I got what I thought was my dream dress today... it turns out the seller used the picture of the lavender colorway. It's one of IW'S older dresses so the lighting is bad in thr stock pic and it could be interpreted as ivory.
It's partially my fault because I didn't confirm with the seller (it wasn't explicitly listed). Her proof pic's color was ambiguous as well. I'm just so disappointed that I'm now stuck trying to sell the dress and yet again have to return to the 10-month long hunt.

I've had the IW Chandelier print (OP version) and the fit of it was awkward, so I sold it. I'm not sure how the fit of the JSK is, but it's been one of those dresses that I just let out a long sigh when I see it. It's simply gorgeous; the flocked velvet on the soft wool just made my heart melt, and the lace and bustle on the OP were so delicate and elegant, I miss it so much. I use to have the jsk and sold it to buy the op because the rouching on the bust was weird. I later sold the op because it didnt fit quite right on me so now im trying to hunt down the jsk again. Id rather wear a bolero and hide the bodice then not own the dress at all.

I got all of my dream dresses this year.
Good thing: I can concentrate on blouses, cardigans, shoes, bags and such. Also, it's nice to check sales less regulary, because you're not afraid of missing out 'that dress'.
Bad thing: My dream dresses were more exciting before I got them. One of the reasons is, because I feel like they don't look that good on me, because I'm still too fat and I neglected interesting staple pieces.

How long did it take you to find your first dress you would fall in love in?

I'm still on the lookout, as a total newbie, I guess.
I have ran into pic related, but my excitement waned a little, when I discovered that the red colorway is not available in my size anymore. I kinda like the blue one, and the sax could look pretty, too, but I cannot decide which, if any, I should get, or maybe if I should try a bigger size with red.

How strong is the feeling when you find a dress to dream about? I'm having a hard time finding dresses to get excited about, I'm indifferent about most of them, and I'm not sure I have yet found a dress to dream of.

My first dream dress was literally the reason I got into lolita. I got more introduced to the fashion bc of tumblr, and the moment I saw it, it was like...I knew I needed it and might never happen. But after about four years of being in the fashion, that dress is sitting in my wardrobe now, safe and sound.

It's okay if you don't have a dream dress now or ever. Just buy things you like and discover your style. Maybe in time, you'll find something that really captures your heart.

My criteria for dream dresses:

I agree with all the previous anons; it’s really just an overwhelming feeling. The few dream dresses I’ve had, I’ve felt like I could trade most/if not my whole/ wardrobe for this one dress. It’s usually I can’t stop looking at pictures of it, wanting to see it coorded, appreciating all of its details through pictures. If you’re still new, don’t worry it will come. I think my dream dress intensity grew as I was in the fashion longer, and knew dresses that really just felt like “my style” or “aesthetic.” Kind of like a cornerstone for your wardrobe or image perhaps?

I literally have my dream wardrobe. I have all my dream prints (not all the desired colorways). I got a better job, paid off my debts and then bought all the brand that I can never wear.

When I started wearing lolita, it was my dream to have a wardrobe like pic related. Now It's way more impressive. I think I would panic if I had to choose this many to keep. Nobody knows that I really have this much because I never really document or share it.

It's a chinese lolita. afaik they are open to doing payment plans still but it just costs a lot more than I would ever anticipate for that dress.
I can technically pay for it without a payment plan, I'm just really struggling to justify that amount of money for this dress in particular. I guess because it's more plain so my brain can't handle the idea that I could buy 2 nice dresses with the same money. (Plus the skirt has come up for like 2000-8000yen ish).

I have 41. Maybe more? I think I cataloged them all but who knows if I have one or two hidden somewhere in a suitcase or garment bag somewhere. I'm awful like that. It's not a lot compared to others with 150+ piece wardrobes but I'm happy with my collection.

I don't wear it often at all. This year, I can probably count the times I wore it outside of a convention setting on both hands and still have fingers left over. I work as a salaried retail manager which means I'm tethered to my store and always have to cancel plans. It sucks for work/life balance but I paid a ton of stuff off and bought a lot of brand this year.

I'm actually quitting and looking for something that hopefully pays close but strictly hourly with overtime if I want to pick up hours. When I was full time but hourly, I'd usually wear it weekly, once a month at the very least. Now I can't even get out of bed on my day off and I throw my phone across the room and pray my DM doesn't call me asking why I'm not answering calls to come in. I clocked 70 hours last week and did 2 15 hour shifts back to back and lost my day off due to a call off and no coverage. I get paid the same as if I did my usual 50 hours. This is my life right now.

Dream Dresses were Honey Cake, Chess Chocolate, Sweet Cream House, Marine Kingdom, Sugar Hearts, and Milky Planet Special Set (closet child $150 fuck yeah). I'd still like to own Honey Cake in Ivory. I want Loyal Rosette in brown, Princess Cat in lavender or wine, and I'd like to own Dream Sky again. But I feel like everything at this point is wishlist?

I'm a crazy bird lady but it seems like most bird prints are sweet, I've been hoping to get this skirt for ages~

Mostly concerned admittedly by how the seller doesn't bother whatsoever with making a description or shipping quotes for anything, I panic messaged them asking for more info but in the end since I didn't get a reply after a few hours I just bit the bullet because I couldn't let it escape me. Question for the wiser and more experienced than me, for some reason I have the perception that End of Immortal Eden is a print that sells quickly at high value, but I don't know why? It's very pretty but is there a particular reason it's so popular other than the print being nice? Obviously asking as it's on my dream list but I'm currently mentally slotting it under "pray for a rerelease" due to the secondhand value. Maybe this will mark me as "new" or something, I admittedly only really got into the fashion two years ago. I just don't really hear about this print much in comparison to Melty Ribbon Chocolate or even other AatP prints.

Who decides what’s the going rate? Isn‘t well above a grand the going rate?
After all, not all ‚sold‘ pieces were actually sold. The one I wanted to buy for 88,888 yen that‘s was a scam and I know a couple more listings that were scams. The only cheaper ones are the japanese ones and these are usually sold in the blink of an eye (like the stained 60k one on mercari or the 75k one on yahoo) and all the SS and paypal fees not even counted in.

I simply feel like there’s this misconception that CTP is cheaper now just because of some lucky sales on the japanese market.

The problem with this data is though, that the average price is a bit skewed by the first couple of sales. You can see it did raise in value after 2015. So if you exclude them you get a higher average value, which is more accurate as it represents what people are willing to pay now.

Also, something that skews the data are those urgent sales. The person who bought the last set for 1,100 usd did so in mere minutes (I remember how I missed out) as it was again an urgent sale. Do urgent sales represent the value correctly though? I'm pretty sure there would be people who would pay more than 1,300 for the set with thge missing choker if they had more time to save up.
CTP truly is a hard case.

Is your DD particularly rare? As in you don't see it for sale ever?

I have this "rarity" spectrum in my mind: on one end are dresses that are valued very high, but pop up relatively often & changes hands often (e.g. CTP). The other end is dresses that just never appear, and when they do they're pretty reasonably priced or cheap.

The print itself isn't too rare, it pops up every few months in other cuts and colors just never both at the same time.
I'd say it's in the middle of your spectrum- it appears semi frequently/infrequently but most of the cuts go for around retail.

Unfortunately I do have some nonprint dream dresses that just never ever appear, and when they do another buyer snatches them up immediately.

I think she primarily looked for Hina Ichigo. The IW sets appear from time to time, but Hina seems to be rather rare, from what I noticed keeping an eye on RM stuff.
Currently there are Suiseiseki (50k), Shinku (42k), and Kanaria (16.8k) on Frill, with Suigintou which sold a while ago and Hina being sold since I first searched on Frill.

Be warned about the Curious JSK anon, it's made out of a very unfortunate blend so unless the previous owner hardly wore it it's likely to have fuzz and pilling ALL OVER. I'd bought the blue colorway a while back and it looked like shit. I tried cleaning it up several times with one of those pilling trimmer gadgets and it hardly did anything. A friend who's a professional seamstress told me it was just sucky fabric and it would just get worse with wear. I felt really bad about letting it go, but I just couldn't bring myself to wear it out.
