I figured this would be better than the help thread, anyone ever do something like pic related?

A friend wants to cosplay Albus (doggo) yet he's unsure about how to go about the mask. He wants to make it himself, but I think it'd be easier for a commission. But neither of us know where to start.

How do I mod my fur suit to include a hole I can actually shit my diaper from without taking away the floof aspect that an entirely furry butt would give? The hole can't be small otherwise I'd risk having the shit inside of my fursuit instead of getting outside and matted against the fur but if it's too big I lose the volume of a furry butt.

It really depends on the type of fur suit. I struggle to find any artistic merit in shit like pic related. Basic, uninteresting and quite creepy to me on top of being an unappealing character design.

But the realistic ones are awesome because they could fit into a real alternate world where human animal hybrids exist. And the very exaggerated cartoony ones posted are clearly committed to that style which seems really hard to get right without it looking like shit. The anime style ones are meh to me but I can see more attention to construction in them than the typical "disney-ish football mascot-ish furry con fursuit" like pic related

>I can see more attention to construction in them than the typical "disney-ish football mascot-ish furry con fursuit" like pic related
This implies that Western style suits don’t take much effort to make, which is just wrong. Try making one and let’s see how it comes out.

Regardless of the type of suit, the same principles of sculpting are being used. Making good ones is really hard, no matter the style.

>> No.9829106

>>9829055
I wouldn't say they're easy but I'd appreciate if they keep mostly to furry cons. At an anime con, the fursuit people usually run around acting like idiots, like the deadpool cosplayers.
I've had issues time and time again with teen girls in a fursuit or a head and paws start grabbing at my chest or butt and they really don't know about personal space or feel pressured to stop because no one can see their face. Something about a cosplay/suit covering your face and a convention setting just gives people the go-ahead to do things they normally wouldn't do.

This right here. I don't know if it's just my luck or what, but everytime I've encountered a furry in that WB "toony" style, they're almost also a fucking sped; and they never cease to creep me out to a certain degree.

I personally love the realistic looking stuff and anime inspired ones I find genuinely cute. Shame I don't see those types as often.

I don’t like that many western suits, to be honest. There’s too much reliance on headbases, and they’re too anthro. Head size is too small for what they’re going for, and for a tall suiter this can look creepy. Granted, certain suitmakers do a great job with the anthro style and I enjoy their suits immensely, but the typical dog head man suit with bedroom eyes bores me.
I’d love to see more padded, cartoony suits with more exaggerated proportions. But that’s not what people want, they want to have an official DAD suit(TM) or sexy dogman. And big suitmakers don’t experiment enough, either.

However, I've seen other fursuiters not talk at all, use a squeak toy, act in character, not take their head off in front of people, etc. Do I have to act like this too?

Nope, try watching professional mascots (especially Japanese ones) for inspirations for suit performance. They really know what they're doing, and they don't do the "lolrandom" thing.

I'm still fairly new to suiting myself but a few things I've noticed, some people talk in suit others don't. I have so far mainly suited as a character the opposite gender to my own and I can't put on a convincing female voice so when I've been around kids during organised events etc, I keep quiet but I talk to other suiters and the organisers of course. I'll probably be more willing to talk with a male character suit now that I have one. Personally I can't stand squeakers but ymmv. If you need to take your head off for any reason then do it.
At public events I try not to remove my head outside of changing areas but am more relaxed at places like furmeets where there's fewer members of the general public but IMO if you wanna take your head off then go for it. Definitely take it off if you feel exhausted or any signs or heatstroke.

Definitely seconding watching professional mascot performers since it's difficult to remember that body language makes up 90% of your communication when in costume and you'll pick up ways of carrying yourself and how to interact with people differently based on their confidence on being around a mascot. It should go without saying that you don't want to act bouncy and energetic around a shy kid but I'm sure you've seen pictures or stories of clueless furries scaring kids because they have no idea how to behave in costume.

It's not just kids, a lot of adults get really uncomfortable around suits and new furries tend to push it and piss them off

>> No.9832104

true, more care needs to be taken around kids though

>> No.9832308

>>9831260
I always try to act in character, depending which character I'm playing as at the moment. I take a lot of influence from my experiences with character performers at WDW. I treat it a lot like I'm a performer for Disney, so no "lolRANDOM XP" harassing people and making people feel uncomfortable.

If anything, if someone sees my suit and says "awww, you're so cute!" then I'll [politely] interact with them. I try to make sure that they feel safe and comfortable around me.

ALSO: definitely try refraining from taking your head off in a non-headless lounge setting. I mean no one really would care, but to some it just breaks the "magic" I guess.

Unless you're getting overheated then take that shit off lol

A lot of furries seem to get fursuits for the “lifestyle”, wanting to show how proud they are of being furry and want to be popular like telephone, it’s quite immature. And inevitably, they make total asses of themselves in public because they have no self-awareness or theory of mind. I had this one weirdo rage at me when I stated it’s creepy to loiter at a playground in suit with no handler when there’s kids there, but she made it seem like it’s the kids’ and parents’ problem.
Good suit performance is generally not found in fursuit videos, unless the fursuiter was a mascot or dancer.

Been meaning to look into a pair of the cloven hooves for a future suit.

Yeeeikes. I believe you about that nutjob lady.
Some furs inflated egos unfortunately come with their fancy suits.

(If any newbies get anxious) While there are immature and ignorant furs like that out there, there are still nice and reserved furs too out there. Just make sure to watch out for any 'rotten apples'.

Like anon said, usually fursuit videos are the furs themselves goofing off with other furs doing silly stuff.

I definitely suggest studying up on how character performers positively interact with people, such as Disney.

There are even little guides too on fursuiting etiquette and manners out there too if you Google it.

As I mentioned before, I usually will interact with someone if I'm politely asked or prompted to in the first place, especially if it's a parent with their child. If they're just walking around minding their own business I will too.

Also I wouldn't dare suit outside of a convention setting. That's like cosplaying to high school levels of unwanted attention and stress.

They are from dreamvision, hands and feet hooves. Really good and lightweight, easy to work with and the plastic hand hooves are very fun to clack together and investigate things with.

These particular eyes are made by Sethaa. I decided to get eyes from her as well since I knew they would fit into her base. I had to make a special request for the coloured pupils - the sclera and iris are made the same way any other would be made in kemono eyes, and the pupil is as well (it is car tint which is used often, but in red). Red is not dark enough to hide the wearer inside so I installed an additional layer of red painted screen mesh to hide my own eyes. You can't even tell it's there. A side effect is that I see in red tint.

I actually am going to probably get myself some Big Nubz for my handpaws since my main sona/mascot's a boar-chimera.

Still good to know about the hand hooves though! I also have plans to make a zebra down to road too.

I love Sethaa's stuff! I should look into ordering something from her in the future too.
That makes sense too with the tint. I assume the screen mesh you use is buckram, right? Or is it crosstitching fabric? (My sis uses crosstitch fabric with her new suit's irises)

Yeah, I can assume it would lead also to literally seeing red haha. Oh well. Hopefully it doesn't get to be too much of a hindrance.

Good luck anon! I recommend sewing the face fur by hand along with details, and then doing machine sewing for big parts.

Also, anyone attending Anime Boston tomorrow?

Me and my sister will be walking around the Hynes trying to keep cool probably haha. I won't be in suit but I'll probably put on my badges on one of my beltloops or something.

Also! Heads up for the AB Dealer's Room! Pawstar's at the Dealer's Room in the second exhibit hall towards the right wall. They got tails, "bubble paw" (puffy) style handpaws, bunny tails, kigus, cybergoth shit, etc. if anyone's looking for partial suit pieces or rave stuff.

The mesh is just actual window screen mesh afaik. It was purchased from Curlworks. Holds paint well, waterproof, strong and flexible. Much better than buckram or any other more rigid plastic.

The red tint wasn't noticeable at all after maybe 60 seconds with the head on. Keep in mind that if you go for the kemono eye effect, you'll need something to keep the car tint from fogging on the inside of the head. I have fans, some people make anti-fog spray work.

I have three removable computer fans (via velcro). One inch fans behind each eye, angled to blow directly onto the eye film, and a slightly bigger one that I can put in the center to blow air into my face. You will need a place for the air to escape; I left my ear vents open and my jaw opens to let warm air out. Otherwise the fans will just blow hot air around inside the head. Since I have to open my mouth for any real air flow, I'm opting to cut the nostril holes out (built into my 3D print but I wasn't sure I would need to open them up originally).

I keep the toggles for the fans in pouches in the neck with the switches sticking out so I or my handle can simply reach under and turn them on. I can take pictures of the inside if you're interested, though it's quite messy and unlined as it's a personal head and I don't care.

I purchased my fans pre-wired from DVC.

Looks a right mess inside but everything is sturdy, comfy, and it works. I don't have pictures on hand of the finished head, but here it is before fur.

You can see the three fans across the middle, battery packs on either side of the jaw/chin area (covered with removable fabric in the finished head for easy battery changes). I MISS THIS SUIT! So cute ;_;

>that looming jack frost in the left corner lol
>plus old konami logo back when they were cool ; ____ ;

on the topic of old konami, i also started thinking of making a yuru-kyara kind of suit in the future of metal gear mark ii from snatcher ( imgs for reference: https://i.imgur.com/gYrtFMm.jpg https://i.imgur.com/dEExKkk.jpg))

Well I am going to probably chibi/simplify him a bit more to make him yuru-kyara like. Might look into either minky or a custom run of beaver/seal shag from Fursuit Supplies. Might also leave in the compartment for my arm to pop in and out for balance/hugs. Could even make his little monitor and eye lenses work in the future too if I learn more about electronics down the road.

I'd love to bring him to conventions like PAX and MAGfest and surprise older gamers and Snatcher/Kojima fans alike ∩( ・ω・)∩

(maybe anthro new england too just to walk around as a testing ground. anime boston would be too chaotic for me to traverse in a chubby birdbot costume)

I'm not active in the VGC scene anymore, but oddly there was a VGC tournament at Vancoufur this year. I always wondered if I knew the host or something but I think only one person showed up.
