PAX East is coming up again soon. Are any of you going? Plan on cosplaying? I just got my tickets in the other day, gonna be going Thursday-Saturday

>> No.9821604

I will be going Thursday and Sunday, not too sure what I will be dressing up as yet. More concentrated with AB at the moment, and with a remake of one if my old outfits, but we will see.

>> No.9822149

I'm going Friday and Saturday. I never cosplay/dress up for PAX--too crowded and I don't wanna be getting stopped for photos while sitting in line for something. I had friends who cosplayed and Garrus and Tali from Mass Effect at PAX a few years ago and hardly got to play anything because they were getting stopped so often.

So what does everyone think about the price of going all weekend? For there to still be badges available this close to it happening is a first for me, but I can't shell out $200 to be there all weekend, and by the looks of it, I'm not the only one. Which is a shame, I'd love to be there all 4 days if I could.
Think there's any chance of them offering some kind of package deal next year? Or maybe reducing the prices of Sunday badges or something?

>> No.9822788

>>9822149
I cosplayed as a Jawa last year but it was hard to breathe/see for extended periods of time in the hood+mask and it was difficult to get around with people stepping on the bottom of the cloak. It was fun for a bit, but I wouldn't do it at PAX again.
$200 is a bit much, but with the hotels and travel and everything that most people have to pay for anyway I don't think the extra $50 will be a dealbreaker for many. A package deal could happen, but I wouldn't count on it

>> No.9829179

I'm going Saturday, still unsure if I am cosplaying. I remember there not being much cosplay at PAX and the stuff there was generally a much higher level than other cons like AB so I don't want to embarrass myself. I'm a new cosplayer so I know already my cosplay will be pretty crappy.

Anyone have much experience as a new cosplayer at PAX or see many beginner cosplayers?

>> No.9829194

I'm going all weekend. First time going to PAX. Planning to cosplay for some of the days. Definitely will be stopped too often to play/do anything so I might cosplay 2/4 days.

Going to be going all 4 days, I know I'm going as pic related for probably both Friday and Saturday.
Not sure what I'll be doing for the other 2 days, gotta think of something I can whip up quick.

>> No.9829629

Going but I'll be working, so no cosplaying for me. I'm excited to take pics and see the cosplayers though!

You are right that there isn't nearly as much cosplay as at AB. You're probably not going to get much attention (if that's what you're after) unless you're knocking it out of the park. Still, it's not a bad time and it does work as a conversation starter depending

>> No.9830554

Can any locals give clothing advice? Will it be warm inside the convention center so would short sleeves and pants be best? What kind of shoes are good for the wet pavement

>> No.9832137

>>9831388
Pax isn't really a popular cosplay event imo. Majority of people treat it like a non-exclusive E3 where they can try out new and upcoming games and see what's out there. Pax isn't really a con for the fans its much more a con for the industry.

>> No.9832142

>>9832133
Unless your staying in a hotel close by, you're going to freeze your ass off. Long sleeves, pants, and a jacket. There's a coat check in the con. Most shoes are fine for wet pavement. If you're worried about the actual shoe itself getting wet, don't wear anything mesh or fabric (ex converse). Regular running shoes are fine though.

Last time, PAX was on the coldest weekend of the entire year. It was fucking freezing outside, but it's a perfectly comfortable temperature inside.

Potentially going in my Persona 5 Futaba cosplay. Just going Saturday, maybe going to con-related events other days.

>> No.9839929

Anyone happen to have an extra Saturday ticket? My friend just found out he'll only be able to go for half the day on Friday so he was looking to pick up another ticket if anybody had one to spare. I know it's super late notice, his fault not mine.

Any advice for someone new to PAX to get the best experience? Going all four days and cosplaying Friday/Saturday most likely if it makes a difference.

Make a list of the talks and events you're interested in. I didn't even know where they were last time and ended up just walking around the convention center floor most of the time. Still had a great time, just missed out on alot of good bits.
Also talk to people if you're a sperg. they're friendly and you have something in common already

Give me advice on this pls
I want to make some friends this con instead of the usual "talk to absolutely no one and feel lonely" experience that ends up happening.

I wonder if they’ll do a Thursday again next year. It’s not exactly flying off the site...

>have friends interested in Thursday’
>buy tickets
>”oops that day won’t work”
>stuck with 2/3 passes
>can’t even scalp them since they’re going underface value

Goddamn

I've never really got this, I tend to have more fun at pax than anime boston. Maybe it's because I like games more than anime idk. but it's really the only play to play JS joust and I would go for that alone lol. I just find it easier to find randoms to hang out with at pax. The console room is much bigger so there is always a game of mario kart or donkey kongas to jump in on.

What are the pros and cons of AB vs PAX? Been to PAX 3x but never AB, just because it hasn't worked well with my schedule in the past.

I like PAX's panels with high profile guests (few as they may be). I also like the free swag and new games, but it also seems very highly commercialized. A lot of the appeal it seems is in the unique items you can buy, which I'm not too big on. I'm also not too into the tabletop aspect (i play tabletop games a lot but I'd rather play with friends as I do every other week back home instead of with randos)

From my local con (which is small) I like that like 50% of people are in cosplay, and that all the panels are very loosely bound so we can actually have fun with crowd participation without worrying about liability and shit. However you basically have to be with friends to have fun. Can't just sit down and play a game with randos. Dunno why, just the atmosphere I guess.

Based on that, would I like AB? Is it the best of both worlds, or does it just combine the aspects I don't like?

If you’re looking for sitting down with randos and playing games, connecticon is your best bet. The con is awful but it has a huge table top/board game area. Also I don’t think you’d like AB, the con itself is pretty lack luster and the day time panels are not worth glancing at.

AB is good if you are a big anime fan and enjoy panels and socializing. If you're here for gaming you're not going to enjoy it.
I disagree with>>9844485
about it being lackluster and such but we are two different people with two different tastes. That being said I agree with them that I don't think you would like AB.

Is it just me, or does PAX east seem to get worse every year? I've been going since 2016 and this year it was just pitiful. Nothing to do, nothing to look at, all the merch was the same, and the only thing that seemed slightly better this year was the quality of cosplay. At least that's what I noticed today.

How the fuck do these hook up situations even happen?

>> No.9845885

Firstly, does anyone know any good clubs around here to hit up tonight? Not a pax club--a real night club.

Secondly,
>>9845797
Merch was soo bad this year I was disappointed. Almost everything was purchaseable online for cheaper. I hate seeing that. There is a really cool booth selling copper sculpts though (forget the technical term). Needs more actual artists with unique things to sell that would be hard to find online. Not 10 MtG vendors and 5 board game vendors and 3 geek wear vendors.
That's my biggest complaint.
I also don't like how much of the floor was used up on things like facebook gaming. So corporate. So few people actually like that stuff but PAX makes money off of the bought up space.
The rest of it though (lack of good games and such) is not PAX's fault--it's just there weren't many good indie games recently.
Sad Beat Saber wasn't here.

depends on the character you go as/ how attractive you are. The typical con audience doesn't change just because the subject is slightly less asocial than other places. Go as zelda, you'll never leave the lobby. Go as an indiie title, eh, unless youre attractive (or your cosplay is so goddamn impressive that practical effect artists should hear about it) you'll struggle to even get noticed.
