Earlier I used the toilets and some disgusting degenerate had painted globs of discharge onto the cubicle wall - some was red. Whoever did that should know there is a special place in hell for you.

Not sure if I can remember all of them but the ones I do remember:

Final Fantasy 7 - not only terribly unfunny (it's 2018, "man in dress and gay confusion lol" is a lazy concept at the best of times and this was not the best of times) but also... really misplaced at a con that has always traded on being all-ages and now has several people bringing their children along. I don't think it would have been much better at a different con, really, but this was definitely not the place for it.

Freyarule and Bison-Senpai - undoubtedly would have been much better if not for the massive tech fail, they generally do good performances. Kudos to them both for rolling with it well though.

Guy singing something about Joan of Arc - the absolute low point of the evening, horrible performance (don't sing a metal song if you're not going to fully commit to it), didn't make any sense, for some reason the Ice King was there despite it not being an Adventure Time skit. Someone told me it was the same guy who did the Silent Hill song that went on forever last year, so someone needs to stop this lunatic.

Autistic girl talking about Pokemon Go - I don't want to judge her too harshly because she clearly was autistic and just wanted to take part, but there was no performance beyond her dancing at the end. I could feel the audience getting restless.

Dirk Gently - nice prop and some funny lines but needed better structure, it felt like it was put together at the last minute.

Tab and Christian - costumes were spot on as usual but the skit was very lacklustre. It actually felt like it could have been shorter - it centred on a gag that could only really get one good hit in and didn't work so well when it was drawn out. Maybe it was better if you could see the video clearly? Or maybe they just set too high a standard for themselves last year and anything they did this year would feel like a step down?

They've promoted it at every con going though? Kita, Hibana and now Minami. I don't see anyone shutting up about it online either. I know quite a few people going but I personally won't because I made Minami a priority.

As for skits I have to agree that they were fucking dire and I blame the fact that it's always the same people with the same jokes and the material is getting stale. At least Tim finally stepped down but he had the most variety in themes.
The bison thing however has been going on for 4 years now and I'm bored of it. We get it, you're Senpai to all, can we move on now?

There was another skit that anon from before missed, which was Bill Cipher in a furry form singing a song from the MLP movie. It was cringey, it dragged on, there was no need for it and I have never felt so strongly about any fandom dying a painful death. I want those minutes of my life back.

I remember this and felt so confused and wondered if it was from one group to split it up and tell a story throughout a masq (people do this shit sometimes) but no, at least I didn't get that vibe from it.
All of my friends who knew about the series looked to me for an explanation, and sadly I couldn't give them one other than it being a shitty AU.

I used to actually like Gravity Falls and watched it from release with it's fucked up release schedule, but now I just want it to burn. These people have ruined it for me.

the reason why i originally came on here was mainly because of my cosplay friends i became with on Facebook kept on going on about drama and stuff and id be so confused about what they were saying. I get not liking him, but at the same time we've been here in these threads at several points complaining about the lack of decent conventions and the lack of decent cosplayers.
I know there's always the risk of arrogant attendees and thots, but at the same time this will skim the layer of normie attendants we get at events like mcm.

This event is looking to take cosplay back to its roots, and if given a higher calibre of cosplay to choose from, the togs are more likely to ignore the posers that turn up with Chinese costumes and shitty wigs. I'm not saying it will, but this COULD provide a haven to those of us serious about it or deter casuals. If Kenny is as elitist as people are making him out to be, this is actually a bloody smart move on his part to get them out of the mix.

That being said I rarely go to an event on its first time running, but if I hear good reports I will be attending should they choose to run it again.

I haven't seen the other contestants but from her progress pictures her dress is crazy detailed and gorgeous up close. You have to keep in mind that with pre-judging, the judges have actually looked at the costume way more closely than you ever could from the audience. Something that looks more impressive from afar could be disappointing up close. So what you see isn't the same thing as the judges, and their opinions will be different because of that. Which I think is a good thing, since it gives the people who are more detail-oriented a fighting chance against the huge armors that tended to win every time at one point.
As for the judges, from what I've observed, they tend to be more critical of people they know personally, because they know what the person is capable of so they'll know if they fell short of their best, and also because they really try to be unbiased and overcompensate.

All you actually saw when watching is her stumble, in reality one of her legs dropped down the back of the stage, not much to actually look at and the video reflects that. Why bother going if you're not? Every other con is geared towards being social, why is it so bad to actually go to the con and do what it's arranged for? Maybe they'll check out what classes are on that day and drop in if their schedule permits? Not everything has to be so rigid.
If you have any cosplays which match up with anyone else you know then you've got yourself some good photo ops between those two characters - but that relies on people actually co-coordinating themselves.

I find it strange how cosxpo's tickets are remaining at being 2% despite seeming loads of announcements from them and groups saying to get your tickets. Surely they would have been sold out by now considering there seems to be a buzz around this new con. Just wanted to know how others felt?

Ahhh and here you've hit the nail on the head. I don't go to cons just to cosplay. I go to have a fun time with my friends and cosplay is just one aspect of it. I'm usually only in costume for about half the day. I guess I just don't belong at CosXpo cos I'm not a "cosplay fan"?

I think it’s a good time for a con with a costume and photography focus. Without the Hilton we just have the same locations repeatedly, and every MCM is so full of people now that decent shots are impossible, even if you do find a miracle spot that hasn’t been shot to death by now.

I wish congoers would make less of a mess in general so we could have events in nice locations sometimes. I totally get why they never want us there, though

I'm just home from CosXpo. It was pretty decent actually and had a relatively good time. Also better food for less money than most cons. The bagels were delicious and the opening of the bar later was grand. Granted, these are UoR facilities, but still...

I saw Kenny at a Tesco store in Reading yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and for photos or anything. Kenny said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, Kenny stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, Kenny kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Cosxpo was really good fun, lots of things to do and a lovely crowd. Hoping for it to be 2 days next year, I thought Kenny and his team did a great job of it all. Any hate just seems like a petty AL crowd because everyone I know has only given glowing reports of the event.

It takes practice man. Get used to the gear. I mean going from a compact camera to a DSLR won't automatically give you great results either. Hell half of the photographers at CosXpo were terrible and used their built-in flash, despite having expensive gear. They may need more time to get used to it.

No, I'm saying that the quality of shot was very clean and visually is great, minimal shaking and smooth shots, but in terms of video, it's fucking boring. Shit music that doesn't match video pace, no concept or thought put into the video concept. I know it might just be a simple cmv but a lot of videographers add depth in things like telling little stories with groups of cosplayers, focusing on cool costume details, references to their shows/films/games. Small things that show some thought has gone in.
Freshcrews mcm may video at least, it's just load of pretty women smiling or pointing guns at the camera to ill paced music. (Don't talk about the part 3 silly dancing video, even worse)
I'm saying that it's all good and well having great equipment but it doesn't make the actual videos any good, as proven by other videographers with non expensive equipment but great video content.

Bet none of the people praising it were dealers. Most of the others I talked to were not wanting to come back next years since the ammount of money made was fucking awful, not to mention to many cosplayers asking for things to be cheaper or free.

Everything else was fantastic, especially the staff, which would make me want to go as a normal person next time, less than £50 made in a day was soul-crushing, especially following Birmingham MCM's the week before.

Mostly generic dealers table shite, so the usual badges, (pride badges as well as fandom badges because one of the group insists on making them) stickers, purses, scarves (they were new so I wasn't expecting to sell any) and a bunch of keyrings/phone charms as well as some jewellery. All our own art/handmade designs.

Granted, I'm fairly sure half of it was due to the unfortunate placing of being very close to Ohayou, who do similar with similar prices, except they also make t-shirts that are very, very nice; as well as relying too much on our past cons as an expectation on one that was in its first year.

Luckily the table was shared between my group and another artist so it wasn't much of a loss except in terms of being bored.

(Sorry if this is long, I haven't ranted about this to anyone yet.)
