Any advice on a better insert fabric? This gengar one I'm using is way too stretchy and droops, kinda feels like too much purple too. Maybe I should try a red insert?

Summary. Betty bought an itabag and a huge haul for her daughter, she'd never watched the show but her kid loved it. Her original post to the group made it extremely clear the bag was for the girl. She let's the kid wear the bag once then takes it off her as her own, claiming the bag was hers all along and she never intended for the daughter to have it. She got called out by someone and it spiralled into a shit storm of betty bullshitting and digging a huge grave for herself, all the time other people quoting her previous posts with her stating it was for her daughter. Prior thread someone said that's why a lot of the Japanese itabags are full of repeat badges, like >>9774355. Part of it is not just you going "I'm a fan and this is my husbando, see how much I love him“, it's also saying "look, I throw money at official merch so that the *producers* know it's profitable and continue making more of it". If the official source only gets the money you pay for one set of badges and you’re spending the rest on fan artists that they don’t make money from, they might cut their losses and cancel it, then you won’t have a second season or another game or whatever it was.

That's why it's important that you buy whatever limited official merch there is, and buy a lot of it -- your itabag filled with many of that one single official pin is indirectly saying you're doing your part giving money to the show to have another season on air/a sequel/etc, so all lesser fans not spending money on official merch that encourages the producers to keep the show/game/comic on air/in print are, well, lesser fans.

Really though, it's not a competition and I'm not encouraging any "spendier-than-thou" attitude, it's just something someone else explained in a prior thread that makes sense for why the Japanese bags seem to like showing off bags with many repeat official merch. Personally, I'd love to have tons of limited merch of my husbando available ! Unfortunately, he's from a 10-years old game, and while it is part of a very famous series and he has made appearances in other games, he keeps getting passed over for itabag-able merch, so all he has to show for it is :

- 1 rubber strap
- 1 metal pin from a series that came out at the same time as the game
- a few trading cards, one being an exclusive only handed at a few cons.
- a badge from a cafe event last year (had I known about personal shoppers at the time, I would have sent someone, unfortunately I did not)

All this has been sold out at official sources for ages (except maybe the cards, okay, but I have an astronomically low chance of getting him if I buy a pack instead of buying individually, and it would support the entire series, not that specific game) and I had to get it all secondhand, so no money went to the producers anyways. So I found the one piece of fanmerch available on Etsy, I commissioned badges and pins, I used the official manga and doujins (all of which I own copies of) and pixel art of the games to make badges and keychains and pins, and so on. I even made a plush of my husbando in the style of the official plushes. Am I a lesser fan for this ? Is my bag lesser for this ? Yet it was posted in the itabag threads when it was way less advanced than it is today, and praised every time.

Personally, in my own opinion, I think shipping a ton of pins is a waste of money, the shipping generally costs as much as the pins themselves. I'm probably the person you're referring to. I had two bags that were affected. Luckily neither were finished but it's still a pain to deal with. I followed an anon's advice to avoid Goo Gone and tried to research other options.

One suggestion was using peanut butter and it actually seemed to work pretty well with the rubber keychains, although the entire process was a pain in the ass. PB takes forever to rinse off and there's residue from the peanut oil, so I took dish soap and a toothbrush and scrubbed. Some pb was left in tiny nooks and crannies so I tried wood glue and it worked.

Five acrylic keychains were also affected. One of them wasn't bad and was fairly easy to clean, but as for the other four I'm still having a difficult time after the peanut butter trick...

As for the bags themselves, both have some melted glue dots on the window. One was a cheap AmiAmi bag (just like >>9776682 but blue) so I decided to try to put it in the wash with some vinegar on gentle cycle, but it didn't remove the residue. I'm not sure what to try at this point...

tl;dr Don't use glue dots on your itabags.

I don’t have disposable income that’s why I save and budget like crazy, it took me a year to put my ita bag together, I bought a couple of items a month and you know what? It makes me feel ten times better knowing that I’m supporting the creators, businesses and also the resellers I’m and out of Japan that have gone out their way to get official merch and Japanese exclusives to sell on to westerners. As an artist it pisses me off that people are so entitled that they think they can take someone else’s likeness and use it for their own gain. Not everything is an all-inclusive buffet, pay your way and support the creators or gtfo!

My two finished bags took me over a year collecting mech for each. One is popular and her merch don't show up as often, and the other girl I saved up cash and bought merch in Tokyo for instead of shipping it. I almost got all the merch for two new bags in Japan as well, and my friend is living there now and can ship stuff for me.

I for one like the time consuming part of finding merch. I don't do dupes because my characters have enough merch, but the collecting proccess I love.

I have five Naruto bags so when people are saying they can’t find merch for it so they opt for bootleg, they’re clearly not even looking.
