So... I recently took the plunge and bought a base bag from Wego using BuySmartJapan. I'm really new to buying from overseas, and I watched the bag get to customs in LA, but I just checked again and it said it had been RETURNED from customs.

So... what should I do now? I'm assuming it's en route back to Japan now, and the BSJ order confirmation email just says "If package was returned to Japan, we can repeat the shipping procedure upon your request. Please be warned that such costs must be covered by customers." Should I wait for them to contact me about the returned order or is there something I can do now?

Sorry for the newbie question but I've just started buying from overseas and I've never had this problem. I'm pretty annoyed about the prospect of having to pay another $30 for shipping a single bag back to get rejected again.

Has anyone ITT done a love live bag with more than one girl? If so, how did you go about separating the two? I was planning to do a bag for both my best girls and originally I was thinking of doing a double-sided tote, but I'm wondering if it would look better if I just went with a single-sided tote and mirrored the merch to the best of my ability. The one downfall is that one is from Muse and one is from Aqours, so I wouldn't be able to match the merch perfectly.

Their color schemes were definitely my first thought. It's Hanayo and Hanamaru, so the colors are pretty close (like a yellow-green and yellow). I was thinking I could either get away with a yellow-green bag or use a white bag and make an insert that's the colors split down the middle.

Yeah, buying official merch definitely isn't more expensive than fan merch, especially if you can find people to do box splits with. If you can find lots or listings with a bunch of things, that's also very easy, too. I spent about $70USD on the merch for my itabag, for about 30 pieces of merch, and that included shipping and middleman fees because I shopped smart. There's no way you could spend under $2.50 per piece of fan merch.

Yes, specific keychains or goods can run high, but if you're willing to buy lots that have multiple things in them, even if they aren't your HG pieces of merch, you can definitely fill up space in your bag to surround one or two more expensive pieces without breaking the bank.

Anyone have experience using thicker foam for their inserts? Like, 1/2 inch or thicker?

I just got my WEGO base bag and it's nice, the insert is handy, but it's a good inch and a half or so from the window and my merch is all flat so it looks way dark. I was thinking of getting one of those cheap half-inch chair pads from Joann or somewhere and putting a lighter fabric on it.

Mostly just wondering if hot glue will still work and if it still pins alright, since it's too thick to pin through entirely.

What I did was take in the top edge of the deep pocket with some safety pins so that the clear window itself is at a bit of an angle. I'm thinking of going a similar route that you did and filling all the empty space with a custom pillow/cushion thing. That would let me carve out little 'cubbies' for plushies and figurines that I currently just have sticking out 2 inches in front of all of the other flat merch.

My Tsukiuta itabag finally came in so I quickly put together my Izuku merch! I used the backboard the bag came with and sewed the merch down with fabric i had picked out, Im not super happy with it over using the foam I used for my other bag but it’ll work for now.

Overall it’s a cute bag, the pearl/metalic color threw me by surprise though because the display image was an illustration of the bag rather than an actual image. I wish the color was matte like i thought it’d be but it’s not a dealbreaker, I’m definitely wanting the yellow version for a (Sm)all Might collection. Though the straps were very confusing because they came detached and theres so many d-rings but I think i got them into a workable position?

And don’t worry, the plush on the side is just for the picture! I wont be putting him on the bag until i get a cover for him haha

Now there's more than enough for him, but I imagine there's a shortage of Hog stuff because he isn't the most popular. I think people it consider it lazy moreso with official merch because a lot of times when it's a FOTM or popular anime, merch is so easy to come by.

I prefer ones with overlapping multiples, if that makes sense. I'm one of the Alphonse Elric anons, and I struggle to visually unite stuff from across the decade of merch that exists for him. It helps a ton to have several of the newer large buttons to give the look unity, imo. But it's really up to taste and arrangement, I think the only boring effect of multiples is a straight grid of them on a solid background without other personalization.

On a related note, does anyone have any favorite ways to customize rubber straps? Acrylics are easy to give backgrounds to with some washi tape or scrapbook paper, but those don't stick as well to rubber and they don't sit nicely in the center of a rosette either.

Thanks for the idea. What I ended up going with is a flat folded down ribbon, like the bit that hangs down off a rosette. That way it doesnt get in the way, it accents the piece without having to stick to it or fit its shape!

I actually really like the stacked look. As other anon said, there seems to be the idea of having multiples being a 'waste' in western communities (when really, to the majority of people outside the hobby, any kind of itabag is a 'waste').

I'm entertaining a junker bag since I main each of them in their respective roles, but i've found I don't like a lot of the fanmerch - they're often too cutesy or poorly stylized into chibis.

I have a general TAZ bag, and I think that as long as your pieces are like... At all legible it'll be fine.

I feel like the bag and outside decoration could have been okay on this one since I think tacky fits Taako, but she just couldn't pull together a very good arrangement for the inside. I know no merch is hard, but it's not cohesive at all rn.
