This is the only hair thread so I suppose we can treat it as the general--

Best way to promote hair growth? I cut my hair into a pixie a few months ago and I'm full of regret. It's still pretty short, so I want some tips for growing it out.

oil it up
for whatever reason my hair refused to grow more after reaching more less bra strap even though years ago it used to reach my hips. I endend up buying a mix of oils for hair (castor, nettle, fennel seed, ginger and four other I can't remember right now), used it once or twice a week and it worked like magic. After months of stagnation, it finally hit my hips within like two months.
Thogh remember that there are no universal methods, maybe it will do nothing or maybe it will work even better for you. Search around and try different things.

Maybe, I read somewhere that asian hair is typically a rounder thicker follicle however with less hair per square inch, I mean that has got to help keep a sense of fullness without getting tangled. I wonder what specific hair products are good for that. I hear they may use a sort of hair wax lightly on the tips to keep its shape?

Oh anon you have my deepest condolences.
if you really hate it why not get a good wig until yours grows out? That way you can leave it alone and not have to style it and or damage it while it grows out and still get the look you want right now.

Just out of curiousity, why did you do it and why do you regret it?

Oh dear, sweet anon..

Gotta recommend this stuff. I have naturally curly, currently bleached hair and like to spray it with water throughout the day to keep the curls smooth. Picked up a bottle of this stuff on clearance and it makes my hair BABY soft.. To the point where, unfortunately, it won't hold curls at all.
Not really what I wanted, but I'm sure someone else will get use out of it.

I am in hairdressing.

First of all massage your scalp with the conditioner. This promotes blood circulation. Blood is full of nutirents for the scalp. Healthy soil produces a healthy garden.

Eat a balanced diet. Getting your correct nutirents are great for hairgrowth. If you look at people qho are healthy and people with eating disorders you will notice the ed victims will most likely have brittle hair. Nutrients come from food.

Have a healthy hair ragime. Use quality products, air dry when you can and use a heat protecter (ussually also handy to protect from the suns damage as well).

These are the best things you can do.

Unfortunatly its because of the hairtype.
Hair comes in 3 types.
African (super curly)
Europeon (wavy)
Asion (straight)

This is determined by the direction of the papilla. The straighter the papilla is to the direction of hairgrowth the straighter the hair.

it's not so much the shape of the hair, but the actual structure of the hair. asian hair grows from a round cuticle perpendicular to the scalp, and the strands themselves are much more dense than caucasian hair so it's typically very resistant to holding any shape other than what it naturally grows as.

caucasian hair, like any other ethnicity, comes in a variety of forms. it all depends on the cuticle to cortex ratio, but the products you use are a big factor as well.

>> No.9737312

>>9737260
Exactly. I think it's important to point out it is on Asians that you also will see the 'glassy' cuticle sometimes. Not all Asians have it, but unique to them is an extremely tight cuticle that gets its name from the appearance of glass. It makes dye less likely to lift and means you have to use a light perm solution to blow out the cuticle if you ever want to dread it.
>>9721079
For anyone who was confused by this, 'coarse' actually refers to the diameter of the individual hair strand, not the feel of the cuticle. More then a few Caucasian people and a lot of black people have 'fine' hair instead of 'coarse'. The individual hair strands are very small, and that makes it more prone to frizz, breakage, and the effects of 'hat hair'.
>>9736138
Huh, I'll look into it. Not that anon, but there shouldn't be. The only product I can think of that causes major reactions is leave-in lightener. The Sun In lighteners and stuff.
>>9736224
Mine is a bit like yours albeit mine takes the shape of however it drys. When it's short, it's straight, but when it's long it likes to get a wave where it dries on my shoulders. I use a straightener though. Takes like 15 minutes to fix it unless I fell asleep on it wet.

>> No.9737318

>>9736997
Oh god, it'd be easier if I could show you. I'm doing it right now. Uh, okay, twist the hair like in step four, but keep twisting. For step 5, as your twisting, make sure your wrist is loose enough to follow the 'pull/flow' of the hair. You realize as you twist it past a certain point, it will naturally dip down, invert, and twist under into a little ball looking thing seen in 6. That's when you'll pin it.

I really hope that helps. Just try it, keep twisting, you'll feel what it does at a certain point. It's the best way I could explain it.

Also, I want to point out that there are some who have that super shiny, super straight appearance. Please understand a lot though have hair more on par with this picture. There's a lot who do use a straightener to get that super straight look. It's straight, but not perfect.

Just like white people with naturally straight hair have to use a straightener to get it pin straight. Just don't assume every single Asian doesn't have to use styling tools or a blow dryer to make sure their hair has that particular look.

Do any of you have experience with permanent straightening? I remember reading somehwere a method that doesn't damage your hair but I don't remember what it was, just that it was really expensive

>> No.9740926

And why do people say a steam straightener is better? sorry for noob question

>> No.9741495

>>9740892

I'm Asian and got permanent Japanese straightening done several times over the last couple years. It's hella expensive is the States, I generally go back to my home country to get it done for way cheaper at a way nicer salon with a super practiced stylist at the technique. I stopped when I started color-dying my hair, so I'm living with my natural/bleached texture now.

The Japanese straightening doesn't damage your hair, but that's because after the straightening, your stylist should go back in with a super-conditioning treatment. My stylist offered 3 levels/costs of conditioning, each using a different and more expensive imported product.

Basically, it's breaking some proteins in your hair that cause curl, aligning them with a straightener, then binding them back in that aligned position. You'd have to get it done every year or so as your new, untreated hair grows out. It also super-deflates any volume you have. Your hair feels light, but it falls heavy. If you've got a thin scalp, I recommend going the Brazilian blowout route rather than the permanent straightening. It doesn't last as long, but you get to keep a lot more body and volume all around.

Okay so in the past year or so most of my hair has fallen out and it wasn't thick to begin with. The amount of hair I currently have makes me cry sometimes, it's really so thin and depressing. It's otherwise pretty healthy and quite long which makes me even more sad because I have wanted to have this length a long time. I don't color it, I use heat only seldomly and mostly on my bangs and a year ago I got checked with doctor due to it and nothing was found. They run blood tests and everything was okay apparently. Half a year ago I started to eat healthier but it still continues to fall of. I wash it typically twice a week, I have started to avoid up dos and use "natural" shampoo and conditioner, moisturizer with uv-protection and hair oil for my ends. Is there anything else I can do? My hair is super curly, so I decided to start permanently straight the fringe, at first I went to a salon, but they were charging me way to much for the kind of treatment they were giving me, instead of straightening the hair permanently, they relaxed the curls.
So I decided to buy this kit from Wella, I used to go to the salon every week and a half, firstly because they didn't gave me the treatment I wanted, and secondly because of how curly my hair is, my fringe ended up being wavy instead of straight.
With the Wella kit, my hair ends up being super super straight and I do it once a month because my hair grows super fast too.

there are things that sometimes don't get checked with generic blood tests, I can't remember specifics atm, but especially in regards to thyroid (I had this problem). everything was coming up fine and I knew it wasn't so I kept researching and found out that usually they only test for part of it, whereas the thyroid hormones can still be really off because they don't test for the whole thing. SO, I basically asked to have it all tested and came up severely low. You might want to do something similar. Also, make sure you are taking a good multivitamin. biotin and b vitamins are especially good for hair, and for the love of god make sure you're getting enough vit D. Also, it could be inflamation and or gut heath, adding probiotics to your diet and collagen/gelatin helps. also make sure You're getting enough protein. my hair fell out so bad I thought I was going to go bald. like, every time I did so much as touched my hair, handfuls were coming out and now my hair is so think I want to cry. but after doing all the above things, it finally stopped falling out on christmas (a fucking miracle) and seems to be growing back as for now.

TLDR: do some research about ways to prevent inflammation, make sure you're getting enough protein/vitamin d/b vits, possibly even ask your doctor to check your thyroid more in depth if you have any symptoms of low thyroid (research anon)
