You could probably pick any significant date to replace his birthday with -- the anniversary of his show, anniversary of his debut on his show, mythical date of something important that happened on the show, or pick something related. I do Enma Ai's birthday on Halloween, for eg.

Hard to give advice when I'm not sure what you're even going for. Is it just a straight up lolita bag? If so, well you've got lolita stuff. What more advice could you possibly need?

Any sort of rigid card sleeve is recommended to keep cards from bending. If you want to use soft sleeves, back them with something sturdy. Aegislash anon, I'd definitely put that lovely full art you've got in a hard sleeve though.

>>9780529
It's itabag anon, one word and right in the op. Unless you were trying to pun on the lolita ita, in which case forgive my ignorance.

What direction are you going for with this? What's your theme? I'm getting vibes for a general lolita bag, but it also seems like you might be trying for something more cheeky/sarcastic? If it's the former, the salt and rosette pins seem really unfitting.

In terms of general advice, take the ballchain and weird strap thing off of those mascots, and pin them by their jump ring or just through them directly. Some backing fabric will also help it feel less empty until you get more pieces.
Overall, this seems like a really half-assed start--you don't seem to have put any thought into arranging what you have nicely. The photo would make for a great centerpiece, so why'd you shove it off to the side? Remember that itabags are basically portable shrines to a thing, and good shrines aren't made of random things just tossed on them.

>> No.9780555

>>9780529
Well it's not an itabag so I'm not sure what advice to give? It's hard to tell what you're trying to do, and the pins are in such random places it looks like you were using them to try fill huge empty space. Is it meant to be a general lolita bag? Maybe it would be better to focus on a brando.

I’ve been a similar situation before, so sorry for the long post!
First, for non-official stuff, I think some metallic sword and shield charms could be really cute if you could find them! I also think a pale yellow backing would help bring out the gold in its design. You can also make your own pieces with official art, sprites, or screencaps of its anime appearances, though sprites might be hard for aegi since it was introduces as they were phased out for models. There’s also always fanmerch—have you checked storenvy, etsy and tictail? Redbubble also sometimes has some nice big stickers that you can turn into pins, just make sure you do something about the white space on them.
For official stuff, every pokemon out now has a small (like ~1-1.5cm) metal charm, and they’re sold in sets by evolution line. I checked the jp pokecenter site and it’s is sold out, thankfully suruga-ya has it! I also found a keychain on otamart that looks like it was a capsule prize. There’s also pan and wafer seals, which are the things along the top of my pic. There about 2x2” and you can slide them into card sleeves to cover the text part of the cards nicely! The pan seals are the ones with the plain white backing, and they look a lot nicer if you trim them or do something to minimize the white. Lastly, there have been these collectible tokens that have been made to use with arcade games which you could easily just glue a pin to. Aegi has a handful for the first one that was called pokemon treta, and a couple are pictured on the right. As you can see though, their border colors don’t always match the pokemon exactly. I don’t have any of the treta tokens, but I’m guessing they’re about the same size as the seals based on the ones I do have.
I just slapped the links of what I found here in a pastebin so I won’t upset the small filter. If you want to do any more hunting, it’s Japanese name is ギルガルド ! https://pastebin.com/D5gtrP1H

Apologies, I should have been more specific. It is a general Lolita themed bag. I was not sure if it counted as an itabag since it is not a specific character or Fandom. This is my first bag so I was looking for advice on placement and objects. Truthfully this is all stuff that is Lolita related or made by Lolitas. I will put the postcard in center and add the jump rings. I do need to get more things to fill it out and was asking if I was headed in the right direction. The bag is much larger than I expected. Thanks for the advice!

Any thoughts/tips on making an itagbag for a character whose appearance changes over the course of canon? The character in question is Phos from Houseki no Kuni--by the current point in the manga, Phos looks nothing like their original self. While most of the official merch is of Phos' original appearance, a lot of fan merch has their various versions. I haven't decided yet if it's a good idea for me to stick to their original appearance or not. People who know the series well (and read the manga) will know that they're the same character, but I worry about it looking chaotic from an aesthetic point of view.

You could always do a "progression" theme in your bag? From early design to current. I'm not familiar with the character, apologies on if that wouldn't work. If it's just two seperate designs, you can always do two different bags!

>> No.9780697

If you wanted to cash in on the hype by calling your glorified novelty purses itabags then at least come out and admit it from the start.

Look you put them side by side, you know which one is more pleasant to look at. Part of itabagging and why shitabags are called shitabags is a certain skill or lack there of in making merch look nice. You can be stunned by mountains of haphazard merch, rows of dupes, or arrangement of badges and the key feature is still there — it looks nice and you want to keep looking at it. Steel Panther bag qualifies as an itabag but it’s still ugly. Versailles bag or whatever idk the series is even simpler but hey at least it’s pretty.

I don't think anyone has posted it recently or consider all that impressive anyways, so I'm not sure why it's being posted as a comparison.

Everyone always forgets, but the oscar bag also has lights inside (back when it wasn't a common trend). The combination of these things made it a nice bag at the time. Standards have changed since then, so opinions about it probably have too.

The bottom line is, the band bag in question doesn't seem well crafted and doesn't meet today's standards- and that's the problem people have with it.

I would move up the two outer charms on the second row from the top, since there's a bit of space above them. It would give space to move up the ones below them which are half hidden (which is really unpleasant to look at).
I also find it a bit strange to have the three smaller badges grouped together at the bottom, it's jarring. You could separate the two top ones, maybe put one on each side since they both have an individual character.

Otherwise, as >>9783240 said, a coloured insert would be nice. You've got a lot of yellow in there, so something to contrast with that would be a shade of purple. Try out different shades with more or less red in them. It should be a fairly soft shade in any case, since the yellows are pretty pastel.

Personally, I would go with either a lot of fake yellow flowers in the bg or a solid bright red insert to match the human soul. I suggest using an xacto knife to cut the washi tape on the clear charms because those torn edges look sloppy. Maybe you can alternate between yellow and green tape for stripes.

Anyway anon I am jealous and in love with your Charasriel merch! I love that ship the most but didn't know where to find them, so I ended up including Frisk for the surplus of matching/mirrored art with Chara. I still need to fix my own bag up but I got really excited to see a fellow Undertale itabagger with these kids so I'm dropping a pic to also scream SAME HAT.

Not even bait. I think I saw three decent bags and the rest (10+) were absolute shit. Lots of huge ones with lots of space mostly, when the person could just get a smaller one and fill that one up properly. And even the good ones were mostly repeats of either the same pins or of the same three different pins.

I don't see how that's baity. Other than calling you weebs I'm literally saying the western comm (or at least the/ cgl/ comm) has better taste and higher standards.

Reread your post, the way it's written is definitely bait, especially after your clarification now.

There are shitabags no matter where you go, and I'm sure the regulars here know it. To dump from JP itabag pics, you still have to sift through the same shit you do if you scroll through the western itabags.

Why do you make it seem like bags that use a lot of repeats are "lesser"? As long as the bag looks good, it looks good.

Of course CGL has higher standards, it's a smaller community and people don't hold back if your bag is bad.

Ah, you're right. I was drunk while I posted that so I apologize for sounding like that. Anyway - as I said, I'm not much into the cosplay and anime part of this board and only visit these threads occasionally because I really like how some of these bags look, but from what i gathered the people here were similar to the ones on the lolita part of the board - holding their Asian counterpart as higher when in truth and on average they're not that much better.

>Why do you make it seem like bags that use a lot of repeats are "lesser"?
I don't, and I've seen anons explaining why there's nothing wrong with those, but from where I stood it seemed like people here thought they were lazy. And desu the ones i saw irl kinda were since they were all of well-known characters that had a lot of merch to choose from. But as you said, they looked good so I can't complain much.

Kinda blogpost-y, but reading now I kinda wish I visited these threads more before. There's one character I'd love to make a bag for and I can find all the shit I need here but I haven't been into it enough to make anything interesting.

Wasn't there another music/band itabagger here?

I'm making a Gorillaz bag and they seriously suck at making merch. These pins and some stickers are the only current thing available, and everywhere else I just find unofficial badges and pins (and then I can make them myself for less).
It sucks since Jamie Hewlett makes such amazing artwork for the band, and I would throw so much money at them if they made more merch.

I'm currently thinking about putting in album covers and official postcards in the bag, and then make som badges and add the pins and stickers. Have anyone used unconventional items for your bags? You can literally buy the pins yourself and some of them go for as cheap as 200 yen on Nakano Broadway, with most regular ones being priced at 400-600 yen.

So let's say you're making something like >>9785006 and make all rows similar to the bottom ones - 7 pins horizontally multiplied by 5 rows. That's 35 pins. Let's say each is 400 yen. That's 14,000 yen on pins, then maybe another 5,000 for the bag.

Throw another 1,000 yen for the train fare and that's 20k. Which isn't cheap, but isn't a huge amount of money either. And with the added possibility of getting the gacha yourself and trading instead of buying, you spend 300 yen on the machine and trade it for the pin that's going for 500 yen at the store, which adds up with time.

It's so much easier it's hard to believe so many of them are boring.

I'm almost ready; I'm making a shadow box for my shrine and was trying to find heart table scatter for it but after going to 3 stores I couldn't find any. I'll try again tomorrow but hopefully I can also find some heart doilies for my truffles/strawberries.
Besides that the weather is kind of being a little bitch but I'm going to try the beach anyways.

Had a blast putting together a birthday shrine for my boy Christophe

>> No.9786686

Ok, I might get a stream of hate for this and I'm prepared for it.

The 'Valentines Day' shrine thing... that is cringey as fuck, right? I'm not the only one who thinks it's creepy to light candles and prepare a cake for an anime character? Like, fuck man, I love anime and video games too, and I love itabags, but I have seen plenty of people mocking dudes for doing the shrine/fake date shit with 'waifus' and this is the exact same thing.

For awhile I legit thought it must be people joking but it's finally sunken in that this is a real thing.

Since when did anyone in this thread mock dudes for making shrines? I’ll admit it seems cringey at first glance but really it’s just something fun to do and an excuse to bake or buy sweets for a character who means a lot. Same as when it’s their birthday. Probably some people do it who are THAT into their fictional waifus but what’s the harm if they’re doing it in their own homes?

Not doing something because it's "cringey" is stupid. The second you stop caring about what no one in particular will think of you, life becomes much more enjoyable. What's so wrong with doing something fun and harmless in the comfort of your own private space?

It depends on the person doing it. Most people have lives and just do the shrine for fun.

But then theres the crazy ass fujoshi/otaku who really want to give their virginity to the character. It's important to know that this is very very few people. So while it's cringy, it's mostly harmless fun.
