Whatever happened to Yaoi Paddles? How did they ever even take off?

>> No.9763073

>>9763056
Ah man, I don't think I've seen someone carrying a yaoi paddle in nearly a decade.
I started going to cons in 2007 and by that time, they seemed to be extremely popular and I just never really questioned it. Haven't even thought about them in years and now I'm pretty curious what happened to them, too. Maybe the autistic fujoshits just grew out of em?

>> No.9763085

Widely banned from conventions because they were mostly used to assault bishonens. Practically the same as hitting someone in the ass with a baseball bat.

>be bishonen
>cosplaying bishonen schoolboy
>someone hits me in the ass hard with a paddle
>its a group of not one but THREE fujoshits, two have paddles
>all with masks on because theyre ugly
>second girl in group with paddle asks if she can hit me too
>they all cackle as if its funny
>walk up to the "leader", yank paddle out of her hands forcibly
>"apologize or im keeping it."
>the no paddle girl says "you can't STEAL that from her."

I did end up getting her to apologize once she realized con staff would take it away, but I didn't want to totally ruin her convention just because her autism got the better of her. The same group approached me later at the con to try chatting me up, under some bizarre assumption that I wanted anything to do with underage fujoshits who hit me in the ass with the equivalent of a bat.

>>9763304
>>9763308
"Free hugs" signs were being used for solicitation. For some conventions, it was police issuing the ban instead of convention staff.
Also, people would get verbally aggressive when offering hugs if they were declined, and hug people without asking. Cons just didn't want to deal with it because it's pretty silly to dedicate security or a staffer to watching over someone offering free hugs just to make sure they aren't being aggressive.

>> No.9763327

I asked some mexican dude from another thread about the free hugs. Apparently, parents there got paranoid about creeps using those signs to touch kids, so some events banned those signs. I'm glad I was never around for Yaoi paddles, though, that sounds so fucking dumb.

Frats/sororities sometimes have them, I guess it's a reference to hazing? Not sure if it's just a joke or if they're actually used. I wasn't part of the greek system but my college had a ton if it, so I would see them around. They usually paint or put wooden Greek letters on them.

>> No.9766093

>>9765952
Speaking from experience, you're less likely to get harassed by fangirls and more likely to be aggressively sexually assaulted by older homosexual men ghosting the convention. They'll think you're a twink, and are only there to cruise for underage boys. They may or may not try to drug you, or follow you into elevators as a group to tell you about how much they'd like to rape you. Maybe you're into that kind of thing too though. I'd say of all the harassment you get, maybe one out of four will be a fangirl and the rest will be old dudes.

Also, fujoshits don't tend to be people you'd even want to keep company with. Don't think they grow out of their autism either, they'll be just as pimply faced and even more overweight in their late 20's. Once they evolve however, they'll walk around drunkenly and look at you right in the eyes while announcing how they're on their way to the yaoi panel because they "love staring at young boys dicks".

Life ain't easy when you're a bishie.

I think the free hugs one is okay because you’re not actively attacking someone.
