>What is Macarouji/Rococcouji
A term recreated by /cgl/, combining "macaroni" and "ouji". Historic and Lolita fashion inspired by the 1700's
>Macaroni?
An 18th century term for Italian influenced clothes, that "exceeded the ordinary bounds of fashion". Big wigs, fancy hats, outrageous makeup. Jfash before Jfash.

1. Get felt hat from anywhere, I buy mines at H&M

3. Pimp it

>real boystyle
"boystyle" just means the male version of a typically female fashion. in this case, it is short for "boystyle lolita." butchness is fine if you can dress and do your hair and makeup within the style.

Gropey has good critiques of Grandpa Ouji (pic related), who is allergic to fitted clothing, but the brand Ikemen Mode has many 18th-century-inspired items and was created for bigger Western bodies that could not fit into brand. large oujis have the same issues large lolitas have, but fewer (far fewer!) options. however, it is not impossible for the butchest of people to wear the fashion, if they want to.

I thought Gropey was going to lose it over how much works he puts in to his cords to still look like he's wearing his big brother's clothes.

But he never pretends to be otherwise, so it's cool, and historic stuff is useable and so much cheaper.

Triple Fortune does a lot of Rococo inspired wear. their limited ouji releases make for good macarouji items. their 3F items are not as detailed as what they themselves wear for performances as visual kei band Brilliant Kingdom, but sometimes their fashion shows showcase extravagant designs.

It is indeed a hilariously ancient photo (over 10 years old) and I'm kinda amazed someone has it saved. That is actually a prototype hat I made to see if there was interest in mini tricorns back when pirate Lolita started getting popular. It's flat because I didn't have a round form yet and was just testing. All actual tricorn hats I've sold have had rounded tops. I still make them after all these years.

Dress for the heat, and wear comfortable shoes. Furthermore, people WILL come up to you, as questions and ask to take pictures (some will just take your picture like a zoo animal anyways). Don't hesitate to tell people you are just a visitor. Our regulars, like whole families that dress up, love seeing candid shots of them enjoying the town, and love being part of the experience.

I assume you mean sell, and yes. You will pay way more than its worth though.

FWIW, i was able to score 4 yds of one of the older OOP repro fabrics recently, which is going to become a caraco or skirted jacket, so that will be a fun project.

>Our regulars, like whole families that dress up, love seeing candid shots of them enjoying the town, and love being part of the experience
this is exactly why i decided to do this! feels more immersive for me. it's nice that williamsburg is really open to people dressing up...i know a number of sites that don't allow it. as for the zoo animal bit...i'm fairly used to that from going to conventions, so nbd there.

thanks again, gropey! (if you have any thoughts about the current food offerings in the taverns, i'm all ears!)

Yes. The version of the song you're thinking of was used to make fun of American colonists, who, according to the British, couldn't really understand or emulate "culture," but rather only poorly imitate it, hence the Yankee sticks a feather in his cap and thinks that's good enough for Macaroni.

I started sewing because I got into Lolita when none of the Japanese brands shipped to the US and I was broke. My grandma took a day to teach me how to use a sewing machine, read and cut a pattern, and press a seam. After that I figured it out in my own. I made alot of skirts and headdresses in the beginning. The best resource I've found for teaching yourself sewing is " The Readers Digest Complete Guide to Sewing" 1970s edition.

As I mentioned in the previous thread, the fact that they are weapons is a problem, as is that they will knock over furniture, catch on skirts, and batter people in the knees and shins if you are not specifically trained to walk with one. Most boy's etiquette and fencing classes in the 17th and 18thC included specific lessons on being able to navigate a crowd, sit in a chair, etc.

And removing the sword is not an option. Losing immediate control over your weapon is a hazard.

I may have made several waistcoats and a couple pairs of fall-front breeches but I can tell you with confidence that fly-front breeches are the devil's own pants.

The embroidery is based on an example from LACMA that's a decade later (https://collections.lacma.org/node/214535)) but I've seen examples from earlier with similar embroidery. I was given total freedom to do what I want since he's not interested in accuracy but I AM so I didn't stray too far outside of the parameters of extant examples.

On the subject of the chemise a la reine. Does anyone happen to have the images taken of the Platt Hall chemise by Mode Historique? She shared some photos of it on her blog which gave a much better view than the tiny museum photo, but at one point the blog got deleted and when it briefly came back she never reuploaded them.

Found one from another person's blog, a tleast.

yo, that's me! FWIW, chemise dresses (especially if you're doing the unstructured version) are just giant squares of fabric that get gathered via channels sewn in under the bust and at the waist. as long as whatever pattern you're using has the proper armhole size/placement, you're good to go. i'm personally going with the laughing moon pattern since i'm familiar with their stuff (have made their victorian corset, underbust waist cincher, and elliptical hoops). i only own the RH robe francaise pattern, but didn't end up using it because it didn't have the waist seam i needed for the project.

i agree that RH tends to be a bit better for a lot of periods, but in this case it's basically a big gathered square, so i'd say you could honestly probably go either way.

gropey, what's (in your opinion) the best fall-front breeches pattern around? i've never been successful at getting my attempts to lie flat enough. plus i'm a chick, so dealing with the nonexistent wast to hip ratio in men's patterns can be a pain.

I knew someone who had this dress from the same line and it was pretty nicely constructed, but the fabric looked a bit cheap in most lighting. Especially since it was a pain in the ass for her to steam flat.

>> No.9808710

The dress in this picture looks better, but the details like those buttons facing down, unfortunate choice of fabric for that white frilly details and the folds on the waist area (that might have been avoided with better construction, better ironing or pining the dress to fit the manequim better) are what give them a kind of cheap look.

It's not bad, it's an actual cute dress, but those little details would make it look so much better. I'm always sad when I see pieces with so much potencial looking a little bit meh because of a thing or two.

Loaded question. Not all units are created equal. For every well dressed, well drilled and professional looking unit, you get five that are sloppy, poorly dressed trash.

If you can find a good one, and convince them, then you can probably get yourself a fine group of men in smart uniform, who would do it for the chance to dance, dine and enjoy themselves after.

If you get any other group... You'll ruin your wedding, lets leave it at that.

illustrator and ouji @inkwell_illustrations (Instagram) has fantastic tailoring skills. maybe not as 18th-century-looking though.

the final issue of Gothic and Lolita Bible was fairy themed, but there is a drought of fey coords in the western comm, despite horns and wings and such gaining ground in Japan.

his handmade jacket+waistcoat combos feel inspired by the 18th century but the fit is more modern. but the length and open front of the jacket plus the fitted waistcoat underneath (mimicked by Boz's Roland designs, the go-to item for most brand macarouji coords) seems to belong to that era. men's jackets seem to have permanently closed up in front in eras afterward.
