Drama that I'm aware of:
Conchair left her co-conchair husband (who she has a daughter with) for a girl she met on the internet who was also leaving her husband.

Stephanie (conchair) keeps pushing these generic plushie kickstarters and crying to as many FB groups as she can when no one is preordering

Shuto is a for-profit con and more than likely the primary income of Stephanie/her new girlfriend (who is also now a core staff of Shuto), so it suddenly being so out of money seems super suspicious

It's been years since the failed random battle con and they fundraised to recoup those losses too, which is super coincidental that this con is sudden broke now too

If you donate ten dollars you get 10$ con cash to be used at 'participating vendors and artists' but no word on how many vendors and artists agreed to accept the coupons, essentially making them con cash useless

I have a feeling the financial troubles started after the failure of Random Battle Con. Which brought in a whopping 300 attendees for a 2 day con. The con chair got a taste of success and it's gone to her head.

Yeah, they say they will reimburse the artists but they are clearly shit at managing money, so who is to say they will have any? They've also scammed people they owed out of money in the past.

When they started paying volunteers they "forgot" to collect any contact info from said volunteers so they had no way to mail checks out. They made a post in the group saying that people had to send their contact info by the end of the day to get paid or they would just "donate" the money back to the con. The made the post at like 8pm.

Stop. For your own sake. Stop. Stop taking on debt. Stop alienating yourself from your friends. Stop busting your ass for something that just isn't working.

Shuto was a nice, chill con, five years ago. Conventions have changed, and Shuto hasn't changed with it. For all the lip service that you pay to Shuto being an inclusive space, your con feels more and more hostile every year, and there is going to be a point where you won't be able to get back to where you were.

How much debt are you willing to go into for this con? Your reputation is getting more and more damaged by the HOUR. I don't say this out of dislike for you, but instead, ambivalence and respect for another human being. Don't destroy your credit and your life for an anime convention.

With most cons the average attendee is pretty much deaf to any behind the scenes drama but shuto email blasted everyone who's bought tickets about their financial woes. A lot of people might reconsider about buying tickets when the con has money problems & apparent mismanagement. Well if you are talking about the fan-run panel portion of programming, that doesn't really cost them anything since they've stopped reimbursing panelist badges and show no sign of bringing that back. For running like 4+ hours of programming you are rewarded with a t-shirt, whereas every other con I've done panels for I either got a discounted badge or a completely free badge.

As a panelist I'm not really looking to pay shuto to have a space to provide my content, especially since the atmosphere is so much more like a day care than a fan gathering. I'm essentially paying the con for the privilege of presenting my panel and watch their ill behaved attendees, which is definitely how I want to spend my weekend.

Well it looks like Shito con will be starting up soon, and since I do enjoy the idea of them being in chaos, I thought I'd share a little secret with you guys. I know who the email hacker is! Yep that's right I know who it is that sent out those fake emails that caused them trouble. I won't tell you his/her/their name for obvious reasons, but I can tell you that if you want to see another round of them get sent out in the near future (or if you want one sent to you personally), all you need to do is post the emails of yourself, your friends, or anyone you know that decides to be at shito con this weekend, and the hacker will have all the information needed to send that person an email pretending to be that bitch Shall (or any of the con staff for that matter, no one is safe). And for the record, whatever increase in security they attempt to prevent the hacker from sending these is pointless, the hacker can bypass it no matter what they do. I'll let the hacker know about this thread so they can get a good laugh out of this. Also if you have any ideas on things that would be funny to see as a fake email do tell!
