Old thread hit bump limit >>9715254

This thread is for ouji and aristocrat (aka "boystyle") discussion. "Boystyle" is shorthand for "boystyle lolita" and refers to the masculine counterparts of lolita and, often, aristocrat fashions. There is a lot of overlap between these styles, and different people use different terms to describe them. So, consider this a thread for those whose style is on the right half of Buttcape's Lolita Family Triangle: http://www.kawacura.com/moripress/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/0dmmLH6-350x350.jpg

Hey, newfag anon reporting back in after browsing the sites you suggested. I'm thinking I should start with some aristo stuff. What do you think of these?

Fellow newfag here. Please, someone, tell me if I'm way off base with what I'm saying.

At 6'3 you probably have enough testo that you won't look good in more crossy styles without it being outright fetishy. Some people are into that, but that's likely not your goal. Aristo would probably be a good call.

I have two concerns with these picks. The first and most pressing is fit. These are cut for women. They both have v-cuts, which is fine, but I would still worry that they, even if tailored, would bulge at the chest or otherwise fit to accommodate breasts. I have no idea what the quality of tailoring, customer service and fabric is. Someone with more experience definitely needs to chime in.

The second is that they're both black. I feel like black is comes off as an edgy copout, and somehow also boring. I am a bit locked into a corner with my current, non-EGL wardrobe by basing it heavily on black. You can obviously make your mind up on your own with this, but definitely plan ahead and consider the whole of the look you're building.

>> No.9892344 [DELETED]

>>9892339
Black is what I'm going for, I'm a Mana worshipper. I think I could actually do slightly androgynous looks without seeming weird. I have testosterone, sure, but I'm not muscular, and I have a bit of a young face. One of those picks is a little dress-like and I'm sure I could even pull that off, given it fit me properly. I'm not going to rush to get anything until I can know it will fit me properly. I could probably even stand to start jogging again and lose a few pounds before I look at measurements.
Anyway, thank you very much for your thoughtful response.

nayrt. Just jumping in to clarify a few things.

F+F does custom sizing. Just let them know you're a dude and they'll know to cut them for straight chests and not boobs.

Height's not a deterrent, aristo looks good on taller dudes. I'd start worrying about the silhoutte if you're wide. Being tall is good.

Sorry no actual advice on the two coats, I'm a lolita usually. I personally think going with black is a good choice, you can add other colours to make them pop. They don't work well with some particular colours -- "natural" colours like brown, tan, khaki, etc, and darker colours like dark brown or navy usually needs a bit of extra work to make it look good.. idk, half my wardrobe is black, but I guess as a lolita it's a bit different than an ouji?

>> No.9892470

>>9892331
those look great. like >>9892393 said, you can ask about making the second one a mens cut. the fuller skirt of the coat is going to feel and look hella awesome while you swish around.

black is a good color to start with and you can wear it a variety of places. most ouji available for bigger people has black colorways anyway. you can dress it up with accessories such as neckwear, corsages, etc., for pops of color. even a different colored blouse makes a big difference from coord to coord

this is some weird /fit/izen thinking. you know many high fashion models are chosen for being pretty and tall, right? even male models. so this is a strange mental jump to take.

Ah, I went off it being in the womens category. I guess I myself need to take a look through the womens section, haha.

He is, statistically, either white or black at 6'3. I rarely see femininity done well, and when it is, it's often an asian doing it. Some people love seeing masculine men in femmy clothing perhaps because of the contrast, but none the less, that contrast is there and most people think it is strange, hence the comment about it being fetishy. There's no judgement there, just a statement that "this is how it is percieved".

He's asking how to play his cards, and I'm making reasonable assumptions about what cards he has been dealt and giving advice from there. Maybe he's ahead of the bell curve though, you're not wrong. In the end, he's the one who decides what to do.

>>9892393
Yes, aristo will look good on tall men. Coats tend to require it, speaking in terms of general fashion. I'm talking about specifically femmy styled coords.

Women have a fair bit more freedom with colors, that's why black can feel like it boxes you in, that's all. Plus, you still have to match blacks. Nothing sucks more than getting different shades and not being able to combine them.

any masculine person in Western society will be seen as weird for wearing anything elaborate. it is more difficult for bigger men to pull off frilliness, but remember: the very name of "lolita fashion" is mistaken for fetish, sweet and gothic are often mistaken for being fetishistic no matter who wears it, and so on. i think, as long as you do not live somewhere you are likely be assaulted for dressing strangely, wear what you like.

if you are insecure, take small steps. look into what modern dandies are doing and incorporate that kind of male beauty into your weeb fashion.

also, for the black oujis from last thread, check out Ike Ude'd fashion photography. a lot of awesome looks to use as inspo, just needing some small weebification.

With a coat like this all you need to make a great coord is nice dress shoes and trousers, a basic button up shirt and nice neckwear and accessories, for example a cravat with a brooch and some rings. Style your hair, eventual facial hair nicely and you're done.

I'm a humanities student, pic related is how I dress on the daily at uni during the warm seasons and so far have only gotten positive response. Simple and sleek EGA is just pretentious poet clothes anyway so not that much of a problem to fit in imo? Several of my wardrobe pieces are vintage/antique and anyone over the age of 60 remembers when breeches were common men's clothing. When I go basic I wear all black otks, black breeches, MmM shirt, MmM tie and a simple vintage waistcoat or a black jumper. I part-time work as a type of controller in the metro, for which I wear black jeans and a MmM cutsew (buttcape fittingly calls this type of styling Elegant Gothic Whatever).

1. make it fit Japanese street fashion aesthetic.

2. make it follow lolita+ouji rules concerning color coordination, hair and facial presentation, etc.

i will post some military coords that fall within ouji in my estimation. it depends if you want to be closer to sweet (cartoonish, playful, youthful, or anime-like), classic (historical-inspired, elegant, close to "normal", or naturalistic), or gothic (edgy, fantastical in an un-cute sense). whatever of the main 3 styles you may be closer to, ouji, like lolita, will still have the fanciful aspect to it that helps separate it from being just vintage or vintage-inspired fashion.

Make sure that you can tailor it to sit right on your body and that you choose quality materials. Use a ton of references for the look you want to go for and start with something easy, then work yourself up. Good fitting and nice materials usually covers up B-rated sewing. check out Ike Ude's work, especially his Sartorial Anarchy series. >>9892537 is one example, and a couple more were posted to the Macarouji thread. i do not know how dark your bf is, but Ude's use of makeup and color in his expression of historic-inspired dandyesque looks may be cool to browse.

if he is too big for brand, Fan+Friend should have a lot of things to his taste. for the Steampunk/Bloodborne look, within the scope of brand, look more to brands like Ozz Oneste, h. Naoto, and other punkish brands as opposed to the usual lolita+ouji ones (AatP, Miho Matsuda, etc.). Atelier Boz may also have some good pieces, and alice auaa's mens stuff runs larger than most other Japanese brands while having that sort of elegant disaster Bloodborne aesthetic to it at times. i cannot think of any Taoabo brand that could have that look.

here is an Ozz On ouji coord, to give you an idea. they have a very RPG flavor to their idea of ouji and use more daily-wear fabrics.

Consider getting him hooked up with a basic fit and steer him away from "steampunk" accessories. As someone with just a basic understanding of mechanical engineering, the designs trigger me. Steer him more towards that palette (browns, beige and reds?) and see if he gets an idea for quality. A lot of "steampunk" marketed stuff seems very cheap. Steer him away from leather as well, so he doesn't end up with cheap genuine. A boring base is easier to build from compared to replacing cheaper pieces.

I also had a couple of guys asking me where I buy my men's sized boystyle clothes and they were suprised when I mentioned that it's often through digging through lolita racks at local events since usually men's and women's clothing aren't on the same racks.

I’m sure I’m going to sound like newblet, I’m strictly lolita so please bare with me. My fiancé is wanting to start attending tea parties with me (just big ones, like at cons) due to an unfortunate incident that happened, I told him he should dress the part with me and he agreed but I’m honestly at a loss... I really know nothing much about aristo/ouji.

I’m terrified of buying him a nice set if it doesn’t fit and I’m clueless when it comes to sizing for menswear. He’s quite slim and not too tall, average height I guess. Do these run as small as dresses do at times? And what about brands; is it better option to get secondhand brand or go with some indie designers? Thank you so much for any help, I’m sorry once again for being so terribly ignorant!

I'm the original poster. I can't hold someones hand, I can only suggest improvements. What do you want me to say - take a seam ripper to it? Buy *this* piece?

A lot of work goes into composing a coord, I can't just be expected to do that. The boots and the shoulders seem like they were meant to match, maybe even the wraps on the right leg. Do you want me to compose a coord with a different coat, maybe even different pants and at that point, different boots? Again, handholding. Sometimes things don't work out as well as you want to. You can accept it or live in denial. Either way you can still wear it and enjoy wearing it.

Your original comment was bitter, and your current one is too. I've already given you well more respect than you deserve. Posting bad inspo and then defending it is just ridiculous.

Closet Child has Milk Boy pants with an ouji flair, but pic related is claimed to have a 20 inch waist. i think this is an error since the ones in blue are 29 inches and the other pants are 30 inches. this is a bit bigger than many ouji brands so maybe you will find it useful

Secondhand. I'd say that there is a lot more thought going into piecing than with just buying fabric from the store. It's the same as with any re-used fabric since it's already been cut into pieces once and you have to get those pieces to work into the shape you want them to have in the new garment.
