Do you know what style you want to start with? This will determine the style of everything else. It can be difficult to mix different style blouses.
I would get a jsk or skirt, rather than an OP. They are more versatile. Then focus on a decent petti that matches the main piece in cut.

>> No.9820427

>>9820253
Also, know what style of dress will suit your body type. There are a few different cuts of dresses and nothing hurts more than looking like a giant frilly potato in a cut that doesn’t sit right.

Recommendations on good basic sewing pattern books?
I just want basic shirt, dress, pants patterns which would be easy to modify to different cosplays. I know there's books out there which has ready made basic patterns but the one I want the most is sold-out everywhere.

What would be the best way to do the visor and buckle, other stuff the belt for Char? I've already worked everything else out. I'm thinking about using thin cardboard for the belt stuff, but unsure about the visor. I could use cardboard but it'd look crinkled when bent around my face. I'm thinking of going to Joann's/Home Depot and seeing if there's some thin, plastic stuff I could use for it.

What's being shipped? This is ZenMarket, right? You can always pay a little extra for reinforced packaging if you're really worried; I've done this when having parasols shipped with EMS and never had issues.

a couple of bits of clothing, not more than 2kg. and yeah, zenmarket.
i just wanted to know if like SAL, DHL or airmail has a bad reputation for taking forever or losing things

>> No.9821817

>>9821811
In that case you shouldn't worry about damages to the parcel, ZM are very good at packaging even if you don't pay extra for reinforcement.
I've never used SAL and haven't had anything shipped with DHL in years, but airmail is typically fine. The only "issue" with airmail is that it takes a bit too long in my opinion, I have no patience so I tend to prefer EMS.
It might depend more on where you live and what the different services are like in your country though.

You can relatively easily get them out when the dresses are wet, preferably after they're hand washed. The other alternative is to go with something other than a matching headbow, but it highly depends on your coord. I'm so confused.
I was looking at all the stuff I've purchased on Lace Market and I scrolled all the way down and noticed something strange.
An item that I literally never purchased was there.
I checked and it said that I won the auction.
I know I wouldn't have bought it myself because it wouldn't fit me (It's a Bodyline blouse in small, and I'm too much of a fatty chan to fit into that) and it's not something I'd like.
The seller never messaged me regarding it, and I never messaged them. They do have a lot of positive feedback, so it's not like it was a deadbeat seller.
I'm just so confused. This happened in Janurary 2017, so it was a long time ago. It's not like I could've misclicked and bought it, you always have to confirm a purchase on LM.
Has this happened to anyone else? I'm just really confused. I'd feel awful if somehow I bought something and never paid for it, but at the same time the seller didn't message me if I did buy it. Is it just LM glitching out?

>> No.9827574

Well it's not like I ever paid for it, I'm quite stingy so I always pay a lot of attention when I'm buying something, nor did the seller ever send me an invoice, message, etc. I'd expect that of someone with 0 feedback, but I believe this person has 20+ feedback.
I'm usually very on top of things so I feel like I'd at least remember that I purchased something. I just feel really bad for that seller if I really did purchase it and never pay, but then they also never asked for payment. There's no history of them messaging me.
Since it was so long ago, I don't think it really matters enough for the admins to get involved, it's just really strange and confusing.
If it was something I think I'd buy, it'd be a little less confusing.. but considering it's too small for me and not my style, it just seems like some kind of glitch.

I don’t wear Lolita myself but I’m sure if you found a thin enough material for both garments, that doesn’t make you uncomfortable, and looks okay, that’d totally work! But stacking too many layers could chaff and be worse.

So, does the men's Roland jacket have enough flare for a lolita coordinate or is it different enough from the female coat that I'd have a hard time. Bust and waist are out of measurement for the female cut.

>> No.9828137

>>9827881
Yes they would work. They would probably look out of place if you wore them under short sleeves or in place of a blouse, but you could probably wear a long undershirt below a jsk and cardigan and look fine. Shorts are 100% fine, the petticoat will also add several layers of protection for the dress.

Compression wear/activewear might be better depending on the skin condition and the climate you live in, as it's usually designed to keep you cool and also breathe. Since it is skintight it will also prevent chafing. You shouldn't be able to see it since lolita is fairly full coverage. Something like psoriasis or eczema where you need to be creamed up may actually benefit from that as well because it'd be kinda like a wet wrap.

Fabulously stupid question. I've always had a crease around red line related. I'm not fat and I've always been around the same weight, just slightly chubby/soft. As a kid i know I wore a lot of ill fitting clothing due to poverty, including panties that were too tight as I grew. It's been there as long as I can remember, including as a child. TPO. Find a time, place, occasion where it's perfectly reasoable for you to dress in a waitress outfit and that will be fine.

There usually isn't a blanket "this is okay" for everything. An OTT princess looks nuts shopping for groceries. A casual cutsew dress looks too sloppy for a tea party.

That said, I can't really think of any place where it's okay to look like a cafe waitress. Maybe you can think of one though.

If the condition is fairly good, I'd say try listing them for sale anyway. They can be cut up and made into thigh-highs, worn with garters to keep them up. There's some prints that don't have OTK options so I guess making used tights into thigh-highs are the next best option if you're one of those collector types. Or maybe some girls just don't mind used tights, idk.

If they look kind of ratty then throw it out, or cut it up and use as rags to clean around the house.

If you have enough space you could also consider hoarding it until you want to sell the dress.

Kinda like this, right? (not me, just found through image search)
I'm only about 90lbs and I've got one too, it's a pretty normal thing and not really weight related, dont worry. That's just part of where your stomach creases when you bend over, and if you slouch often or spend a lot of time sitting in certain positions it can show up a bit more prominently. It's not really different from a forehead crease/laugh line. On some skin, depending on complexion and skin elasticity it leaves more of a noticeable mark than others. has anyone else been hit with insane shipping fees from japonica market? just received my final ¥5000 invoice for a light cotton dress and a thin hoodie that apparently exceed 1100g in weight. idk what to do, I’m suspicious that two light clothing items could weigh that much.

Japonica is generally expensive like that. Dresses are heavier than one thinks.

>> No.9835798

>>9835792
That fee is likely more than just for shipping to you, it likely includes shipping within Japan and service fees. Japonica add these extra fees to the final invoice when your order is complete, and if they're shipping your order via EMS, shipping for dresses tends to be about 2,000 yen, and the weight might include the box as well.
Though admittedly it is a bit odd; I paid almost 7,000 yen to ship my order this morning and I have a lot more stuff in mine which justifies the price, unlike in your case. Might be worth it to look at the calculation that they add to the email they send you about the order, to see how everything adds up.

It just occurred to me, I think I might be growing out of this, and I seriously don't want to.
I mean, it's been ages since I last made a costume, and a long time as well since I last went to a con. I'm wondering, am I getting old? Are my priorities and likes shifting away from this or is it simply lack of habit, that I've been out of this world for too long and that because of that I no longer feel the urge?

The situation is, I'm here, looking to plan a cosplay, and I don't really feel an urge, a real want or passion to make it, even though I want to (the real want referring to a more emotional kind of want, so to speak). Could it be plain laziness at work?

Kamina, however, has a fair amount of stuff, accessory and clothing wise, as well as the tattoos, to draw attention away from the lack of muscle, and even then, he's rather lean, all in all, he's no JoJo. I think you can realistically pull it off pretty well even if you're not muscular if the rest is spot on. Go for it.

How do you feel about your cosplays/the characters you cosplay? That's where most of the want and motivation comes from.

>> No.9839729

>>9839669
I might be misunderstanding the question, but whenever I'm going to do a cosplay I just don't make any random thing, I pick something with a design I like aesthetically, that I'd like to wear.
A design that belongs to a character that I know, that I've gone on a journey with, that I understand how he is and I like, that I enjoy the game he's from. You know, the usual.

It's something that takes effort, mostly because the costumes I make tend to be practically entirely from scratch, I can't just buy the parts, so I don't really see a point in making it just because, it's important to me that I really like the character I'm going after, or if it's a non character, that I like the design itself a lot. In a sense I see it as paying homage.
I tend to cosplay solo a lot due to that as well, I want to do something I'm sure I like, not something out of compromise.
I want it to truly mean something to me, it's what I'm saying.

It started with a bunch of shitty edits/filters on Tumblr and Snapchat. Just flower crowns, but people had a tendency to edit them on characters a lot, usually with aesthetic text or some shit as well.

Being asked for photos is always a boost, I'm not going to lie, but the main thing is the latter. The experience and learning of making it is very cool if stressful at times, and seeing yourself in the mirror with something you made with your own hands, after months of work, is certainly a very special feeling.
I really don't enjoy doing it in a group, however, I feel like I'm not in control, that now I have to meet other people's standards and that I have a hard time limit and it's just a stressful process.
It could be due to that that I don't feel the urge now, since my two last cosplays were with groups and the actual meetups were pretty underwhelming. That or lack of habit/laziness.
The group thing is a shame, though, since I had a lot of fun the times I do it on my own, I end up finding a group that's formed at a con, we all join and it's a great time.

How authentic do you want it to be? eBay, Ali and taobao are full of shiny satin "bathrobes", it's fairly easy to find red ones with floral designs. The downside is they're obviously shiny satin and obviously meant to be sold as cheap souvenirs to gaijin tourists, but if all you want is to use it as part of a cosplay it'll do its job well enough.

If you need it to be a real kimono, then ichiroya is the easiest site to find secondhand kimonos. If you're okay with using shopping services, Yahoo!Japan auctions and Rakuten both have pretty huge category of secondhand kimonos (real ones), yja lets you sort them by colour as well. The bonus is the kimono will at least be the proper length, the bathrobe shiny souvenir kimonos tend to be calf length while the real thing is usually ~160cm in length.

For me personally, I either look at characters I've liked in media I've already watched/played, or I just focus more on whatever media I'm currently consuming. The lens of a cosplayer is a bit different from just simply "I like their design!" I have to pay much more attention to what would look good on me, how to make things, etc. And then from there, I start planning a cosplay. It is pretty fun when you find a detail/prop that you know you have the vague knowledge of construction, but haven't actually done anything like it before.
Impulse cosplays are less fulfilling since it feels like making something just so I have a new cosplay to wear, at least for me.

I'm not the best responder probably as I'm not very tall (only 160cm) and not overly heavy (53kg), though my legs are a bit muscular from my job and they aren't as cute and skinny as I'd ideally like. When I did a pic of all my legwear my TF tights were noticablely longer than my other JP tights, so maybe they'd be better for slightly taller people. At the same time though the designs are so precisely printed that they don't stretch well at all. My lighter tights work better, the dark parts are less significant so it's not as noticable that the print is stretched, but I actually ended selling up my darker ones because the stretching thinned out the color too much imo.

So tl;dr, depends on the tights. Darker ones are better on skinnier legs. I'd just try them on and see how you feel with the ones you bought. TF tights are of decent enough rarity that you can probably sell them for what you bought if you think they thin out too much.

Are there any decent ebay wig stores left nowadays? My go-to store on there has ceased to exist, but I need one more basic wig I forgot to include in my last taobao order

I feel a bit silly not knowing this already, but hey that's what this thread is for right?

I normally avoid longer cut skirts as I feel they make me look too short, 5'3" here, but I'm trying to tell myself that I'll look alright with heels as I'm really eyeing the End of Immortal Eden skirt on LM. Since I've never actually looked into it, is there a good petti out there for longer skirts that isn't too volumous and not brand?

And since worn thread is dead, does anyone even have a picture of the skirt worn? Strangely hard to find. Or even a picture of another shorter busty girl with a longer skirt coord. I keep worrying the skirt will look terrible on me since I'm not a tall thin model type body and instead short and busty...

All right, done. It's a bit under 1kg, about 850, 900 grams thereabouts. Hope that helps.

I'm 160cm, but I'm a bit heavier than you are on the legs. My calves are pretty buff from doing serious bicycling in the past and present, so we'll see. Thanks for answering my question!

>The lens of a cosplayer is a bit different from just simply "I like their design!" I have to pay much more attention to what would look good on me, how to make things, etc.
Of course, don't worry, I'm aware of that. I'm not just going to pick up the first thing I see, I have to take into account if it's realistic for me to make it and have it look good and if it's compatible with my body type and face. Talking of which I should practice my makeup skills.

>It is pretty fun when you find a detail/prop that you know you have the vague knowledge of construction, but haven't actually done anything like it before.
Yeah, it's very cool, it's something I've noticed a lot now that I'm starting to really get into cooking. That feeling of actually knowing stuff.

I get you. And thanks for the advice, really. It's been pretty enjoyable.

Yo, /cgl/
I wanted to make a Jack of Blades cosplay, and I wanted to ask for advice on how to do weathering effects to give the armor a much more detailed and rich look instead of it just looking flat and ugly. Any info is appreciated, thanks!

How skinny do I need to be to cosplay Seto Kaiba? I'm shedding weight, and cosplaying is something I'm using as a target for when I've made it.

>> No.9842198

>>9842167
For Kaiba, height would benefit you more than width, I think. You want to be towering and intimidating.
But height's also nearly impossible to control so I hope you're naturally tall.
Anyway, as long as you're not a planet, no one will really bug you much.

If you're still in the process of losing weight, there's nothing wrong with continuing that, but I really wouldn't stress too much about it.

thanks, gulls. i know with cosplay you’re basically already kinda putting yourself out there but... i’m scared of rejection too. like i’ll follow someone and like their posts and send them a dm or something to no response. and they’re not... a super famous cosplayer or anything either. maybe i should get thicker skin?

Is it possible to get cute shoes in hellishly wide sizing? I'm a 7.5-8, 4E Wide. I normally shop in specialty stores, where I am limited to bland dress shoes, white or black tennis shoes, and ugly sandals.

Specifically I really want cute stuff for decora
