I have an OTT gothic coord that doubles as an aristocratic vampire costume to normies (something similar to pic related), but I don't know if I'll get to wear it. I'm visiting family on the weekend closest to Halloween so I'll probably miss any meetup and the big club nights, and since Halloween itself is on a Tuesday this year I probably won't be able to rope any friends into going clubbing with me, since they'll all have work the next day.

I need to order circle lenses soon if I want to go full vampire, but most opticians I've tried have flat-out refused to measure the curvature of my eye for them because they say coloured contacts are dangerous. I don't think it's a good idea to just order a standard pair from Pinky Paradise and hope it works out, but I might not have any other option.

They won't measure me for regular contacts because I'm not actually short-sighted. I go to the opticians' every couple of years because I have a vision problem in one eye, but contacts/lenses in general can't correct it, they just monitor it to make sure it won't get worse.

Opticians in my country already don't like people using cosmetic lenses (I've heard a lot of cosplayers complain about opticians just going "no, you shouldn't wear coloured contacts for no medical reason" when they asked to be measured), and because I have no backup eye they straight-up refused when I asked. Kind of stupid desu, I'm a sensible person and wouldn't order contacts without knowing, but I'm sure plenty of teens would just buy lenses anyway and potentially fuck up their eyes worse.

>> No.9626135

>>9626127
couple things
1 - in the US, it's against the law for an eye doctor to not give you your prescription or measurements if asked
2 - doctors are required to tell you to not get cosmetic lenses, but if you say you're going to get them anyway, they need to give you your measurements otherwise you will fuck up your vision possibly permanently. they are supposed to work to try to avoid that, like how trannies that go to the doctor can get hormones if the doc says they're unsure, just by saying they'll get them off the internet anyways.

This is mostly related to OP pic than anything else honestly...

I really like Harley Quinn. I like her from the Batman Animated series, where she's a fun foil to the stereotypical arch nemesis and grows some dimension of her own.

But god damn... I fucking hate seeing harley of the month cosplays everywhere. It was bad before Suicide Squad, too, with every other iteration of her popping up. But now it's insane. I don't usually care if something likes something because it's "popular". It doesn't diminish the basic experience for me, but when people clearly don't care it still looks stupid. It's just incredibly frustrating to toe the line between gatekeeping and trying to avoid all fans of something because I feel gross.

More on topic, I love free candy and dressup. I think Halloween traditions are different in different areas, for example Dia de los Muertos which really means something. In the US it's a little more complicated because like Christmas, it's involved with holidays that got "cleaned up" by the church.

Yeah also a britfag. They also should be giving you the measurements. If not vision express and specsavers (who I've used and have always given me the measurements anyway), sell a brand of coloured ones they deem safe. they're pretty basic but get fitted for those then get the measurement.
If not, go to a contact fitting, if they complain you don't need them, say you're a lookalike for someone and you need them for your job. Then they should comply.
Also vision express do offer's for free contact fittings if you dig about online.

Well it's not all on the day itself (the AP party is the sunday before and the other party on the friday) but it'll be fun!

Well Halloween is pretty different in Japan. For one they dont do trick or treating. My kids just think its so weird. Its what gave me the idea to do the little jack o lantern treat bags, give them a little taste for what its like. They love the decorations, a lot of them are already up (hell you can even purchase halloween themed toilet paper) but they arent super big on the horror aspect? At least not in my area. They like cute costumes or an excuse to wear cosplay. They get halloween is supposed to be scary but traditionally the Japanese tell their horror stories in the summer (the claim it keeps them cool, at least thats what my kids told me) so you dont actually see as much spooky movies or ultra scary stuff in fall. Instead they just like the aesthetics mostly.

Haunted houses are also a little more rare and different over here. A lot are based on traditional Japanese horror where as for instance the one I worked at (pick related) was very much victorian horror so they love the aesthetic. I think really its just the cultural differences. They think of their halloween as very western since the whole holiday is western, so when they find out its not so similar they get surprised.

You should see their faces when I told them we do valentines really different than they do too.

>> No.9628526

Oh man-- I'm getting so excited for Halloween! I usually celebrate for at least a week. Up until a few years ago I was running a large haunted attraction here in the city and that made doing anything for MYSELF a little tricky but I always make time to attend this amazing light up indy puppet show out in the woods.

if anyone is interested---> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUSb9apAt0A

Its called Barebones..these giant, ethereal puppets come swimming through the dark with the haunting sounds of a gypsy orchestra. I honestly cry every year. Its so magical and beautiful I am overwhelmed. Here in mpls we basically have 2 real seasons- winter and summer. When winter is over and we all come out on the first warm day there is a huge parade and it is may day and we all celebrate life and having survived another winter- but barebones halloween show is the spiritual opposite to that, its the time we reflect on those weve lost, death, and the end of the cycle.

(but yeah, thats my ONE go to every year. other than that i usually go out running round in costume, drinking and dancing a few nights)

Listen, I'm not saying young people can't have meaningful relationships. I can see he meant a lot to you, clearly. But you have plenty of time to grow. College will change you - I know it changed me. You'll be able to study, go to the gym, join a club, all without worrying about neglecting your partner. I'm not saying it's better this way, but I am saying you should make the best of your situation. The second you let his actions rob you of future opportunity, it's your loss.

And education is super fucking important, make the most of it.

We never get any trick or treaters at my house (like 5 at tops because we live on a hill) and I'm too much of a loser to go to any Halloween parties, but I'm still hype and buying decorations and plan on spookin up the house regardless. Last year I went trick or treating, but a few people commented on the fact I clearly was late teens+ (rude) so I don't know if I'll go again this year.

I'm going to be making the Sucy from this little piece of art though as my costume for this year and I'll probably go out the day or so before Halloween and get some photos taken for the holiday though at least.

>> No.9630737

Blegh. I'm not feeling so ambitious the year, even though Halloween is my favorite holiday. Maybe because it falls on a Tuesday and I don't have as big disposable income as I used to, otherwise, I'd been considering doing an Effie Trinket or Siouxsie Sioux look, but I'd have no where to go since most friends work weekends and I'm too old to go to college parties. Siouxsie might be fine for work. Pretty sure there's a contest, but I don't care to compete. I just want to be comfy.

Looking forward to the Halloween meet up though. I wish my comm wasn't mostly sweet Lolitas, but suppose it's better than itas showing up.

Maybe I'll just wear lolita, watch spoopy movies/play horror games, and pass candy that night.

Well either way, he plainly cares about you. If you are super serious about this guy, tell him you'd like to try putting things on pause rather than breaking up, instead.
That said, he's not wrong. If you're this hung up on him, it's probably a good idea for you to find something strong in your own life. Get a good education in a field that pays well--do not get a useless degree--and make something of yourself on your own.

You are both wrong, long distance relationships can work, but ONLY if both people think it is worth the effort. If one person doesn't want to, it doesn't make them a shitty person, it makes them a person who knows they won't be able to pull their half of the relationship. Long distance relationships are very hard, it is not selfish to back out of one if you know you can't do it. That doesn't make long distance relationships a mistake, they can be very worthwhile.

At halloween night we kissed for the first time and started dating officially.
After that I went to his city every two weeks for weekend. This was a rule.

He's not paying for my tuition, my parents are, 4 years ago they got a bloody bitter divorce and none of them could be bothered to be burdened with me so the last thing they agreed on was to dump me in that fucking boarding school, they're busy gallivanting and being single again, I get the ocassional call and they wire me money but that's it. Not even for the holidays are they around, I spent them with his family.

Which is not to say he never bought me nice stuff, he did, a lot. The goal is to realize that even though you want to be with the person, you are still your own person at the same time. I can miss him all I want but that won't keep me from doing my day to day business that needs to be done. The robes are unisex, don't be daft.

If you wanna make it sexy just keep the canon, plait skirt a bit shorter, jfc.

When I was in high school I made a joke about how stupid middle school dating is, and how I knew so much better now that I was 17. My friend's little sister got so offended that I had implied that her boyfriend of three weeks wasn't her one true love. Every part of that memory keeps getting better and better.

>been together 2 years
>thinks that means they'll last a lifetime
Have fun being a single mom.

But in all seriousness, even if you can make it work it's not always worth it.

I met my gf four years ago on /r9k/. We were both 22 then.
Within less than a year, we met, met each other's families, and she drove across the entire country to pick me up so I could move in with her
We've been together ever since. No plan of having children but happy and in love and supporting each other through everything.

Her 26th birthday is in a few weeks and we've never been more in love. Why are you so negative? Did someone hurt you?

There are girls on r9k?

There's women on /r9k/. The decent ones are smart enough to not openly say so.

haha holy shit

you're so, so far gone. Get him out of your life and get a therapist. He's already got three other highschool girls waiting in the wings because he doesn't respect you and you don't respect yourself. You're a whiny teenage dramaqueen and as soon as you gain some world experience in the slightest you're not gonna be his pure broken catholic schoolgirl waifu and he'll dump you like you will your pre-med plans, because life is so ~haaaard for you.

It's obvious by the way you type you don't think much of women or girls and don't know much about them outside of your animus. Guess what? I went to a catholic boarding school after my parents divorced and had a shitty home life too. You actually remind me a lot of who I was in 8th grade and freshman year. I was also "dating" a pedo I had met at a con. The thing about places like that, is that girls are actually super good at taking care of eachother when you treat them like humans. We all got along really well as soon as the newer kids dropped their "i'm not like all you other bitches" shtick that you haven't grown out of. One of my first roommates became one of my best friends, who comes off as a die hard catholic valley girl stereotype. We had girls getting into slapfights and go back to being close friends after talking it out. In fact, the only ones who really got "bullied" are the ones who started crying and yelling that they were getting bullied when people call them out on their shitnasty behavior. I was never only for putting up that kind of shit, as you can probably tell. You need to do a lot of introspection, kiddo. I hope to whatever god is listening that the only life you're poisoning is your own.

I almost guarantee the only reason he called you is he tried to get with another girl, struck out because he's a creepy shit, and got the attention he wanted from you. He's already clearly put so much effort in crippling your self-reliance and feeding you so much bullshit.

I think she's in the halloween thread asking for costume recommendations.

I don't understand what the big deal is with him buying her stuff when half of this board openly admits to only wanting a boyfriend so they can have someone paying for their burando
