It's been a while folks...

General thread for "casual" girly styles. Defined styles like himekaji, roma gyaru, otome-kei/soft lolita welcome as well as undefined street style.

Try to keep larme, fairy kei, etc in their own threads...but let's not get too hung up on thread policing.

They were a Himekaji brand that jumped over to creating Larme specific pieces when they were featured in the magazine (similar to a lot of other "larme" brands). They still make a fair amount of himekaji stuff if you are interested in that.

I personally adore Ank Rouge and they are far and above my favorite brand for himekaji and other casual cute wear. Great designs and better quality than Liz Lisa, Amavel, etc.

I mean, I get what they are saying. otome in the west is usually used to describe what mistake called "soft lolita" or generic seiso looks that don't fit into any style we've ~categorized~ in the west. Once himekaji started moving farther and farther away from gyaru, brands like Ank Rouge would make coordinates that looked more like the later than himekaji a lot.

I wear casual cute stuff daily, and most of my closet is from:
>Jane Marple
>Liz Lisa
>Ank Rouge
>Axes Femme
>MILK
>Leur Getter
>Various lolita brands (Innocent World in particular)
>Vintage shops & a local "rockabilly" store
>Various western brands, nothing special ("preppy" designers like Ralph Lauren and "punk" designers like Vivienne Westwood have a lot of workable clothes)

But that's just me. Emily Temple Cute is also a great brand, and Amavel makes lots of stuff that fits (but I personally find their quality to be kinda terrible).

I tend not to buy taobao for my daily wear, because I'm of the mindset that the more I wear something the more I'm willing to spend on it. However, the taobao thread has a spreadsheet with stores in it. Check the gyaru tab I believe for himekaji and the other jfashion tab for otome and larme

In my eyes these simple clothes are more wearable, so if I break down the value of a piece to cost per wear it actually works out to be a better financial investment for me. That being said, I still buy nearly everything secondhand and right now I can't justify Jane Marple's price hikes.

sorry for the self post but as an example you can use browns as the main color in your coord but try to accompany it with another (preferably) lighter color. or you can use your skin tone to your advantage and match your outfit with it. I've heard a few lighter skinned girls say they love the dress on the left but it makes them look too washed out. Tbh I think Liz Lisa is still overpriced for what it is. I understand you have to cut corners somewhere (e.g. cheaper materials if you want the OP to be $90 instead of $250) but I the one skirt I own from them started falling apart despite me not wearing it that often and the rest that I've seen was made from scratchy and thin materials. I think maybe I just got unlucky with the limited pieces I've been exposed to. I love LL's aesthetic so much but I'm scared to waste more money.

I'd probably buy it second hand though, or clearance if i was cheap enough.

>> No.9611905

>> No.9612517

>>9611325
yes, it is; thank you so much! they're from autumn last year so they're a bit outdated though.

On the topic of Liz Lisa's quality, it definitely isn't as high as lolita brands but it's not Forever 21 quality either. I own about 70+ items including coats, shoes, bags, etc. and the most damage I've had is buttons coming loose and having to resew them.

I agree with >>9612039 about the confusion of clothing "falling apart" if you barely wore it. I bought a fukubukuro skirt super cheap and it was complete shit. The lace was bad, the elastic in the waistline wasn't even sewn to the skirt, the lining was scratchy. I almost never wear it but it hasn't "fallen apart" just sitting in my drawer.

>> No.9612550

>>9612517

I tend to prefer having less pieces that I wear regularly, so I actually do encounter clothes literally falling apart (seams ripping, shoes separating from soles, PU peeling, and the like) which makes quality more important to me. However, quality and durability aren't always the same thing and I have pieces that are less well-made/quality that are just as durable or more than my good pieces. Liz Lisa often has thinner fabric, buttons that fall off, cheaper lace, etc but I generally don't have issues with their stuff literally falling apart. In fact, my biggest issues have been with Axes Femme (which is appropriately cheap, especially second hand) and lolita brand shoes and purses.

I wear most of my Liz Lisa regularly as well. I agree that the faux leather pieces are shit (I mostly buy the clothes and not the purses for that reason) but I still haven't had as many issues with the buttons or "falling apart" as so many people here talk about.
However, I also value thinner fabrics bc I live in a hot climate so I get really disappointed when I get a Liz Lisa item in the mail and it's heavy...

>> No.9612813

>>9612772
nayrt but same, I collected loads of Liz Lisa back in 2012-2015 and the quality isn't lolita burando quality but it isn't fast fashion trash either. Having said that I never paid full price for anything, they always had super good deals back then and I had their bedsheets at some point too which lasted me about 3 years. I do occasionally turn the dresses etc. inside out and look at the stitching and they definitely have cut a few corners but they're solid enough that nothing has actually ever 'fallen apart' on me. The worst that's happened is years old pieces gathering lint, or buttons coming loose and zippers getting stuck. I think Liz Lisa is generally worth it if you wait for sales and buy everything 40-70% off, but full price? No way.

Also never expect the fukubukuro stuff to be good quality, I've never bought one but from what I've seen of unboxings/blogs etc. they seem to use lower quality scratchier fabrics and stuff. It's not nearly as nice as regular Liz Lisa stuff. Overall I'd consider Liz Lisa quality on par with Axes, maybe slightly better a few years ago but not by much. I haven't bought from them in a couple years though so they could've gone downhill since? Either way Liz Lisa isn't as awful as gulls make it out to be but don't buy anything full price.

There is an organza ruffle on the bottom, the stitching/serging on which unraveled after about 3 or 4 wears and the raw exposed organza started getting loose threads everywhere. I had to resew it. Additionally, the top of the shirred section of the waistband ripped, exposing the elastic inside.

I have never even machine washed it, just hand washed and dried flat, and I didn't get it caught on anything nor did I do any sort of rigorous physical activity that would have strained the waistband. I always put it on and took it off gently (though I realize mentioning that probably opens me up to suspicions of being fatty-chan and ripping the skirt that way, but there ya go).

Come to think of it, it was also a fukubukuro item which seems would explain the poor quality. From observation the waistband is constructed pretty cheaply - usually the raw edge of the skirt would be encased in the waistband but the waistband and the skirt are sewed separately and then serged together. The waistband isn't interfaced, either. I did buy it second hand, though I know the original owner wore it maybe once. It cost me a small fortune in shipping. I was just disappointed because it's a piece I love a lot but I've gotten more sturdy shit from F21 or taobao. Like I said, I do have limited exposure - I don't doubt that the pieces I've seen at flea markets at cons could have been fukubukuro pieces too from girls trying to turn a little bit of profit.

In fact hearing that y'all have had positive experiences with their regularly things makes me hopeful to try Liz Lisa sometime again in the future.

>> No.9612912

If you don't mind showing pics or listing the item number, I can probably tell you if it was a fukubukuro item or not.
Items manufactured just for fukubukuro are extreme shit (altho I think the coats are OK considering what you're paying) but people also complained their heads off when Liz Lisa put older stock in the LPs (that were regular quality). You can't really get both imo.
At one point, Liz Lisa had a suitcase fukubukuro with 11 items that cost like $200. Of course the items are going to be shit.

Are there any brands that cater to this kind of palette, sort of autumn/English countryside themed? I know JM does but their pieces are usually a bit pricey and out there as far as prints.

I'm also interested if anyone knows of any workable western/easily accessible Japanese clothing in the same style (not mori, but sort of cutesy English prep). Well, I have one of their knitted dresses too and that one actually fared pretty well. The knit is thicker than the one they used for the jumpers, it also has more stretch so that might be the reason why.

Yes I am aware, but not all customs officers respect that and I don't want to risk going through a complicated bureaucratic process in a language I can't speak, in the event that they do end up honouring it here. I would much rather buy cheaper second hand on eBay or from European brands even if they do cost more since I can try them on as a bonus and postage fees are also included in the price cap (so tenso is not an option). Capiche?

I'm french and order lots of stuff from Japan and China, never got hit by customs. I always choose airmail shipping, a lot less likely to be taxed.

does anyone have any recommendations for someone with hourglass figues/boobs?
I'm having a especially hard time to find any tops.

I'm 5'1 and my bra measurements are 32G. Mod cloth has some good vintage options. Personally I wear shareware under my nice tops to kind of make an effort to reign it all in. The fact is you want to avoid anything that makes it look 'stretched' over your bosom. I always go with Ralph Lauren personally especially for suit jackets. They're always perfectly tailored and I'm working on buying his entire fall collection. I always say buy one really nice thing instead of several meh things. I have an hourglass figure too and it always helps when things fit well

What are some good j-fashion magazines to look for girly - casual - vintage - more mature styles (like otome or soft lolita)? Someone in another thread mentioned Eternita, as well as Kera and some Spoon issues.

Anons now that it is getting colder, how do you stay cute in the winter? I live in Norway and it rains a lot, will snow later in the year... I would love a Liz Lisa type of wardrobe but for example their boots would get ruined on the first outing.

>> No.9626835

>>9626815
If you want to wear skirts in the winter, invest in some thermal tights/leggings. They're a godsend. Earmuffs are very cute when the snow comes around, and a good style if you don't want to mess up your hair (but there are plenty of cute normal winter hats out there as well). Cute mittens/gloves are a necessity lol. I'd get a cute pea coat since everyone will be seeing your coat instead of your outfit. And for boots I'd find the cutest normal boots you can find and make them a little cuter yourself. I'd worry about Liz Lisa quality as well, they're not made for real snow.

I love this style, but I personally feel a bit old for it. Is there any way to make it work well with longer skirts or make it look more adult?

>> No.9631164

Yes, you can definitely utilize longer skirts.

Take a look at fint and their sub-brand an another angelus, amavel, and axes femme. I too feel too old for stuff like liz lisa but the mentioned brands have more mature designs, or at least long skirts.

anon, i hope that you don't mind me asking but do you have an instagram?

This is all true but in the last couple of years, Liz Lisa has been putting out a lot of 大人/adult style pieces and prints including longer hemlines.
I know bc some babies on IG won't stop complaining about how the brand is dying bc of it and how they wish it was like back in 2012.

Nayrt but those socks clash horribly with the shoes. Off white or beige socks with a lace top of even a complementary color scheme for the stripes and the shoes would make them look less forced.

>> No.9631851

>>9631848
honestly, if you take those socks and replace them with plain beige lace tops that coord would be bland af and loose its charm. I was mostly being facetious, as people can like what they like and its a more out there choice, but to me it's the thing that makes the coord work

*Holy shit*

What the hell is 32G on a 5'1 frame? How do you stand up?

Oh my god puberty must have been brutal, as a fellow short sister you have my condolences.

Oh my god all that boob when you had to wear backpacks which were always too big for short girls...
