The thing I still don't get is how, after all this time, people still try to justify this as a love story. The author made it really clear, on so many levels, that this book was meant to be an exploration into the mind of a monster. It's suppose to be entertaining in that you get to hear the villain's version of events and how they perceive themselves, instead of seeing the villain through the hero's perspective. Yet I keep running into these nut cases who not only think Lolita fashion is directly tied to the book but that also the story is so hot and subversive desu~

The book is beautifully written, on a technical level. The word choice and sentences flow together so well that it give it a romantic feel. This is a deliberate writing choice so that it clashes even more with the gross content of the story. There are readers that don't pick up on that, and fall for the romantic writing without realizing it's meant to foil the story's contents. There's also a pretty big case of "unreliable narrator" because you're hearing a grown man justify fucking a little kid, of course the narrator is going to frame it as something beautiful and consensual. It's cleverly written, but it's definitely a book that as you read, you have to keep a sharp mind against the tricks of both the author and narrator. Sage for OT sorry

Western media has been shilling the "she totally came on to me! It's not my fault!" line for so long that it's now completely believable that a 14-year-old child (with no history of sexual trauma) coming on to an older dude seems like a completely normalised sex fantasy rather than the glaring red flag it should have been.

Switch the gender out so the guys can relate to themselves being 14 and wanting some older dude's dick and the situation is suddenly much clearer. I'm actually surprised no feminine activist has ever tried this, a lot of shit becomes clearer once the genders are swapped.
