Literally no one cares what you want to make your itabag with. As long as it looks good and is cohesive, it's fine.

>Itabags are bags decorated with character merchandise, often from but not limited to anime, manga, or video games.

Literally the third line of the FAQ.

Also, the FAQ has a ton of links to base bags. Pick one with a deep set window. That's it. WEGO sells like 8 different styles of them. It's not that hard. Don't come here wanting to be spoon fed when it takes 2 seconds to look this shit up.

I have the same idea going for a cosplay very few people would recognize or might confuse with another series. The object of her affection is more recognizable so I'm making an itabag with him. This isn't the best example because I'm redoing it to change the backing and clean it up, but it's a pretty large acrylic with an awkward shape. The only thing is if you rub the edge too much it'll come open as you can see in the pic, but if you give plenty of space between the charm and the seal you should be fine. Just make sure it doesn't overheat or you end up with a bubbly edge (also in the pic!).

I had this weeb approach me on the train when she saw my bag. She talked about how she always wanted to visit Japan, and that she was a makeup artist studying SFX. She pestered me about giving my phonenumber so I could give her anime tips and be her makeup model. I didn't give it to her, but I can't really be rude to people not being assholes, so I let her add me on Facebook and instagram. Actually not trying to defend bootlegs: I get why use original merch
But
Besides for yourself to know
Who's on the street gonna see the difference? I mean, you are the weirdo weebo both cases
But otherwise?
For the bag to be more aesthetically pleasing for yourself? It makes even less sense, if consider somebody prefer how non-off merch looks or can't really see how bootlegs differ
Those are mostly fuckin tin pins and rubber straps -- things are very easy to print
So there is no way official ones can be drastically different qualitywise (if done right tho -- not like some special taobao abomination)
Do not have an itabag and not planning (mainly 'cause hasubandos too obscure), but like to lurk
So, I guess the main question in the end: why all this restrictions if you just wanna have fun

This hobby comes in very important parts:

1. Your stuff is in a bag
2. Your bag is based on something you love, usually waifu
3. The bag + waifu = dedication. That dedication is your love. That love means spending money on what you love so you can show everyone your unhealthy obsession. By purchasing and supporting bootlegs you are directly hurting what you love.

"Nobody will know" isn't an excuse for putting the people who create what you love out of a job and time. Bluh bluh big corporations scary isn't an excuse either.

Also there's no such thing as a quality bootleg they are purposely made of cheaper materials so the bootlegger can make as much money as possible. You might think nobody would notice your knockoff, but bootlegs are never 100% accurate, they always have some defect and the material is different. Defending them just devalues everything you own.

Factory rejects are not bootlegs but theyre rejects for a reason.

TLDR luxury hobby pay up or fuck off

plus, as someone buying almost exclusively for a niche franchise, my actions do have some direct impact on whether or not things will continue to be released. as a result, i try to buy first party as much as possible. it does make it more expensive but it's worth it to me.

Buying official merchandise isn't a restriction.

Also making a bag "for fun" isn't the point, that's the logic that killed lolita. Like you can make a joke bag, but once you're at $300 on a single bag it's not for fun anymore its serious money.

Honestly, showing my dedication is the fun. The hunt is half the fun of my itabag- finding a new merch design, hunting for sellers, saving the money and the excitement of seeing the item come in are all aspects of what makes itabagging fun for me. Buying bootleg makes me feel a little gross, to be honest. It feels like I've lied to myself about how much I care for a character/franchise, because why did I decide to make an itabag for something if I can't put in the minimum of at least trying to get something authentic? If I see a bag full of bootlegs I could find on the first page of taobao resellers versus one with old merch, merch from rare gachas, merch from crane games, etc. I am far more impressed with the second, not just because it's official but also because of the effort that probably went into completing the bag.

These threads have turned to absolute shit.

Fanmerch CAN be lazy/cheap, but that doesn't always mean that it is. Does a character have a lot of official merch, but you choose to take anime/manga screenshots and make into buttons and slap them in a bag? Then yes, it's cheap and lazy. Does your character have little to no official merch so you're commissioning pieces for a bag and buying fanmade because you love them so much? Then no, not cheap, not lazy.

Bootlegs are always cheap and lazy and you don't love your husbando/waifu if you buy them, plain and simple.

Within limits, though.
Conbags are when you don't have a theme, your entire bag is just "shit I like." That's different than what I was saying.
I was saying that you can put any merch you like on your bag but that's under the assumption that it retains the theme of a specific character/ship/group. Sometimes fan stuff is just nicer than the official, take Hetalia for example.

So long as you’re careful not to Mike Wazowski someone it can look good. The face is what people focus on, so losing a leg or hand behind something isn’t a big deal. We have this argument every other thread. Fan content isn’t bad and purchasing it helps support artists. Mixing official and fan isn’t a sin either and sometimes fan content looks better and has more variety. Like P5 has plenty of merch but I’ve yet to see anything official that includes some of the DLC outfits I really like. Meanwhile fans are churning out more charms of it every week.

The only wrong ways to do this hobby are to buy bootleg, have your bag look like complete shit, or call your conbag an itabag.

Did you not read the argument? This time the issue is purposefully choosing fanmerch over official because "its my autistic bag!" Its exactly as what was said earlier, if you actually dislike using his official merchandise when it's available, and would rather fill your bag with fanmerch, then yeah you really DO need to step back and ask if you even like them.

If you don't like how your character looks in official art... Then how can you say you like them? I mean there's exceptions because some merch is undeniably ugly (fuck you funko). But you disregard ALL official in favor of fan is a sign you're in the hobby. Mixing fan and official is fine but you should always aim to have the majority as legit stuff (see exception of minimal official such as voltron and fire emblem) if your series has it.

Tiger and bunny is an amazing example. After the series aired people kept buying the merchandise, they kept giving the company money and showing how much they loved it. Doujin works were so huge an entire section of comiket was dedicated to them. It worked like this

>company puts out merch, fans buy it
>doujin artists make fan works, people buy it
> artists continue to produce fan works, keeping the fandom alive
> keeping the fandom alive means the company can safely release more merchandise
> people buy the official because they're in too deep now
> years later it gets a second season

It's a mutual relationship. Series like Fate and Touhou have exploded because fanmerch kept people interested enough for them to drop the thousands it takes to release official. The issue is if people choose the fan over the official then it will kill the official off. If you really love your series enough to make a bag you NEED to support official releases. This is common sense it shouldn't be a debate to begin with.

Hate to tell you but there isn't a way to use a clearfile with merch on top without damaging it in some way. Your only options are to pin through it, use glue dots/tape/sticky strips to hold the merch to the clear file, or just place everything on top of the clear file and hope it won't move from will alone. Or you could be a heathen like Tiger and Bunny anon who cut up clear files for their bag.

damn thanks. I was considering maybe using the glue dots alone since badges and straps arent ridiculously heavy.

I also thought about maybe getting a sturdy clear sheet to put in front of the clearfile and attaching everything to that but the pins would be visible.

I was gonna use a royal blue bag with a white and gold polka dot insert. Your white bag with 1000000 yellow letters sound like a cute idea!

>> No.9810563

>>9808398

I like it on that blue bag only. I think on any bag the colors have to be chosen well, and on a larger bag, some should be glued or sewn higher up for visual continuity. I was considering sewing some onto mine but went with cute plastic flower buttons instead.

Yesterday at AC Moore I had an idea about glue dots melting merch. Has anyone tried putting a few layers of duct tape on the back of the strap/whatever and putting the glue dot on top of that? If someone has and it didn't work, or someone tells me that actually I'm a dumbass and that wouldn't work because xyz, I'm planning on trying it out.

>duct tape directly on the acrylic print

>> No.9810833

>>9810747
The issue isn't that the glue dots melt the merch, it's that they melt, period. It ruins the merch and the bag.
And people have ruined acrylics with just washi tape. Duct tape would be just throwing your stuff straight into the trash.

>> No.9810834

>>9810747
Giving benefit of the doubt and assuming you meant washi tape please dear god don’t use duct tape unless you hate your merch that much. But there are risks with washi tape too. Pretty sure it’s in the faq but there’s risk of staining or ripping the design off.

>> No.9810857

Anon don't listen to these salty bitches, they're just upset they didn't come up with this great alternative to washi tape! I recommend you try it out and post pictures for us to see! I know i'd really appreciate you sealing acrylic charm backs with duct tape and letting us know how it goes <3 I think you're a genius I can't believe we haven't tried this! I wonder why

Other plush bag anon from last thread.
Got the 2way tote today and it's great! Zippers and straps are sturdy. My little guys look so cute inside. I have a few more I wanted to fit, but it looks to be 2 capacity for this. (Each plush is 6.5"x4") (I need a bigger tote.)
