>> No.9645699

>>9645356

I do this with prints, lol. I have two AP Mercator long jsks, 4 AP Belle Epoque Rose jsks, and 3 IW Lily Emblem jsk. A lot of times it's simply about the cut being so flattering, I hunt down the other colours so I can at least wear a different colour of a dress that looks darn good on me.

I've collected different colourways of a print in other cuts, but generally I end up selling off the less flattering cuts or colourways after one or two years. Looking for the same cut in different prints doesn't always work either. I'm low-ley hunting True Rose Story special set in other colourways, it looks just like every other AP cut and doesn't seem special, but the waist on that particular cut hits me exactly just right and looks much better than other jsks with a similar cut. I'm not sure whether it's a different pattern or something, it just looks better, and I want more of it.

Skirts are a fine option, but as the other anon said, they're not always available for a given series, or the style of the skirt is kinda meh in comparison to the JSK/OP. I would've bought ribbon bunny in a heartbeat if they had kept the scalloped edge from the JSK on the skirt.

A comm member bought a wedding lolita dress off them, though (not for her actual wedding, she invited the lolita comm to a seperate wedding lolita tea party). She said a few times that she wished she'd been able to buy actual burando wedding dress instead of Elpress. idk anon, it's possible that this just wasn't washed correctly or that this needs to be dry cleaned. lots of burando needs to be dry cleaned or treated really gently so that it doesn't bleed or fade. not the best example to argue for quality.

So you didn't actually read the thread. It's not my picture I'm posting. Personally I've got a Yolanda jsk and it was fairly nice. Something that anon also mentions. This pic is literally straight out of the bag. I'll post parts of the other reviews since it's a such a chore apparently.

>"I’ve washed many burando dresses (some of my burando are worn every week and then I put them in the washing machine in a laundry bag. Same thing I did for this dress). I’ve seen dye run, but this is the first time I’m dealing with washing causing the print itself to disappear, leaving behind a dress with white spots. And the whole thing is so delicate, no wonder girls stop washing their dresses altogether."

>Krad loses everything else, though. Their fabric is thinner, flimsier, and downright shiny. JetJ fabric is a nice fake shantung. Not actually high-end luxury shantung, but it does a good job or pretending to be good enough. Krad's fabric... I don't know, maybe this release is just terribad. Someone else should do a burando-taobao comparison of their other releases, because like I said, this Krad dress is downright thin, flimsy and shiny.

>Considering it was surface printed, that is. I find with a lot of taobao pieces you need to keep one or two facts floating at the top of your mind, and then you can actually say “considering this was made with an inferior method to begin with, it aged wonderfully well”. Then somehow when reviewing burando the taobaolitas will also say “considering this was $300 and wasn’t presented to me on a silver platter I’m going to rate it lower than the taobao dress because considering the taobao dress was inferior to begin with the taobao dress aged very well."

The OP was saying that the construction and fabric were shit, nothing about the printing.
Of course the printing is dodgy, I guess that's just what happens with surface printing, but nobody said anything about printing until you brought it up. What I said though was that the taobao dress I own doesn't have the shit construction or fabric that OP's dresses apparently have. Like I said, it isn't brand quality but it's not the garbage people like to make it out to be.

You weren't the only anon I was quoting. Also brands, not a single brand. Saying it must be a one off heavily implies the vast majority are much better. As you said there's plenty of brands so how does you listing a single named example override another single example. I've never said taobao is horrible or not worth buying, it's a response to acting like taobao as a whole will give you good quality unless you have no idea what you're doing.

>>9647762
She stated her other dresses haven't had that problem. The picture I linked had the exact problem simply from being shipped. Regardless if she did or didn't that means that particular item is lesser quality if other items made of the same material fared much better. That also negate inferior materials.

Anon who posted most of the taobao in the other thread. I do just want to say the Mozarabic Chant jsk was only worn twice and dry-cleaned both times. Pretty sure that dress never saw the inside of a washing machine but there’s still white flecks appearing across the bodice. It is however a dress that dates from an age where taobao brands up front said they weren’t as good as burando, and to treat their dresses delicately. So I wouldn’t say definitively whether dry-cleaning can save your taobao prints.

Additionally, for your other point about burando needing dry-cleaning, I did also post a btssb dress that was dry-clean only, but was put in the washing machine more than a few times. Actually I guess I treated the burando dress way more harshly, wore it more often, washed it incorrectly, I’m not sure how it’s not a wreck, but it not only survived, it looks to be in better condition than the newer taobao dresses that I treated far more carefully.

I’m not bashing on taobao btw. You can tell from how many dresses I posted how much taobao I own, and I just got in Princutess’ whale dress, which I got a lot of compliments on. Like I said, I just want gulls to buy them with their eyes wide open. They’re still very pretty, and even with a shorter lifespan I think they’re still worth buying.

Hey gulls, sorry if this is in the wrong thread. Does anyone know if Japanese banks have buyer protection?
My friend doesn't have paypal or a debit/credit card (only cash) and really wanted to order something off fril through FromJapan. I ordered it for her with my PayPal, and per her request used the basic forwarding plan.
Well, the seller turned out to be a scammer and never sent the item. FromJapan said yahoo auctions has no buyer protection, and won't reply after I asked if their bank has protection.
Can't file a PayPal claim because of the basic forwarding plan.

Friend is now demanding I refund her or she'll tell everyone I'm a scammer and "notify the police."

This is a little bit of an embarrassing question but how do I wear lolita in the rain?

I live in a literal desert where we typically get less than a foot of rain a year.
However, my boyfriend and I are going to Florida this week and I want to wear lolita.
Will the rain deflate my petti?
Should I worry about colors running?
Is it easier to wear a wig or risk my natural hair getting weird from humidity?

Absolutely not
>Should I worry about colors running?
I guess you should avoid wearing old baby/aatp with bright reds and blues in prints. Otherwise you'll be fine.
>Is it easier to wear a wig or risk my natural hair getting weird from humidity?
Wigs are safer in the rain, yes. I myself wear wigs or at least clip-on bangs and a hat if I am going out in a humid weather and want to stay pretty.
But this generally depends on the type of your hair. If your hair is straight and silky and you do not have to style it every morning, you may be fine without wigs.
>What are some things I need to look out for?
Waterproof shoes and keeping your feet dry. Better do not wear suede or fabric shoes if there is a high chance of rain.

Get yourself a good umbrella and it will solve most of your problems. Check weather forecast before leaving the house. If it rains heavy all day and you have to be outside much, have an extra pair of socks or tights with you in case your feet get wet.
I do not know how much it rains in Florida though.

What's with Taobao-chans lately crying how Taobao is totally as good as brand? I still remeber when people used to whine about Bodyline being as good as brand so is this just because Bodyline is pretty much dead now and they need a new source for their shit? Most of Taobao looks pretty cheap and is comparable to fast fashion - it's only meant to last till the trends change. I don't care what people buy and wear but one could atleast aknowledge the facts. And before the angry Taobao anon comes raging at me, yes I have owned several Taobao dresses and none of them can ever top brand. Designs, materials and construction are not comparable and while the price might be low brand will last years and most of the dresses I have had wouldn't survive that much of wear. a handful of taobao brands are great quality, to the point that I think of them as Chinese Indie.
basically the older ones like
>Dear Celine
>Pumpkin Cat
>Boguta
>69th Dept
>Amastacia
>surface spell
are small brands who actually know their stuff and release semi-annually designs that they work on/quality check for a while until good enough for production.
They're serious and have been around long enough to have good, established relationships with reputable factories, unless the rare case in which the pieces are made in-house by them.
Some newer ones I've found to be okay are:
>Angels Heart
>Diamond Honey
>Yolanda
>Strawberry Witch
Miss Point is good but kind of basic, and Rose Melody is older and good quality, but the designs are often meh/limited skill.

Taobao is just a platform, like a lovechild of Amazon&Etsy. It's easy to hop onto though and we've historically had issues with shitty replica "brands" like Dream of Lolita etc.
These days we have a dime-a-dozen opportunist brands creating Photoshop illustrations of "prints" to woo the inexperienced--these get printed in bulk for cheap on crappy polyester chiffon by some random contract factory and then shipped out for much more than their worth.

I really liked pic related, for example, but was skeptical of the IRL product. searched for worn photos and confirmed it for crap skirt shape, not enough petti room, and bad execution of front bustle (mediocre fabric choice makes terrible-looking ruffles) bodice also looks unlined and not reinforced for shape maintenance.
I still see this colourway and get hype but then remember it won't actually look or feel nice when worn and wisely pass.

I'm pretty sure I have good enough variety of AP dresses to be able to compare and there isn't that big decrease on the quality imo. Maybe older AP had more smaller details but creating new, modern prints isn't cheap either so I would say they just focus on different details nowadays. AP dresses around 2005 aren't anything spectacular when it comes to quality and honestly the construction quality hasn't changed that much after that. Seriously, Melty Berry Princess' construction is identical to Magical Etoile's or Sheep Garden's. How the fabric and other materials will stand time is another question but we can't answer it yet. My newer AP items aren't really comparable as the fabric is totally different in those. I have over 40 dresses from 2002-2016 so I would say I have something to base this on. Also, I'm the original anon so I have also experience from several Taobao brands.

>> No.9650646

White is usually the least popular colourway -- it looks like bridalwear, shows dirt easily and there's a subset of girls whose skintones look terrible in all-white. It's usually the slower colourway for Moitie dresses to sell out in, and sometimes AP sales will go up with the black colourway completely sold out while the white is abundantly in stock. So the white colourway is not really a good comparison for how much the black should go for.

Personally I wouldn't pay more than the retail price for a secondhand dress, this one retailed pretty close to $400. I guess it boils down to how badly you want the dress, though.

I have this problem with AatP and Baby in general, where their JSKs are several inches too big if I don't tighten the ribbon but tightening the ribbon too much puts strain on the lace, which is too flimsy for that. My "solution" is to just wear it very loose and use waist ties instead. The bodice still gaps, though, which is weird and uncomfortable. I've been thinking about sewing more sturdy ribbon loops in under the lace and using them as the real loops but the only way to make that sturdy (I think) is to sew them into the seam, which would mean undoing the seams, which I'd like to avoid. Or maybe I should just eat cake until my waist is 70+cm because that's what AatP/Baby seems to prefer in a customer.

Nearly everything I've seen that's come out recently is about 90cm long, and since I'm really short that length just tends to look dumpy on me. I have two Meta jsks and I look like I'm drowning in fabric unfortunately, so any recommendations for brands or specific dresses even would be welcome.

The current trend is for longer hemlines. Most brands were releasing dresses about the length you want more often than now just a few years ago. They still are today, it just varies from release to release and isn’t the default anymore.

So basically almost every brand will have stuff the length you want, and the selection will be bigger the farther back you go. Unless we know what you like though (sweet, gothic, classic) we can’t point you toward a particular era though.

Honestly if it's that loose you're going to need to alter or sell it. Unfortunately altering any lolita is going to be around 200-350 usd and they can only take very little in. They also won't do it unless it's plain or has a plain repeating pattern because they can't without ruining print and they don't want people demanding money back. Or you could keep it and display it I guess. Or turn it into a skirt if you're that desperate.

If it's that big she won't be any better than a fattychan forcing themselves into a dress way too small for them. Why is this opinion so common on cgl when it looks so sloppy? It turns even the most elegant dresses into something very costumey. Is just because people get triggered about anons having the opposite problem of them fit wise? Besides that lolita IS the "fat girl fashion" and their models have special one offs/have it altered/pinned back. Aside from people getting paid to make it look good I haven't seen any tiny Japanese girls pull off things 2-5 inches bigger than them. A cardigan doesn't help it anymore than hiding buttons popping off. The underlying problem is still obvious.

Or more likely I suppose is that anons saying this are only into lolita and have absolutely zero knowledge of fashion in general.

Didn't Boguta also use stock images from Japanese brands for their own listings? I remember someone in my comm fawning over this shop and then going to check it out, only to see a bunch of images from Mary Magdalene with their own logo slapped on top.

I love new AP designs actually, but they're objectively lower quality. Fabric isn't as nice, lace is cheaper, construction flaws, lack of built in pettis, etc. There was even that anon who had rips in her lining.

Can I see this? I prefer the new, lighter fabrics myself

Not nowadays i think, but look for old school dresses (AP,Baby,...) since they're often shorter.
Also, even though it's not brand, you might have luck with taobao brands that have custom sizes made to fit you just right

I think it's a perfectly fine skirt, especially for a summery country or old school coord.
I wouldn't change anything about it.
not to gatekeep but if you're shy about details like this you might want to try a different girly jfash

This is actually correct (for me and I would imagine others). My boobs are DD and look terrible in high waisted dresses, and my waist is too big for the usual brand size

i was thinking of trying that, or maybe gorilla glue?
