I mostly wear simple sweet myself, but I've been collecting some lovely military and school uniform themed pieces. They are great for dressing up but daily wear, as well, as they suit the general "preppy" look

Military lolita can also be very functional in the cold weather or rough terrain

Not quite. The majority of my wardrobe is IW, both old and new, and while IWW is wonderful for the price it's not as good as regular IW. It's still recommended, just don't expect the same quality.

I’ll admit, I was just looking at the cross at the armband, I didn’t even bother with the hat. That is some pretty obvious nazi party stuff. I guess that brings a new point though. What is your opinion on wearing specific iconography? Controversial stuff like hammer and sickle, nazi, etc, as well as the whole stolen valor thing. Let’s try to keep it civil but I want to see your opinions.

Personally I think it’s tasteless to include things like the death skull or the swastika which are blatantly and mostly exclusively nazi in the military context, but the early emblem (although this one from what I can see is still the nazi one) and the cross can have a number of meanings. There’s also the line of imagery in itself, like the red armband (which is also a part of Japanese patriotic culture)

I'm with you here. I think the Iron Cross is fine. I associate it with WWI and prior wars in Prussia's history, and at the time being militaristic and patriotic was part of their cultural identity. Modern Germany has tried to erase that identity. There's nothing wrong with being interested in history.
I guess it comes down to our perception of every war before WWII being good/fair (even though it no doubt was hell for those fighting it) rather than evil. WWI is not highly controversial or hijacked by nut-jobs. There are no Somme deniers. Wearing a symbol from a fight between royal cousins or a scramble for Alsace-Lorraine is more socially acceptable than something used during monstrous acts like the Holocaust.
Yes, some Neo-Nazis use the Iron Cross, but their hard-on is for the swastika as that's what they're really about.
Maybe it should be: Wear at your own risk when there's a rally in town. Wear as you like when there isn't.

Stolen valor applies only to military personnel. It is a military law and as such does NOT apply to civilians. If you are not a member of the armed forces, you can legally wear whatever you like.

The only "line" you might be perceived as crossing is the potential impersonation of a military officer or law enforcement official, which - provided you are not walking around claiming to be a colonel or some such and that people need to do as you say - is not something they can easily accuse you of.

Yeah I personally wear replicas of pre ww1 medals and such, mostly because it’s my favorite military history, but it might be a bit tetchy to wear something silly like two medals of honor or very special insignia.

From my experience, stolen valor means impersonating a member of the armed forces when you are either not a current or former member or, not having attained a certain honor. Some people might get pissy if you slap some vietnam patches on a hat or something but I think for style it isn’t hurting anyone
