I guess I'll go ahead and make first post here, finally decided on the main gifts for my giftee and purchased them~! Now just to wait for them to arrive to my SS then to here. My only anxiety I know is silly - of course one can't fulfill every single interest a person has, but my gifts just cover a few, I hope they make her happy ahhhhh

As I'm in the higher tier, I managed to get a very nice big item for a super good price, bless Japanese secondhand, so I'm beyond happy about that.

the easiest part comes once you purchase the first item. I've made a little mspaint image so that I can keep track of what I bought so far, and which interests I've ticked. it's helpful seeing the pieces and how they relate to each other, and what holes I feel still need filling.

I make salary and I work in retail. I can work open to close every day for 7 days a week and get paid the same amount no matter what. All I get for working an extra 60 hours in a period of 6 weeks is a floating vacation day that I can only take in January. Sometimes, I don't get days off. I mean it's better pay than just full time, and I bought a ton of brand but I can rarely wear it so what's the point? After the holidays are over, I'm finding something else that might give me a little more flexibility to make actual plans and have a life outside my job. /blogpost

I'm in the $35-50 range, since that's really all I could afford. I'm looking at what I got my SS though and for some reason I feel bad because it doesn't feel like much, even though I'm at the top of the bracket before shipping. Honestly, most lolitas know they have an expensive hobby. I wouldn't worry if I only got one nice hair accessory in that bracket, since brand hats and headdresses are easily in or above that category new and not everyone can afford to go over their category.

I'm a bit stuck for one of my matches. She only listed fashion interests, specifically said no food or merch, and I'm not into her fashion style so I've found it quite hard to shop for her. She listed a lot of colours and items she hates, which contradict the style she's listed - it's a bit like trying to shop for gothic lolita but they hate black.

She hasn't said much of what she DOES like, and has dropped hints she wants a brand dress but we're only in the $20-$35 bracket so finding any brand is going to be difficult. She's not responding to questions here or by email, so I've bought some things I hope she'll like through researching her preferred style but they're a bit basic jfash just because I have no ideas what to get.

I feel so bad, and I feel like when she gets the package she'll be let down/think I've grinched her, especially because the items I've bought although they go over $35 are a bit simple and it might seem like I've been cheap, but at this point I'm completely out of ideas.

What do I do from this point? Is there anything else I can do?

Maybe contact Seagull Santa about it, I think if you've met budget and tried to follow the guidelines then that's pretty much as much as you can do, especially since you've tried to contact your match for more information. Not everyone is going to be able to buy perfect gifts particularly if the other person is unreasonably demanding in their expectations... and that's kinda what happens with Secret Santas. But it might be good to give the organizers a heads up in case she is unreasonably salty or tries to complain about her gift.

Really if someone has such conflicting styles and taste and they don't want to receive food or merch, then there's not much more you can do. It's only the $20-35 bracket so she should just accept you being 'cheap' (even though you're over the price bracket) and leave her expectations to the higher brackets.

tldr you did your best, if your match is a so picky then she's not going to get a perfect gift anyway.

I honestly regret not signing up for a higher tier, because I've already gone over the price point for my SS but I feel like I still need to buy more to make it a really wow gift.
But honestly, that's kind of just what the bracket is for. Good, great presents, but not really a "wow" factor like a brand dress or something. You can try to contact Seagull Santa for advice, but honestly you're doing the best you can in the category you're in so don't feel too bad.

I grinched my recipient in /a/'s Secret Santa two years ago due to poor planning, and even though I sent them an apology gift plus a makeup one last Christmas I still feel terrible about it. In the past I've filled a big box with multiple smaller gifts, and that we I feel a little more sure that they will like something I picked out for them (plus I think it's really fun to open a big box!).

This year I got one really expensive, small piece for my giftee and just a couple of inexpensive treats to help pad the box, and now I'm worried that they might not like the main expensive piece. They have some similar-ish items on their wishlist so it wasn't a total shot in the dark. Pray for me gulls, I hope I did well~

I ended up telling my Santa this and I guess I'll post it here too. Not all of the best gifts are the most expensive. In previous years the gifts that I enjoyed the most were ones personalized to me, or fitted my interests or wardrobe needs the most. And occasionally I've received brand/pricey items which were very nice (and I am grateful for) but didn't match my wardrobe description or interests at all.

I know not everyone is like this and of course it's great to receive something valuable! But I get the impression that some people stress about having to extend far beyond their tier to please their giftee when something more thought out will do.
