally aggressive. I threatened to dump water on them but the main act was starting and I didn't want to get kicked out of the house of blues over some stupid drunk men

I usually don't get bizarre reactions, they're so few and far between I actually can't remember them right now. But one of the stranger kind of comments that I get relate to my parasol.
>Is that an umbrella?
>Why are you using an umbrella?
>hurr durr is it raining?
It's strange because this country is very sunny and people do occasionally use actual umbrellas to protect themselves from the sun. Maybe I'm completely detached but I don't understand why it's weird when I do it; is it because my parasol matches my outfit? idgi

Same here. My country isn’t known for its hot weather but it can get really sunny in early summer to the point where news websites issue warnings to stay out of the sun, but the concept of a portable parasol is completely alien here. I’ve only ever seen Asian tourists use umbrellas or parasols in the sun. Whenever I carry my parasol, whether I’m wearing lolita or a regular sundress, at least one person will always yell at me that it’s not raining, always in either a mocking or downright aggressive tone. Badly sunburnt people with bright red necks and shoulders, completely incredulous at by the fact that someone would want to carry her own shade with her. I really don’t get it.

Not necessarily, alternative fashion still stands out and garners attention and gawking, even if it originated and you're wearing it in Japan. Even more so if you're wearing it in Japan, actually, and especially if you're not Japanese yourself.
You might be forgetting that Japanese culture in general is very homogeneous and standing out isn't exactly acceptable there, unless you're a teenager and it's the weekend, and even then your family and friends might criticize you for it. That goes double for you if you're gaijin and not Japanese yourself.

I saw my first ever lolita in the wild when I was a tween and unaware of what it was. She was head to toe in OTT sweet decora and alone. Any normal person would have stared but I'm even surprised at myself looking back that as a kid I had the either the manners or the social anxiety to tunnel vision past her. It was during my annual visits to a big city so I just packed it in with NYC having weird people.

If I, as a child, have the sensibility not to gawk and turn my whole head towards them with my mouth gaping open I don't understand why adults lack this self awareness. It's like seeing someone with too much cleavage, you can sneak a glance if you're so inclined but full-out staring/glaring is rude.

>Is this Japan? You'd think people wouldn't stare at people wearing street fashion
I hope you realise European people also stare at others wearing European street fashion? When you dress far out of the norm you'll get stared at, no matter if it's a somewhat common style in the area or not.
>since that's within the realm of 'acceptable' acting out for young people.
Nah, you're still considered weird. Again, it's the same in Europe. I know adults who wouldn't even allow their children to wear street/alternative fashion. If it would be Japan, it would most likely only be worse.

Also, as someone pointed out, there is German text. I'm guessing it's Asian businessman because the building looks like it and one wear a suit and the guy behind her a business blouse. Guy with brown bag also seems to wear a suit. But it might also be tourists, like >>9945909 said. Asian tourist often come, travel to touristic places, make photo's, go to the next place without entering. So you will always see either many Asians or none. Big shopping outlets can also be used to find tourists instead of touristic places, because you can't leave without buying your family back home a Versace bag in outlet discount as present.

>I can't help but wonder what they actually want.
If they're yelling at you from a distance they probably just have poor impulse control. Doesn't even matter what they yell or the context of the situation; I can't imagine yelling at a stranger just because they're dressed out of the norm.
If they stop you to ask what you're wearing then they're most likely just curious, or again have poor impulse control and never learned to have basic, common respect for people.
>Hey wait, I just HAVE to ask-
Do you? Do you really HAVE to? No you do not, and chances are whatever you're about to say or ask I've heard many times before.
Obviously it depends on the way they say it and how they approach you, I'm specifically talking about the obnoxious ones who clearly think you owe them your time and attention. These types are doubly annoying if they do it while I'm on the phone or otherwise preoccupied, even more so if they act offended when I point out to them that I'm busy. They see you as a performer, an attraction rather than a person, and they don't deserve a single damn second of your time.

>Why should I interrupt my day to go change?
You shouldn't. Unless you're in any real danger, there's nothing wrong with putting earphones in and pretending you can't hear them and are engrossed in your music, whether you're listening to some or not.

Is it weird to say that I really love how a lot of the creep shots look?

There's something about them that, to me, makes lolita feel more candid, like an actual fashion choice than this super staged thing people only do at meet ups and cons.

>> No.9948280

my nicest experience in lolita was when I was leaving the house in a redxblackxwhite tartan baby oldschool sweet coord and I heard a noise and it was my next door neighbour's little girl trying to get my attention by banging on the window, and when I noticed her she had this huge smile and was waving at me and it was so precious. kids reactions to what I'm wearing will forever be my favourite thing. how they have no filter and will say stuff aloud and their parents try to shush them.

I love candid pics for the same reasons. I get why it makes people uncomfortable and I wouldn't take them myself, but I like candids when I see them around.

I honestly don't mind if people take candids in public. It saves me being bothered every five minutes while I'm going about my business. If it was taken because they intend to make fun of me, oh well. Their loss I guess. I feel bad that they aren't secure with themselves.

It's never in these exact words, but from the sum total of all the comments from old ladies I've gotten, it's some undercurrent of "it's good to see girls taking care of every aspect of their appearance today instead of just throwing on a tshirt or showing a lot of skin" - sort of about modesty, but also sort of about effort. It's both sweet and sad, because it's never said with animosity or judgment, just kind of this wistful mental returning to their youth when they had to be "done up" on this level every day, whether they wanted to or not, and now seeing girls doing it because they WANT to.

I hate this. Not just for lolita, any fashion that is considered attention getting. Its not ok to call a woman a slut because she is wearing short shorts and a tank top, its not ok to call a lolita names and gawk. You are being rude. And "but youre not normal!" Is no excuse for being a rude person. Learn to avert your eyes and hold your tongue.

Fashion is made for people, not people made for fashion. You should wear whatever you want, and this fashion you decided to wear should be for you and not anyone else. Now obviously, this doesnt mean you should run around exposing your privates, there is clearly a line to be draw, but fashion being sexy, cute, super formal, ect is just what fashion is supposed to do. Depends where you're at. In say Shibuya I'd say it's about as common as Lolita, so you'd get about as many looks, but if you're in Kyoto or Osaka and going to any kind of Shrine or Historical location it's way more common. I'd say a good 30-40 percent of people are dressed up in Kimono or Yukata. Famous/touristy locations people go all out haha Kyoto station is my favorite place for looking for fashion because of all the people getting dressed up and going to Fushimi Inari, Arashiyama, and Kiyomizu dera

Somehow anon, you're just not understanding them.
There's a miscommunication over what the word terf means, but otherwise they're saying that feminists and everyone who plays the identity politics game need to calm the fuck down and stop polarizing the issue.
We were doing so well getting to a point where racism had less and less of a place in America, and now we're seeing a resurgence in direct response to the way liberal minded people are pushing things.
Silencing people, mob hate and turning every issue into 'if you're not xyz you don't matter' and generally being assholes about what should be intelligent debates is making us all more bigoted.

Sure, I can agree that people are breeding hate sometimes through identity/race politics. But hating feminists/non conforming people is just as bad. You can't beat hate with hate. I'm not american, but I do think you guys have big problems with that (fighting hate with hate, rather than understanding). I often see people on either side saying that they hate men, or they hate transgendered people. It's stupid to think hating someone will make them go away, it won't.
I'm not huge into the trans movement, I'm not straight but I'm very cis, proud to be female and whatnot. I do think there's a lot of shitty trans people (like the sissies in rufflechat, god), but for the most part, there's a lot of really good people who just want to be respected. You don't always have to agree with people, but you don't have to hate them just because of it. I don't understand what's with Americans and caring so much about other peoples beliefs. If a teenager wants to be called they and have blue hair, who fucking cares? If someone asks to be called she even if she's obviously not a she, you don't have to talk to them, it doesn't really matter what others do.
