>Last time I attempted it during AX one year, I ended up sweating around my face and it made the paint lighter where it got wet. I don't think there's any getting around that, but I'd thought I'd ask anyway.

Start by switching from water based paint to grease based paint. I don't know what "summer heat" is to you, but I've had no problems up to 25-28 C. Key is to use final seal underneath AND on top, as well as having powder handy for when you sweat through it. Oh, and skip the paint for neck/hands/arms and stick to PAX or armsocks.

Homestuck is in this weird no-man's land where it logically should have more in common with western comics, but most people who got into it seems to have done so from anime and through the few things Homestuck has in common with that. I think it has to do with the fact that anime was/is still seen as kind of weird and niche, making Homestuck (which is excessively weird and niche) less of a threshold to get into.

Colossal had a fairly sizeable turnout this weekend (Friday about 35, Saturday about 100), and while the draw meet was pretty quiet and small compared to previous years, i think the con having the waterpark open super late took a lot of attendance away from the usual crowd. I definitely feel that there is sort of a weird range for what constitutes career oriented adults who appear to be manchildren trying to ride out being young as long as possible, but as long as it doesn't seem like they are trying to youthful about it (like cosplaying teenagers, indeed homestuck would be a terrible choice) it could work.

What exactly changes, if people look no different when theyre 25 from when theyre 30? People are still out there enjoying fandom, writings your fanfics and making tutorials. So why would it be an issue for someone 30+ to be cosplaying unless the person's personality was the actual issue? There are plenty of teenagers that make me super uncomfortable at meets because they're acting like idiots, the same goes for someone who's older. Creepers will be creepers- you're going to fucking comiccon, there's bound to be dozens of them.

If you're 30+ and out there looking cuter than the 18 year olds cosplaying homestuck characters, then fucking props dude. Who cares, have fun and look good doing it. Get nice photos while you're at it, since the teenagers don't have real jobs and thus, can't afford that shit?

400+ people at a photoshoot. Barstuck was hoppin. New friends every con, draw parties where there were more than a handful of artists. My first Katsu we filled the hallway, everyone spread their prints and stickers out in front of them and you walked by, chitchatted, and took home handfuls of work from artists you admired online. There was something for everyone- heartwarming stories, or juicy drama. I miss the good times, but i'm glad the irl drama is minimal now, even if it took the death of most area based communities to get rid of it.

Katsucon 2013 was the peak of homestuck for me, it was a small golden moment were everyone felt like they were doing things out of good will. People were passing around and trading artwork, valentines, and candy out of a wanting to share with other people who liked their fandom, the panel was interesting, and some guy was reading out sweet bro and hella jeff dressed as hussie at the draw meet. Then there was the meet ups between cons. Every state on the east coast had at least one group and a lot of events had at least 50 or so people, some coming from hours away. Multiple photographers would come, some would bring tables for food and drinks, one time there was even a portable gas stove. My biggest regrets was never getting to go to the really big nycstuck meetups like promstuck when people were even holding prom campaigns.

"Prom" is a common fandom concept with close ties to "high school" AUs. IIRC, one of the earliest popular pieces of fan media using the "Promstuck" name was a spinoff from Marchingstuck (a marching band + high school AU).
>was in high school marching band
>actually enjoyed marchingstuck

"Promstuck" also fit for many HS fan communities because the members tended to be young-adult- or high-school-aged, so prom would have been a familiar concept.
And of course, it gave people the outlet to get more mileage out of their cosplay wigs/makeup in different outfits.

>> No.9941100

>>9940943
There wasn't really all that much 'degenerate' behaviour desu? We had promstuck and homestuck homecoming in Toronto, and it was just us hanging out and listening to music together. Having formal wear, potluck dinner, and some dancing. The most promstuck related drama we ever had was the year some young kids tried to run it but then found out they needed an adult to sign the rental for the location and had to cancel. Or, i guess Fanworld- but promstuck went well, it was the drama leading up to it + the con organizers themselves that were the drama.

The AUs were mostly tumblr based, and there were comics drawn for it that were well done and entertaining. Not even cringe worthy or anything? Though i've not read them recently, i was still early 20s when i read them and not a fan of Highschool AUs, but they were well done.

For what it's worth the quadrant thing which is mainly a thing among teenagers seems more like a way to understand and legitimise relationships they have a hard time finding terminology for in popular culture, than "Oh yes I want someone to hate romantically". Not to say it can't be dysfunctional - these types of relationships often are - but rather that they always existed and kids are just finding new terminology to try and make sense of it. yeah sorry about leaving the draw meet super quick ): we were pretty exhausted from being in AA all day and still had loads more to do. Pretty much everyone knows everyone, and while we're def open to new friends, we've all been in the same crews for 3+ years so when a couple of us are tired, the group tends to follow.

We did have a terribly sad turnout this year, though. Torontostuck has stuck around so long, i'm pretty upset to see it dwindling. They're such well behaved kids most of the time, even the very young ones just starting cosplaying.

Metrocon in tampa still shocked me with how enthusastic the homestucks are there again this year. 3+ panels and a promstuck? like, props to those nerds for that kind of energy. Drawmeet on the saturday night had a nice turnout too.

any wig recs for latula? i’ve got a jareth from arda on backorder but i’m worried it won’t restock before the end of the month. helios from epiccosplay is also out of stock and won’t restock until 3 days before the con. i’m considering the plus ultra power nap from five wits but as you can see, it has brown undertones and is a little too short

Well, her hair is straight but shaggy, which really isn't a difficult style, so I would prioritize a true black wig at the right length (or even a bit longer). You can pretty easily straighten and cut it yourself. For something that basic, an Arda is way overpriced, and I'd go with something from Epiccosplay or Wigisfashion. Theia from Epiccosplay could also work, but would need some more cutting, but you'd likely have to put some work in anyway.

I still love this photo, I think it's a very good example of how a photo can elevate a costume. Especially for the Guardians, that seems like an opportunity to take, seeing as how they're presented in the comic. Like, obviously they're not actually faceless so the zentai suits never really look great; >>9971803 is one of the few ones where they actually look like, say, manequin people, and not zentai blobs, mostly thanks to the fact that they both have proper noses whereas most zentai faces look completely squished.
I much prefer stuff like this, because no matter how well constructed, a Dad cosplay just isn't gonna be that impressive, so it's really all about the character you can convey.

Also, Bro especially is always going to look kind of weird if you're thin, short, and squishy. The same basically goes for Dad; if you don't look like you've ever actually used a razor on your face in your life, you're fighting an uphill battle. Mom and Grandpa are abit more complex in design, so it's easier to hide it with the right wigs and make up.

This is from a NSFW (though non-explicit, for whatever that's worth) which imo basically only works (for what it is) because of the physical contrast between the Bro and Dave.

There was a similar photo that showed up a while ago with a Bro I liked who had some actual thigh-hair, but I couldn't find that.

Some ways to make your Bro look older even if you're baby faced or soft and squishy or short is to work with proportions. Smaller or more narrow shades, for example, will contrast from the Dirks in the crowd. A thinner wig will look more realistic and thus older, especially if you're wearing a hat. If you can't play up the physical attributes of "grown ass man who's absurdly fit and kinda creepy" then it's like I mentioned above; work with your photographer to capture the character.

There have been so many good characters coming from Friendsim- not always good in morals or for cosplay purposes, but as characters themselves. I really hope we get to see a few decent cosplays of each character turn up. Theres just something nice about a simple design being pulled off cleanly still.
