I think the poster has a problem with people who suffer from self delusion. Spending a lot of time and effort assembling a nice set, making sure it is all perfect, then ignoring the fundamental effect their own appearance has on the final product.

Also, morbid obesity is a well understood and serious health problem that severely compromises daily life and life expectancy. I quickly made this but it might be a bit off. It's just my observations. I think because, unlike lolita, the "rules" of what qualifies as fairy kei is really unclear here. A lot of people incorrectly call a style fairy kei as a tag, because people won't correct them like in lolita. A lot of the time, in the west, the lines between cult party kei, larme kei, decora, and fairy kei are blurred. I think another factor is that fairy kei is based on vintage clothing, and here in the west, a lot of vintage clothing looks really different, but a lot of people call it fairy kei since it's pastel.
There's a lot more sweater use here, and less layers. also a lot of western brands that call themselves "fairy kei" further seperate us, since the brands in japan (like milklim or nile perch) look wildly different from indie brands here. I think american fairy kei is also far more over the top, since most people only wear it to go to conventions and also, i think americans see a lot of jfashion as over the top instantly even if it's not. So when americans wear fairy kei, they wear tons of accessories and edgy stuff.I don't know, I may be wrong, but that's what i've observed.

But there's a large amount of trans identifying people who are vocal online. perhaps i should make that distinction. The only other fairy kei person i've met is a dude, actually.

Spank! Used to sale these kind of sweater for a short while. Which, as soon as the west noticed that, resulted in the explosion we have now, because we used to have easier access to these sweater than Japanese people do.

It was also around the time the Candy Cotton sweaters were super popular. So some people saw it as a thriftstore alternative for that one.

It's pretty ironic if you think about it.

It's the girl behind her, solely because I can barely see her. I know it's bad though, that fucking nose bandaid is the sign of a basic bitch. The girl in the front looks like she took everything popular on tumblr in 2015 and mashed it together, there's no soul there. Everyone in the west is obsessed with yami kawaii and a lot of Japan snaps I see aren't very pastel anymore. And people in the west who are into fairy kei butcher it with hot topic skirts and made to order printed on clothing with ms paint designs. Hoping to find some new inspiration instead of looking at old street snaps.

This is true. Fairy kei is supposed to be light, airy, pastel, feminine, and cute. Sometimes there are small details that make an outfit pop (pins, cute bow, stuffed animal, eye catching purse, etc.) but it is very blended overall and soft. It does stand out, but in a reserved way, not in a "I threw everything I own on the floor, rolled around, and here is my outfit for the day" kind of way.

Most things that are advertised as fairy kei in the west are not. They are decora. Graphic tees, large busy/cluttered prints, multiple hairclips (wtf that is straight up decora), clashing colors, and too many accessories are not fairy kei. Cluttery brands like listen flavor, galaxxxy, kawaiigoods, and similar brands are not fairy kei, yet people cling to them like they are.

Even Spank! (which is *not* fairy kei) fits closer to the fk look because it still has cohesiveness and is a bit understated. Actual fairy kei has been pretty dead for a while save for a few Japanese/Western icons and people who don't post on social media anymore.

Spank! and Fairy Kei are separate. Some argue that Spank falls under the Fairy Kei genre, but Tavuchi herself said it is its own separate style and has nothing to do with Fairy Kei.

Yumekawaii is literally an adjective and can describe pretty much everything pastel girly (hence Larme, cosplay and Spank! being featured in the OP guide), just like kawaii itself but it's not much of an own fashion.
