Old thread hit image cap and is almost at bump limit >>9601536

This thread is for ouji and aristocrat (aka "boystyle") discussion. "Boystyle" is shorthand for "boystyle lolita" and refers to the masculine counterparts of lolita and, often, aristocrat fashions. There is a lot of overlap between these styles, and different people use different terms to describe them. So, consider this a thread for those whose style is on the right half of Buttcape's Lolita Family Triangle: http://www.kawacura.com/moripress/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/0dmmLH6-350x350.jpg

This might sound dumb, but are there any “anatomy of” posts of an ouji/aristo coord? Like, a diagram of each individual piece and then what it looks like all together? I have trouble in ouji visualizing what the individual pieces look like (like, pants, shirt, etc) that are combined into a coord (I can see them separately and I can see them together, but my brain can’t seem to visualize from one to the other.)

Yes. I'm 173 cm myself. Everything with shoulder +42cm fits fine, but I think it is better to pay more attention to body/build type, as I'm slim, and like dresses most brands don't tend to have much room on bust. Boz seems fine, can't say much about AatP.

A while ago, in one of the old threads, I asked for makeup and hair advice for wearing with Ouji and people were really very helpful indeed. I've tried incorporating the advice I was given about pulling a colour up across my eyelids towards my brows, having more texture in my hair, and making sure my eyebrows are dark enough to go with both the make-up and my wig. This is my most recent attempt to go with that advice.

this is good progress. i like what i can see of your coord. the wig looks too artificial, especially in how it does not match your head shape. it sits too high, as if it is a creature which has not settled into its roost and is still on alert. a temporary fix could be to wear a hat with this one.

for makeup, your eyebrows seem uneven. i think your shadow could be blended better, too.

subtle contour on your cheeks may help enhance the look of a vampire without looking OTT. the drama of the coord and makeup seems missing from the lower half of your face, which seems featureless in contrast. i think your lip shape is a good asset if you want to add a touch of tint to them.

Do you have any tips for making my real hair lay flat? I know it can be done, because I've seen other people with long hair wear wigs and not have them ride up, but even wearing two wig-caps, all my just makes this volume and then the wig keeps trying to pop off the back of my head - does this mean the wig's too small? Is there a kind of braid that puts the volume of my hair in the right place to not make my wigs look off?

The wig was cheap because I wanted to have a go at styling one, and was a bit worried that I'd ruin it, as it's not something I've really done before, so didn't want to fork out for a decent wig only to ruin it.

I'm terrible at eyebrows, and will keep practising at the make-up.

Fencing, chess and horsemanship - all more refined and sporting activities derived from martial training, as by the periods where Ouji and Aristocrat start taking their fashion cues, princes actually riding out into battle was already pretty outdated and historical, but the Romanticised notion that they once did lived on.

Motorsports, as a later one, especially the kinds where you have to have lots of money to even think about participating. They're more likely to be formula 1 than demolition derby XD Also flying - again, learning to fly a plane is a hobby for those with lots of disposable income, especially as unless you're planning to be a pilot (Prince Harry joined the RAF, for example, and I think he worked on a search and rescue helicopter) it's somewhat of a hobby for its own sake. Especially as really rich people, if they have to fly somewhere, usually have /someone else/ fly the private jet/helicopter.

Princes tend to either get educated at very posh private schools, or be home schooled for security reasons, so the sports they get exposed to also tend to be private school sports - hence horse riding and fencing again, but also rugby, cricket, lacrosse. Private schools also tend to have school-organised skiing trips during the festive break.

However, there's plenty of princes with more academic interests - and monarchy in general. I think several members of the Japanese monarchy are scientists as well as monarchs, and someone already mentioned Frederik of Denmark. Prince Charles (of Wales? How does that work with the UK monarchy?) is I think really into art history and architecture and stuff, and I think funded an entire village to be built in different historical architectural styles. (With a really English name like Poundville or Poundbury or somethign??)

I really want to get buttcapes this year.

I think I'm going to try transitioning to wearing more ouji than Lolita , because it's just more practical as I live in the middle of nowhere and have to go everywhere on public transport, so petticoats get annoying. As such, investing in more and better pieces for ouji is something I'm now working on. More trousers/britches, better wigs, buttcapes.

Does anyone know a GOOD place to get ouji-suitable wigs. The one I was wearing was cheap because I wanted to experiment with it, but as well as possibly looking shiny/wiggy, it kept trying to come off the back of my head, hence why it looks like a head-eating creature. I don't know if it's a sizing issue, a me tucking my hair wrong issue, a wig quality issue, or what.

the current trend in wa lolita is for kimono-esque fabrics in the traditional lolita silhouette, instead of the old "ruffly kimono top" style that was often very ita. i have not seen this trend affect ouji coords yet.

your hair should balance with the rest of your coord. some coords work with short hair, but some need more volume or else you look pinheadish.

the fluffy look of curly/kinky hair can definitely be full enough for ouji, in my opinion. fullness can matter more than length. it is the limp, thin hair that looks bad without wigs, usually.

>It is an imagination. Because there is no specific subject of the prince, it is because we need to make an image within ourselves as to what Prince is. Also, from the details of the clothes, I feel the thought put in each piece of clothing and interpret it. Ouji-kei is wearing clothes with each thought so even if it is the same clothes, the impression will look different. That is important.

Akira is probably the most famous boystyle model atm, and Disacode has a solid fanbase.

ALSO, AatP's materials have gotten flimsier and they may rely more on gaudy metallic trim, or it may just seem that way when comparing new releases to the most enduring designs from the entire history of the brand. like criticizing contemporary pop music as a whole against what has stayed in play rotations on "classic" music stations. nostalgia is not a good judge of anything

"feminine ouji" is a theme/substyle in magazines like KERA, and brands like Innocent World do their ouji in a very feminine way, with femininely-styled models. it depends on your own tastes and the rest of the coord.

i say go for it. if it matches the coord, you can make it work, even if your overall look is more androgynous or masculine.

Algonquins is still going, as well as Deorart! they have been holding down the punky fort for oujis.

I like Deorart and Algonquins but Putumayo had a special, cuter element in their pieces that you don't get from the others. They had a slightly historic feeling too; Deorart is more like Sexpot-lite and Algonquins isn't really cohesive because they put out a lot of clothes. That's absolutely fine, I have a lot of clothes from both of those brands but I feel like we've lost a niche. The closest we have now is Maxicimam, but they're mostly focused on Lolita dresses.

>> No.9880239

>>9876896
that is true.

fortunately, Putu remains widely circulated 2nd hand. i rather wish there had been a passing of the torch to the next generation of altfash designers: we are losing many brands without getting much to replace them.

Does anybody know what boots this guy is wearing? Or what the style would be called/where I could find similar ones that are more elegant/slim like that and less edgy/combat-boot like? I checked his insta, but nothing was mentioned about what he was wearing.

My girlfriend is putting together her first aristo coord (masculine), and while she has some edgy/clunky shoes to go with it, she's also interested in finding something more...elegant like that.

I need more shots of guys like this so I can build inspo for how to style myself and my masculine looking ass

I have a slightly soft face but with a strong jaw like this guy, and I'm tall and relatively built. I saw the bust measurement for some of these pieces and I don't understand how any guys can fit into them.

This is going to sound moderately inflammatory, but I'm new so I need to say it:
Why does so much of this stuff have to look feminine? Isn't there a dignified and masculine way to wear these styles? I've seen stuff here and there that works, but the Japs especially look like they're trying to be girls often times.

There's nothing inherently feminine about lace and frills, but yes, of course you can incorporate more sharp, clean lines into your coords to make them less frilly and still fall under aristocrat.

frills and lace aren't meant to be indicators of gender, anon, but of wealth.
Ideas of what is masculine and what is feminine vary greatly over time.
For example, basketball players in the 60s and 70s wore such wonderful short shorts. baring that much leg is now a femme thing. what a sad world.
These Jfashions draw a lot of inspo from 18th and 19th century fashion, particularly noble and royal wear. I mean, it's right there in the names: Aristocrat; Ouji=prince...
There was a time when most male footwear featured a heel of some sort, and men wore high socks and tights.

you gotta address your weird bias which is anchored in a present-day western view of masculinity.
don't force yourself to try fashion that you don't have a heart for. you will gain nothing.

Stuff like this is my fucking jam. Just like how with Lolita, I appreciate it for the femininity that it emphasizes in women, I still feel like for myself, a style that is grandiose, yet still masculine (sorry, I can't do frills), is much more interesting to me. Imagine like dressing in old style military dress, complete with shoulder pads, aguilettes, and the like, or like a pirate. My rule is that if it seems to feminine for Prince, it's too much for me.

Have you even tried looking at websites that sell boystyle clothing...? All you described is just as common as the frillier garments. Your problem will most likely be finding clothes in the right size and not the amounts of ruffles. It sounds like you looked at 5 coords and deemed the entirety of the boystyle spectrum to be the same

>> No.9891223

I'm 6'3", is it even possible for me to do boystyle? I've wanted to do different kinds of J-fashion for almost 5 years now, and I haven't even attempted it since I'm so much taller than Japanese people who this stuff is made for.

Yes, it is, you just need to find stuff that fits you. You might not fit Japanese brand but fortunately for you it's much easier to find pieces that work with boystyle in other brands, unlike lolita.

I'd take a look at Shrine https://shrinestore.com/mens-clothing/ Their designs are pretty OTT unless you get them in black/black, but they do have some nice looking basics too, and their waistcoats are stunning and imo would be great as a pop of color in your coords. Just be mindful of the design you pick because not all of them are appropriate for ouji/aristo.
Punk Rave have some designs for guys too but idk about their quality so I'm hesitant to recommend them.
Otherwise afaik there's Fan+Friend http://www.fanplusfriend.com/men/ They're cheaper and offer custom sizing, but again, be careful because not all their designs are appropriate.

no one's going to hold your hand and create your style for you. wear what you like but don't call it jfashion if it isn't. look into mature western goth, or high fashion designers with an obsession with military motifs.
