Actually that's pretty reasonable considering it has one of the rarest pairs of exclusive acrylics and can badges that are worth 5000yen for each item alone. And I see quite few other cafe/thailand/onsen exclusives in the lot too. I'd probably place a bid on it if I had that much money to spend at once.

I make itabags because I want to collect things, but I have an attic room with an awkward ass cieling so I can't put shelves up. Having them in a bag means I can collect lots of stuff, display them nicely, and not suffer furniture issues. I wouldn't use mine daily because I don't feel like getting harassed in the streets or having stuff stolen, but I take them to cons!

Most people don't even know who the character on my bag is so usually no one comments. Only bad experience was when I was in a Japantown some girl came up to me and started stroking a plush I had on the outside of my bag and said "huh who is this?". I don't think she meant to steal anything but it is still really uncomfortable for a stranger to put their hands on your stuff.

If you can't find soft card sleeves you can actually use ultrapro tcg sleeves, just make sure they don't get too hot or they'll melt. They come in various thickness so make sure not to buy the really thin shit

This isn't the best example because I'm redoing it to change the backing and clean it up, but it's a pretty large acrylic with an awkward shape. The only thing is if you rub the edge too much it'll come open as you can see in the pic, but if you give plenty of space between the charm and the seal you should be fine. Just make sure it doesn't overheat or you end up with a bubbly edge (also in the pic!).

Self-laminating means it comes with adhesive on it, right? Yeah, that's definitely not what you want to stick on an acrylic.

If you have to get materials at office max you want badge/nametag protectors/ID sleeves without any adhesive. they're plain clear rectangle sleeves about the size of an index card with a hole on one side to clip a lanyard onto.

But really just buy the plain material by the yard

Not in the US bro :( no Joann. I did look into pvc roll but the only kinds I could find in my country were way too thick to use for straps. I've got some id sleeves on order that I want to try with the rest of the straps from that set however.

Card sleeves did the job great though and weren't expensive at all, pic attached was a test one. Once I got the heat setting right it worked perfectly, and it's not flimsy plastic which was my main worry.

This hobby comes in very important parts:

1. Your stuff is in a bag
2. Your bag is based on something you love, usually waifu
3. The bag + waifu = dedication. That dedication is your love. That love means spending money on what you love so you can show everyone your unhealthy obsession. By purchasing and supporting bootlegs you are directly hurting what you love.

"Nobody will know" isn't an excuse for putting the people who create what you love out of a job and time. Bluh bluh big corporations scary isn't an excuse either.

Also there's no such thing as a quality bootleg they are purposely made of cheaper materials so the bootlegger can make as much money as possible. You might think nobody would notice your knockoff, but bootlegs are never 100% accurate, they always have some defect and the material is different. Defending them just devalues everything you own.

Factory rejects are not bootlegs but theyre rejects for a reason.

plus, as someone buying almost exclusively for a niche franchise, my actions do have some direct impact on whether or not things will continue to be released. as a result, i try to buy first party as much as possible. it does make it more expensive but it's worth it to me.

I have. I ended up nervously biting the bullet and asked a few doujin artists if they would be willing to put their merch online after their event. I was delighted when they were quite willing to do so. So that is always an option you could look into.

Pic related is one of the buttons my friend sent me from the latest sb69 doujin event in japan. He only has one offical button of his myumon form, the rest of his merch is of his stage actor. I'm really excited to start piecing together his bag!

Buying bootleg makes me feel a little gross, to be honest. It feels like I've lied to myself about how much I care for a character/franchise, because why did I decide to make an itabag for something if I can't put in the minimum of at least trying to get something authentic? If I see a bag full of bootlegs I could find on the first page of taobao resellers versus one with old merch, merch from rare gachas, merch from crane games, etc. I am far more impressed with the second, not just because it's official but also because of the effort that probably went into completing the bag.

I’m not a big fan of overlaying merch myself unless they’re dupes since I like showing everything I’ve gotten and included. It takes some rearranging but overlaying straps or other badges over empty spaces on badges or wedging odd shaped charms together like puzzle pieces works. So long as you’re careful not to Mike Wazowski someone it can look good. The face is what people focus on, so losing a leg or hand behind something isn’t a big deal. But all this really depends on your own taste.

Its exactly as what was said earlier, if you actually dislike using his official merchandise when it's available, and would rather fill your bag with fanmerch, then yeah you really DO need to step back and ask if you even like them.

If you don't like how your character looks in official art... Then how can you say you like them? I mean there's exceptions because some merch is undeniably ugly (fuck you funko). But you disregard ALL official in favor of fan is a sign you're in the hobby. Tiger and bunny is an amazing example. After the series aired people kept buying the merchandise, they kept giving the company money and showing how much they loved it. Doujin works were so huge an entire section of comiket was dedicated to them. It worked like this

It's a mutual relationship. Series like Fate and Touhou have exploded because fanmerch kept people interested enough for them to drop the thousands it takes to release official. The issue is if people choose the fan over the official then it will kill the official off. If you really love your series enough to make a bag you NEED to support official releases. This is common sense it shouldn't be a debate to begin with.

Hate to tell you but there isn't a way to use a clearfile with merch on top without damaging it in some way. Your only options are to pin through it, use glue dots/tape/sticky strips to hold the merch to the clear file, or just place everything on top of the clear file and hope it won't move from will alone. I like it on that blue bag only. I think on any bag the colors have to be chosen well, and on a larger bag, some should be glued or sewn higher up for visual continuity. I was considering sewing some onto mine but went with cute plastic flower buttons instead.

Yesterday at AC Moore I had an idea about glue dots melting merch. Has anyone tried putting a few layers of duct tape on the back of the strap/whatever and putting the glue dot on top of that? If someone has and it didn't work, or someone tells me that actually I'm a dumbass and that wouldn't work because xyz, I'm planning on trying it out.

The issue isn't that the glue dots melt the merch, it's that they melt, period. It ruins the merch and the bag.
And people have ruined acrylics with just washi tape. Duct tape would be just throwing your stuff straight into the trash.
