I think it's just her hair texture, being biracial.
it's the same as curling under, except it's done more loosely and without the aid of a round brush to keep it smooth and uniform like top pic. try just curling the ends of your bangs, about an inch or less, with a straightener, and then separate the bang. then run the warm exterior of the straightener over the top of the bang, trying the keep the curls pointed to the side.
it won't be exact, depending on your texture and thickness, but try it out.

Are you actually curling your bangs inwards (towards your forehead) with the straighteners? It almost looks like you haven't.

Also maybe invest in a hair roller for your bangs, so that way it's wet set and so stays longer than if you use heat.

Anons lend me your ears.

A couple of years ago I got my hair badly bleached at a salon and I'm still growing out the damage. I've had to cut it back into a pixie so many times I'm feeling pretty sunk cost fallacy about it. Is it worth it just to buzz it off and wear wigs? Have any anons done this? I just want long healthy hair lol.

Okay, so the scan isn't that great quality and the Japanese is hard to read on my screen, but from what I'm getting, the general process is:
Make bangs in a wide side part, using a lot of hair. Separate into two parts, and twist while holding it.
Twist the two parts, pin them, and gently tug random pieces to create volume.

I have some recommendations to make! I have naturally thick, coarse, frizzy hair and two treatments have worked really well for me. Brazilian Blowouts will relax your hair and kind of thin it out without making it limp, and Japanese Straightening will totally flatten it all out and make it easier to deal with. The difference is that the brazilian blowout kind of washes out after a while and the japanese does not. I did the japanese straightening on my hair a few months back and its still easy to style and totally worth the money. but if your hair isnt super curly then a brazilian should work just fine! I hope that helps some

Why, when brushing with a proper brush does the same thing?
My hair is pretty healthy as is. If I didn't brush, my roots would be gross and the middle and ends of my hair would be a lot drier. Most of the "throw away your brush!" type arguments I've seen haven't had any actual science behind them.
Obviously if you have very curly or kinky hair, brushing it might not be the best, but my hair is noticeable worse when I don't brush it much.

Probably a combination of that and having small child hair, which is often very soft when detangled (and a small child memory, which often overblows things like how soft your hair feels when grandma brushes it). Hi cgl I'm looking for some advice regarding bangs. Some months ago I got my bangs cut at a hair salon. I showed the hairdresser a pic of this girl https://youtu.be/NQfg1fDyDag and while her bangs are triangle shaped,I got the classic semicircle part. It does look good on me,because I have thin-ish hair, but I want to switch to a triangle part with side pieces. Will it look good? I'll probably have to deepen my part

>> No.9795973

>>9795699
Also, aside from differences in your hair child vs adult, butt length hair as a child is a hell of a lot shorter than butt length hair as an adult. So the ability of the brush to redistribute oil is going to be less on longer hair, and there's probably going to be more opportunities for the brush to catch on your hair and break it.

>> No.9795986

>>9795951
Take the bits of your hair you want to make into a triangle and pull them down. Pin the rest back. See if it looks reallly thin or like what you want.

If you do decide to go for it, trim the bang parts from your triangle and grow out whatever is not in the triangle for a few months. Those will eventually become your side pieces. Then, when the extra hair is long enough, go back in an add a second thin layer to either side of your triangle to make side pieces. Pin the rest back until it’s pong enough that it’s not an issue.

I think the difference is in texture. If your stylist is a good one, they'll explain how texture and volume in hair differs and how that will affect the styles you'll want. Get a roots volumizer if you don't have one. Try a diffuser attachment on your blowdryer and don't overdry. I have texture myself that's a lot like the picture on the right, and I have to be careful not to dry my hair entirely. Texture in hair seems like it's hard to recreate if it's not in your genes, but that's something a professional stylist would know better.. It looks like what >>9804805
might be the best way to replicate this look, because your hair looks fairly fine. It also looks a little HEAVY with product. Try using less product. So! I got a nasty disaster of western bangs with nightmare “side pieces” back in August. I was able to train them into triangle bang so fairly painlessly. What I did:

1) Got home and decided what I actually wanted to be the core triangle of my bangs (no side pieces)
2) Pinned bangs and side pieces not in that triangle to the side
3) Cut the few long bits of hair from the top of the triangle toward my crown that had not been cut
4) Pinned my ugly bang/sidepiece bits back every day until the hair that I wanted to be sidepieces were all the appropriate length (it was a mix of lengths due to the weird cut)
5) Trimmed the sidepieces
6) Kept pinning back everything else until they could pass as layers

My hair looked like I wanted by December, but as long as I styled it it never looked bad

>> No.9810513

The tightness and size of your braids affects the resultant waves. Back in the 90s when crimpers were a thing, the non heat styling way of getting a similar look was to put one's hair into at least a dozen thin, tightly pulled braids and sleep on it overnight.
So if you want looser waves particularly at the ends you're looking at trying to get your hair into a single braid, two max. Try and get it really tight, because you can always loosen waves gently with finger combing (this doesn't increase the size, just how "tight" they are) and you can also gently brush, although depending on your hair you may find it just causes them to poof slightly and pulls the wave out completely.

If it's curls you prefer and you have time, rag curling is an option for virtually all hair lengths. Don't do what one anon did which was to not take notice of the direction she curled it in, unless you like the wild poodle look.

I asked few threads ago about my hairloss and one anon gave me an advice to look for proteins. If anon sees this, thank you for your advice, I actually took it and started to count I get enough.

However, sadly my problem has only gotten worse. I'm pretty certain it's caused by either hormones (I have been on same bc for 4 years now but it's acting up) or constant anxiousness. Got my bloodtest taken few weeks ago and it was all good but even my bf commented yesterday how thin my hair has gotten and we have only known for 4 months so it's a recent change. When my hair is pulled there is atleast 3, usually more loose hairs. They are also full length, not broken. Even my fringe has started to get noticiably thinner.

I'm going to change into capsule which hopefully will help. But I would also like some opinions on what to do now. My hair is pretty long and otherwise healthy looking but it's honestly pretty sad atm. I'm thinking about cutting it but it feels bad after spending few years dreaming of this length and idk if it will help the thin look at all. Atleast shorter loose hairs everywhere would be not as annoying and it would be easier to wear a wig, right?

If it's nutricion related, like a protein deficiency, you need to be very patien before noticing results..it could take a while.
I suggest you keep trying to consume enough proteins.
I work with bariatric patients and most of the time when their hair starts falling out it's either low b12, low b vitamins in general or not consuming enough proteins.
But you can't always blame vitamins, protein or nutricion, it could definitely be stress related or hormonal.
In some cases it can also be hereditary, unexplained or due to autoimmune disease.
Contraception could work if it's a hormonal imbalance, especially cyproteron / ethinylestradiol which is often precribed to women with PCOS, hairloss or acne.
Some people also claim using a ketoconazol shamppoo works, I don't know if it's true but if you have a flaky scalp, you may want to give it a try anyway.
I assume you haven't been anesthetized in the past year? You can also get hairloss from that.

My hairloss started about a year ago and then I was definitely consuming enough proteins, I only recently changed my diet a bit and forgot to focus on new protein sources. It was pretty short period of time and I got it fixed and I think it got a bit better. Then after the New Years until recently I have been super stressed out and I feel like I have lost a great amount in few months. I have been tested for other health issues for especially thyroid, iron and b12 and a bunch of others and everything was good. Nothing is even in the lower spectrum of healthy which makes me think it has to be either mental or my hormones are somehow messed. I have just moved so I will try to get myself checked again since my last doctor was super unintrested in treating me and I still don't know what is generally wrong with me - could just be I am just depressed and it's influencing my physical health. Thank you for your suggestions, they will be useful to bring up when I go to an appointment. Apparently one have to be demanding and suggest everything in order to get treatment here.

It's very bizarre because my hair grows like crazy. It didn't even touch my shoulders few years ago and now it's past my bust. I will have to look up which vitamins etc. would be helpful but also be careful to not overdose.

Thank you all anons. I never imagined how much my hair meant to me. Sure, there are worst things to happen and I'm otherwise decently healthy but it's still pretty sad.

If it's any comfort, red colors tend to fade pretty fast, so it should get a lot softer after several washes. But it looks like you've got highlights and in those areas it won't go rose gold, but more baby pink. You could try a semi permanent ash blonde color after a while to even it out if it isn't to your liking.

random anon chipping in to add: sometimes prescription meds can cause hair loss, either through poor circulation or other factors. my blood pressure meds have caused my hair to thin on top even more than it already was. I read somewhere that you could massage your scalp in an upwards motion from the ears/base of scalp toward the crown to try and force more blood up there. so I have been doing that for a few months and it seems to have helped somewhat. anyway, if you're taking any prescriptions, that might be something to look into.

Hair wax... I don't know what brand you got, but less is more. You'll take a little bit of product, and rub it vigorously inbetween your hands until it heats up. If it's a texture putty like Kenra's texturizing putty 13, you'll heat it up, but also "clap" your hands together afterward. You'll see it start to form little strings. Then, you can work it through pieces of hair to make them pop and separate. Prior, blowdrying upside down or using a roundbrush will provide volume. The texturizing putty is easier then slicker types. Also, some types are meant for smoothing if it's super waxy and hard. Warm it up first either way, small amounts. I hope that helps somewhat.

Are you sure it's not just "resetting"? Terminal hair goes through three phases same as the hair on the rest of the body: anagen, catogen and telogen. In my cosmetology book, it's explained this process can be a 7 year length. I mean, at a certain point, it's all going to fall out since the anagen phase restarts. It also will usually do this in patches which can look like massive hair loss if you have a lot of length. If this is the issue, there is no cure. You'll just have to wait until the new growth comes back out. There very well could be absolutely nothing wrong with your hair.
>>9815379
This is true actually. Uh, but I can't say whether your hair is breaking off or just falling out from what appears to be the root. Protein adds strength, but increases brittleness. Lipids add moisture which increases elasticity. I have seen where people overdosed their hair on protein, and it led to massive thinning near the ends to the point they thought they had to cut it off. It is more common with the increase of keratin and protein in hair products, particularly keratin.

If that's the issue, I've had people fix it before by deep conditioning their hair overnight in Nexxus Humectress for an immediate fix, and laying off the protein treatments in the long run. I had my reasons for suggesting that one, but hypothetically any moisture rich conditioner with a pH around 4.5-5.5. give or take a few. (I'd hope Nexxus hasn't change the formula.)

It could very well be, if the resetting sycle can last for over a year. I'm 21 so it could be my first aggressive one as I'm starting to be physically full grown adult? However, none of my close relatives have had hair this thin at my age, my mother lost most of hers due age but hers were a lot more thicker at my age even though she bleached them. I actually destroyed my whole hair five years ago with bleach and finally let it grow out few years ago and the damage part is long gone now. Ever since I have been more careful: I have kept heat in minimum, no up dos often, good brush and I have reduced the washing to only when needed. I use Biolage's R.A.W shampoo and conditioner, a moisturaizing spray with uv and heat protection and hair oil on my ends so nothing which would contain keratin or protein. Overall I feel those products really suit my hair and especially the shampoo and conditioner has had a good affect on both look and feel of my hair. It's definitely coming off from roots and it's honestly starting to be annoying. There is hair literally everywhere but in my head. It's equally thin from the roots to the ends.

However, I'm still battling wheter I should just get it chopped into bob. Will it look equally bad? I love braids but what do I do with braids as thick as my middle finger anyway and I will probably get used to wigs so I can still have longer hair sometimes. Hairpieces also excist, which will probably work fine too. Well, I guess I'm pretty done with loose hairs but it's pretty difficult to let go so if anyone has any experience with situation like this please help.

Depends what kinda look you want. If you want your hair to look better just down, for me what works best is plaiting it after I wash it, letting it dry in the plait, and when you take out the plait it should be manageable- try to ditch silicone conditioner and sulfate shampoos, and only brush when wet. I can style a few ways, but I mainly like big buns, pigtails, and if I'm feeling especially corny something like sailor moon hair.. its actually pretty good on curly hair. A middle split just down can look fairly good for lolita even I think. If you've a delicate look about you. It is easier to style when longer as the weight stops it exploding, but on the same hand make sure to trim dead ends often!

I don't currently have layers, but it seems I'm getting something of some sort on friday, as well as some shorter hair to frame my face instead of bangs. I mainly avoided triangle head once I started using the braids to dry the hair, but since my hair is also pretty long now (it'd be to my butt if it was straight) it holds its own weight down so no triangle head. Oh, I also tend to use leave in products too. If you're in the US kinky curly is meant to be good for leave in, I can't get it here and we've no really good silicone free leave ins.

I haven't actually had pyramid head in a long time... sorry I'm not more helpful there either. I think it really stopped once I understood how to look after my hair, not using so much shampoo and so forth. I might post an update on how the haircut goes on friday and give a status report on how the layers went.. but also I might forget, sorry!

By the sound of it you do want to have it done professionally, yes? That's good, cause at home bleaching usually turns into a disaster.
The stylist is correct, your hair probably needs to be bleached 2 to 3 times depending on how light you want your pinky brown to be.
Your hair will be fried, your scalp will also not thank you for the damage. You may even develope scabs on your scalp if it's sensitive.
Kerastase keratin treatments will go a long way though, but I can't promise that your hair won't fall out, break off, etc.
Keep in mind that you also have regrowth to consider, and that the regrowth will also have to go through the same process. Over and over and over, till you decide to go for something else.
It's a hassle, trust me. I have fast growing hair and if I go a lot lighter the regrowth looks like shit.
Personally, I advise you not to do it desu. Keep your pretty black hair healthy.
Perhaps a high quality Korean wig in the same colour is a better option?

Thanks for the warnings anon, I'm actually still really back and forth about it decision-wise.

I want to do something different with my hair and it's thinned out a little bit from losing a bunch of weight so I figured a lighter hair color would help with hiding the thinned out spots on my head, plus I really love the pinky-brown colors like pic related. Also, it is always scariest the first few days after a dramatic haircut. Give yourself time to get a feel for it. My hair always looked worst to me after it was styled by a stylist.

Has anyone here used/uses LUSH hair products? I've been trying to get that voluminous, soft, bouncy look in my hair for ages and I'm finally ready to splurge to get that look since nothing else has given me anything more than average results. There's nothing wrong with my actual routine to make it so lackluster btw - The only heat I use on my hair is lightly blow drying it, I do not dye my hair, I only wash hair every 2-3 days, and I lightly shampoo the scalp and condition the rest of it for at least 3 minutes.

I was looking into Lush Big Shampoo, but the main ingredient is sea salt. I am super in love with how both my hair and skin looks when I vacation down the shore and swim daily, but I'm not sure if this much sea salt would be damaging in the long run.

I was also looking into their American Cream conditioner.

I heard keratin/protein masks are good, but I'm not sure which one is the best. Do you have any recommendations for this?

Thanks for any input!

I personally just dye/lighten my hair, haha. I didn't realize I had such greasy hair until I stopped dying it in university. (I haven't had my natural hair color in like 10 years lol)

I get mine lightened at a salon with peroxide, since my hair dresser said it's not as damaging as bleach. I use to have to shower every day and now it's once every 3 days.

I dye my hair a light shade of blonde and it works well with all the fashions I wear. I wear lolita, otome, goth, and business professional for work. I think blonde is versatile. Darker blonde colors and light browns look beautiful in larme and lolita and I don't think you can go wrong. Maybe look up some charts to make sure it works with your skin tone and try it out. Start as a darker shade of blonde and work your way up slowly. Also tone accordingly to get your desired color.

I have a question about blow drying bangs since I'm not sure which is the best way to do it so that the bangs stay very straight.

At the moment I've been drying it from the tops and brushing the bangs quickly for side to side which seems to be ok but not the best since my sidepieces get all weird (the right side flips outwards while the left side flicks inwards toward my face...). Should I keep doing this or start using a round brush with the dryer or should I hold the dryer down from the top and just brush it downwards constantly?

My dilemma is that the bangs always seem to just sliiightly like, sort of warp(?) to one side and it looks weird when I take a pic with a rear camera or maybe it's because I'm not used to it but either way it still does the weird slight warp thing even if i straighten it. Thanks!

If you want them to be super straight and sit right, you need to have something pulling them straight and also in the direction you want then to sit while you dry them. Brushing and blow drying from above won't always give you enough control, as you are clearly finding. I use a paddle brush under my bangs so that I can see where the strands are sitting, and blow dry both sides downwards and towards the middle initially, then take the whole lot over a round brush and blow dry it out at 90 degrees so that it isn't super flat. My hair is naturally very straight, so you may also need to hold the ends between your fingers to get it dead straight as you dry it and then touch it up with a straightener. I only brush over the top of it right at the end, after it's cooled and basically sitting where I want it already

Aussie 3 min miracle is good, they have a protein free deep conditioner as well as a protein treatment reconstructor. I've heard aphogee is good but never tried it myself. Don't get carried away and end up with protein overload.

Sea salt wise, you're probably better off using salt spray with conditioning products in it if you find that you like the effect it has on your hair. The main effect is that it can be too drying for some people.

In terms of lolita, should I bother doing unnatural dye? I'm finally in a spot with my work where I could do it easily now, but it seems like lolita actually values natural hair colors the most and more Larme-style looks are in. I hope this is still hair related, apologies if there's a wig thread and I missed it.

I recently bought a synthetic lacefront wig so I could grow my destroyed hair out underneath for a while. I have a 8head and beyond so I planned to cut blunt bangs into the lacefront.

So, there's no reason I will need the lace, right? I can just cut it out?

How does the lace actually work in lacefronts? I watched some youtubes and I've noticed they cut the lace til it's almost non-existent -- so what is the point of it? I thought the lace glues onto the skin but none of these youtubers seem to do that, so was I just misinformed?

Pic related is the wig I got; it's actually a lot nicer than I was anticipating from a synthetic wig. It's by "K'ryssma"?

I bought a couple others too, including a "Forever Young" brand one, and it's garbage in contrast (the websites I read said 'forever young' is a high quality brand, but the wig is way shorter than images show it and very thin - the cap shows through in multiple spots...). So I'm really hoping to do good with the lacefront.

Is heat really that bad for hair? If I don't blow dry it I look like Hagrid

>> No.9864047

>>9863942
Short answer: yes

Long answer: when you heat things up, more things happen. Heating up the hair provides energy to the molecules inside of the hair follicle. This energy makes it easier to break/reform bonds they otherwise wouldn’t form; hence why I’m assuming your hair gets straighter/more manageable when you blow-dry. Unfortunately, you can’t pick and choose where the energy goes in your follicle: so while some bonds need the heat to reform, others are sensitive to the excess energy and are irreparably damaged/destroyed. Over time, this weakens the hair and affects things like moisture retention and manageability.

In your case, at /least/ use a heat protectant if you aren’t already. Beyond that, your hair might be lacking in (internal) moisture. Make sure you’re using a conditioner that’s actually good for your hair health (I’m not a fan of silicones, it’s usually just a cheap additive and not actually aiding your hair). I use SheaMoisture at the moment. It’s inexpensive for the good shit you get out of it.

There's travel sized ones, maybe keep it in your purse? Ans surely you're not at important meetings and stuff all hours of the day that you couldn't take a trip to the bathroom to touch up your bangs.

I wash my hair every 1-3 days but my bangs always need maintenance when I get ready for the day, and dry shampoo 100% solves the problem. My personal favorite was Klorane, I've tried several but most do just fine if you're unsure which one to buy. Only ones I didn't like were Dove's and one from Drybar in a light blue can that did a good job but was so scented it made me nauseous.

If you've got dark hair though be sure to research which ones don't cause white cast. My hair is light blonde and I'm mega pale so that doesn't really matter to me.

Heaps of the larme styles seem to fit with curls. I'm guessing like most people with curls you tend to poof rather than having your curls look well defined in the same way that heat-styled curls do, and that's what throws you off. Try braids or half-up styles if it is hard to manage out.

the easiest way would probably be to section the piece of hair you want to braid away, and then form the bun. Then you just braid the loose section and pin it in.

based on your drawing, you probably want something like a dutch/french braid though. so for that I would french/dutch braid (whichever you want, dutch if you want the braid defined and french if you want it to be more subtle) the hair to the back of the head, and then pin it while you form the loose ends into the bun you're making.

it's up to you and your level of skill! if you practice it just a few times i'm sure you'll get the result you want.

I think it would look cute if you just diffused or air-dried the bulk, but took a straightener through the fringe. The combination of straight with super curly is definitely present in j-fashion. I'll post an example or two, but it is hard to find Japanese examples. They usually have to use a curling iron to get curly hair, and it's never quite the same compared to natural. I picked the messiest example I could easily find. If you have trouble getting it to hold... it's really expensive, but it is heaven-sent concerning hold and smoothing power: try Oribe's Royal Blowout spray on the fringe, and use a super huge round-brush. (I'm talking maybe a 4-inch round brush.) Often, that will make it hold without the need to even use a flat iron, but you could still use the iron to get that pin-straight effect. It wouldn't require the amount of effort it would take to blow-out your whole head.

You mention a weird texture, is this perhaps because you find a combination of different types of hairs on your head? many thin fine ones, but also mixed in coarser stranger ones? I had thinnish strange hair, always, sort of wavy but not really....turns out female hair loss is a serious problem in my family line that nobody is willing to talk about, and by the time I was 19 it was already thinning, all over. I chalked it up to 'bad hair' 'ugly hair', and also considered things like extensions, wigs, elaborate hair styles and products to conceal how little hair there was.

Use rogaine if you can afford it and just don't let anyone know. I know it sounds awful, seems like a man product or old person thing, but it sure works.

I dont have a good picture guide, but for me what really did the trick was understanding how an actual braid really works. once i understood that it was merely a matter of becoming dextrous enough to be able to pick up hair while keeping the braid tight.

a braid is essentialy two twists, twisted into each other, right? you have strand a, b and c. you twist a+b into a twist, then a+c into the second twist, then you go back to the first twist, etc. so just keeping track of where you are in your braiding and when to pick up hair on what side is key.
