Anyone else having issues with shipping? I was given the option to have my item shipped from either China or USA, and even though I chose the latter it still shipped from China.

Also, usps hasn’t received my package even though it should be in the country by now. Do I call someone?

I don't have it here with me (college dorm, not enough space for all my clothes) but its actually pretty decent quality. The fabric is a bit on the thin side but its good for summer. A little tight and short for me (I'm 1.72cm for reference) but nothing that can't be handled.

i didn't realize there were replicas of these brands either until i used taobao's image search on certain dresses one day and saw the countless results. I think this is something a lot of lolitas who aren't as familiar with taobao don't realize, either.

desu it makes perfect sense that they do exist, though, when you consider the popularity of certain dresses and then the scale of the demand for said dresses just within China itself

Thanks for the heads up! I measured their dimensions against what I need though and they seem just right, they're for a big clunky waist chain/belt piece rather than any actual jewelery pieces.

As for the bottom left, yep it's 5mm EVA foam! This is my third time buying from the same seller, it's good stuff (especially since I cant find that thickness anywhere locally). The seller has listings for a bunch of different thicknesses, sizes and colours too.

Hey why does the OP say to use Taobao for large orders? There's a ton of stuff I want to buy but I checked it out and it seems like a hassle really compared to Aliexpress.
I feel like I'm missing something important here, should I just go with a lot of different Aliexpress orders or use Taobao?

yeah basically each individual item on ali already has a shipping price and a price markup folded into it (in order to give the appealing free shipping option), so if you buy them all together directly from taobao you only pay the base price before markup and one shipping fee, as opposed to tons of individual ones that inevitably add up to a lot more overall
If you're curious, I'd suggest using the budget spreadsheet from the taobao thread and comparing total prices for your specific items first

I wanna review a little because I just received this shirt today and it's probably one of the best shirts I've bought from Ali. It's not see-through at all, feels like cotton, is pretty true to their sizing chart and the print isn't just dyed into the fabric as it tends to be. And it allows more to show of my autism on a budget.

Top left and bottom right has really itchy and fraying lace. The way it's sewn on is also really strange and ridiculously small. Since the lace isn't stretchy and both sweaters only come in one-size, it looks awkward when worn.

Top middle and bottom left are top quality though, I love them! Smooth lace, clean embroidery and the stretchy body makes it really comfortable to wear.

The red sweater in the middle below is just like in the picture, but when it arrived it stank like a chinese chem factory. Once that's over it's very soft and reeeally warm though (if a bit shapeless, but hey it's a winter sweater).

How did you get the smell out? I once got a sweater from Taobao with a horrible chemical smell that caused a burning sensation in my sinuses and wouldn’t go away, even after many washes, a long stay in the freezer (seagull recommendation lol) and at least weekly airing for like a year. I ended up throwing it out because not only was it unwearable, it stunk up whatever area of the apartment it was kept in.

I hang it outside on my balcony (a bit like putting it in the freezer currently, lol). The smell is still there somewhat but it's gotten way better. I think with some more rounds in the washer with a good amount of fabric softener it'll go away completely.

Does tracking shipping from aliexpress make anyone else anxious? I know my stuff will get here eventually and I know that it’ll take a while because it’s coming from China but epacket is so unpredictable.

I’ve had packages bounce back and forth between two post offices (? Idk) for two weeks. I’ve had packages spend a week floating around between China and Chicago, IL (which is where my packages usually land before being turned over to USPS). And every time I order the shipping lingo is totally different.
Like, here’s the latest update on my most recent order:

Like, wtf does this mean? What does “(turn)” mean? Is this a command or is this what the package already did? not OP but to be fair, a lot of times the items are literal trash. So many times ive had comm members try to host "the best meet ever" and the goodie bags were always filled with trash. Cheap rings and key chains that broke off within the first use if not broken in your bag already.

Honestly i think the best thing ive received in a goodie bag was a badge/button with the event/comm banner art.

idk about aliexpress but taobao probably sells some refills for the can badge maker and if anyones an artist at cons they usually have a maker or knows someone who does. If you dont have comm or event art though, its probably not very helpful.

You could also get those clear photo key chains (10 for $2) and fill them instead or leave them plain if you have a purikura machine or some kind of photo booth machine nearby that makes smaller photos that can fit inside. Or you can get slightly bigger ones and if its usually the same people that go to events, print a nice/goofy group photo and give it out or something.

there actually are a lot of harmful products on there you can buy, which is why it's recommended not to buy skin care/make up/food, etc products from aliexpress or taobao. There are knock off/poorly made electronics which really are known to set fire, etc.

if the company is highly rated/has been for years, the item has a lot of orders and a high rating etc, it probably is ok

but don't think you can't get dangerous stuff from aliexpress. I'm not trying to make you paranoid or unhappy with your order, just be safe especially if it's stuff that's for your infant and their food etc... it really CAN be dangerous. China has such low to non-existent regulations/standard enforcement for products that in a lot of places, Chinese will not even buy locally, but import.

And even then these companies will try their luck and sell you stuff that isn't legally okay - which is why those regulations are important and why working in quality control with Chinese production companies is actually hell. You have to account for it and schedule random quality checks all the time, because if they think they're not being watched they'll start cutting corners and adulterating shit. Even when it's regulated stuff sneaks under the radar. Walmart have had to issue so many product recalls for keychains and necklaces containing high amounts of heavy metals, and they only found out after children were poisoned by them.

With Taobao you're buying directly from the source at Chinese prices, so if you purchase a decent number of items you'll pay less even including shipping. In my country everything is taxed if it goes over 22€, you have to provide proof documents for every purchase you make and get hit with the same exact administration fee for every single package that exceeds that 22€ cap. Everything is opened by them regardless if they think the value is wrong or not, they say they have to "confirm" that what is in the package matches the documents you are forced to show them.
I wasn't even allowed to keep or take pictures of a package I received because the seller sent me the wrong item. I had no way to prove I've gotten the wrong thing until the package travelled all the way back to the seller.
Plus, they charge an extra 2€ fee for every parcel you go pick up in person, in case you don't want to wait at least a month for their incompetence to release your stuff.
Idk what the fuck is up with EU customs in general, I've heard too many complaints from people from several different countries.

Apparently the 2€ fee to pick up the parcel in person is an "emergency fee", aka "we are so damn incompetent that people got fed up with the ridiculous waiting times and started coming in larger numbers to pick up their parcels, so let's apply a bullshit fee to stop this place from getting crowded and/or further profit off people's frustration".

Plus, to even be able to go get your package in person, you have to wait for them to send you a letter, that you must take with you when you go thete. Otherwise, they refuse you service.

But you don't have to have the letter anon, I have picked up Taobao orders and other stuff before the moment I checked the tracking and saw it was stuck. What you need to do is go the alfandega like usual and ask at the tesouraria (sorry for pt terms but its easier rip) for the letter, as long as you know your tracking number they will print it out and give it to you on the spot! You gotta make sure you have the proper documents to pick it up but since they are the same mos of the time, its a pretty safe bet. Btw there's a high chance the first lady you have to speak (the one to who you give the regular documents and letter to) to will tell you that they dont allow for the printing of the letter to be done there and that you have to wait, just know its bs on their part and that she just doesnt want to have the trouble of getting the fuck up.

Those times are gone anon, idk when was the last time you've picked up something in person but not only did they change rules but also the place itself.
There used to be that big counter saying "Tesouraria" with a grumpy old lady who'd print the letter for you easily, now they outright refuse to give you anything without the stupid letter. I tried that a few months ago and was sent away because I didn't have the letter. To note that I had both the tracking and the "número local" that is in the letter because I called CTT prior to going there (had been 10 days and no letter so I went there in person).
They have papers on the walls with these new "rules" too. I know they are just lazy fucks and could easily print the letter, one woman there even told me that "even if she printed it, my parcel wasn't sorted for pick up yet" (which is total bullshit, the letter actually arrived later that morning, unfortunately it was already after I left. If I had taken it later in the day she couldn't say that shit), but they just outright refuse it now due to the "new rules". I even tried to bullshit back and say I really had to pick it up because I would be leaving on vacations and would have no way to pick my parcel at a later date, I had all other docs too and still got sent away.
The one you give the regular docs and letter to now is a man on a small counter/table to the left, or at least it was always him in the recent times I've been there.
So either you haven't been there in a good while or are some sort of magical fairy who manages to get it your way. If the latter, let me know your secrets.

I personally really like them! They are very much like the picture and it only took 2 weeks for them to arrive. Be careful with the White bits though, they are not glued on and as you can see I already lost one sadly. (plus side (?) is since there's no glue I can change them and still wear both sets). Also they are a bit uncomfortable in the beginning but I've never worn clip in earrings before so maybe that's Just me?

Skin cancer isn't really the biggest concern with these kind of things anyway, it's the metal content. Lead, arsenic, etc. That's the most common risk with designer knockoffs from China and HK, not sure about a separate "brand".

I didn't notice any heavy metals.
Titanium dioxide and iron oxides are used as pigments in cosmetics as far as I know, but these are not heavy metals, so they are not dangerous.

I'm honestly tired of this fear-mongering.
A lot of makeup stuff sold in the west under western brands is made in China. But it also goes both ways, Chinese factories source their chemicals from the west. Or sometimes cosmetics are made in various places, but are assembled and packaged in China.
If you trust so much your western makeup, check the labels where it's made. All of Sephora brand is from China. ELF, NYX, Cargo, IT Cosmetics, Wet n Wild, Airspun, MUA, Revolution all produce in China. It doesn't have to be true for all products, but often for most of them.
They can also use shady labels, like Made in PRC or P.R.O.C., both of which mean People's Republic of China. Some will say "Assembled in USA with imported parts", and then you can't really know what and where from was imported.
