I’m an AP fan and I’ve always thought I would get into Moitie at 40-years-old when I have good income job and want to get toned down. But now that new Moitie dresses are easy to get I feel like I should jump on the ship early but I can not justify 30 000 yens for dress that’s a less detailed than the dresses from AP or Baby. How can I get over my autism?

Just do it. See if you like the quality, the design, the fit, etc. Things are different when you actually hold the garment in your hands and wear it yourself.
Worst case scenario, if you decide it's not for you at least at this point in time, you'll be able to sell it off to someone else.

Realise that motie's fabric choices and cuts are superior in every way. I can only speak for old moitie though, I don't own anything newer (yet, let's see how the Cross OP rerelease will be).

AP and Baby hide a lot of shittiness under prints. That was something I noticed when I swapped styles. Gothic can't hide poor quality and bad tailoring the same way sweet covers everything up with bows and pictures so it forces gothic brands to be better.

But again you're just treating it as if it's sales alone. They do these releases for tea parties only so it's already a limited quantity. I'm sure if they did something similar here, girls at the Tea party would jump on it.

We have people here traveling from different states for the AP anniversary party. If they are willing to drop money on transport, hotel and the teaparty, they will drop on a special teaparty only release.

When Baby opened in NYC there was a raffle just for who gets to be the lucky person to drop 1k on a dress, that wasn't even a region exclusive. There are definitely people here who would buy it.

On a similar note though, just the quality and scale of tea parties fucking sucks here in the US. The Baby teaparties in NYC were inside the tiny store ffs. With what looks like paper cups and plates, for the same price of a legit teaparty. That is beyond weak.

It isn’t less detailed, it’s just done differently. A lot of AP focuses on the design of the print, and they reuse cuts and ideas. It isn’t like AP cannot focus on the dress, but the popular stuff most sweet Lolita’s like are very print oriented.

Moitie isn’t heavy on the prints, and it’s more about the overall design and simplicity of the look. Their fabric quality is good, their lace is custom and the cuts they come out with are supposed to be sleek. There is a reason why there is die hard Moitie fans out there, and why besides skirts (which are not popular in any style) Moitie retains value the best.

Don’t force yourself to buy something just because you can, but if you like what they are releasing now, try one out. Some detail cannot be expressed over words.

This. The construction of a dress and the quality of the fabric aren't things that are as obvious to tell from pictures as stuff like bows and prints. That's why dresses by brands like Moitie and Victorian Maiden might look plain or not worth their price to some, especially when compared to the overload of decoration brands like AP put on their items. Only when I got my first VM main pieces did I understand the difference a solidly constructed piece makes. I think those brands just focus more on having a good foundation and being minimal in extra design features, whereas the main sweet brands tend to go for a mid-tier (for a Japanese lolita brand, overall it's still great) construction and more over the top added decoration.
Whether you like one over the other is a matter of taste and preference. It's not like one is straight up better than the other.

Don't force yourself to wear Moitie if you don't love it. I remember seeing their stuff in person and although it was really nice it just didn't jump out at me or excite me enough to spend those prices. The first time I walked into a BTSSB store was a completely different story. That doesn't mean moitie is boring or AP/Baby hide behind prints, it just means that the brands have different selling points that appeal to different people. If you're just not a Moitie person don't force yourself to be just because it's accessible right now. It's not like they're the only gothic brand ever to exist.

Hello everyone I'm Kimmi desu ~ so I've been wondering.. do Lolitas hate sexual stuff related to Lolita because it's just so hard to have sex in Lolita? I was trying with my boyfriend, and I had so many layers on it was so difficult! And I don't wanna wear a cage skirt because that's BDSM and I'm not into that. As a conservative Texan girl, I don't want boys to see up my skirt so easily. Do you guys have any recommendations on making Lolita sex easier? I came to CGL because I don't want my local community to know my sexual struggles, as I know sex is poorly regarded when in Lolita. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions? Much appreciated!

I honestly don't even know what AP are doing anymore with their manufacturing. I haven't really been into their designs enough to buy anything for over a year now so I wouldn't know. All I know is they're not the same as they used to be a couple years back. Last thing I got from them was a dress made in China, and some cutsews made in Japan, all from late 2016-early 2017.

I'm guessing people just lump Baby in with them because it's popular right now to shit on sweet? Baby still produces a lot of stuff in Japan,as do Alice and the Pirates. Maybe the quality isn't up to every moitiefag's standards, but every now and then I see a few anons making it out like Baby is putting out cheap sweatshop dirt when it's just not true. Another AP fag here with a question for the Moitiefags -- someone tell me about the pockets?

Actually I do all the substyles but I definitely gravitate towards half-shirred AP because pockets. It's weird, I know, I'm even modding my IW to have pockets (IW would be my fav brand if not for the boobloaf and pockets). Moitie pockets confuse me, two skirts have pockets, two chiffon dresses do not, one half-velvet dress does not either, and neither does the half-velvet-half-floral dress either. Hoping some rather more hardcore Moitie fans can shed some light on this, I'd love more Moitie but it seems like the two skirts were just a fluke?

The cutsew dresses distort when you put heavy things in the pockets, but the dresses in general seem fine. Super poofy pettis seems to do the trick for keeping the skirt fluffy all the same. Or maybe my handphone/wallet just isn't as heavy, idk.

Sometimes I try to read Japanese websites and I noticed that coords like pic related are called casual lolita there. But Western lolitas don't call it that, I wonder why? Just a simple dress with only 1 petticoat instead of 3. Though I think this way of doing casual lolita is only acceptable if you also wear ''real'' lolita, and I wouldn't wear it to a meet.

My comm is quite OTT so I think it would be nice to embrace casual lolita more so newbies can see that OTT is not the only way to wear it, you can wear it when you're lazy at home or just going about your day normally. Of course, you can also wear OTT lolita when you're just having a normal day, but sometimes I see people complain that lolita is too uncomfortable or inconvenient, and I just think it doesn't have to be that way.

Sorry for blog post.
TLDR why is pic related not considered casual lolita in the West?

>> No.9922009

>>9922005
Because in the beginning of the fashion gaining popularity in the West, the distinction was made between lolita and Otome, though that isn’t considered a thing in japan. I think it stemmed from brands like Emily Temple Cute and Milk not calling themselves lolita brands and not being featured in GLBs very often, so it was considered that all brands siniliar to ETC and Milk must not make lolita clothes but instead a different style.

I think the bustle skirt is great and I actually own the shorter version from 2015. But then they made the waist of this release 65cm, smaller than back then (66cm)? I don't understand why they would do this when even Japanese lolitas had some trouble fitting into the previous release.

Gotta agree with the cuts though. Maybe I just have shit taste, but I like Lazy Afternoon and was prepared to throw money at them before they just went ahead and let me down with their cuts and design choices.

Definitely recommended!
Just pay attention to the size listed, not all parasols are the same size and the smaller ones aren't so comfortable to use if you're actually looking for sun protection. nayrt, but it's counterintuitive in more ways than one. Why chose a username and then never use it? If a site allows choosing a username I'd assume they were going to use it to display for everything, if they just needed an identifier for signing in and were using real names then just make people sign in with their email instead of having to remember some made-up name they only ever use to sign in and then has no other use.

As for facebook, the lack of privacy and the way they're just asking for more and more personal data on you is exactly their biggest negative right now. Out of everything else, I don't think this is something you should be trying to emulate. At the very least, offering a platform where people can be private is a good selling point to draw people away from facebook.

Baby has had quality problems too, although less extreme than BTSSB. They also have some dresses made in China, later even cheaper countries.

Again problems are less extreme than AP, but they still have had multiple quality issues hidden between OTT dress designs and busy prints.

It's also that some people still act like JPN brand is superior in quality, and often take AP and BTSSB as example. But compared to many Japanese indie brand, they are lower in quality for the same price, and many TaoBao are as good as BTSSB and AP. It's kinda an extreme reaction on another extreme claim. Both are often exaggerated versions.

Also, popular brands will be named more often in both positive and negative light. So you'll get more hate, but also more love.

Try reading these two Japanese blogposts. It really depends who you ask. With these rules, it would be "ita lolita" unless they count it as "unless you make it look good" which is often the exception on these things making you ita.

Basically it's considered lolita, because it's considered by the writer as that. Some Japanese will say it's "ita lolita" (and some might take pride in wearing "ita lolita" and think fuck it I wear what I want), others will think it's totally cute and cool.

Anyways, as long as we allow Bodyline and don't call you an ita for wearing IW Rosen Maiden sets or not having a winter coat, I don't think Westeners are that tight on rules compared to Japanese. Beside, I honestly think that even within the rules there is a lot of freedom.

Also, words as casual lolita, daily lolita, etc. are words with no real meaning. it's basically just "an outfit I wear on a random day without an event". What is daily wearble depends on who you ask, just as how far you can go with casualising it while keeping it lolita.

Which ones? Genuine question, not trying to be snarky. I agree that Baby in particular has been kind of disappointing quality and construction-wise compared to some of the other Japanese brands at the same price point, but they’re still head and shoulders above all the pieces I’ve bought from Taobao brands. One thing I’ve always loved about Baby in particular is their (non-chiffon) fabrics and their lace, both of which I’ve been disappointed in with Taobao brands like Dear Celine and SurfaceSpell. Baby’s construction is also better but by a smaller margin.

If it was just the lace I could probably deal with it but getting a dress made of cheaply surface-printed flimsy fabric that is obviously not going to age well is such a shitty feeling, and I’ve had buyers remorse pretty much every time I ordered from Taobao. If there are Chinese brands out there truly on par with Baby and AP I’d really love to know about them.

There wasn't a definitive answer everyone could be pleased with.

Casual is just what a person considers casual.

none of this matters in Lolita though? either you look good or you don't, who cares about the other stuff. Its obviously easier for people with feminine features but otherwise who cares. Clicking a m/f radio button shouldn't be a big deal good grief

>> No.9924091

The ones who use it as a general term started wearing lolita later, are using it as an excuse for a coord they don't feel confident about, or just want to use as many tags as possible

Which Surface Spell dresses did you try? Ichigo (Surface Spell Classic, only pre-order generally) ones are nice, Chasca (Surface Spell Gothic) I have yet to recieve. I heared she good paterns, but I'm not always sure about her fabrics choosen. Ichigo ones are quite limited tho, and people even buy them just to sell in a bundle with stuff they can't get rid of because they are wanted.

Wolfy (Amastacia) has nice quality as well.

Generally, you want brands there where around before lolita got popular in China. Many new brands are only busy with nice prints and not quality, and/or use it as fast fashion.

>> No.9924094

>>9924062
Also, I wear gothic so I don't pay too much attention to sweet and classic brands unless they have black colourways, so excuse my lack of examples from them.

Amastacia pattern isn't perfect, but it's quite decent.

Wasn't surface spell a cosplay shop before lolita got popular?

>> No.9924098

No. Actually, the Japanese use it as general term and people in the west took it over and suddenly decided it was a substyle with rules, but as they decided this somehow, the "rules" wheren't clear or the same for everyone, because there originally where none when the Japanese used this term firstly and still use it as general term for casually worn lolita.

>> No.9924099

No not really. Chasca and Ichigo where into lolita and historical European clothes already. They also make historical inspired gowns and gothic dresses tho, not only lolita.

>> No.9924103

When I started out with lolita, shiro, kuro, pinku and ao lolita were listed as separate substyles on English sites. The Western comm has always been weirdly obsessed with labelling everything and making up strict rules for things.

>>9924098
I agree with this. Casual lolita is lolita worn casually, no matter if someone is wearing a skirt and cutsew or a jsk and cardigan or an OP.

>> No.9924105

>>9924102
But western comm keeps using Japanese terms in translations, then get's mad at it's use, or others get confused.

When the Japanese make a term, and a few Westerners suddenly decide it has rules without others agreeing, it doesn't become a substyle with rules. That's just not how things work. Else I could now grab a general term and make rules, and get mad at everyone who uses it differently. At least the majority of the Western comm would have to agree to the same rules. That never happened. That's why it has no real rules or meaning.

>>9924103
I agree. I can't see shiro or kuro as styles, they are colourschemes. It literally comes from white and black. Things like sailor and pirate lolita same. It's a theme, not a fucking style.

>> No.9924106

>>9924105
Little side note. I do think words can change between international communities. Similarly how hentai just means pervert, but western people use it for Japanese animated porn. The big thing is that everyone has to agree what the meaning/rule is. Casual lolita never had a clear meaning or rule that was universally understood in Western comm in general. Just a few people dictating what they think it should be, and getting mad at people who don't agree.

It is tho? Sweet is defined by many things. It can have many themes, many colours, many shapes.

Pirate is always about a pirate outfit, and can be done in sweet as well as in gothic as well as classic style. It's a theme. Just like sailor.

That's like saying "LOTR themed outfit" is a substyle. And "MLP themed outfit" is a substyle. Oh and galaxy theme is now a substyle. And those Usakumya drawings? Yeah, mascot lolita is defiantly a substyle!

Gothic, Classic, Sweet, and anything that could be traced to not be based upon those 3. For example, if you use traditional clothes as inspiration like hanfu or kimono, I do consider that different as classic is very heavenly European historic influenced.

Also, which Japanese do? Because I only have sources on Japanese naming those 3 as styles. Otherwise, I only her them describe an outfit itself in a sentence long, using style more general as "it is styled in a way inspired by this" instead of "this is a substyle of a fashion". In fact there are video's about lolita talking about the 3 main lolita styles "Sweet, classic and gothic".

>>9924147
Gothic coord with a main piece made by a primary sweet brand =/= sweet lolita. Some items can change style depending on coord.

One of the video's mentioned above Misako shows this by changing items in a coord changing it between sweet and classic, explaining how a main piece can be used in multiple styles.

>>9924151

>When you style your coord a certain way doesn't that mean it's that substyle?
Not really. Lolita to become a substyle, it kinda has to be loose from other styles. It defines a part of fashion on it's own like a style (like lolita) does. There are more than one thing that makes it a style. Sweet can be pink pastel stuff. Sweet can also be more toned down and not have pastels at all.

Themes are just that. A theme you make a dress around. It doesn't create an entire new part of the fashion or define it (which a substyle does).

Misako also said there where 3 styles, classic, gothic and sweet lol. Misako is fucking inconsistent. Beside literal visible things to show (this looks like this when mixed with that), and looking cute, she's not the most relaibale source, nor does she define things.

>Misako said so
>Have no other sources that I can proof
>Misako also unsaid so
>so it's true even when Japans blogs, videos and magazines talk about 3 styles.
I had hoped on beter sources to be honest. I don't mind being proven wrong, but it has to actually come over as if your sources are relaible. Not changing my mind for this when I can read Japanese myself and found the opposite of your argument.

I only said Misako showed a coord, changed items for different ones keeping only main piece to make it another style. It's a visible thing anyone could see and I never seen argue about. Not a "OMG Misako said so so it must be true".

Just because I refer to one video in which Misako is the one moving items doesn't make her my whole argument. The Japanese blogs and articles I read are still against you, as well as other non-Misako video's.

I do think you can tell from pictures; VM really caught my eye even before I got into lolita because it was so clear to see how well the pieces were constructed, compared to AP. Most of the new AP and BTSSB stuff looks fucking amateurish in comparison.
