In any case, it makes no sense to try to turn this edgy gothic look of the dress and overskirt into some vintage inspired coord. Inspo should be really good examples of coords, not necessarily perfect ones, but it's a complete flop.

Well, you have to pic colors that go in the first place. I'd say gold would be a good color to add in for misty sky in navy. If she had gone for a darker more subtle red it probably wouldn't look great but it would have ended up better than this did.

Adding in colors with motifs that match is also a way to do it. But instead she used a random heart bag in a color that doesn't go with it. Heart bags themselves are fine to add in but you have to make sure the color actually goes with your main piece.

There's a lot of ways to add in a color, this was just badly done. If I'm remembering correctly this was a fandom coord and I think she lost sight of making the coord cohesive in favor of pandering.

Mainly I'm shocked you think that gold and navy would look better than burgundy or dark red and navy, which is already a very common color combo. Even normal red and navy are a common color combo for just dresses alone. If she replicated that entire coord exactly but with gold instead it would look awful.
Gold is meant to be mostly an accent color, which is why there are already gold accents on the head bow and bag. You could probably work in gold shoes somehow, but adding as much gold as there already is red wouldn't work.

Are you not a sweet lolita? Because it's fairly common to coord navy with gold. Mercator antique shop, holy theater, khronos utopia, hell crystal dream carnival. These are all examples of sweet dresses you see coorded with gold.

And from personal experience, I did a misty sky coord that had a lot of gold in it that was pretty well received.

Redxgold is a classic colour combination anon and I like the way it works here, it feels much less shoehorned than in the hundreds of Japanese coords which have a red bag and shoes with nothing else because the Japanese treat red as a neutral that matches everything. Last time I saw Misty Sky with gold I didn't like it, tried to post a pic but I'm getting upload failed errors all the time.

/r/ing spring coords with darker legwear
I've only worn lolita in autumn/winter. I'd like to branch out a bit and wear some lighter coloured dresses during the warmer months but I really dislike wearing white/off white leg wear. I haven't had a lot of practice coording yet so would love to see some examples.

Its not a really super grand reason behind it, though. When I saw it I grew really attracted and in love with how it looks and I can't exactly explain why. I kind of assumed it was because of the color or how it was put together, or just the feeling of simplicity with it. I'm not super sure, but it caught my eye and made me love it a lot.
