Classic and sweet tend to feature Peter Pan collars, accents with sweet themes (heart and star buttons, custom lace with similar feels, etc.), more ribbons, a wider variety of colors, etc. Gothic, imo, is more pared down and features more neutral themes and colors, and high, square, or pointed collars are much more common.

Gothic blouses are usually (not always) more mature looking than sweet blouses. The lines are sharper and cleaner, and they're usually just a lot simpler looking. You will see a lot of high necked collars, pointed collars, and square collars...round collars or peter pan collars can still work (look at old Moitie blouses for example) but they aren't as common. In general the details are just smaller and more toned down - you won't see those gigantic peter pan collars or piles of bows everywhere.

A lot of classic blouses still work well with gothic, but there are some differences. For example, you'll rarely see thick torchon lace on a gothic blouse.

I have a 96 cm bust and buy a lot of my shirt there, but I'd guess ~25% will work up to my bust size. Also, my waist is 64cm and all of my second hand shirred skirts very from "plenty of room" to "comically large to the point where I can't wear them."

Why do people consider bloomers a staple of Lolita? If you're worried your skirt'll fly up just wear boxers, if you need more volume (?) get a better petticoat, if you like the look all power to you, but that doesn't make it anymore of a staple than wearing a wig or wrist cuffs. If there's a proper reason I'm all ears but the those I've heard so far haven't convinced me.

I think bloomers as a staple is really a personal choice, but I don't think I ever really feel like a coord is complete without them. They help me feel cute. Plus, they protect your butt from Marilyn Monroe moments, protect your legs from scratchy petticoats, prevent sweaty thigh rub, keep you warmer in the winter, add a miniscule amount of poof, and in some situations, look great when they're just long enough to peek out from under the skirt.

So I got a rectangle headdress from bodyline, and it Came right out of the packaging looking like this. I can't get the stains to show up as well on the camera as in real life but they're very visible. I tried soaking them in detergend but it didn't help. Any ideas?

I'm 98cm now but I used to be 104cm. Soufflé Song is pretty good for blouses if you're boob-y.
I find Chinese sellers to be roomier in blouses and a good few of them do custom.
I don't know what style you're looking for but Little Dipper's XXL sizes go up to 112cm iirc

There is a few things you can do.
1. Try washing them again with something made for stains (here we use stainsalt).
2. Dye them with Ritdye.
3. Cut off the stained part and seal the ends with a lighter.
4. Sew something on top of them (lace, ribbons, rhinestones, embroidery)
5. Take off the entire straps and replace them with new

I have blouses from Anna House, Fanplusfriend, Little Dipper, Bodyline, one from Baby with full shirring and some custom made from western indie brands. I don't know why indie brands make jsk often 100cm+ but almost all XL taobao blouses only max 98 cm. I'm not even fat, I'm only tall and busty european girl :'D

I think that was a thing because ponytails are generally regarded as too simple and casual, but if you have a fringe and wear your hair in a high ponytail with a bow or flower hair comb on it, it could be really cute imo. Even more so if you take the time to curl your hair beforehand, or otherwise style it. You shouldn't just tie your hair in a ponytail and call it a day, basically, you should put a little bit of effort and add details to make it work.

Depends on the style of the dress/skirt and the cut of it.
A line works really well for Gothic & Classic but sometimes also for Sweet (usually the more old school styled pieces).
I find highwaisted cuts usually work better with a-line for example.
Same goes for cupcake or bell, usually used for Sweet but sometimes works really well for Gothic.
Sometimes an A-line petti works nice under a cut intended for a cupcake, but cupcakes generally look awful under cuts intended for a-line pettis because the skirt isn't full enough and don't have the rounded appearance at the hem if that makes any sense?

You can usually tell when you actually wear a bell or A-line with your dress. A bell will make it look overstuffed at the top if it's meant to be a-line, and a-line will make the top look deflated/flat if it's meant to be bell.

Absolutely! Wear your natural hair if you like. It feels strange to say this to be honest, natural hair used to be a much more common sight in lolita, at least online. But yes, wigs are almost never mandatory.

Basic lolita advice is to start with a base color of your choice (white, cream, black, etc) and one or two main colors (sax, navy, lavender, etc).

White and a main color of your choice will do you well in sweet.

Especially their Lovely line is big. They are also sold on cdjapan. I know their stock photos don't look the most appealing but the clothes are nice irl. They also have a lot of solids and causal things good for beginners.

The older handbook is much easier to read, and I still recommend it for a faster, easier overview of the fashion (along with the Wikipedia page on Lolita). As for the guidebook, bookmark it so that you can come back and look up stuff later, I don’t suggest reading it all in one go.

For communities, make a facebook and join rufflechat and closet of frills (and that other daily lolita group). Blogs, I recommend lolita tips (http://lolita-tips.tumblr.com/)) as someone helpful to newbies, and rolli’s ramblings (http://rolisramblings.blogspot.my) writes a blogpost roundup, which is a nice way to discover what other girls are doing.

As for actually building a wardrobe, there’s a lot of different approaches. My suggestion is to simply take the plunge and go for ONE single coherent outfit, with a dress that you actually like, in a colour you love. Once you get that on, you can judge for yourself whether you actually like wearing it, or it’s great but you’d rather wear another substyle/colour/theme/cut, or you like everything and want more of it. When you’ve got a few of these things figured out (like whether you like skirts, your preferred colourways, etc), then it becomes much easier to start envisioning what kind of wardrobe you *really* want, instead of what you imagine you want based on some internet chat, and to build towards it.

It’s pretty much a cycle of shopping, coording and meetups after that. If you have trouble building your wardrobe you could look up fyeah lolita, who has a few blogposts on it, or you could look up how to build a capsule wardrobes and apply that to lolita. I’d say pretty much the first one or two years is going to be about finding out what you actually like, so you might end up buying and selling stuff, it should be much smoother sailing after that.

You just ship it to your Tenso address. They use the T-xxxxx number in it to match your package up with your name, then they'll register the parcel and it will show up on your My Page. When you arrange to have it forwarded to you they will calculate and charge shipping and handling fees, after you've paid they'll ship it out.

Your first package needs to be to the address you used to verify your identity, so use something with an address you can actually receive stuff at.

Japan Post won't touch anything with alcohol (flammable), not even empty perfume bottles. So be careful with toiletries.

Some things like books (GLB/Melt/Eternita) and canned drinks/food can be really heavy. Books I'd recommend buying direct from Amazon.jp instead of through Tenso/rakuten.

What else. Ah, everything between checking out and Tenso is up to you to handle. Use google translate and buy responsibly. Do not accidentally check out with Cash on Delivery, it's the reason Ailand (Liz Lisa) has blocked Tenso addresses completely, too many noobs did that. Also do not bother trying Tenso with IW's Japanese site or Btssb, they want payment via Japanese bank methods. Not every site will accept foreign CC.

A minor gripe, but they seem to overcharge the weight. Packages that are under 200g on one site will end up on Tenso as over 200g. I find this really annoying, but if you want to use them for whatever reason you'll have to make your peace with it, or find another service.

But at the same time, japanese sizing is super restrictive (and Japanese women tend to wear their weight differently), so if you're set on classic Japanese fashion brands, it will take a significant amount of work to find things that are fully shirred, made from stretchy fabrics, etc etc etc.

If you're ok with branching out to non-Japanese brands and/or paying more, lots of taobao brands will make custom sizes, and I've seen some indie brands start to venture into plus sizes. The flipside is that it's then hard to find any of this stuff second-hand

Cutsew JSK's are fine with lolita, even if they are very plain, but at what point does it be okay to wear what looks like a fancy skater dress? If you have a skater dress and it's sufficiently fancy/ tailored to fit the lolita aesthetics, does that become okay to wear with lolita?

I would skater dresses are too short for Lolita. If you put a petti underneath, even a small one, the skirt portion will be very short or you will see the petti peaking underneath. Mori Boy is a lot easier as it's less confined by rules than say, lolita, the only ones being that natural fabrics, cottons, yarn, is used, preferably as part of the whole outfit but that's up to choice. I'm not sure if there are male equivalents to mori girls shops. honestly, maybe on aliexpress but that's just a guess.But i believe a lot of mori boy stuff could be thrifted if you have the right eye for it.

We have the same bust so I can tell you now that you're going to have a harder time getting things to work depending on what fashion you like.
Start off by looking at things such as otome kei, casual lolita, soft lolita, and classic lolita. That's the best I got for you.

It's literally only because you can skimp on tailoring and it hangs exactly like it would on a hanger. It's been said thousands of times. Anything meant to expose the body is going to be at least a c-cup. Don't get me wrong lolita looks best on people that actually fit into it well, but you don't have to play into misconceptions.
