are there any guides anywhere to sewing fabric to foam?

i have my foam head all done and ready, but it's my first time and i'm not really sure how to go about it.

also, is hand sewing okay? i can borrow my family's machine, but i've never used it before.

learned how once in highschool, but my thumb got stabbed by that giant needle.

i don't know how to sew the fabric to foam, i usually sew the pieces together then hot glue it on. sorry!

handsewing is fine, just make sure you use high quality thread and reinforce a couple times. i usually would do it 2-3 times over.
if you're making a body suit i'd recommend a machine though, to make sure it's extra sturdy.

Same as the other guy, sew the pieces together and drape it over your head, fasten with hotglue if necessary
I know for removable foam you usually make a 'pillow' sheet around the padding foam shape, then use velcro or button snaps sewn to that pillow sheet and to the inside of your fur to attach it. That way you can wash it easily.

Idk what separates what I find cool or cringe about fursuit content for me, I guess it's about the type of suit and what would fit that character.

So, in the last thread I was looking for a skintight fursuit maker so I can wear clothes comfortably over the suit. I haven't really found anyone who does those so I'm thinking about just getting a partial suit and wearing it with a white morphsuit since my character is mostly white anyway.

I can't tell you if they're open or not for commissions currently, but I'd like to mention that honestly, a lot of fursuit makers are willing to try making skin tight or fitted suits. Most people just go with digitigrade for a more animal look. Most plantigrade suits tend to be fitted lol. They just aren't super tight due to the best materials being really expensive. (NFT, stretch fur)

New to the community. Went to a few small meeetups so far and they were fun, but I'm really not used to (and kind of put off by) how open everyone is? Like, sex jokes and actually making out with or being in poly relationships with one another, and constantly messaging me on telegram when I barely know them. I don't know these people yet and it's intimidating because I feel like they expect me to also be as open and cheery and Insta-best-budsies when I am just being myself and sometimes I like space and not sharing. I am an outgoing person, I like being social, but I feel like I have to put on a mask or they think I'm upset/angry with them or I feel out of place.

I really don't want that, I am an adult and I'm okay with occasional jokes and innuendo but I feel like their culture is "everyone is fucking everyone and we are a family and you are our family now too".
They aren't trying to push me for sexual stuff but it feels awkward still and EVERYONE wants to hug you all the time for no reason without asking. Maybe some of it is me just being shy or confused about all the physical affection and openness? I think I will ask them to tone it down the next time we meet or try to politely tell them I am more shy about it. I do worry they might use that as an excuse to do it more and "make me comfortable" because when I used to hang out with shitty anime kids they pulled that kind of stuff.

Maybe it's the whole "love and acceptance" attitude the fandom has. They go overboard. It probably also doesn't help when suits wear low-key gimp stuff, the harnesses, hotpants, leashes etc. I'm actually legit afraid of someone groping me at a con "as a joke" or for a funny picture or to see if I'm actually the same gender as my suit or goddamn glomping. I hear this happens to female suiters sometimes, but I don't actually know. Regardless I don't want anyone touching my junk. Hugs in suit are fine but peeps should still ask before they touch.

They're literally the same exact head with a different color hair tuft. Bright red, lime green eyes and nose, big black eyebrows, blue/purple tipped ears, white face. In their defense sometimes they might not know where their hand is. People can be bad at posing, have bad spacial awareness, bad vision etc etc. If they are actively trying to sneak a touch that is shitty and I'm sure you know the difference so keep yourself safe but some people just suck at mascotting and don't know what to do with their hands. My first con I saw a suit wearing jeans. No shirt just jeans. Then I realized I recognized the suit from kinky pics and that the jeans were to hide the hole. Ayy, Kemocube here. I finally had time to actually browse here again after a bunch of life stuff. Wanted to make sure I got my work back on track first.

Someone asked a few threads ago about the ventilation of my suits and I just found a method that works. I put fans in the muzzle of all my commissions and now started putting discreet vents just below the eyes and in the ears. It's black plastic mesh so it blends in with the "eyeliner" of the head. I'm able to wear my heads for quite a while with the fan running and without fogging. Pic related is my last commission that just arrived to her owner.

I only ever suit in public at meet ups, where there's a decent group of us out at one time, plus the volunteer handlers and anyone else tagging along. The positive reaction is fantastic like that other anon said. I've been asked for photos and hugs and received compliments from members of the public ranging from kids with their parents to older couples. It absolutely makes it worth it.
The only negativity I've encountered was from some old guys drinking outside a pub who were basically just like "don't you have anything better to do???", as if watching a football game and downing your 5th pint by 3pm is great in comparison.

You're gonna run into people who are vocal enough to be asses in public eventually but most people are either curious, friendly or at most just stay where they are and look in your direction. Personally I wouldn't suit in public by myself though, especially not at an area with kids just because it'd be weird enough for an adult to hang around a kid's play park by themselves even in normal clothing.
I have been to a meet at a park though and it went really well. The parents there could clearly see it was an organised event and whole families were happy to interact with a bunch of us while we did our thing.

Speaking about outdoor meets and public suit wearing, have you heard of any problems with police? In europe it's increasingly commonly forbidden to completely cover your face in public (usually attributed to burqa and discrimination)

If you're performing for money in a public place then you need to get a busking permit but there's nothing about casual performance or costuming in public unless you were going to block off part of a street or road like say for a parade or something big.

Only exception I could think to this would be shops/shopping centres where security footage is needed to prevent thieves.. But at most they can ask at that point is for you to leave or to remove your mask while inside the shopping area.

I do think solo “guerilla” suiting can come off as creepy, so it’s something best to be avoided. A handler is a must. Of course, the lifestylers will disagree and say “fuck the normies, so what if I’m at a playground and the parents are worried, this is who I am!”

Also trip report on adjusting my fursuit head's jaw to be a little open: Propping it open a bit for a couple of weeks seems to have had a good effect! It looks closer to the original expression now, I think I'm going to invest in a hat stand for it so the jaw can hang freely while being stored in the future

The reason why it isn't named burqa ban is because the Grünen complained about that name being racist or something. Can't link theshark thing tho as it was one of Mc Shark's staff writting about that on FB in response to some media report.

Austria only got the same ban that France and Switzerland got and you can wear whatever you want as long as you can identify yourself on request which a burqua wearer won't do, else motorcycle helmets would be banned too.

Okay, I am upset that the parent thinks it's fetishy but honestly it is your responsibility and your handlers to represent you in public. With kids I always crouch down to their level so their faces aren't in my crotch, and keep my hands up in photos so there's no suspicion of funny business. My handler needs to be able to answer the "what is this for?" question with confidence for me and say things like "we're just having some fun, spreading some cheer" or "they made the costume and we're taking it out for a test run" etc etc. Be honest and don't be nervous or its gonna look creepy. Also make sure your handler isn't a sweaty neckbeard looking motherfucker.

I'm lucky that the group I've gone with before are all very mature professional people. One of them is a pro mascot and she always makes sure we are respectful and that the events we do are positive outings. There's nothing inherently wrong with going to a park or something to walk around but when you're by yourself and look like you don't have a plan (walking around aimlessly or standing in place a lot) it looks creepy. A group of 3 or more looks like an organized event and people are more forgiving of that.

I worked at Six Flags for two years as a costumed character and the thing is, most of the people doing it see it as just a job. Very few were also into cosplay or suiting. None of my coworkers had any real opinions on furries other than "why the hell would anyone do this for fun". But keep in mind Six Flags and from what I've heard from a friend who works at Disney as give zero shits about how uncomfortable you are in the suit and if you need a break or not (oh they tell you you can ask for a break but it's a lie).

Disney absolutely doesn't care if you're uncomfortable, just that you are healthy. Of course they can spin it around on you for not drinking enough fluids or whatever bullshit reason if you pass out. They do keep in mind safety and limit the amount of time you're out and keep a watchful eye on the weather to adjust that though. It's physically demanding and if you can't handle the level of energy needed and being uncomfortably hot for 10-20 minutes at a time go get a puss job like photopass.

Anon Im at one of the Texas Six Flags parks where its regularly 110 degrees daily and they keep us out for 30-45 minute sets IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT. No one I know in these jobs is a "puss". That being said it'd be nice to know that the parks care if their workers pass out on a regular basis.
